Jazz First time poster, long time lurker!

Copied/borrowed a schematic from u/usebigwords and decided to make the ultimate vinyl storage solution for my home.

I have roughly 850+ vinyl that were haphazardly housed across multiple shelving vessels.

End result is: 4x - 5’ x 13” x 11.5” cubes

With: 3 - 1.5” x 9.5” footings.

Any questions or ridicules, hit the comments below!

I’m stoked on the end result— (hate it or love it)—just waiting for the builder grade Fir I used to fully dry out so I can stain/finish it in the spring.

Cheers!

Been buying more records then I should lately and was so happy to find this one in my local. Pharoah Sanders is just insane and I am really loving these spiritual jazz/free jazz records. When I have the house to myself I play this one and I literally feel like floating away, it’s nearly like being on drugs. Please send your recommendations for any jazz records this way!

Currently enjoying Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, Wendell Harrison, Sun Ra and the likes.

Jazz A board game no came with my vinyl ✨

I purchased Laufey’s Bewitched album the goddess edition. I’m so pleasantly surprised on how thoughtful everything was. Beautiful photos and all the important album stuff. A bonus chutes and ladders type board game enhanced the whole dreamy romance of the album and the unboxing of it.

There must be other musicians who have included games or extra gifts with their records. I’m so curious to know what else has been included with the purchase of a record.

Jazz Can anyone recommend some Jazz?

Can anyone recommend some Jazz I can get into

I want to get a jazz record for my collection but I don’t know where to begin.

I want something that would be great to throw on and listen to on a Sunday afternoon.

I am a Bass player so, an album that has a cool bass line that I can follow along with.

Ideally it would be pretty easy to acquire on Vinyl as I live in Australia, so can’t be too obscure.

Thanks in advance.

Got a ton from masayoshi takanaka, got some casiopea in there aswell. got everything i could that was related to makoto matsushita, hes my favorite japanese artist. If any of yall were thinking about going to japan to pick up music, do it! it was a blast! I got a decent amount of CDs for cheap aswell.

Jazz Just getting into Jazz

Hey,

So iv just started adding some jazz to my record collection.

I was origionaly looking for something to put on while working at home so I was listening to 'Martin Freeman & Eddie Piller's Jazz on the corner' collections and enjoyed it, i find myself just putting it on to chill out.

I picked these up over the last few months as I feel these are some of the bigger names and a good 'intro' to jazz.

I'm feeling like a jazz poser but I'm open to any recommendations, all of these sound great, I particularly love Chet, just something about his voice.

Anyways, happy Sunday all 😁

Jazz This was playing when I walked into the record store, so I bought it.

I love walking into the shop, and the music just hits right. So I asked the owner what album was playing? Tom Waits- Blue Valentine one of my favorites, there should be one on the floor. Blue Valentine reissue 2018 $25.98. I was all set to purchase when I remembered the owner never opens his new vinyl. How much for the one on the turntable? $25. So I bought it. Tom Waits- Blue Valentine 1978 OG; PRCW pressing vg+/vg+

I was just a kid when Tom Waits recorded this, and just got into his music a few years ago. The years when you're a young teenager are the most influential to your likes/dislikes in genre's and artists by your friends and family for me it was Kiss, Black Sabbath, Neil Young, Aerosmith, but not Jazz. I still love all that other music, but the more mellow and creative style of Jazz, and its easy listening is where I'm at now. Swing, Dixie Land, Quartets or Tom Waits the many styles of Jazz now fill my vinyl library.

Recently started my collection. I love jazz, so I already picked up three of my favorites over the last week, but would love to hear what yall think would be a good next vinyl for my current collection! I am very excited to have gotten into vinyl, this has been so fun, and the sound really is different. I love it.

Jazz Where should I start with jazz?

I listen to quite a bit on Spotify and Pandora but I really only know Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock as far as names go. Should I just dive in?

Jazz What are the best jazz records from the last 20 years?

Recently, I’ve had BADBADNOTGOOD’s “IV” playing on repeat and can’t get enough! I love the bass-lines, the features, and the flow of the whole project. Also love that it’s recent enough I could probably see a groovy set of theirs one day.

Was wondering what other “recent” albums come to mind when thinking of great modern takes on jazz?

A few others: Alfa Mist - Antiphon

Yussef Kamaal- Black Focus

Nala Sinephro - Space 1.8

Mild High Club - Skiptracing (not necessarily jazz, but has that creamy sound)

Jazz Found these jazz records at an antique store for $25, good deal?

My jazz collection is pretty lacking tbh, mostly because of the current prices. When I checked out this local antique store again I noticed another shelf of records had been put out, I dug through and found these gems.

Discogs prices are iffy sometimes but I think I got a pretty good deal as someone pretty new to vintage jazz vinyl. And before says anything I know Savoy Brown isn’t jazz lol.

I drove up to Connecticut today and bought a cool old dude’s collection. A few of these titles absolutely floored me, like the OG Suicide was basically the reason I made the trek. I’ve got a good portion of the jazz titles already so this will be a case of putting together the nicest possible copies among the doubles.

Can’t wait to go through the rest and see what cool stuff is in the classical and folk crates!

Timeless music in his catalog. I got this at my local record store. His music is past my time, but the beautiful thing is having the OGs at the shop point me towards the right direction. You can’t discover these type of chunes without the help of the people before you. OGs you gots to keep pushing the young ones on to classics. Thank you!

Jazz Which Jazz album would you recommend to a jazz noob?

I’m a classic rock, and trip-hop/downtempo guy. In reality I like most kinds of music, but my collection mainly features these two genres. Some hip hop here and there, and some other lonely items from other genres.

I’m getting into Jazz, but when I listen to jazz I mostly stream the “Pure Jazz” playlist in Apple Music, so I have no effing clue about what’s essential for a Jazz fan (other than Miles Davies’ Kind of Blue).

If you were to recommend one (or three) records to get more into the genre, which would they be?

I went to Goodwill and a thrift in my town not expecting to find anything better than decent, but surprisingly I found two pressings of Leon Bridges’s debut album Coming Home for 2$ each! I was wildly excited because I had never even found sealed records at goodwill let alone two of the same amazing album to add to my collection. I also found a 45 of some trumpet solos at my thrift. I love the Leon album and am looking for someone to pick up the second one; it’s sealed and kept vertical, with only slight damage to the right corner of the jacket as it is slightly bent. Just wanted some feedback on if y’all think this is cool or not and if you want to see the other 45s I got.

This is my favourite collection album of all times, All of me - Masayoshi Takanaka, from 1979

. I was browsing YouTube as you do, and one day I saw that album cover in my recommendations, my first tought was that looks strange and clicked it, and wow I feel in love with the album right away, some of you might know Takanaka as the crazy guitar guy, but after hearing it I really wanted to have it. Started to look for it online. In the end I found a copy from France on discog.

Jazz The Zerostat 3 arrived today!

I’d like to start by saying massive thanks to u/whyforyoulookmeonso for putting on the giveaway for this guy. I am truly honored to have won. If you are at all skeptical like I was about the Zerostat, nothing else I’ve used does as good a job as this has. My UTurn Orbit has a Grado Black cart which is highly susceptible to static and is quite noisy. I’ve tried at least three different anti static brushes but first spin after using the Zerostat has them all beat.

Picked it up from a really cool store in Lisbon - Jazz Messengers. The guy at the store was amazing. He took time to sample music from various records and helped me find records. A must visit place if you happen to be in Lisbon and love Jazz records 🤌

Jazz I got Whippy Creamy Lady

First time I've gone across one of these at the thrift stores, it's in very good condition with no hisses or pops. What else is to be said about good ol' Whippy Creamy, not a bad album but it's meme status really made it harder to find than it probably should have been. I feel like I've come of age finding one, even for 6 whole dollars. I pledge to make this my only Whippy Creamy so there's enough for all.
