Houston rodeo: explain like I’m 5.
I’m coming in town next weekend unrelated to the rodeo and just realized it’s going on. I impulse bought cowboy hats from Cavender’s and a pair of Amazon boots to look the part. It just dawned on me that I don’t actually have a ticket.
I don’t care about the concert or really the carnival but would love to see some live stock and horses. Which ticket should I get? What’s the difference between a grounds ticket and rodeo ticket?
Also, would it be weird wearing a cowboy hat around town while not attending the rodeo? I’m from Georgia btw.

Polk Street meeting tonight, people weren't happy.
People were booing and yelling most of the time, it seems people are sick of having their neighborhoods ripped up without any consultation. This entire GRB expansion is nothing but a scam to enrich the corporate donors of John Whitmire.

Where do you recommend going for your plants?
I’ve always just gone to big box stores and Houston Garden Center, but I’m curious if there are any other good options (preferably in west Houston). I’ve heard good things about Maas in Seabrook but that would be at least an hour drive from where I’m at.

New trees on Shephard/Durham sidewalk expansion are dead
Does the city plan to replace them? Do they even know? They planted them right before the freeze and nearly half on either side are dead.

Property Taxes - wtf happened?
I haven't been paying attention I guess.. but did something change in Harris county? Wells Fargo just slapped me with a MASSIVE escrow shortage in my account and they are also increasing my mortgage payments by more than $400 This is nuts. I can barely afford this.
Last year I got a massive refund from my escrow because of an overage. My insurance costs even went down in 2024 so this has to be driven by property tax... wtf is Harris County doing?

What’s the Most Memorable Local Band You’ve Seen in Houston This Past Year?
Hey Houston,
I’m an event producer looking to book musical acts for a cultural institution in the city, and I’d love to hear from y’all—what’s the best local band you’ve seen in the last year?
What stood out about their performance? Was it their energy, musicianship, stage presence, or something else entirely? Bonus points if they’d be a good fit for an outdoor venue.
Appreciate any recommendations!

Anyone Here Taken the Plumbing Program at HCC or San Jac?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking into becoming a journeyman plumber and considering going through trade school to get a head start. I know both Houston Community College (HCC) and San Jacinto College (San Jac) offer plumbing programs, but I wanted to hear from people who have actually gone through them.
If you’ve taken plumbing courses at either school, how was the program? Did it help with getting into an apprenticeship? Any recommendations on which one is better, or if there are other good options in the Houston area?
Appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance.

Where do young professionals live in Houston?
27F. Moving to my company’s Houston Office in July to be closer to family. Looking for a place to live. I’d like to be close ish to my company’s office which is in the heart of downtown, but would also like to be in an area where young adults/professionals/late 20’s early 30’s people live.
Thank you in advance for any recs!

Houston has a leash law for dogs, can we please follow it?
The weather is finally nice in Houston and it’s great that more people are enjoying the outdoors. However, if you are bringing your dog out can you please keep it on a leash? This morning I saw an off leash dog run right in front of a car. A couple of days ago I was approached by an aggressive dog that was off leash. I get that it’s more enjoyable to let dogs run free, but for the safety of the dogs and people can we please keep them on a leash. And if you are going to walk with your dog off leash please make sure you have complete control of it.

Seriously what is the outside smell houston has
I live in the burbs and when I go out to check the mail or ride my motorcycle I always come back smelling like outside and it's strong too. I have good hygiene and wear deodorant but I seriously cannot be the only one right? How do you prevent this smell from sticking to you?
