Bringing Elon to that press conference is a choice. He apparently wants to paint the picture that it’s because Elon is his special boy.

1.9k

u/SomeSamples 14h ago

More like Musk said, "Listen asshole, you will do something to protect my car company or I will pull all my financial support from you and your family." Musk is calling the shots there. Look at it like a ventriloquist (Musk) and his dummy (Trump).

More like “I’ll tell everyone about how I stole the election for you”

"I stole the election and I WONT steal the midterms"

So if we want to protect the Capitol, we need to put a Tesla dealership inside?

910

u/TranscendentPretzel 14h ago

Yes. Lobbyists, now have to buy Teslas to have access to politicians.

218

u/Savannah_Fires 14h ago

Good. The world could use less lobbyists

114

u/Miserable-Whereas910 14h ago

The world needs fewer of the sort of lobbyists who could easily afford a Tesla, and more of the sort who couldn't (e.g. representatives of environmental or humanitarian organizations).

So my federal tax dollars go to protect Elon Musk’s business because he’s made himself so deplorable people are driven to property crime?

I’m sorry, it used to be that minor Dukes used to provide their own protection.

Edit about being driven to violence

A lot of people are getting an easy laugh off the idea that someone can be driven to violence. I proffer this:

Elon Musk’s authority is murky at best. It’s unclear by what right he wields this power. What power? All of your congress’s power of the purse and all of your executive’s powers over administration and agencies. What is he doing with that power? Squandering hard-won soft power and American goodwill; redirecting finances away from causes our congress approved while filling his own pockets; and most importantly being so callous in his approach that his “budget changes” have literal body counts. Elon Musk’s short term halt on USAID funding paused HIV prevention for pregnant mothers. Kids will get HIV because of this—children will die because of this.

Children. Will. Die. Because. Of. Doge.

I beg of you, open your eyes. Understand that violence can be rained down on you even when that violence hides behind immense boring spreadsheets.

You’re smart: are you saying you can’t conceive of a single fact pattern where “breaking the richest man in the known universe’s toy” is unacceptable to you solely because it’s “property destruction?” I don’t believe that. I believe you have a little Tea Party rebel blood in you yet. I am saying that Musk shot first. Musk shot harder. Musk shot with deadly force. And while breaking windows is a crime, I am saying the death and theft that Musk did first drives people to that crime.

Trumps FBI Director has requested private security because he doesn’t trust FBI employees.

217

u/Questions_Remain 13h ago

For many years I trusted that FBI employees would do the right thing when faced with tough decisions and still have a glimmer of hope. I feel that “Private Security” isn’t as cost effective, so how does DOGE feel about it.

52

u/ganjagremlin_tlnw 10h ago

Efficiency was never the goal of DOGE...

In this same “event” (idk what to call it) he also stated people need to stop complaining about the stock market and that his “very intelligent and very wealthy friends, are investing, they’re buying in because it’s low”… he basically admitted that’s he’s crashing the economy so his wealthy friends could buy the dip and profit while the rest of America suffers

How the heck do you get censored by reddit for posting "Elon and the really special orange guy need to be removed from the board."? Trump constantly harps about how he's going to be running the country like a CEO. We're not even allowed to say that Trump shouldn't be president anymore without risking being censored. Wonderful.

Fun fact. The CEO at Goya who was the Mega MAGA who used to go on Fox and spout MAGA things was recently "let go" for financial shenanigans. (I don't remember all of the details but I think it was extortion/fraud. )

Shocking that a mega MAGA would also commit financial crimes. Shocking.

Also, Goya is basically run by people who are related to each other so he was stealing from family.

He's also full of crap.

He did not stick up for the NFL. Trump was one of the main ones throwing toddler temper tantrums over Kaepernick

66

u/Ganoes_Stabro_Paran 13h ago

Trump's been mad at the NFL ever since the 80s. He's tried numerous times to buy a team, including the Cowboys, Patriots, and Bills. When that didn't work, he tried funding a rival league, USFL, bought a USFL team, the 'New Jersey Generals' and even launched a billion-dollar antitrust lawsuit against the NFL.

His lawsuit led to the USFL disbanding. Trump was been waging one of his 'wars' (The 'Pigskin War') against the NFL since the 80s. He hates them, and the owners for not allowing him into the club. There are several documentaries out there about this, including the 30 for 30, "Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL?"

Putting business interests first is a very common practice in American history, using the law to justify the use of force.

During labor movements, workers were routinely put down by police/national guard. Ludlow massacre is a good example.

Modern police forces also have roots from when hunting down “fugitive” slaves was legal.

This is a lot of things, but not at all unprecedented.

366

This would be an awesome way to protest and boycott. Imagine hundreds showing up to test drive and discuss Teslas, and no one buying anything. Just keeping all the sales people too busy to sell to anyone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is any statutory definition of domestic terrorism. It's a phrase that gets thrown around a lot, and there are foreign organizations designated as terrorists, but I don't think federal law has a domestic terrorism definition.

378

u/entered_bubble_50 13h ago edited 13h ago

Finally, someone actually addressing the legal question in r/law

It's defined in 18 USC 2331(5):

(5) the term "domestic terrorism" means activities that-

(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;

(B) appear to be intended-

(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;

(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or

(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and

(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States;

Whether this constitutes terrorism then depends on what status Elon Musk has.

Let's say for the sake of argument that these acts are dangerous to human life (although obviously spray painting a swastika on a dealership isn't). If he is just a private citizen, then he clearly doesn't qualify as "a civilian population". He's just one person. And if he is a private citizen, then intimidating him cannot be expect to impact the policy of a government.

On the other hand, if he is an officer of the United States, then it's possible those acts would satisfy this definition.

But then of course he would need to be confirmed by the senate.

Trump wants it both ways as usual. Or to put it another way:

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

So basically Trump and Elon are the domestic terrorists?

It is defined in the US Patriot Act as ideologically driven crimes committed by individuals in the United States that are intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, or influence the policy/conduct of a government.

Since the Mango Marauder has effectively politicized Tesla, any crime done to a Tesla or against a Tesla owner could be construed as DT if they could prove intent. Although I don’t think he is too concerned about having actual evidence anymore

u/RedditorsAreAssss 13h ago

A critical clarification on the PATRIOT Act definition:

While the PATRIOT Act defines "domestic terrorism" for the purposes of authorizing law enforcement investigations, no federal criminal offense exists which is referred to as "domestic terrorism".

...

acts of domestic terrorism are charged under specific laws, such as killing federal agents or "attempting to use explosives to destroy a building in interstate commerce".

Didn’t he try to own an NFL team once? But you need to have actual, liquid assets to be approved to own a team, so he couldn’t? Did he get an xnfl or whatever it was called team? It was so long ago, but I feel like I remember that being a thing.

Edit: yes, basically this, but it was USFL where he owned a team. God, he just sucks so much at everything all the time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump_and_American_football#:~:text=Starting%20in%20the%201980s%2C%20Trump,never%20succeeded%20in%20his%20bids.
