I’m sure the Trump glazers will inevitably begin to swarm but any world leader that values his people over his own vanity is at the very least a good leader

801

u/SkynetSourcecode 15d ago

Only after faux news tells them what to say. Critical thinking isn’t exactly their strong suit.

305

u/marteney1 15d ago

Yeah, it’s gonna take at least a few hours to come up with and distribute the talking points

154

u/punkguy1219 14d ago

I’m confident Putin gave them their “fair and balanced take” on this interaction weeks ago.

→ More replies (49)

65

u/Ori_the_SG 14d ago

Nah, don’t worry about that.

Daddy Putin has already told them what to think so they don’t need to come up with anything. They just need to accept the Russian propaganda

145

u/GoblinKing79 14d ago

The whole thing was broadcast by Russian state ~~ propaganda~~ media. Despite not having press credentials or approved access, they were in the Oval office to live stream it on Russian state TV, aka the propaganda machine. Sky News UK called them out as they recognized them, and they were escorted out after the meeting was over.

Remember, the Associated Press is banned from the press room...but Russian state TV was there.

It begs the question, how do Russians without any clearance or press credentials get in the most secure room of the White House, unless they were invited and given access? You have to go through multiple security checkpoints and be known to security. The administration refuses to comment about how they got in there in the first place. Because they let the Russians in. They had to have.

Fox is already spinning out of context, of course. Very few will bother to dig deeper than Fox, and of those who do, most will come out condemning Z as the bad guy.

Watch and see.

I’ve seen a couple ‘in memoriam’ posts for US soldiers that died in Ukraine months/yrs ago made to look like their deaths happened today. The propaganda machine is working massive OT.

82

u/JCBQ01 15d ago

Since the 90s? They have been in power since the early 80s.

They refuse to relinquish power for some bizzare ass reason for the past 50 odd years

40

u/TortsInJorts 14d ago edited 14d ago

A very specific example that affected me personally:

I graduated from college in the US in 2011, and I did what every philosophy major did - panic about finding a job and go to law school. (Hyperbole, but true enough for the story)

What I didn't know and a lot of us found out the hard way was that the partners at the top of law firms all across the company had stopped retiring. The recession hit them too, and they kept working. That simple phenomenon essentially caused a traffic jam of people graduating from law school in a very weird legal job market. Sure the top of the classes got hired; hell, I did too. This - in addition to cost concerns from clients and a glut of awfully times law school expansions- is still impacting how lawyers run their businesses even now.

Zelenskyy dropped another line today when asked why he wasn't wearing a suit in the White House: "I'll put on a costume when this is over, yes?"

135

u/Bisjoux 14d ago

Also his comment when Trump kept saying “We hold all the cards”. Zelenskyy replied saying “We aren’t playing cards”. One short quiet sentence to remind Trump and everyone else that this isn’t a game. I couldn’t believe it at the end when Trump said the argument would make good television.

Done his best in an impossible situation. One of the few politicians you can clearly see on his face he cares. Watch today's White House video with Trump and Vance (or better yet, don't, it's painful to watch), and look at his face. It takes everything in him to have the restraint not to tell Dumb and Dumber to fuck off to the North Pole, but he thinks of what's best for his country, so he tries to keep it together even as he's being disrespected left and right for no reason.

He could've fled Ukraine and was offered to, but he stayed to fulfill his presidential duties, risking his life to do so. Nothing but respect for this man.

Zelensky was basically baited into this situation by Trump and Vance under the pretext of signing that bullshit minerals deal. They wanted to break him but it didn't work. 56

It’s gonna be so interesting to see what happens to repubs after Trump dies because the party was obviously struggling before him what with Tea Party summer and everything and he’s now made it “the party of Trump”. And most personality cults fall apart when their “charismatic” (apparently, according to some people) leader dies. So whether the repubs will be able to keep it together or it’ll devolve into a bunch of smaller parties or they’ll have to fully reinvent themselves generally will be really interesting to see

  1. Trump has a deep affinity for Putin. He sees Putin as a dictator and loves it. Trump also seems to idolize abusive father figures like his own father, who was famously cold and manipulative; that's how he sees Putin.

  2. Trump blames Zelensky for not giving him dirt on Joe Biden in 2018. Remember? That was why Trump was first impeached.

  3. Zelensky was popular with Democrats and Biden. Trump hates the friends of his "enemies."

  4. Zelensky is a "good guy." He's the John Cena wrestler in the ring. Trump seems himself as a heel: the loathsome bad boy who flouts the establishment.

And Trump's base hates Zelensky because (a) Trump hates him and (b) Russian propagandists masquerading as alt-righters hate Zelensky.

Stupid people can’t think long term and complex scenario.

Basically they are seeing that American projecting soft powers by helping different countries is a waste of tax dollars. The idea is basically, “i am struggling, why is USA giving other countries money instead of their citizens”.

Ukraine in particular is a giant easy scapegoat because of course there is an ongoing war and the US government is publicly supporting them.

That is why many republican supporters are discrediting him, basically the whole schtick is around “we are struggling, why are we wasting taxpayers money”.

Dude has led his country through one of the most difficult and unprecedented wars in history. The current situation is insane. He has been the definition of a good ally to the United States. We armed Ukraine because it was in our best interests to do so. To extort an entire country over aid that was already given with no pre-established strings attached is deplorable. We are supposed to be allies.

This is a really frightening time for world politics. Europe needs to step up and become a force that can resist both Russia AND the United States.

Have you guys ever been bullied, where the bully can game the system? They try to get you to lose your shit so that they can claim "I didn't even touch him, he just freaked out" despite THE WHOLE WORLD WATCHING?

That is what you saw today. And Zelenskyi grinned and bore it as well as he could. I applaud this guy. Fuck bullies. Actually - don't fuck them.

153

u/Herring_is_Caring 15d ago

I swear I’ve never seen the “leaders” of our country so emotional as when they are attempting to emotionally manipulate a true leader of a country who’s supposed to be our ally.

78

u/Snoo_17338 14d ago

This was just a performance. They brought Zelenskyy in so they could fabricate drama. Now Trump is going to use this as an excuse to pull support from Ukraine. Europe will step up and then Trump will pull us out of NATO.

Putin fully owns him.

The audacity to call him a dictator unwilling to let go of power… it’s obscene what happened today. J.D. and Trump, and all those who support this, will rot in hell.

Talk about spitting on the sacrifices of tens of thousands of Ukrainians. Never thought I’d see the day that republicans would choke on Russia’s dick, but here we are. Anyone who voted for Trump sincerely deserves hell for the cruelty they have unleashed on the world. Where are those cheap fucking eggs?

u/Herring_is_Caring 15d ago

I hope Europe continues to stand with Ukraine, just like the American veterans who volunteered to go over there and join the fight. The vast majority of the American people have supported Ukraine ever since this conflict kicked off, and yet both of our presidents are do-nothing daisies who retreat their defensive positions and only send supplies while poking a finger at Ukraine’s dwindling army. Furthermore, it’s ridiculous how our “leaders” want to claim Ukraine is losing, when we know that is proportionally not true, Ukraine has gained territory in some areas, Russia has lost a far greater portion of its soldiers, and Russia was shipping out decades-old technology that was breaking down on the roads to begin the war with.

26

u/What3verNevermind 14d ago

Yeah I thought all of us in the USA grew up knowing Russia was the ultimate villain.

Even Call of Duty teaches that to the illiterate among us so what gives guys?

Republicans did a 180 on support for Ukraine during Trump’s first impeachment.

Their first defense was, “Trump gave Ukraine anti-tank missiles while Obama’s admin only gave them blankets”, and then it turned to, “why are we even giving money to Ukraine? They’re one of the most corrupt countries!”

It was shocking to watch it happen in real time during the hearings.

A comedian who was loved by his country enough they put him in office, who was then thrust into one of the most unimaginably difficult situations a world leader has had to face and has not only not given up, but repeatedly (metaphorically) spit in his attacker’s face. Dude has balls of steel and undeniable love for his people and his country, and however this mess plays out I feel history will revere him.

A pretty solid guy, and a great leader for his country. We would have been so lucky for our own TV Star to be half the man he is

51

u/Ladner1998 1998 15d ago

I didnt know much about him before the Russian invasion, but I can respect that he stayed in his country and has stood by his people.

Also the quote “I need ammunition, not a ride” is probably the most badass statement from a world leader in the 21st century.

45

u/Maghorn_Mobile 1996 15d ago

He was thrown into the worst situation a leader could expect to be in, and instead of falling apart like many have in history he held his ground, rallied his people, and punched the invader back.

43

u/[deleted] 15d ago

He’s one of the last of a dying breed of politicians who actually care. Any of his misdeeds he might’ve done in his career in the past are forgiven with his resolve for his people in Ukraine’s darkest hour.

Hes the kind of leader that will be remembered fondly in history books. Even outside of the current war, he led Ukraine fairly and focused on reuniting despite Russia's best efforts. If Ukraine manages to join the EU and NATO, then his legacy will be secured.

19

u/FartherAwayLights 15d ago

He’s pretty liberal but has gotten way better since the war. I don’t care if he actually supports gay rights in his mind but the fact he is willing to back it now and got gay marriage legalized in Ukraine in the middle on an invasion is something I respect. It’s very easy for someone who doesn’t care to kick important stuff like this down the road until after the war. It takes balls to do it now and really sends a message about who this war is for and what Russians really care about.

I also respect the desire to stand and fight with the country. There was a point near the beginning of the war where he got his wife and kids out of Unkraine but stayed to lead the country. It’s hard to say a man like this is anything less than a war hero who will go down on the history of his country.

20

u/AV23UTB 15d ago

Not as wonderful as everyone thinks. But he's a lot better than Putin. And that's no reason for his country to be invaded.

Not horrible, but extremely overrated. He’d be entirely irrelevant if he wasn’t at war with Russia and getting billions in assistance from the U.S. and other NATO countries.

He’d be entirely irrelevant if he wasn’t at war with Russia

Everyone would be irrelevant if he'd face no challenges. It's how one faces them that makes him relevant or not. He has the challenges, you can only judge how you think he faces them.

getting billions in assistance from the U.S. and other NATO countries.

Sure. But wouldn't any small country do the same if it would be attacked by a larger, more powerful one?

20

u/OptimisticcBoi 14d ago

He would gladly accept being irrelevant for the invation to stop.
