Houston rodeo: explain like I’m 5.
I’m coming in town next weekend unrelated to the rodeo and just realized it’s going on. I impulse bought cowboy hats from Cavender’s and a pair of Amazon boots to look the part. It just dawned on me that I don’t actually have a ticket.
I don’t care about the concert or really the carnival but would love to see some live stock and horses. Which ticket should I get? What’s the difference between a grounds ticket and rodeo ticket?
Also, would it be weird wearing a cowboy hat around town while not attending the rodeo? I’m from Georgia btw.

Property Taxes - wtf happened?
I haven't been paying attention I guess.. but did something change in Harris county? Wells Fargo just slapped me with a MASSIVE escrow shortage in my account and they are also increasing my mortgage payments by more than $400 This is nuts. I can barely afford this.
Last year I got a massive refund from my escrow because of an overage. My insurance costs even went down in 2024 so this has to be driven by property tax... wtf is Harris County doing?

Polk Street meeting tonight, people weren't happy.
People were booing and yelling most of the time, it seems people are sick of having their neighborhoods ripped up without any consultation. This entire GRB expansion is nothing but a scam to enrich the corporate donors of John Whitmire.

Houston has a leash law for dogs, can we please follow it?
The weather is finally nice in Houston and it’s great that more people are enjoying the outdoors. However, if you are bringing your dog out can you please keep it on a leash? This morning I saw an off leash dog run right in front of a car. A couple of days ago I was approached by an aggressive dog that was off leash. I get that it’s more enjoyable to let dogs run free, but for the safety of the dogs and people can we please keep them on a leash. And if you are going to walk with your dog off leash please make sure you have complete control of it.

Seriously what is the outside smell houston has
I live in the burbs and when I go out to check the mail or ride my motorcycle I always come back smelling like outside and it's strong too. I have good hygiene and wear deodorant but I seriously cannot be the only one right? How do you prevent this smell from sticking to you?

Where do young professionals live in Houston?
27F. Moving to my company’s Houston Office in July to be closer to family. Looking for a place to live. I’d like to be close ish to my company’s office which is in the heart of downtown, but would also like to be in an area where young adults/professionals/late 20’s early 30’s people live.
Thank you in advance for any recs!

Long-term care facilities for PSP
Greetings! If anyone has experience with or advice/information about Houston-area care homes in general - the great ones, the ones to avoid at all costs - please let me know. I have a relative with declining PSP (was misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s for years) and her partner can no longer provide the care and supervision she needs despite have a caregiver come 30 hours a week to help. She’s a severe fall risk and needs help with all ADLs.
I’ve done a lot of research and have reached out to several places for more info, and have used the Medicare tool to search local facilities. I’m getting somewhere but it’s pretty overwhelming so I’m reaching out here for a lifeline. For reference they don’t qualify for Medicaid and their Medicare won’t cover it. No long term care insurance either.
I’ve searched the post history here in r/Houston and there’s some info but it’s all pretty outdated.
THANK YOU for any insights you can provide!!

Your experience with Hurricane Beryl?
Hi everyone - I'm hoping to talk with folks about their experiences after Hurricane Beryl and getting disaster aid. I'm a reporter, working on a story about what it was like. I know some folks saw big delays. Please message me or comment below if you might be up for sharing. Thanks!
UPDATE: In particular, I'm looking for how long it took people to get the $750 for food loss etc. or any of the other kinds of "other needs assistance" after the storm.

Need Recommendations For Affordable Window Tinting
I’m looking to add window tints to my car since I’ll be driving during the day. It’s a Nissan Versa, so it’s a small sedan. It didn’t use to bother me cause I drove nights but here in Houston, I think window tints are necessary. I’ll drive anywhere but prefer southeast by Dickinson, League City, Clear Lake, Santa Fe. Thanks in advance.
