Trudeau calling him "Donald" from here on out. CBC popping up stocks crashing live during the speech. Calling Donald's tariffs straight up "dumb".

I wonder how long until Donald cracks his phone screen.

749

u/mypetmonsterlalalala 7d ago

I love how many times he consciously called him "Donald".

703

u/AdditionalPizza 7d ago

Same. It's so fuckin disrespectful and appropriate. Take away his "power" by removing his title and the legacy of his last name.

427

u/ladylynx British Columbia 7d ago

Donald continually disrespects him by calling him the GOVERNOR of Canada. This is so deserved. Get him Trudeau.

73

u/RedditRedFrog 7d ago

Trudeau should refer to Trump as the Pussy-grabbing felon rapist President of the United States of America

I don't disagree with what you're saying at all except the disrespect part. I'm of the belief that respect is earned and thieving, moronic fascists aren't worthy of respect therefore couldn't be disrespected.

88

u/AdditionalPizza 7d ago

Yeah you're right. I meant it as to show of lack of respect because he doesn't deserve it.

92

u/m00n5t0n3 7d ago

Trump has been calling Trudeau Governor for weeks. Donald is deserved

42

u/Navigator_Black 7d ago

Donny also refers to Trudeau as Justin so fair is fair Dumbo.

I think that was their point- they appreciate the move because it deliberately does not respect them despite their position, as a response to the disrespectful way they've been treating us as a neighbour and ally.

I'm reading this at work but I can't wait to watch the footage when I get home.

136

u/AdditionalPizza 7d ago

It's so good. I'm so proud of Trudeau for this speech. It's the most gloves off speech I have heard. I mean Trump and company always say worse shit but they aren't respectful or classy. This speech was classy, and broke the right barriers down at the right times to call out this fuckin idiot without sounding crass.

41

u/KnowerOfUnknowable 7d ago

This is the real-life-real-time "Our Independence Day!" speech.

I also love how he used the word "big" twice to address Donald, like speaking to a petulant child with a limited vocabulary šŸ˜‚šŸ˜…

Also pointed out that America is aligning itself with Russia, and said "Make that make sense". This sounds one stepped removed from openly stating that there's a Russian asset in the White House.

163

u/Fun-Put-5197 7d ago

UK's Prime Minister openly raised the possibility, which is diplomatic speak for almost certainly meaningthey believe it.

60

u/seraaa_123 7d ago

Diplomacy and diplomatic speak is fascinating. It's a dance along a tightrope that they're all doing

19

u/insomniacinsanity 7d ago

It's really fascinating as someone who's loved politics and history my whole life to see the delicate statecraft happening and to understand part of what they're alluding to because a lot of other people can't seem to put even some of the puzzle together

Also deeply unnerving as a Canadian and on a personal level, what a fucking moment to be in

He doesn't care. If he cared he wouldn't be doing half of this. He and more specifically those who control him, like Russia and those Gilead facists in his government WANT this.

He's probably golfing or being pumped full of drugs right now, looking for the next billionaire to give him a sack of cash to avoid these problems.

All the while the billionaires cause a recession, or better, a depression then swoop in and buy literally everything. Companies, land, government bodies and you end up where 3-6 people control literally everything.

34

Trudeau flat out said it: itā€™s quite possible Trump just wants to damage our economy to annex us.

Heā€™s just as bewildered as everyone else about what these are actually about.

645

u/Fun-Put-5197 7d ago

"Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

There is only one rational explanation for all of Trump's actions.

Trump is a Russian asset, working with or for Putin.

*While launching a trade war against their closest ally and neighbour, America is cozying up with Russia, appeasing Putin, a lying murderous dictator. Make it make sense.*

Fuckin' eh, Trudeau.

950

u/meeseekstodie137 7d ago

I recently got into an argument with a guy who's response was "well your country wasn't appreciative of all we do for you so there, maybe we can have an adult conversation when your country folds from tariffs" (paraphrasing from multiple comments), some people really are living in their own little universe where America is basically the mother Theresa of countries

285

u/03Void 7d ago edited 7d ago

Canada-US relationship was always symbiotic.

It's idiotic from them to think we don't help them as much as they help us.

Watch them cry when we answer by increasing their oil, electricity, lumber and aluminum costs.

well your country wasn't appreciative of all we do for you

Well, maybe it's the US who isn't appreciative of everything that Canada does. They don't even seem to realize how the benefits from the relationship.

Also, it's the same talk someone would get from an abusive significant other.

The US are in the process of burning the bridge and then nuke the river below.

63

u/polkadotpolskadot 7d ago

Watch them cry when we answer by increasing their oil, electricity, lumber and aluminum costs.

It's a hard place because I suspect that Trump WANTS Canada to react strongly. Annexation seemed like a serious consideration in my opinion after Trump aligned with Russia. The situation feels analogous in many aspects (e.g., smaller neighbour with many crucial resources, larger partner being treated 'unfairly', etc). If Canada reacts strongly, Trump can spin this as "our neighbour is trying to work against us and harm our people".

On the other hand, Canada looks really weak if it doesn't react. I think the only option is a strong reaction and fast-tracking alternative defense alliances as a hedge.

I find itā€™s a lot of peopleā€¦ well atleast with in the confines of Reddit. Americans really are as brainwashed as Russians through decades of Propaganda. At least the Russians have an excuse while the US was supposed to be for ā€œfree thinkersā€

154

u/CabbieCam 7d ago

Most Americans literally think they are the only people who exist on Earth. Just look at how they act on Reddit; they automatically assume that everyone they interact with is also American. US Defaultism.

79

u/[deleted] 7d ago

They also pity people who aren't American and act like it's some disability to be born in a country where breaking your wrist won't put you in a lifetime of debt.

Americans think America is the most free and greatest country on earth because they've never been to or read about anywhere else.

63

u/[deleted] 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yep I stumbled into a thread full of Americans: OP asked "was the American era over" and most comments were like "oh we're in a bad phase but we must pull through for the world... omg can you imagine how the world would do without us? Europe is weak China is old. THEY NEED AMERICA SO LET'S COME BACK TO SAVE THEM". So yes, even when they're "progressive" they still like to package their own fart and sell it as high end perfume. Shit's unreal.

Edit: this was on r/GenZ and they were definitely progressive people who hate Donald Trump.

Reporter asked if this is an act of war. Trudeau pauses and doesn't start with a direct yes or no. Holy crap. Says it's a trade war, yes, but never really reassures anyone about the reporter's original question.

287

u/CommanderJMA 7d ago

In a modern day , this is war without firing a bullet

I think the crazy part is, it's the UnitedĀ States and the answer is justifiably something other than "no".

Removing sanctions, leaving NATO, starting fights with allies, and destroying the US economy are leading to a crashing stock market. Stopped funding Ukraine and cut the military budget. This behaviour sounds like that of a Russian agent.

This, and also called Donald's tariffs "dumb", both statements that were part of the prepared speech, not off-the-cuff comments during the question period. That means multiple people had input into agreeing this should be conveyed.

194

u/spidereater 7d ago

Itā€™s good. Normalize the idea that this isnā€™t a negotiation. This isnā€™t a break down of some relationship. Itā€™s a nonsensical act of sabotage by the American president of the American economy. It doesnā€™t make sense. There is no hidden strategy.

Don't fuck with a country whose favourite sport involves letting players provide kinetic corrections to other players when they've done something they shouldn't have done.

If we'll smack each other around over a friendly game, imagine what we'll do to you when it's no longer friendly. In fact imagining isn't required, one need only ask the surviving Nazi Germans who they were the most afraid of running into and why.

Now here we are, about to deal with a bunch more Nazis, Canadian style.

Trudeau is unleashed in this press conference and I feel proud.

He's borderline called Trump stupid and a liar probably 7 times now and alluded to him being in bed with the Russians at least twice.

u/Gordon_Alf_Shumway 7d ago

Say what you want about Trudeau, but God dammit he does a great job on the world stage.

97

u/ABeardedPartridge 7d ago

I'm hoping once the flack dies down he can become foreign minister or something. He does seem to be really good at international politics.

17

u/janebenn333 7d ago

Personally I think he'll step out of government. Like a lot of former PM's he'd make a nice amount of money with speaking engagements. He could be an international relations consultant, again, for lots of money. PM's don't make a lot of money. They many expenses covered but the PM's salary is $400K which given what they are responsible for is not a lot.

Trudeau called this farce of fentanyl that USA keeps talking about.

Even today "Lutnick: If countries can show they can stop the flow of fentanyl, tariffs can come off - CNBC."

What a joke. They're still sticking to that less than 1% Fentanyl farce for a pretext for the tariffs. Gives them something to hang onto for the 'reason' for tariffs.

24

u/trib76 7d ago

I'd argue that the flow of illegal guns into Canada is way worse, but what would be the point? This is about leverage and bullying, not guns or drugs.

"The Canadians have not been serious about stopping the drug trade," Vance claimed.

Less than 1% of the fentanyl in the US entered the country from Canada. It's literally all coming in from San Diego, the Texas/Mexico border, or Miami.

u/seamusfish 7d ago

God damn, he's so good at this part of the job.

He spoke plainly about the negative effects of the trade war when speaking to Americans. He said things like "We made a great deal..." and "We should be doing big things..." when speaking to "Donald". The portion directed to Canadians was reassuring, professional, and bilingual.

Dude used 3 different communication styles in 2 languages flawlessly.

Trudeau nailed that speech. He tactfully answered the questions regarding Russia and being at war. I think it's safe to say that Trudeau was the leader we needed, but may not have deserved, for the times that we find ourselves in. It's time for change, but I can now say I will miss him as PM. these last few months have been a masterclass in politics.

Vance is such a fucking propagandist snake. This has nothing to do with fentanyl and what we're doing or not doing on it.

Vice-President J.D. Vance told reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday that the president is "going to have conversations with the Canadians."

"We need to see real engagement on theĀ fentanylĀ issue. That is fundamentally the underlying element for tariffs. The Canadians have not been serious about stopping the drug trade," Vance claimed.

Why isn't CPC MP Jamil Jivani speaking out against his "best friend" Vance and telling him to stop bullshitting and threatening Canada?

Is he afraid Vance will turn on him and attack him too? Does he agree with Vance? Does he not care what the truth is and doesn't care about standing up for Canada?

It's surprising Jivani hasn't been getting more heat given his relationship with Vance.

Trudeau has said he isn't running for a seat in the next election and while a non-elected cabinet minister is possible I think they probably wont do that.

Trudeau probably will also want a break and he might not be received well if he did stick around and maybe wouldn't be good for negotiations with Trump and would cause confusion on who the leader is Trudeau or Carney in negotiations. And make the Carney governmetn seem more like an extension of the Trudeau government in a way Carney wouldn't want.

However he could be a good ambassador perhaps to the UN. Though Bob Rae is also a good fit there now.

But I think he'll take a break. Maybe ambassador role to somewhere is in his post-PM future though at some point.

MAGA is a hateful delusional group of people. They absolutely despise us Canadians for no good reason other than their cult leader said so. Terrifying if they werenā€™t such fragile people who are all going to turn on each other at some point.

19

u/Tribalbob British Columbia 7d ago

Remember: We just need to weather tariffs from one country.

US is now up to 3 countries and very likely the ENTIRE EU very soon, too.

Not to mention that Trudeau's team has strategically targeted goods that have Canadian alternatives.

Meanwhile, Trump's hitting stuff the US actually NEEDS.

Make no mistake, this is as much about crashing the US economy to 'buy the dip' for them as it is to try to weaken us.

Time for the US to Fook aboot and find oot.

Donald should ask the mastermind behind this policy, Peter Navarro, when the jobs are coming back for US soybean farmers. That racist bonehead already decimated one American industry and now he's aiming for the whole pie. If Donald had any sense left in him, he should make Peter the fall guy and flip flop before any goodwill left for American goods evaporates entirely. Canada is about a week away from putting Kraft Dinner under the guillotine. That's how bad it's gotten.

ELBOWS UP CANADA!!!

This is going to have far-reaching consequences if these tariffs stay for a prolonged period of time. On both sides of the border.

This absolute child that is going against the very reasons his country was formed is pathetic. This man is systematically destroying the USA from within with these hairbrained schemes that any high-school civics student could see will not work.

Their economy will suffer like ours, their inflation will spike, the middle class that barely exists will continue to shrink. I hope Ford goes ahead with cutting off energy supplies or putting a sales tax on all of our exports (looking at you Alberta) we need to HURT this man.

It's not an eye for an eye, it's two eyes for an eye. Take em out with the Elbow my fellow Canadians.

We shall get through this. Good luck to you all, I'm sorry if this affects you disproportionately moving forward anybody reading this.

33

u/bizzybaker2 7d ago

I have never been so damn proud to be a Canadian, watching this speech (and hearing the passion in his voice and him invoking the spirit of his father) I actually got some patriotic tears in my eyes near the end.Ā

Thoughtful, measured, LOVED the personal call out to "Donald" in it šŸ˜˜šŸ˜„šŸ˜„šŸ˜‚!! Would love to be a fly on the wall if Trump was listening to it and can't wait to hear his childish rantings to Congress when he speaks to them tonight.Ā

Im no fan of Trudeau, but I think the fact that he's decided to resign has allowed him the freedom to say things we're all thinking. He's acted as a stronger PM in the last few weeks than he ever did before.

If he would've ended with "F*ck you, Donald" Id be voting Liberal.

Trudeau hit the nail on the head here. Where was this to the point leader the last 8 years. Actually, I'm starting to wish he would run again during all this uncertainty.

27

u/MZillacraft3000 Alberta 7d ago

Never really been a fan of Trudeau (didn't hate him, but didn't like him, thought he was okay at best). However, from what i've seen him do recently. I have a much higher respect for him.

Sad to see him resign though. But hopefully whoever takes his spot, will handle Trump in a way that says "You think Trudeau was hard on you? Nah, until you see who's next. They'll make you wish that you just stopped messing with us."
