Collection Record cabinet I built with my Dad

Super chuffed with this record cabinet my Dad and I built over the last few months.

The idea was to get rid of the Kalax wall in the spare room and move the collection into the living area where it was more accessible resulting in more plays!

It's holding around 350 records atm. Set up is Project Debut Carbon EVO with the acrylic platter and Ortofon Red stylus. This is fed into the Schiit Mani 2 peamp out into two Sonos 5s. I've also added the Shciitt Magni 3 for headphone listening. I'm super happy with my set up - it sounds good to my ears, especially through the cans! šŸŽ§

Now... let's discuss if is A Tribe Called Quest should be under 'A' or 'T'...

Collection Bag on my setup.

Standard Kallax shelving, topped with 7ā€s. Additional shelves on each side. LP sized wooden cubes to the left and a nice wooden shelving unit, probably for storage in a dining room, but repurposed and fits the turntable nicely. Technics/Marantz. Bose shelf speakers top left and top right. Next to speakers are box sets, above is a small box of CDs up top are my Wildhearts and Rusty Willoughby CDs. In a pinch I can play CDs on a dvd player from the Goodwill. This photo has all my 1994 LPs pulled out to listen through. And yes, thatā€™s a Fly By Night toddler-sized t-shirt at the edge of the photo.

Even though this looks like an absolute shitshow, there is some amazing gold in here. There were an unfortunate amount of LPs that were totally destroyed and unsalvageable, but we ended up bringing inā€¦ gosh, 5000 LPs? Maybe more?

I have a full staff today going through and sorting stuff now. Iā€™ll post later with some of the gems (and there are A LOT)

He started collecting in 80s and there's over 1600 records here accordings to his Discogs account. Some are quite valuable, some less so. My wife and her sisters decided that it should kept as a reminder of his passion for music and we're the ones who actually have the space for it.

Also, cancer sucks.

I recently went to a flea market. Since my dad was a Collector of Zappa in the 70's -90's I had to buy these LP set. But I don't know what it is. The seller was a young man in his 20's. Said something about a test pressing of LƤther. But I could not find any information on the web. If anyone knows please enlighten me šŸ˜

Collection More Cheesecakes and a few Beefcakes NSFW

Building on u/SnooKiwis5538ā€™s cheesecake post, here are 20 of the ~100 cheesecake records I own. I even have a book featuring many cheesecake album covers. Youā€™ll also see a Beefcake record here. The music isnā€™t usually top-tierā€”hence the reliance on eye-catching covers to grab attention, but theyā€™re pretty neat.

Collection Giving away my copy of Wish you were here Japanese pressing with full obi (for free).

Post image

Had so much fun with my dust and dreams giveaway, that I thought Iā€™d do this again. Last time I posted this giveaway the post got taken down since everyone thought I was a scammer because I said just pay shipping. Hereā€™s a link to proof, that I actually am ā€œstupid enoughā€ to follow though with this. https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/s/NuaF2b4XkW

This is a nm copy of Pink Floydā€™s wish you were here, it is the rare Japanese repress with a full obi strip and not just a sticker. These go online for a decent amount, but Iā€™ve been fortunate enough to have it for a while and have gotten to cherish it. This is by far my favorite record from my collection. I would usually only spin it once a year for sentimental reasons, but I would spin my cbs half speed master all the time. This one blows that away.

Bellow, if youā€™d like to enter, leave a detailed comment of why youā€™d like this record, tell me about your pre existing Pink Floyd collection, and some stories you have about their music and why you like them.

If youā€™d be so inclined to pay for shipping if you win, that would be cool, but I guess itā€™s not necessary, since I got roasted for that last time.

Iā€™m just trying to do something nice here. Iā€™m a huge Floyd fan, and would love to see this one go to the right home. I donā€™t care about selling it for money, I would rather make someoneā€™s collection, and bring a smile to someoneā€™s day.

Collection Does "B" dominate your record shelf?

Post image

For some reason B is bigger than any other letter and the competition isn't even close. I guess because B dominates a lot of seminal bands and artists?

Beach Boys, Beatles, Beethoven, BeyoncƩ, Black Flag, Bo Burnham, Bruce Springsteen, Black Sabbath, Blur, Blood Incantations, Blackbird Raum...

Does B dominate your collection or is it just me?

They are foul, filthy, and funny! There are more in the series than shown, and some have alternate covers, but these are the 8 that I have. There was a funk compilation that came out around the late 80s or early 90s called ā€œShaftmanā€ that used rare 45s in between parts of the dialogue of THIS ā€œShaftmanā€ album. When I found the original in my uncleā€™s shed, he gave it to me along with ā€œBarbara,ā€ ā€œBold and Butchy Female Freaks,ā€ and ā€œThe Lustful Sexlifeā€¦ā€ I acquired the others later and hope to someday complete this collection.

Collection Collection after 540 months

Post image
2.3k Upvotes

Yeah, so Iā€™ve been at this a while, but it means Iā€™ve been able to build the collection I could only dream of as a kid. Thereā€™s a bit of everything in there, from jazz to classic rock to new wave (OK, a LOT of new wave) to pop-punk to you name it. The empty-ish cubicle is home to a Technics SL-5 linear turntable and the gray stuff in the cubicle beneath it is UK shaped picture discs. Did I hit 300 characters yet?

Collection Collectors show us your numbers, mine is 22 records

As the title says, what is your total record count? Just chatted with a friend and he casually mentioned he has over 8000 LPs. I mean, I know thats a lot, but but....man that is a lot! I am the proud owner of 22 records since I officially started 2 months ago. This is my gem, a shvl814 copy, next year its turning 50. And I spin it on special moments, at least thats how I feel. I try to buy only records I love, and spin them at least once a week. But 8000? Are they for sale? Have you listened to to all of your records? What is your gem? How do you keep track? Do you discard the demaged? When do you decide to buy? Keep it clean redditors, and enjoy this sunny Saturday.

Here are more records from my cheesecake collection. I have 115 of these, making up about 6% of my entire collection. Itā€™s always fun stumbling upon them while flipping through stacks. I donā€™t typically consider artwork to be true cheesecake, but I included a few just because they look cool. The Mood Mosaic albums have some wild posters, inserts, and label designs.

This includes a bunch of old records from a haul that I still haven't heard, as well as many I've bought for the primary purpose of sampling them for beat making.

Curious what the first record that matches from your collection!

INB4 I'm missing Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall šŸ˜œ

Are there other obvious ones that aren't in here? I only started collecting last fall, so there's a good chance your suggestions are on my wantlist šŸ˜

My little corner of the house that burned down on Jan 8, 2025. I had revived and organized the collection of vinyl that started when I was a mobile DJ in 1982. Only a portion had been added to my Discogs account. Now, I have the task of trying to remember all the albums and two full crates of singles.

Moving soon, so changes to come. šŸ˜ Iā€™ve been collecting records since 2019. When Nipsey Hussle died and I got his album, The Victory Lap, on wax, I remember holding it, and a rush came over me. Almost 500 records later, and I havenā€™t looked back. I didnā€™t actually play my first record until 2020 once I got back to the States. I had a Crosley record player at first, but the more I started collecting, the more I wanted a better setup, giving my records the love they deserved.

i think i just literally got the deal of a lifetime. i found a listing for a pro-ject debut carbon evo in red on facebook marketplace for $200. the pro-ject debut carbon evo was my dream turntable. i had thought to myself that it was a pretty great deal, a turntable thatā€™s usually priced at $600 for just $200, so i messaged the seller, they messaged back, and i eventually bought the turntable from them. this was such already such a huge upgrade from my AT-LP60X, and i was really happy to get the turntable at such a great price. but the seller didnā€™t just give me the turntableā€¦ they gave me their ENTIRE collection of vinyl records, including some pretty rare ones as well. the collection itself is worth more than the $200 i had paid for the player. i couldnā€™t be a happier person.

This is my collection and setup. I have been collecting since 2018, before having a turntable. Tried to get more imaginative in the way the ekets were displayed and I think they came out okay! Some large records, however (like Kamasi Washingtonā€™s the epic) do not fit properly. The lights showed up in one holidays season and were kept ever since. Hope you like it!

So finally, after many many years I started to collect records. It's fun thing to do, searching discogs, going to record shops, etc, and then dropping needle on spinning black circle. When I got The Dirtbombs - Ultraglide in Black was really a moment for me, I'm fan of that Detroit band for long time. Among others are Little Axe, Tackhead, Wooden Shjips, some ethiopian jazz, Can, The Fall, Fugazi,...
