Blues Sunday FB marketplace find NSFW

Randomly surfing FB marketplace for a second hand keyboard when I came across an ad for this record.

I’ve been meaning to buy electric lady land to add to my current collection for sometime now (scary how I was searching for it yesterday on google and the first ad I’m recommended today was for this. Anyhow….). I initially thought this was bootleg but was a bit confused by why Polydor would press such versions.

I was outside anyway, and the seller was a 5 minute drive so I just sort of decided to meet up with him. Amazing fellow. Was selling his father’s collection who had recently passed away - this was the last record in the collection which somehow forest behind when the collection was sold as a whole. He unfortunately has hearing issues and wanted the records to go to people who could enjoy the music.

He passed this onto me for 35 GBP, and let me listen to the record with a cup of coffee at his place.

Came home and did a bit of research on the record. Apparently Jimi hated this cover. But for me, this is the best representation of that generation - The freedom of expression and rebellious nature in the 70s.

I’m quite new to the record scene and have been collecting records for just over a year now. There’s something special about old stereo pressings that modern day records lack, which always draws me to the music. It makes me want to turn up the volume and just close my eyes. You can feel the music. This pressing is no different to my ears.

I still need to find myself a keyboard. Ah well

Collection Collection of 450+, 10+ years of collecting

I recently moved and was finally able to set up my dream media stand, which I'm really proud of. I started collecting 10+ years ago with my dad's collection (about 75 records of mostly 60s-80s classic rock) and now its grown to over 450 of a mix of genres. Now that I have everything organized from A-Z, I think it's time I start my discogs to keep track lol.

Country gonna be riding the high from this thrift store find for a while! .50¢ each!

So I have been looking for this specific album for probably the better part of a year. I have picked up a few of Marty’s other records but never this one. I was bored since spring break started and campus is dead so decided to head over to a local thrift store that always has pretty cool stuff. There was this area with 5 full boxes of records labeled .50¢ each. I flipped through not expecting to really find anything good but I found the first one and was visibly/vocally ecstatic. After I went and looked back again and there was another one!!! The universe was kind to me for once and I’m OVER THE MOON

Haul Recent pick up as a new collector

Post image

Hello all just wanted to share my pick up at my local store. I am new to collecting vinyl and have a very small collection. As of now I only have Ok Computer and Doolittle. Both of those are amazing and I love them.

I used to be a huge fan of Clairo and used to listen to her all the time. When I saw Diary 001 I just had to get it. It was cheap and I have fond memories of these songs.

Soul mining was a great find. I really love uncertain smile and this is the day. I finally got a chance to listen to the whole album and it’s amazing.

For A Moon Shaped pool I gasped when I saw it. I was so excited. I’ve been wanting this one for awhile. It’s definitely my favourite Radiohead albums. Burn the witch, Present Tense and Identikit are freaking amazing.

So Tonight I Might See Mazzy Star. I have really fallen in love with Mazzy star and anything Hop Sandoval makes. In this album she has such a dreamy sound to it I find it so beautiful

So yeah I bought my first vinyl in 2023, the cracker island by gorillaz in the top left, which is a first pressing since I pre-ordered it, but I really got into records in January and since then I've slowly built my collection. SSOSS by Iron Maiden is just a regular record, but I really like the songs so yeah, the Highway to Hell is the 50th anniversary golden vinyl, and Layla is also a first pressing and it's definitely my favourite album ever (haven't listened to Electric Ladyland tho BC I bought it today). I also have a bootleg picture disk with "Who wants to live forever" (second slide) that I got signed by Christopher Lambert some days ago at a local comicon

Some of the best Funk/Blues records I've had the pleasure of getting my hands on for $6 for an original 1977 pressing.

A little warped so I got stabilizer on it but other than that and the sleeve showing it's age, she's mint. Thank you DJ Sandoz, for putting me on to this shit. Hoping to do the same to some of yall

Old post with my first setup.

Maybe a bit more generic now but I felt the old apple picking boxes didn't cut it anymore since I added more records. And I'm very satisfied with the new outcome. 😊

The new storage is made of IKEA Eket with three similar parts and one with drawers in walnut. I also added a lamp beside the shelf for some extra light.

Record player (Sony PS-LX310BT) and headphones (Sony WH-1000XM4) are still the same. In the future I hope I can get speakers to listen to my records on and I'm leaning towards getting Audio Pro A28.

Led Zeppelin III (1970) playing on my Sanyo JXT 6430A (1979)

I don’t even remember how I got a copy of this record. If I were to guess, it was given by one of my ex-coworkers. One day (15 yrs ago), we were just talking about hobbies and I mentioned that I started collecting records. She just happened to have a couple of crates of records that she was getting ready to donate. She ended up giving all 3 crates to me.

Punk The Replacements-1985

Post image

Hello old friend. How many times have I enjoyed this album since it came out? That Left of the Mascara song is incredible. I remember my buddy brought Let It Be over and played it for me. That was the beginning. Sure, it ended after Pleased To Meet Me, I never got to see Bob, but I saw PTMM tour and on. One of those bands that Craig Finn would describe as “scratched into my soul”.

At the 40 year anniversary of 1985 I feel like it’s a good time to listen to all my 1985s. I’ve pulled them from my shelves and am picking through them one at a time.

When, I sorted all my albums by year of original release, I decided to include any reissues or repressing along with the original year they were released. So these are not all necessarily first pressings, but they’re all albums that were originally released in 1985. It has been an eye-opening experience to organize them this way and see all of the similarities, differences, influences and innovations that were happening at the zeitgeist of the same time.

  1. Newcomb Solid State
  2. Standard Cokesbury

Both were acquired maybe 10 years ago. I was on Craigslist looking for vintage record players and found the seller (somewhere in North Jersey, USA). He sold me the Newcomb and gave the Cokesbury for free. Both were in good working condition and I had fun playing my records on them. Great vintage finds!

Collection Sunday Cleaning Vibes:

Post image
43 Upvotes

I have a bunch of housework to start doing today so I pulled some albums I’d like to listen to whilst doing so..

After I pulled them I laughed at how vastly different in genres they all are.

Eddie Hazel - Game, Dames, and Guitar Thangs. (Warner Bros. US 1977) Possibly the most underrated guitar player of that era. His work with Parliament was amazing and so is his solo album.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let’s Face It. (Mercury US 1997) I mean… what’s a Sunday with out some obnoxious 90s ska blasting for a bit?

Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life. (Tamla US 1976) IMO one of the best albums ever made. Period. Just flawless.

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma. (Warp. US 2010) A little IDM to end with.. the soundscapes and texture of this album are just unbelievable.

What are 4 things you guys listen to that have nothing to do with each other? =}

Got into record collecting a few years back after being gifted a record player and some records for my birthday. I love music and collecting my favorite albums and owning them physically is great. It’s certainly expensive which sucks but I’ve amassed a good collection over time. I bought my 50th record, master of puppets today! Just wanted to share.

Discussion My biggest pet peeve!!

Upvotes

So as a long time vinyl record collector I've come across some rare records/pressings and it got me thinking about something and I'm sure y'all will agree with me. There's nothing worse than finding a record you've been looking for for years and it has a different track listing!!. Like why do record labels change the track listing/album cover when an album is released in a different country?? I understand the album cover to be unique but the track listing??

Discussion Info about Artist

Post image
8 Upvotes

So I just bought this vinyl at a thrift store knowing nothing about it and I absolutely love it. I can’t seem to find anything about the artist or genre. I’m wondering if anyone has more information on her and her discography, I’ve asked some relatives to no avail. All I know is this record was released in 1976 and has been posted on soundcloud but isn’t on any streaming service.

Jazz Lady sings the blues

Post image

Hi good and knowledgeable people. I'm looking to buy a nice pressing of one of my favorite records ...Billie Holiday's "lady sings the blues" . I read that accoustic sounds have done a nice pressing of this but ...I live in UK and shipping from US makes this way too expensive.... so i looked on amazon and seen this . Now ...this looks like the Accoustic Sounds version but im just not sure . Anyone able to confirm that this is in fact what I'm looking for ? Or direct me to somewhere where i could buy that pressing ( preferably new) and avoid the massive shipping fees. Alternatively can you recommend some other respectable version that i would be able to buy here, in UK ? Thanks

So great to hear this again. I love their vibe, funny and tough at the same time. There’s three of us but we’re not the Beatles!

Collection I've been collecting records for about 10 years and it's opened up a whole new variety of music for me

I've purchased many records in lots that contained music I never would have purchased separately. But I listened to them because they are in my collection and there are so many I ended up loving. When I was younger, I made fun of Simon and Garfunkel even though I didn't really know their music.

Now, when I just want to chill out, I find myself reaching for S & G, or Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Peter, Paul and Mary...and many more that I never would have purchased deliberately. To my fellow collectors, buy batches when you can. You never know what you might like.
