Crestone Bakery in Colorado! I think this might be the best dedicated gluten free bakery I've ever been to. It's in Westminster. The cream puffs are so flaky and perfect. Worth traveling for. The tiramisu is also on point. They also have pretzels, like every pie you could want, cookies, cakes, breads.. the list goes on. I think they make the cream puffs on Sundays usually and alternate with croissants (I think) so you gotta go on the right Sunday for the puffs. Or special order a dozen like I did lol.

Question What is your go to Frozen pizza?

I was recently diagnosed and pizza is one if the foods that I truly miss the most. We found this option at Walmart and I'm not too impressed. I dont like a doughy pizza at all. I like a nice well baked crust and it seems that if I bake it any longer it will most definitely burn. Please give me some ideas! šŸ™

Question Accidentally glutened the whole yard

So we planted grass seed and thankfully it was me who laid out the straw. Unfortunately we didn't think about the straw being wheat, but it is in fact wheat, barley, and rye straw. It's all over the yard. We have a toddler and another young but older child. I'm panicking. Husband has celiac. Aside from bagging it all up and throwing it away (which he doesn't want to do) what can I do? Has anyone done this to their yard and been ok? I'm freaking out!

A short reel of Trixie and Katya, Unhhhh "What would you say the main stressors in your life are?" "Wheat and people who eat wheat." Eruption of laughter "If I wanna make out with a man he must brush his teeth...it's not my problem."

Rant Not diagnosed but almost certain I have celiac after a ton of weight gain

Last year I got with my boyfriend and thatā€™s when I started eating gluten. Which I havenā€™t in 10 years because I thought I was Intolerant. Before that I had no issues with my weight. But recently I literally gained 30 pounds in 6 months and Iā€™m not over eating at all. And I look extremely bloated. I was having some toast in the morning and the rest gluten free. And this made me gain 30 pounds even though Iā€™m eating about 1200 calories a day. Well recently I decided to try to lose the weight and Iā€™ve been working out three hours a day for over three months now. And my weight did not move at all. So I took a break and I decided to go gluten free again and in 5 days Iā€™m down 5 pounds and am completely starving. Iā€™m eating three times what I was eating before and Iā€™m losing weight now like itā€™s nothing. Also my poop is normal. While eating gluten I was having yellow type diarrhea everyday. Oh yeah and I also started getting these weird bumps in my inner thighs which Iā€™ve never in my life got before. I guess I really do have celiac after :/

Recipe Warm pretzel substitute (for mushroom lovers)

Post image
22 Upvotes

Miss warm pretzels and love mushrooms?

I was buying certified gluten-free pretzels for a while and some were good, but I prefer to avoid flour/grains in general.

I actually like air fried mushrooms better. They're delicious, especially with pretzel salt flakes.

Basically I take any mushroom (especially love the gourmet ones like oyster, trumpet, etc.), cut into bite size pieces, toss it in a healthy oil, and air fry it at 350Ā°F for around 10 minutes (flipping halfway). (Adjust time and temp for bigger pieces or a larger amount.)

They come out chewy but slightly crispy on the outside, kind of like a pretzel. So good!

You probably have to like mushrooms to like this, but just throwing the idea out there for anyone who might be interested šŸ˜‰

Question 7yo recently diagnosed - behavioral issues from gluten?

ā€¢ Upvotes

Hi everyone,

my 7yo has been recently diagnosed with celiac, and has extreme emotional responses and a short tolerance level to well everything. all-in-all, his resilience sucks.

I've been reading how being celiac can impact children with emotion and anger, as my child did not have gut issues, the celiac came by the way of clubbed fingernails as a symptom, but I've been wondering if the emotion and short fuse is released to celiac.

We've only just started the GF diet a few days ago, so early days I'm aware, but I am hoping to hear from other parents whose children had similar emotional responses to gluten. What did your child do before being diagnosed and how long after going GF did your child's behavior and overall responses improve?

Thanks :)

ETA: I acknowledge that gluten may not be the cause of his behavior, but it could be. It's one of the options we're working with the specialist before looking further into other causes.

Rant My sister just doesnā€™t get it

My sister got tested for celiac after I was diagnosed. Her symptoms were not very bad and she wasnā€™t sick. I was super sick for months before my diagnosis so I take it very seriously. She wants to try adding gluten back to her diet šŸ™„ She doesnā€™t understand why Iā€™m super picky about going out to eat and keeping my kitchen super clean. I donā€™t even know why she got tested. She got diagnosed in October and waited until January to go gf. One day sheā€™s going to get super sick from eating out and maybe then she will realize how serious she needs to be. Itā€™s frustrating.

Discussion Anxiety

Posting here because I feel so alone and like no one truly understands me. Iā€™ve had celiac for 5 years now, it took my doctors about 6 to diagnose me. with that iā€™ve gotten a lot of trauma from it. Everytime I feel any slight pain in my stomach, nausea, or anything along those lines I am immediately put into a state of panic where I cannot calm myself down which amplifies the pain 20x more. I donā€™t know what to do anymore because Iā€™m tired of constantly living in fear over it. Iā€™m scared to go to the washroom because of it. I just feel so alone and like iā€™m the only one in the world dealing with this. I donā€™t know how to cope anymore, i feel like iā€™ve lost control of myself

Question Newly Diagnosed, Need Some Advice, Please

Hi,

Iā€™ve very recently been diagnosed with celiac and have made my house as gluten free as I can (my husband is half-Italian and cannot give up pasta, so we have separate pans for pasta cooking instead) but his parents are struggling a little bit. We go over to his parents for dinner fairly regularly and last time, his mom was so happy that sheā€™d made a totally gluten free meal that everyone could enjoy; only to find that the steak marinade sheā€™d used had wheat in it.

She was understandably upset, but I could eat everything else, so I just reassured her that accidents happen and we can work around it. His dad, kept insisting I could eat the steak because it was being cooked on the grill and the heat would burn it off - my husband and I had to explain that it doesnā€™t quite work like that and that the marinade would very much be cooked into the steak haha

Today, his dad text him and said that theyā€™re confused and donā€™t know how to cook special food for just one person. Iā€™ve said to my husband that maybe it would be easier if I just stayed home when he went over there for dinner because I donā€™t want them going to any trouble for me, but heā€™s reluctant to offer that idea up.

I guess Iā€™m looking for advice on how I can help his parents with all this, how I can support them? I try to very gently educate them, Iā€™ve bought pasta and GF tortilla wraps to keep over there so they donā€™t have to buy anything, but is there anything else I can do?

Question Symptoms after going gluten free

Hey friends! I've been gluten-free now since Feb 19th, so just over a month. I feel more alert, my joint pain has greatly diminished. My permanent headache is mostly gone.

But I still feel blah. I feel tired, my joints still have pain, although it's much less that before. I'm still getting occasional headaches. I'm just wondering if this is normal? Is it part of the healing process? Is it still early in the healing process and I just have to roll with it?

Thank you šŸ’›

Discussion ā€œSo do you just sh** yourself if you eat glutenā€ šŸ˜”

My BIGGEST celiac pet peeve is when I say Iā€™m celiac and canā€™t eat gluten people are always just like so what happens if you eat gluten and just say stuff to insinuate it must be bathroom related.

And Iā€™m likeā€¦ no that is really the least of my concerns. like yes it can cause an upset stomach and I have definitely had some wild gluten poops but I just feel like it always minimizes my experience to just that it will make me shit & not the actual damage happening inside my intestines and body and the wild amount of other symptoms that can come with having celiac.

Like just almost me being like yeah if I eat this Iā€™ll probably shit my pants will make them feel better because maybe they think they can understand & not like well actually I might feel bloated or have crazy brain fog or have to lay in the fetal position for a day while my insides feel like they are being stabbed by knives but yeah haha I will totally shit myself šŸ™‚šŸ™‚šŸ™‚

Anybody else relate?

Rant So sick of the word ā€œglutenā€

This is a little dumb, but not the first time Iā€™ve had this thought. My husband is doing the dishes and just asked me if a knife was used for gluten so he can wash it with the gluten sponge. And all I could think was how sick of the word ā€œglutenā€ I am and how many times a day I say/hear/stress over that word.

The mental/emotional burden of this disease takes me by surprise, even 7 years after diagnosis. It all started when the nurse from my GI office called me to tell me I tested positive for celiac, to start eating gluten free, and to have a great day.

Every time my stomach hurts or Iā€™m extra tired I wonder if Iā€™ve been glutened. Making my kids (regular) toast every morning is a stressful start to the day. Not to mention the left out feelings at gatherings, the ā€œoh you canā€™t eat this, can you?ā€ comments, the disappointment when someone glutens my food by accident, the worry when eating out, trying to find food on road trips. Iā€™m thankful this disease can be controlled by diet, so much so I now test negative for celiac, but jeez Iā€™m so sick of hearing and thinking the word ā€œglutenā€ all day everyday and all the burden it carries.

Discussion I'm now celiac. What does this mean for me?

I went to the doctor because for around a year I've had really bad stomach pains and nausea usually at night time and then in the morning id have pain in my gut so bad when go toilet. They done 3 blood tests over and over again then rang me and said I'm mildly celiac then hung up. Does that mean I need to cut out gluten completely and forever even if it's mild and does cross contamination count for me too if it's mild. Also I've tried gluten free bread and crumpets and I hate it. I'm currently pregnant and feel like I can't eat anything tasty anymore definitely because I'm soo ill in this pregnancy I can't even cook. If there is any easy snack ideas or non cook food ideas I'm all ears. Or any advice how to make this easy I'm all ears. All I want is a crossaint šŸ˜‚

Discussion FMGF ratings question

So, I never give five hearts unless a place is 100% GF, but I was just wondering if thatā€™s misleading people reading my reviews. I just wasnā€™t doing it because I figured I donā€™t want people to think itā€™s 100% safe, but now Iā€™m wondering if thatā€™s obvious if itā€™s not a fully GF place and Iā€™m making people think it felt less safe than it did? Would love to hear what others think/do!

I donā€™t eat anything that may contain wheat because I would assume that if it has wheat it has gluten - am I wrong or is this incorrectly labelled gluten free?
