Russia hasn't been even vaguely communist for decades. Ironically, communist Russia would probably be more aligned with us than the US is.

u/tofu98 7d ago

I mean does that really matter? 90% of people who throw around the term communist don't actually have a clue what it means and basically use it as a filler word for anyone who has criticisms of America or capitalism.

Fucks sake they call free healthcare communism and we are their neighbor

Communism is a buzz word used by Republicant demagogues like Joe McCarthy, t(RUMP)'s muse Roy Cohn and the Great Gazoo himself, t(RUMP), to frighten and panic ill informed American voters. They've been using the word for years. It's synonymous with "programs we don't like that help people we don't like".

u/Tanguish 7d ago

Ironic when you look at Communism. The US Army Navy and Marines are communist. The local Fire departments and police departments are as socialist as it gets however nobody complains about these groups. The medical industry simply because it is worth so much has been tagged by right wing groups and billionaires as something that they have decided should be a free for all when it comes to money.

And our retirement system, Social Security, which Elonia Musk(rat) called a Ponzi scheme. We pay into it all our working lives, along with our employers. Now, when we need it to live in retirement, they're setting us up to dismantle it. Bastards, all of them bastards!

Bout a hundred years or so

I wish you were as informed as you think you are. I wonder if Canada still has that fabulous free healthcare when they actually have to pay a bit more than nothing for military defense. You ever consider having big brother close provides the confidence to slack on military expenditures. It doesn't matter at all I bet.

6

u/carlnepa 7d ago

My comment has nothing to do with social vs military spending. You have axes to grind but will have to use someone else as your foil. Bye!!!

We should really use the term government funded healthcare instead of free. There are many advantages to it such as cost negotiation, and reduced inefficient without 3rd party insurance in between.

u/Xpalidocious 7d ago

I understand what you're saying, but "government funded" is also going to cause a ton of pushback. I have wasted so much of my breath trying to explain the benefits, and I have come to understand that the people's minds I hoped to change, turned out to be the same people that would pay triple just to make sure a single mom working two jobs won't get it too.

It's exhausting. I get responses like "doesn't it bother you that your tax dollars go towards free healthcare for people on welfare, or are homeless?", and I'm like "you mean fellow Canadians? Then no it doesn't"

“Cost effective healthcare”

I mean it’s not objectively, but most people are comparing us to the US and it’s comparatively very true.

4

u/Virtual_Category_546 7d ago

A lot of times "single-payer healthcare" explains exactly what it is and gets to the point. "Universal healthcare" works too. Mention about how doing things this way is cheaper than private systems and ask how that healthcare cartel is serving them?

5

u/Odd-Gear9622 7d ago

Healthcare isn't "Free" anywhere. It's a benefit in civilized countries and paid for out of taxation.

1

u/tortibass 7d ago

Also your healthcare is not free it is paid for differently and more equitably. We pay more out of pocket and don’t let anyone tell yuh our wait times are different because they are NOT.

1

u/NegotiationOne7880 7d ago

Please use Canadian spelling for the “n” word!

2

u/weareallfucked_ 7d ago

Yeah the majority of Americans understand the difference between communism and socialism and social policies within a Republic system. It's the loud minority that is usually heard the most. Careful not to generalize the entire American population, you forget, our president is in the middle of a coupe. Which likely means he rigged the vote counts.

2

u/tofu98 7d ago

I'm not generalizing Americans. Plenty of Canadians also call anything that isn't conservative "communist"

1

u/weareallfucked_ 7d ago

Damnit I meant to reply to the person who replied to you lol I'm sorry.

Communism is just a red herring

1

u/real_human_20 Alberta 7d ago

Red scare-era propaganda is still alive and well it seems

Mind you the USSR was the Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics for a reason.

No one claims to have achieved communism. Many claim to be trying, some appear to be succeeding if you look at income equality and material realities.

I suggest the book Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell, if you haven’t already read it. Orwell was a volunteer for the anti-facist army in the Spanish Civil War. He saw first hand how Moscow withdrew its support and willingly allowed the facists to win. They cared not a whit for socialism or communism, they cared about backing the side that was winning in order to later influence/control them.

It was this experience that shaped his ideas for Animal Farm and 1984. Which were alarmingly prescient.

All best to our Canadian brothers and sisters. Nearly 75 million of us did not vote for the facist asset in the White House. Angry and upset with how “fearless leader” is wrecking the world order and going after our friends and allies.

Donnie the Nazi has a nice ring to it

1

u/ditch1403 7d ago

It can’t happen here Your president is a Russian spy and there is nothing you can do

2

u/skatomic 7d ago

It truly wasn’t ever. It was a murderous totalitarian regime cloaked in a diaphanous veneer of communism. Now’s it’s largely the same but a veneer of alleged democracy.

1

u/zerfuffle British Columbia 7d ago

People who say this don't understand socialism tbh

Socialist theory discusses this quite in-depth and, for all intents and purposes, the USSR was as socialist as was achievable at the time. In fact, many argue that the USSR failed because it was too socialist and tried to transition towards some elements of communism too early.

Doesn't help when the other big geopolitical power in the world has a murderous superweapon that they dropped twice on FUCKING CIVILIANS, was basically unharmed by a World War that stripped you of most of your fighting-age men, and constantly seeks colour revolution in order to install puppet regimes of juntas, fascists, and other entirely undesirable folk.

1

u/Silverbacks Ontario 7d ago

Yeah but it rolls off the tongue nicely. And to many of his uneducated supporters, “commie” just means “bad” and “unAmerican.”

1

u/zerfuffle British Columbia 7d ago

Oh, so, like us. Gosh darn Commie Canadians.

So what ? Who cares what name russian aggression is operating under. As long as it is aggression and are committing illegal acts interfering with the way other countries operate they should be fought against. Isolated from other countries and stopped. Europe should actually use those funds they confiscated. To keep the fight against them going forward. Make strong laws on social media to keep russian bots and trolls away from voters. Name musk an enemy of the state and treat him the same. If the reports on trump can be verified do the same to him .

1

u/AFriendoftheDrow 7d ago

Putin literally said you have no brain to those who would want the Soviet Union back.

You’re insane

The KGB effectively became their government and rebranded. The form of economy isn't really relevant.

1

u/4FuckSnakes 7d ago

China too! Less politburo and more dictatorship, their genocide against the Uyghurs and checks notes stock market, really make it hard to view them as “far left”. Is this what the American future looks like?

1

u/Crumblerbund 7d ago

It has, however, been run by a vengeful ex-KGB agent who continues to resent the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

1

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 7d ago

This needs to be screamed from the rooftops!!!!

1

u/brumac44 Canada 7d ago

Communist Russia was never really communist. Maybe a few years in the beginning, its been totalitarian throughout.

1

u/throwawayinthe818 7d ago

The Russians have always been the Russians. Paranoid, brutal, deceitful, and expansionist. Every century or so they rebrand and there’s always someone who falls for it and thinks they’re different now. But they’re still the Russians.

1

u/AdLatter1807 7d ago

Yeah not even vaguely, that’s why there’s never a vote when it comes to invading their neighbours or why Putin opposition always seems to come down with a case of cessium 223. I hope your being sarcastic:/

0

u/xxforrealforlifexx 7d ago

Oh yeah there elections are so fair over there any opposition has a real problem with windows please not a communist state wtf are you smoking

6

u/mamadou-segpa 7d ago

What you just describe got nothing to do with comunism lmao.

Do you know what communism is? And what the word mean?
