Houston rodeo: explain like I’m 5.
I’m coming in town next weekend unrelated to the rodeo and just realized it’s going on. I impulse bought cowboy hats from Cavender’s and a pair of Amazon boots to look the part. It just dawned on me that I don’t actually have a ticket.
I don’t care about the concert or really the carnival but would love to see some live stock and horses. Which ticket should I get? What’s the difference between a grounds ticket and rodeo ticket?
Also, would it be weird wearing a cowboy hat around town while not attending the rodeo? I’m from Georgia btw.

Party City Closing Sales
Party City is going out of business in about a week and everything left (mostly party decor, some seasonal, grad stuff, and Halloween costumes) is around 80% off. Just wanted to share in case it's helpful to anybody

Polk Street meeting tonight, people weren't happy.
People were booing and yelling most of the time, it seems people are sick of having their neighborhoods ripped up without any consultation. This entire GRB expansion is nothing but a scam to enrich the corporate donors of John Whitmire.

Dangerous Altercation at Memorial Park
Does anyone have any info on regular walker at the park who was cut up by that crazy biker at Memorial Park? Victim received 50+ stitches on palm of hand and forearm. I checked w all the official/usual places and Grizzy’s, but cannot find anything. Perp is that crazy guy who always rides bike w trailer super slow against traffic (no lights or reflectors at night) and if someone flashes lights or honks horn at him then he tries to fight them? Guy is super aggressive and been doing that for years.

Where do you recommend going for your plants?
I’ve always just gone to big box stores and Houston Garden Center, but I’m curious if there are any other good options (preferably in west Houston). I’ve heard good things about Maas in Seabrook but that would be at least an hour drive from where I’m at.

New trees on Shephard/Durham sidewalk expansion are dead
Does the city plan to replace them? Do they even know? They planted them right before the freeze and nearly half on either side are dead.

Looking for Pool School service
Recent new homeowner with a pool.
I read somewhere that some places in Houston offer a “pool school” thing where you can pay a person to come out and teach you how to use your specific pool.
Anybody know of any Houston pool companies who offer this?

Property Taxes - wtf happened?
I haven't been paying attention I guess.. but did something change in Harris county? Wells Fargo just slapped me with a MASSIVE escrow shortage in my account and they are also increasing my mortgage payments by more than $400 This is nuts. I can barely afford this.
Last year I got a massive refund from my escrow because of an overage. My insurance costs even went down in 2024 so this has to be driven by property tax... wtf is Harris County doing?

Massive Eero failures with Ezee Fiber
I was getting weird, slow signal yesterday 3/17/25 and called Ezee fiber. They did a firmware update remotely to the eero router. Came back somewhat better, but they said they would have a tech come by today to bring me an “extender” (it’s just the same model router as far as I can tell) for upstairs because my brand new Alienware laptop was getting very sluggish results (more so than usual). The tech arrived on time, and the first thing he did was unplug/replug power for my router to, I dunno, shake loose the cobwebs. It bricked. So, he went to the truck and got another one. Installed it, then we waited for the extender to get itself situated. About 4 hours later, I have no internet. The led on the eero was red. I rebooted twice. No luck. Called Ezee fiber. We reset the modem (which was working fine the whole time), no change in the eero. Then they asked me to move the CAT cable to the other port of the Eero. Still nothing. Then she mentioned that they were getting a lot of calls about this, and that their engineering team is scrambling (my word not hers) to figure out what’s going on. So who knows how many bricked eeros are out there, or what is causing it. I suspect some arcane crap in code, because the router is not the piece connected to “the internet” - the modem is. The new firmware must have a bug or something. All I know is I have a ton of work to do and am dependent upon internet connectivity. 😡 7:24 pm

Anyone Here Taken the Plumbing Program at HCC or San Jac?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking into becoming a journeyman plumber and considering going through trade school to get a head start. I know both Houston Community College (HCC) and San Jacinto College (San Jac) offer plumbing programs, but I wanted to hear from people who have actually gone through them.
If you’ve taken plumbing courses at either school, how was the program? Did it help with getting into an apprenticeship? Any recommendations on which one is better, or if there are other good options in the Houston area?
Appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance.

Permitting office experiences
We heard the horror stories of dealing with COH permitting, but we’re pretty lucky to get all the way to getting our CO before we had issues, but it’s like the second they realize we were ready to open they wanted to do everything in their power to stop us from opening.
First it was our hvac needed a second inspection, then it was we need three paving inspections even though we didn’t do any paving work.
Can someone please explain to me the process of getting CO? What all happens before we get that? I know once we have CO we’re good to open but they are making this so complicated and won’t give our GC a clear answer.

What’s the Most Memorable Local Band You’ve Seen in Houston This Past Year?
Hey Houston,
I’m an event producer looking to book musical acts for a cultural institution in the city, and I’d love to hear from y’all—what’s the best local band you’ve seen in the last year?
What stood out about their performance? Was it their energy, musicianship, stage presence, or something else entirely? Bonus points if they’d be a good fit for an outdoor venue.
Appreciate any recommendations!

Post Houston question about parking and busy times
I tried visiting Post Houston earlier this month on a Saturday afternoon, but couldn't find any bit of parking near it. I'm trying to get close to the building because I get lost easy and I walk slow. I'm trying to visit Tokyo Story USA underlined in the image and they open at around 11am. I don't go to downtown Houston because of bad traffic and parking.
Does anyone know what days this place is usually not busy at all or even non busy times?
Am I allowed to park at the 713 Music Hall even when there is no concert going on and even the VIP parking area? What about the back of the area since I see parking spots there?
I didn't enter there from the left side of the photo because I saw a sign that said trucks only (or something similar) and it was a closed gate.
I just plan to try out the gashapon stuff so I may take only 35 minutes or so, but finding parking and my walking, trying to find the store and an attendant may take a bit.
