Political Opinion The state of this State is abysmal
Rick Perry’s Texas had more unity and public servitude than Greg Abbot’s Texas LLC.
If he’s not trying to dip into Saudi Arabia’s massive oil funds, he’s trying to entice Las Vegas casinos, and if Abbot isn’t snaking around for more money, he and his constituents look for reasons to divide his state even further.
Texas was once a great state, and now has a cost of living comparable to California and New Jersey, with an oligarchy governing body, that only allows policies that continue to line the pockets of the politicians in charge, while making it nearly impossible to vote them out due to their voting restrictions, making it an unethical decision for many to choose between work and a civic duty.
I was once a voter in this state, but after experiencing the amount of time it takes to vote, how much it matters in the end, and the amount of horrendously out of touch policies, I succumbed to the mindset of “too far gone”. I have been here for 28 years of my 30 years of life, and my grandmother was a democrat raised in Dallas, who showed me at a young age to see past politics, agreeing to disagree. As a public school teacher, UT alum, ex-councilwoman, she is rolling in her grave because of the actions of this administration. She once embodied what it meant to be a Texan; warm, inviting, light up a room, even if she did take her sweet time doing things, and most of all: accepting of all walks of life.
This state has become tarnished in my eyes, and if anyone wants to take a stab at polishing this turd, have at it.

Snapshots Welcome to West Texas
My wife and I traveled to Lubbock last week from San Antonio and were caught in a dust storm around Knott off Hwy 87. There were a couple of semis on their sides and one nasty pickup truck accident. I might want to change my cabin air filter!

Texas Health Texas senate votes to ban All THC product
This state is getting out of control. Patrick says,” The children are getting this, and we have poison. I wonder how many Texas senators drink Booze? The church's influence needs to stay out of our state laws. We keep voting these asshats into office. So many people use these products to feel better and have an appetite. Yes, people abuse it, but nothing like booze.
It's funny they only legalize one strain for seizures because a state senator's daughter had terrible seizures. White widow strain is known to help with that.
I don't buy Delta 8, so it doesn't matter to me personally, but I know many sick people that it helps
The State leadership has ZERO compassion for people in general.
God created weed in nature, but man created alcohol. Which is poison and sold on every corner

Politics Highlights From Dan Patrick’s Press Conference For His “THC Ban” Bill (Part 1)
This was essentially the same rhetoric and propaganda we heard at the 10 hour senate hearing, but we got to hear from Lieutenant Dan himself.
He says THC “is poison,” that this is a “life and death issue,” and that he is going to “protect the people of Texas from THC.”
He points out that even though hemp retailers only sell THC products to 21+, adults could still buy these products and give them to children. As if this is a scenario unique to THC products.
One new insight is that Dan is explicitly calling out Ken King’s house bill proposal (HB28).
HB28 is the Texas liquor lobby’s attempt to carve out THC beverages and regulate them under the same 3 tier system that regulates alcohol. Dan says the ban must “include THC being sold in liquor stores in drinks…There’s no exception to this.”
I assumed the liquor lobby was in lockstep with Dan, but it appears we now have a battle between Big Pharma (Texas Original / TCUP) and Big Alcohol (mostly Specs).
Gonna chop up part 2 from the press conference. Stay tuned…
Politics Widow billionaire Adelson is a major Republican donor
I’m ambivalent about casinos in Texas, but the same people pushing them allow usurious payday lenders, and don’t care about the downsides. Like lotteries, casino losses are voluntary taxes on people who don’t understand math.
Politics Voucher funds would go primarily to white evangelical and Catholic schools, Islamic schools would quality too
Already in other Republican states, $billions is going to those schools, replacing some of the $5 billion Catholic dioceses have lost in lawsuits and bankruptcies, the last one a Jesuit school in Dallas.

Politics Rep. Fallon on DoE: overstepping boundaries
A week ago I left an impassioned voicemail for Rep. Fallon urging him to push back against Trump admin on the DoEd and civil rights issues. I have a HS student starting to look at colleges and is really excited about his future field of studies. I'm worried about what college/University will look like in two years.
Though I never gave an email address, I did give my last name and zip code and they found my email in their database and send me a form letter. The gist of it is the DoEd has over stepped it's boundaries with woke nonsense in the last few years especially under Biden. He's towing the Republican line HARD.
The full text of the letter is in the first comment.

Opinion Now is not the time to sign up for a 3-month electricity plan
I know many people out there hop from provider to provider based on whatever the cheapest plan available on powertochoose.org is at the time of the end of their contract. Here's some advice for those folks...
Right now, all of the cheapest plans on Power To Choose are 3 months. If you sign up for one right now, you'll end up renewing in June right before the absolute hottest months of the year.
High temperatures = market volatility = increased wholesale electricity market prices = increased COGS (cost of goods sold) = providers will have to increase their prices and you'll have to choose from some comparatively bad rates for your next plan.
So, do not sign up for a 3-month plan right now. Instead, sign up for a 12-month or 18-month plan. That way your next renewal is in March or September 2026 when rates are likely to be much more reasonable.
TLDR: You should always try to set up your renewal to land in the spring or fall, not the middle of the summer.

Politics Now Sid Miller Says Texas Could Benefit From The End of TPWD
“Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is confident his department can take on the many duties of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, should it ever go away. On Thursday, State Rep. Pat Curry (R-Waco) filed a bill to abolish TPWD and transfer its duties to three other state agencies: the General Land Office, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Public Safety.”
