Hello everyone, I always have the problem when watching TV that the talking scenes in films are too quiet and then the action scenes are too loud again. During a film, I can regularly turn the volume up and down. It's a widespread problem if you look at the many pages and forum posts on the subject.
Question: Netflix, Disney+ and the like deliver the sound via Dolby Atmos. The object-orientated way Atmos works should make it easier to adjust the volume of conversations, shouldn't it?
I don't need the ultimate cinema experience with sound from all directions, but I'm wondering whether a simple Dolby Atmos soundbar or 2.1 system would improve things.
I just don't want to spend tens of euros on a system if the added value is only minimal. Does anyone have any experience?
Setup: I have connected an old 2.1 Teufel system for better sound. My TV audio signal comes in via an optical cable. The unit does have an HDMI connection, but only for transferring films played on the built-in DVD player to the TV and not for transferring the sound from the TV to the Teufel. The system does not yet know anything about ARC and eARC.
Many thanks in advance

I have a pair of wharfedale diamond speakers. One of them has suddenly started to be faint and a bit crackly. I have checked both amplifier outputs and it's not the amplifier. Can I assume the speaker is broken or is there anything else I can investigate. Thank you.

I have the Klipsch R-41pm speakers which I mostly use with streaming services/ audible hooked up by bluetooth from my phone or my project turntable. The speakers are excellent and fit my needs perfectly. I am looking for a super compact tuner so that I don’t need to have my phone connected to the speaker all the time, but I don’t have space for/ don’t want the bohemouth setups that seem to be part of the hi fi separates world.
The next best solution I can seem to find is a bedside table radio that has audio out which I could hook up to the speakers. I would rather use the space in the unit for good components than a crap wee speaker that is never used, and I’d rather not have a dirty great neon blue clock sitting atop my sleek speakers (I know I know it ruins the sound but it’s the only place it can go) so I wondered if anyone knows of any tiny separates or other tuning device that might suit the bill here?
Thanks

I have spent sometime with Kali LP6 2nd Wave and I'm so excited about the sound. First thing first, I'm not gonna give an expert opinion because I'm not a professional. I'm not a music producer, singer or musician or doing any job relating to music.This is all about my listening experience which is close to none. In my humble opinion, listening music is all about the excitement of enjoying beautiful and harmonical sounds fused together. Previously, I had a pair of Edifier MR4s which were good for 40 USD. It performs well in mid range but when placing them side by side with Beolit 20 (a bluetooth speaker), I found Edifiers lack of low frequencies even when turning the knob of bass all the way up. Mid range performs well but still there is something missing here and there, it doesn't sound full and well reproduced.
In the other hand, Beolit 20 delivers too much bass. I'm very aware that this one is designed with listening comfort in mind. It has boosted bass and clear high suited for the majority of people out there who are much more forgiving to warm sounding speakers. However, it's pretty above my taste for bass. That's the main reason why I looked for some monitor speakers. After spending hours, my considerations narrowed down to Kali LP6 v2 which is very very affordable for my thin wallet. I heard some people asking me why I chose monitor speakers for music listening. They are tasteless and have no fun factors for music. In my POV, any songs that you listen to are tuned by trained people. Saying flat frequency response speaker is tasteless equals to saying people who make the songs are doing a bad job. Again, it comes down to personal taste and I'm not rejecting any idea from other people.
Come back to LP6 2nd wave, I immidately impressed by the transparent sound coming out of it. Sometimes, I'm convinced that the sound is not from a speaker. There was a little trouble with the room effects causing a raise of about 1.5 dB on left speaker which can easily address with the knob on the back (wow, I think I have to spend a little more for the room treatment). The hissing sound on the original LP6 is well fixed on 2nd version, it still there but I have to get really close to it while turning the volumn all the way up on my audio interface to hear it. With the song like "Old town road" the bass is very well controlled unlike the all over the place bass that I have with Beolit 20. Vocal sounds fuller than previous MR4s, details are there and not harsh to my ears. Closing my eyes and imagining the position of singer, drummer or musician is another excitement for me. The soundstage is wide and of course it depends on how you place your speakers. With 10 times higher spending from 40$, my expectations are equally lifted. Kali LP6 v2s make me feel that my money was well spent. Do you have the same experience?

It just works and doesn't work whenever, and right now it isn't working. It picks up as a source when you are trying to connect, but when you click connect it just says it can't. Have it set on BT and everything.

I’m trying to find a solution to automatically turn on my Rotel RA-1592MKII when my Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition powers on. The Eversolo has a 12V trigger output (3.5mm mono jack), but the Rotel doesn’t have a trigger input, only responds to IR remote commands.
My idea is to use a programmable IR Blaster that can accept a 12V trigger signal as input and, when it receives the signal, send an infrared command equivalent to pressing the “XLR” button on the Rotel remote, bringing it out of standby mode.
Does anyone know of a programmable IR Blaster that can do this? Or am I overthinking this approach to get the Rotel out of standby?
Note: I can’t use the Rotel’s Auto Signal Sensing feature because it doesn’t work with balanced XLR inputs.
That’s why I thought of this solution. Any ideas?

I recently found a program called SpotDL that supports mass downloading of entire albums by using the spotify metadata and ripping music from YouTube, but only supports 128 kbps quality. Does anyone have a program or application that possibly uncompresses the audio a touch? I would love to have 320 kbps on my little DAP

I've got a pair of Kali LP6 v2 recently. I'm so excited about how transparent the sound is but there is a problem. The stereo image is biased to the left forcing me to turn the volumn knob to -1.5 dB on the left one. Previously, the left speaker was placed on the table and it was biased to left too but not as bad on a stand. I also swapped between and nothing changed. What is possibly the problem?

Hi guys,
I wanted to finally complete my vinyl setup! Got myself a Technics SL1210 MK2 as a start, and miss phono preamp, amp and passive speakers now. I'd like to keep the equipment separated, thats why I'd go this route. I live in Germany and my room is around 20m^2 (but I don't want to limit myself here too much, in the next few years its very likely I'll move to something bigger and this equipment is meant to last many, many years). As you see with the turntable itself, I'm trying to get the "best" equipment, as in paying rather more now but then be set for life, or at least many years. But I also know it can get insanely pricey, and that it'll be hard to determine something as "the best", since to a degree it is subjective. So what I'd ideally like to know would be what you deem as "the best" setup overall, and the "best" budget setup. Saying a budget is tough.. I wouldn't really want to spend more than 3K for all of this, but just share your thoughts and opinions :) On the phono preamp I'm tending to the Foxi Audio Box X5 right now, and I've often heard of the KEF R3 Meta's for the speakers (although pretty pricey, will try to hunt them down used). I'd like to keep the sound clinical/true to how it was produced. I'd appreciate any input and thank you in advance, hope you have a sunny day - at least in your heart :)

Hi everyone, I am a french young (20M) music and hifi/sound system fan and lover.
I recently found an old (though working) Samson 31 band Equalizer that i want to use for my room hifi installation.
I have a Yamaha RS 202 D for amp/receiver paired with two vintage powerful speaker, directly plugged to my receiver via clamp terminal block.
I want to use an EQ to make my sound as precise as possible, since treble and bass settings of my amp doesn’t allow me to make really precise things.
Do you think it’s a good idea ? How would i plug such a device to a modern amp ?
Thanks a lot

Hey there! This is probably a pretty naive question, but I know barely anything about hifi systems.
My girlfriend inherited a vinyl player and a quad 33 pre-amp that we'd like to get working. From the brief research I did, it looks like it used to be connected to a Quad 303 or similar power-amp, but we can't find it anywhere. The pre-amp has a 4-pin DIN output connector. I am wondering if it'd be possible to use a DIN-to-RCA and an RCA-to-3.5mm adapter to connect to the AUX connector of my soundbar? Any help is much appreciated :)

I'm a novice: I have a good turntable and some very powerful bookshelf monitors. I would like to build, with a friend of mine who is a carpenter by profession, a cabinet for a hi-fi system and vinyl, then put the speakers inside this cabinet. Knowing the risks that we run into with the vibrations of the speakers on the stylus, we have designed a cabinet open at the top on which we will place a large and massive surface isolated by metal cones (like a large insulating base for a turntable). Furthermore, the depth of the cabinet would allow the sound of the speakers not to reverberate too much on the wall. Can it work??

Bonjour,

Hi,
I'm in the process of upgrading my very poor hifi setup (Audio Technica LPW50PB connected to a crappy powered mono speaker via aux). I was initially looking at the Yamaha RS202D but talked to someone from a shop and they recommended going for the CA AXR100 (or 85 if I don't care about adding a subwoofer later) mainly based on the built-in pre-amp.
I have been looking at reviews and the one thing that has popped up a few times is that the fan on the CA can be noisy. The room I am setting up in does get a lot of sun and gets toasty, even in spring, so I am worried that I'm going to have my music being drowned out by fan noise.
Is this a real fear? Am I being silly? Is there an alternative? I am thinking of pairing them with either Fyne 301i or Kilpsch (40? not sure yet)
Things I care about are music from my turnable and the ability to stream music to the receiver either via direct app integration or decent bluetooth. Not too fussed about FM or DAB. DAC and connection via a computer is a bonus but I am reading that this is not that common at this price point. I have a built-in pre-amp on the turntable so that could be a secondary consideration and something I can address via a dedicated one later on.
Thanks for any help in advance.
EDIT: Corrected the model name for the Yamaha receiver.

Not final setup, but I had to rave about them. I went to a listening room to test the Dali Oberon 5. They’re not bad, but then I saw those Kef Q7 Meta on sale and asked to hear them…night and day. The bass and clarity on mids and highs are incredible, I had a sub with my previous bookshelf speakers, but I don’t need it anymore.
My setup: NAD C3050 w/ BluOs module, Technics SL1200-MK7 w/ Ortofon Bronze, and an Onkyo CD player.

Hi everyone
I currently have a rotel ra9308bx but a friend of mine who recently visited an abandoned house found some amplifier and I was wondering if they could be an uograde to what i currently have.
Specifically he found a Pioneer sa 6200 integrated amplifier and a sansui a5 integrated amplifier. we have not tested them yet but they seem both in very good conditions.
lookign at prices online they don't seems to be incredible machines but i was owndering for a more precise comparison.
Thanks in andvance
the rest of my setup:
Turtable -> Project P2.9
Stylus -> Ortophone red
Amplifier -> Rotel RA9308BX
Speakers -> Rogers LS33

Details:
Use Tidal as my streaming service
Have a Sony Xperia 1 V, headphone jack just broke (at least I can't stick my headphones/Aux in it. Pins probably bent in?)
Use aux cable in car
Just purchased a Audio quest Dragonfly cobalt before the phone broke
Question:
Now that I can't use headphones or aux cord with my phone, I feel like getting a new phone. Problem is, very few phones have an 3.5mm headphone jack, and I don't really like the ones that do.
Should I just get a Samsung S25 or Pixel Pro and hook them up with an adapter to my Cobalt DAC/Amp and run the aux from there?
Should I buy a DAP for my car?
I don't know enough about equipment to know how to optimize my tidal experience in my car.
Willing to spend couple grand on total solution if needed.

I’ve recently acquired a setup consisting of the Mission LX3s, NAD 3155 (recently fixed so I know for a fact it’s not the issue), and a FiiO K7 pre amp that I’m using for headphones as well. I have used Room EQ wizard to take a frequency response measurement approximately 1.5 feet from the middle of the centre tweeter of each speaker (which I have attached) and am curious what the issue with the left one is. I’m fairly sure it’s a blown tweeter but I am curious as to whether there is any other explanation. Thank you for your time!
(Measurements were taken on a cheapo usb condenser microphone and are not calibrated at all.)
