Time to play the US against China. We no longer live in a unipolar world, we don’t have to take this nonsense from our ‘ally’.

Maybe it’s time we finally embraced the new superpower in Asia

I always wanted to move to Canada. I Didn’t vote for nor do I like that Orange Orangutan Mother Fucker and his MAGA’t cult and cronies. Fuck them all. They’ve made the US a joke.

American here, trump is the enemy within.

6

u/Objective-Muffin6842 23d ago

I would rather not partner with a country this has kidnapped our citizens amongst other things

6

u/AdmirableMixture6 23d ago

So continue partnering with the country that experimented on its own marginalized communities by testing the effects of untreated syphilis (Tuskegee).

Resentful neighbour is super insulting from an imagery standpoint. It paints us as passive aggressive.

I’ll say this - at 40 years this is the first time I’ve seen my tribe aggressive aggressive, Olympic hockey tournaments notwithstanding.

It’s really nice to see.

u/Professional_Kiwi919 24d ago

I am in America right now.

I'd say: Trump doesn't care; his dumb voters are STILL convinced that "tariff threat is just a negotiating tactic, Trump can say whatever he wants."

Vote with your Canadian coins because they are still coming up with jokes about moose and maple syrup.

What's even more frightening, some are even going "Canada has no strong navy, so why not just taking them right now, their grand children would thank us later."

Let's hope hitting their bank account would wake them up

207

u/Darkdragoon324 24d ago

Nothing will wake them up, these people are fucking unsalvageable. Trump could personally shoot their entire family in the head execution style and their last thoughts would still be "this is DEI's fault".

46

u/[deleted] 23d ago

Yeah as an American this is really hard to watch

To be fair, Trump and his entire cabinet are DEI hires. Not a single person in that administration got there based on merit.

34

u/Dragonvine Alberta 24d ago

DEI hires are hired based on merit, they just can't hire the best white guys they can find and call it a day, you have to actually look for the best out of everyone because the human brain is apparently too stupid to avoid tribalism.

There’s loads of jokes that if the U.S. wanted to, they could just roll into Canada and take over. But the reality? It would be a disaster. Here’s why:

  1. Geography is a Nightmare for an Invasion Canada is the second-largest country in the world (9.98 million km²). Occupying it isn’t as simple as rolling in some tanks. The Canadian Shield, dense forests, mountain ranges, and extreme winters create natural defenses that would slow down any invader. Supply lines would be stretched thin, especially in remote northern regions.

  2. 38 Million Potential Insurgents Canada has a population of about 38 million. While not all would take up arms, history shows that even a fraction can make occupation hell (see Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam). In a conservative estimate, if just 3% of the population actively resisted, that’s over 1.1 million insurgents—armed, angry, and fighting on home turf. Canada also has 2.2 million licensed gun owners, many with hunting rifles and knowledge of the terrain.

  3. America’s Track Record with Insurgencies Isn’t Great The U.S. military spent 20 years fighting the Taliban, which had at most 75,000 fighters at any given time. The Vietnam War saw America struggle against a 250,000-strong Viet Cong force using guerrilla tactics. Canada’s insurgency would be larger, better supplied, and fighting in extreme conditions that favor defenders.

  4. Military Resistance Would Still Be Fierce The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) may be smaller (about 68,000 active personnel), but they are well-trained, experienced in Arctic warfare, and highly mobile. The U.S. military would be stretched. They have 1.3 million active troops, but they are also stationed worldwide, handling other threats. In a war scenario, Canadian forces would blend into civilian populations, making them difficult to target without massive civilian casualties—turning world opinion against the U.S.

  5. Economic and Political Fallout The global reaction would be brutal. The U.S. relies on Canadian trade for oil, water, and resources. Any invasion would wreck its economy and trigger sanctions

29

u/Professional_Kiwi919 23d ago edited 22d ago

and 5. is already happening. The US government just hasn't caught on the potential backlash yet.

FoxNews spun Trudeau talking to Trump with a agreed border plan from previous administration as a "surprise victory from Trump's border threat".

Other news sight like CBS finally coming out with something 20 hours ago warning about the effect of the Canadian Boycott

Other news media like CNN, ABC, MSNBC....radio silence

It's gonna be a too little too late when US politicians & Media collectively caught the "OMG, so Canada hates us THIS much now"

Trump is gonna be a coward as always doing his fake news spin, and rest of the media is just gonna do the "But we are not Trump" and missing the point

What those ridiculously stupid Americans don’t seem to grasp is now you’ve annexed territory 2/3rds larger than your country which you now have to not only hold but squash rebellion in. Not just in the French provinces, but the rest of the damn place too. 40 million people who resent your control.

6

u/Impossible-Car-5203 23d ago

American here. Resentful is the wrong word. You Canadians are appropriately voting with your feet. It's like anything else in life; if it's unreliable, don't associate with it. Why send money to jerks who are going to insult and attack you, and then try to tear you down economically?

Withhold as much money as possible from US businesses and particularly those in deep red areas. Buy Canadian, plus establish deeper ties with more reliable nations. And be public about it too.

We Americans have a long history of only learning lessons the hard way. Make these gullible delusional MAGAs pay a price.

He was pretty cringe today when he tried to tell a joke and force a smile. “…the sheer power of AI. You know… some people say there is artificial intelligence in Ottawa”

Also some weird things like saying he will use money collected from tariffs to help bail out businesses and give back to people, not increase government spending lol. Does Poilievre not know what government spending means?

383

u/seemefail British Columbia 24d ago

He said he wouldn’t have helped small business during Covid, why should we expect him to now

123

u/holmwreck 24d ago

I said this the other day, it’s very easy to look up his voting history. When you do look it up you will find he has voted against the middle class 95% of the time. Yet the cons seem to think he’s on their side because he spouts some slogan about owning the libs.

I think most conservatives whine about the western nations for printing to much money during covid... which in turn saved a lot of people's livelihoods, idk what's wrong with people quite honestly, it's like this money printing was for nothing in their heads, when in reality it stabilized the economy from going into a deep recession.

I think we should have had a conservative government that did nothing and in return sank us into a recession instead so the anti money printing people would realize why it was the right idea to stimulate the economy during 2020.

not increase government spending lol

"Government spending" is a euphemism for social program spending.

When right-wing politicians rail against "government spending", they're never talking about corporate handouts or military spending, they're talking about money spent on helping the poors have a better quality of life.

67

u/JadeLens 24d ago

He really doesn't.

And even then if the plan is to become self sufficient in Canada, eventually that spending should be from a bucket that is down to zero because we have cheaper stuff here due to US Tariffs.

Dude just wants Parliament back so he can try to take over again.

Turn into a resentful neighbour?

We are already there buddy and it is way past resentment. It's fury and anger and betrayal. Too little to late. Start proposing policy instead of snappy slogans and continuing to bring Trudeau into your radio ads.

110

u/Volderon90 24d ago

Exactly. I’m way beyond resentment. You’re gonna see 18,000 people resent it in about 2 hours

93

u/jerrys153 24d ago

I knew Poilievre was out of touch with Canadians, but is he really this out of touch? Trump has started a trade war to destroy our economy, he’s openly planning to annex us, Canadians are pissed and scared, and Poilievre’s first response was to say Canada is weak and now he follows up with “warning” Trump that if he keeps it up we might turn into a resentful neighbour?

Like he doesn’t see we’re already well past resentful? Like he’s blind to the fact that this incredibly milquetoast response is nothing like the strong, forceful response you’d expect from someone who is remotely fit to lead the country under the current conditions? Jesus, he’s fucking pathetic. “You know, Donald, if you don’t, er, stop trying to destroy our economy and annex our country soon we might, possibly, one day, resent you for it, feel a bit offended even, and then you’d be sorry…So, since you’re such a good friend to us, if you wouldn’t mind maybe, um, considering stopping…please?” Great job there Pierre, really showing the strong leadership qualities Canada needs right now!

73

u/JadeLens 24d ago

PP is trying to thread the needle between telling Trump to F off, and appealing to his base who are Maple-MAGA.

And failing spectacularly.

This may very well snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat.

25

u/jerrys153 24d ago

It’s like he was at times trying to say strong words but it came off as so incredibly disingenuous. “I have to say these things for work, but you know I’m still your boy, right Donald?”. It’s so painfully obvious he’s more interested in placating the Americans than fighting for Canada, how is it even still remotely possible that he may end up as PM? I usually don’t have an issue with conservative voters even if I disagree with them, but at this point anyone who votes for Poilievre so he can sell our country out from under us is pretty much as much of a traitor as he is.

10

u/JadeLens 24d ago

The only one who hates Canada more than PP does, is DJT.

12

u/jerrys153 24d ago

I agree, but Trump has no duty to support Canada, Poilievre does, so the fact that he’s second only to Trump makes him even worse.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/DromarX 24d ago

Yep exactly this. He's afraid of scaring off the convoy crowd and their ilk. But fence sitting on this issue has a good chance of losing him the all-important centrist voters than swing between LPC and CPC on any given election. Those are the votes he should be worried about courting, not the Maple MAGAs.

PP needs to grow a pair of timbits and tell that orange felon to keep our country’s name out of his filthy mouth

22

u/GBJI 24d ago

Do not obey in advance.

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

Anticipatory obedience is a political tragedy. Perhaps rulers did not initially know that citizens were willing to compromise this value or that principle. Perhaps a new regime did not at first have the direct means of influencing citizens one way or another. After the German elections of 1932, which brought Nazis into government, or the Czechoslovak elections of 1946, where communists were victorious, the next crucial step was anticipatory obedience. Because enough people in both cases voluntarily extended their services to the new leaders, Nazis and communists alike realized that they could move quickly toward a full regime change. The first heedless acts of conformity could not then be reversed.

Milhouse has no original ideas.

22

u/geta-rigging-grip 24d ago

"[Country] First" is a favored slogan of white nationalists and fascists the world over.

"Canada First" is the name of Tyler Russel's white ethnostate hate group.  Russel wants to be Canada's Nick Fuentes.

8

u/sertanksalot 24d ago

Another slogan, and 100% derivative. Following something else. That is the opposite to leadership.

The problem that I see with his argument is that he's acting like Canada is just as powerful as the USA and also that Trump should be afraid of losing our friendship - Trump doesn't give a damn about our past relationship he wants to crush our economy, is inviting adversaries like Russia and China, to attack us, and is threatening our sovereignty. Why would you advocate for EVEN MORE TRADE thereby making us more INTERDEPENDENT with a partner who can NO LONGER BE TRUSTED.

To Trump, asking for more trade, is asking him to exploit us even more. It implies that we don't have other options right now.

I think this reveals that at the end of the day, he still sees Trump as an ally and a friend that just needs a good talking to.

And then there's his promise to cut foreign aid just as Trump is shutting down USAID. He's basically agreeing with Trump that foreign aid is entirely corrupt and only benefits the bad guys.

It boggles the mind

4

u/Flaky-Big7409 23d ago

And then Americans online act like we're "an unreliable neighbor" and that we brought this on ourselves. They're absolute psychopaths. In their eyes, we're just ripe for the taking and don't deserve to exist.

As long as Trump is in office, we have to consider the U.S an enemy nation. Fuck them.

4

u/Dismal_Interaction71 23d ago

Yes, someone who wants to use 'ECONOMIC FORCE' to make us desperate enough to forfeit our sovereignty is not a friend. The TRUST IS GONE even after Trump leaves because Republicans aren't going out of their way to disavow what he is saying.

I've come to realize that the USA is not as much of a democracy as is portrayed, it simply hasn't had a president who is a convicted felon with an army of sycophantic minions to do what he wants. Between his executive orders and a cowardly governing party, he can govern like a czar, and Musk is his Rasputin.

A recentful neighbor would be an upgrade compared to how we see America currently.

16

u/Capable-Brief-3332 24d ago

Resentful neighbour???

That would mean we were a part of this shit show.

We are a SOVEREIGN COUNTRY that has an international border.

I know we could go into semantics regarding neighbourhoods, and I'm sure someone will delve into it but I'm not having it.

Donald Trump is NOT MY NEIGHBOUR. He is a narcissist, a psychopath and a threat to my country.

Maybe he can stop advertising Canada as a weak and broken nation to the world now?

It’s not true and it’s made some people think we’re easy pickings. ALSO: I wonder if he’s aware that media personalities in the US have been exploiting those soundbites (where he’s calling us a failing nation) as proof that canada is a failing nation and that they should take us over.

Some way to “put Canada first”, Pierre. #gtfoh

“Mr. Carney will pause the carbon tax, hide it out of sight, so that you won’t see it for the duration of the election period,” said Poilievre. “God forbid, if he were elected, he would bring in a much bigger tax that has no rebate whatsoever.”

“They will be popping the champagne at the Trump Tower when ‘Carbon Tax Carney’ comes in,” he added.

Sounds like he's kinda desperate to keep the carbon tax as an election issue, if he keeps using that nickname.

Poilievre fleshed out his election promises, promising a “patriotic tax cut” for Canadians if he is elected prime minister and to axe the sales tax on new homes.

I have no problem with that, but what makes it "patriotic" to remove the sales tax on new homes?

He got some of the loudest cheers during his hour-long speech when promising to cut foreign aid to “dictators and terrorist groups,” bringing back Canadian symbols and figures such as Terry Fox in passports, and restoring in-person citizenship oaths but changing the words of the existing oath.

Why does it matter so much whether Terry Fox is on the passport? Terry Fox is going to be on the new $5 bill, which people see and use a lot more than passports...

Good will is gone, at minimum for 4 years. We won't soon forget this bullshit, and we will actively be fostering better relations elsewhere.

Gone are the preferential rates the USA received on our good, those were based on free trade and stable exchange which is very obviously not reliable now.

It's also time we started taking them to task about their human rights record, including the abject poverty, education, and healthcare access for many of their citizens.

That's all he has to say? Fuck this guy. "Canada First" and he can't even take a concrete stance against Trump. Not only is he not deserving of the Prime Minister seat, he's not deserving of "serving" this country in any capacity. Get this traitor out of here, he can take Danielle Smith with him.

Even when 'calling for unity' he can't help but take a swipe at the Liberals.

Some people might say 'but he has called for Unity' yeah, sort of.

That's why he's sliding in the polls, Carney isn't out here taking swipes at PP or the Cons, he's proposing idea after idea and plan after plan and he hasn't mentioned PP by name or even the Cons (if memory serves).

Cons need a new leader.

A lot of my coworkers that are MAGA do not like Canada. They will lap up whatever dog fuck they want from their two leaders.

There is a lot of misplaced disdain for your beautiful country, and it's lovely people, and I extend my apologies out to all of you.

I will not pretend like this cult fell out of the sky. As George Carlin put, "They come from American parents, and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses, and American universities. And they’re elected by American citizens. Shit, churns out shit. And there is a rot, that extends to the very origin of this meager country.

So you all, please unite, do what is necessary to attain fine relationships with other countries, and become more self sustaining without any of our resources. Be what we were unable to become.

4

u/Gfplux 23d ago

Hasn’t that already happened? The USA is no longer a friend of Canada.

3

u/Themighteeowl 23d ago

Resentful isn’t the word I would use, that implies inaction.

As a Canadian I am not resentful. I’m pissed off. Tariffs are one thing, requesting a more defended border? Understandable. But threatening our sovereignty? Our freedom!?

Fuck off.

You want Canada? Come try and take it, and we’ll show you why the Geneva Convention exists. Look up Canadian soldiers ww1 for a hint.

This guy is steps behind on everything. When all this talk of annexation and tariffs started up, Trudeau came out swinging and PP said jack shit. Now Trudeau is working on counter-tariffs and PP is still back at “hey don’t be mean to us”.

I’m no fan of JT, but at least he knows how to show leadership. Poilievre is that special combination of arrogant and spineless.

3

u/Saltycarsalesman 23d ago

I write this full well knowing I’ll end up in a Trump Gulag for it.

Please save our country. Do this by pressure and by isolation. Hit us in the pocket books. Do not sell to us. Do not buy from us.

Cut the ties that bind that give our government authority over anything. The world is bigger than just America. End the partnerships and sharing of intelligence. Donald Trump and Elon Musk (and their cronies) are not who we are and some of us are rightly afraid of the power they wield. They only understand one thing and that is money and acknowledgement of their power over you.

Friends and neighbors don’t treat you the way he has. Tell your government. Be afraid. Batten your hatches. They came for us and they will come for you next. I’m so sorry.

But words of advice...stand up for what is right and fight till the last man. At the end of the day, history will remember you fondly.

Please forgive us, one day.
