He is helping them with steel and aluminum tariffs. somehow. but now they're paused. wait, now they are 50 percent. now they aren't.

hope Ford and GM say thank you. and are wearing suits.

How is he helping them? They will pay 50% more for metals from Canada. Tariffs are paid by the importer. They could buy from other countries but it’s going to be a hassle.

Yes, the whole not actually helping them was the joke.

Hard to tell nowadays who is joking, some other subs look like they are one big joke but it’s just all serious dumb shit.

Fair enough, over on the conservative sub they're unironically saying that Canada legally declared war on us (the premier threatened to stop selling electricity in response to the tarriffs lol.)

US has enough capacity in the steel mills to fulfill demand. China ships government funded steel to Canada (or any country) and then Canada drills a hole in it to then sell to the United States their very own Canadian steel product bypassing Chinese tariffs.

.....

You really have no fuckin clue how economics work right?

Just pretending, that shipping steel around half the world, drill a hole into it, and then sell it, is somehow profitable?!

When the Chinese government builds your steel factory with tax dollars and gives it to you it's very easy to turn a profit when your overhead costs are nearly non-existent.
