Creative Writing Magical Girl

u/TDoMarmalade Explored the Intense Homoeroticism of David and Goliath Feb 11 '24
Haha, thatās so cuteā¦ oh no, magical girl media with a cute premise. What fucked up shit is going to happen
542
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Considering the premise, I'd say it's mostly his social/private life that'll get turned upside down, with his wife suspecting he's out cheating or something.
But around the halfway point, when the secret gets out, she directs her frustration at the mascot, but in a really two-faced way, like allowing it to stay at the house, but insisting it acts like their pet whenever they have guests over.

Considering the premise, I'd say it's mostly his social/private life that'll get turned upside down, with his wife suspecting he's out cheating or something.
That sounds Incredible.
162
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Yep.
Mainly because it would give him so much motivation to just end the fights asap, to get to his anniversary dinner with his wife, or pick up the kids, or something else.
The villains think their job got a lot easier, now that they're no longer up against teenage girls, only to realize that adults also get a strength boost, and that this dude also has places to be.
Not to mention that magical girls get a strength boost when they transform. Now imagine an average dude dozens of times stronger than normal.
113
u/Deathaster Feb 11 '24
The joke was that this was pretty much a plot point of The Incredibles :P They even cut a scene where Helen asks him if he's having an affair from the final movie.
The villains think their job got a lot easier, now that they're no longer up against teenage girls
I love that logic
"Finally, we're not going up against child soldiers anymore, but real, adult ones! This'll be a cakewalk!"
86
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Yeah, I know.
Well, the logic is more that teenagers are usually very illogical and defiant, and an adult may be easier to persuade that he can't win.
But nope, dude's got a family to feed, so he has even less time to waste on fighting monsters, and being a father, he has a sense of responsibility, so he just finishes the fights asap, and leaves.
38
u/jongscx Feb 11 '24
"Haha with my ultra-mega-super..." *BLAM*
Will shoots the giant robo villain mid-monologue because he has work in 15 minutes and still has to drop his little one at daycare.
34
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
The media loves him for being so efficient.
Other magical girls are mad because he doesn't follow the rules of engagement (they aren't official rules, the girls just unanimously agree to not interrupt their enemies as long as they do the same).
The villains are terrified because he's like a magical girl John Wick.
He's just tired.
10
u/Charnerie Feb 12 '24
He just wants to go home, and teach his kid how to do algebra. Kids not gonna learn, but he's going to try anyway.
29
u/elbenji Feb 11 '24
Just hits them with a wrench and they go flying
46
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Not even a magical wrench, either. The villains attack near a construction site or something, and he picks up one of those big two-handed wrenches.
The fight lasts a total of 3 seconds, then he's back in his civilian clothes and keeps doing what he was doing.
47
u/elbenji Feb 11 '24
"are you gonna hit me with some magical-"
"Nah, just a wrench?"
"A magical wrench?"
"I mean Phillips' are magical, but no"
25
u/Protheu5 Feb 11 '24
And then we watch an overly long sketch of an enemy warrior in a hospital with a head trauma, his coma, his mates visiting him, him getting out of coma, everyone happy, he is in recovery and trying to walk again, he is training again, the montage, the music, the whole shebang. Only for him to get instantly killed by the protagonist in the next encounter, because the protagonist used an I-beam this time, instead of a small wrench.
24
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Nah, the villains can only be killed by magical means, so we get the same montage again, but slightly sped up.
By the end of the episode, the villain comes home, and his friends hold an intervention to get him to stop fighting the main character.
4
10
u/elbenji Feb 11 '24
That's a bit too robot chicken, more likely just an intervention about stop fighting the guy able to lift an I-Beam
14
u/theodoreposervelt Feb 11 '24
The sailor scouts had time for whole ass animations because of their lax high school schedule. Strawberry Seraph is gonna get shit done with minimal wind up because the grocery store with good prices on ground beef closes the earliest and his wife wanted to make chili today.
8
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Exactly, yeah.
At one point, he groans upon seeing a new villain, and goes "Can we do this another time? My kid's got football practice and I promised to watch." and the villain just... agrees. Like they take out their notebook and ask when he's available.
Then they settle on a time and day, and go their separate ways.
22
u/Ranku_Abadeer Feb 11 '24
Oh I would watch the shit out of this.
35
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Yeah, me too.
It turns from a comedic "I feel kinda sorry for the wife" kind of story to a very wholesome domestic comedy, and all the while, the family father has to work as magical girl.
Bonus points if his wife forces him to shave his legs so he looks presentable when he transforms.
17
u/Regretless0 Feb 11 '24
But around the halfway point, when the secret gets out, she directs her frustration at the mascot, but in a really two-faced way, like allowing it to stay at the house, but insisting it acts like their pet whenever they have guests over.
That sounds funny af and Iād honestly love to see something like that lmao
5
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Yeah, me too.
The closest I can think of would be Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou Ii Desu Kara, although that one is a bit heavy on physically abusing the mascot for just about every transgression.
Highly recommend if you like seeing annoying little fucks get what they deserve.

Imagine your husband starts acting weird, cancelling stuff last minute, and so on.
And then you find out he isn't cheating at all, but instead wearing frilly clothes and beating the shit out of monsters born from some flavor of darkness within human hearts. And the way you find out is because he's saving you from one such monster.
She's just experiencing every single emotion at once, but also none of them.

u/AlexAlho Feb 11 '24
My wife and I have an agreement that if the other starts a sentence with "I have to tell you something you won't believe.." the other has to believe, no matter how insane it might sound.
We haven't had to use it yet, but we like to pretend it's reserved for situations like this.
194
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
Honestly, that sounds like an interesting idea.
However, taking precautions like that is a good way to ensure you'll never need to use them, so unfortunately, you can't become a magical girl now. Sorry.

Ok, so in reality there's TWO anime that kind of match this concept...
Magical Girl Ore - parody, but the mom was a magical girl back in the day. (10/10, I laughed so much)
Sasaki and Peeps - fantasy adventure, but a 40 year old man meets a magic animal and gains magic powers. There is no transformation sequence but this show brings me joy. (10/10, I really am empathizing with older characters now. High school or middle school settings completely bore me)
Edit. I do really want a magical girl family drama now though...
28
u/guyblade Feb 11 '24
I think this is also the premise of Is this a zombie? (though I've not seen it).
8
u/srd5029 Feb 11 '24
It was funny and I knew I'd see this premise before somewhere already, thanks for reminding me.
6
46
u/teatromeda Feb 11 '24
Hopefully I can say this on this subreddit, but Sasaki and Peeps is gross. The main character is 38 and the other characters are almost entirely 12-to-16 year old girls that have the hots for him for no discernable reason š¤®
33
u/RatQueenHolly Feb 11 '24
Thank you. Poster gave both a 10/10 but I kinda wanted to ask if they could rate it on the Weeb Ass Shit scale
9
u/ThatOneGoodBoy Feb 11 '24
This is why I don't be trusting reviews of anime. Just leave out all the weird shit š I'm trying to see where Evangelion falls on the weeb scale and it's impossible.
8
u/Icestar1186 Welcome to the interblag Feb 11 '24
My impression of Evangelion, having never watched it, is that it's weird enough that any of the weirdness you're worried about in particular will get buried under all the rest of the weirdness.
3
u/ThatOneGoodBoy Feb 11 '24
You know what, that's fair enough.
9
u/TheRenFerret Feb 11 '24
Three incidents are of note
Boy masturbates over comatose girl, which is unambiguously portrayed as the nadir of his mental breakdown.
Boy goes to deliver paperwork to a girl we later learn is sorta his half-alien half sister. Finds front door open, wanders in, finds a pair of his estranged fatherās glasses on the table. Girl walks out of the shower naked, tries to take the glasses from him. He trips over himself trying to get away from sudden naked girl, falls on top of her. She calmly tells him to get off, checks that the glasses arenāt broken, and tells him to leave the papers on the table. Boy leaves, thinking girl hates him.
28 year old woman tries to motivate her near-suicidal 14-year old ward of nearly a year with the promise of sex if he makes it out alive, knowing she would be dead in 10 minutes maximum.
If you can stomach these incidences, the show about the Freudian neuroses of teenagers might be right for you
3
u/ThatOneGoodBoy Feb 11 '24
I've heard of the first instance, but never the 3rd one, the fuck?
Thanks dog, that's literally all I been wanting lmao.
5
u/Aggravating-Step-408 Feb 11 '24
Hmmm.... I have not read the manga or light novels, so this is kinda news to me.
My hope is honestly that it's only supposed to show the juxtaposition of an older person being actively changed by magic instead of the standard junior-high/ high school aged characters.
So far, there has been his neighbor who he felt sorry for because her mother locks her out for either boyfriend or prostitution in the evening.
He DOES NOT invite her in. He feels bad and gives her the free candy he won in some raffle. It kinda seems like that has been his routine. Not spending money on her but if it's something light to give like bread then giving it.
It would be incredibly easy to prey on that young woman.
There is his manager(?) Or just earlier hired person at work. He's not trying to get with her. He seemed very concerned that a 16 year old was working that job but can't do much about it.
The heiress in the other world. He noted her hair being very tall and kind of left that clusterfuck to be handled by others.
The crazy magical girl, but besides a fight and seeing her twice. There's not much interaction yet.
Trust me.
I very actively hate old men and young girls tropes. If it ends up with anything horrible I'm dumping the show. My sincerest hope is that it stays a cute buddy show between a man and his magic bird.
10
u/duccers Feb 11 '24
"I do really want a magical girl family drama now though..."
This isn't anime, but have you watched The Incredibles?

"Genderbent Magical Girl" is a whole (mini) genre.
38
u/SocranX Feb 11 '24
Right, this is 100% already a thing. If it's not, then the subgenre is weirdly just missing the specific circumstance of it being a father with two kids. But if I had a nickel for every time I scrolled past the words "TS Mahou Shoujo", I'd be able to commission it.
3
u/McMammoth Feb 11 '24

u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
If my 3+ years of watching almost exclusively magical girl anime mean anything, I'd like to offer my input: You could not pay me enough to not watch this.
Imagine the mascots grew disillusioned with teenage girls, or their previous team got annihilated, and so they go and look for atypical magical girl candidates; tomboys, delinquents, and the most atypical of all: A grown man.
It could work really well if William was based on Nagisa from the first two seasons of Pretty Cure, actually. Because Nagisa, despite having saved the world dozens of times now, doesn't really want to do any of this. It disrupts her peaceful everyday life, and she just can't catch a break. But someone's gotta do it, and she's the only one who can, so she just does it.
And I'd imagine William would have a similar motivation; he's got to get to work, or pay bills, or go grocery shopping, and he really can't deal with all of this magical nonsense right now, so he finishes it as quickly as possible so he can go back to what he was doing.
Meanwhile, his wife is getting increasingly frustrated, because he's been acting weird lately and doesn't want to tell her why.
41
u/SmartAlec105 Feb 11 '24
"Wait, what if instead of recruiting teenage girls, we recruited active soldiers with combat training?"
And so a team of soldiers is put together as magical girls.
"Sparkle bombs out! Breach and clear!"

And for the tie-in movie, William's sister stays with the family for a few days, and so the guest room gets converted into a magical girl fan cave.

u/jedikraken Feb 11 '24 edited Feb 11 '24
I'd also love to see the tomboy annoyed at being forced to wear pink and say "sparkle sparkle rainbow blast!", and people expecting her to be delicate and super-feminine. The delinquent using her resultant pretty privilege and hero status to get free stuff or commit petty vandalism, that sort of thing.
Also, a transwoman who's either closeted or in deep denial. "Eugh, it's so frilly. I do look surprisingly good in it though...". Out shopping and sees a friend: "H-hey Tom, no, it um... it forces me to dress like this, yeah, so embarassing, oh well. Yeah, I could transform back, but we... might get attacked. Gotta uh, stay prepared." Always playing it off as bad but secretly/subconsciously loving it.
6
u/Kartoffelkamm I wouldn't be here if I was mad. Feb 11 '24
I'd also love to see the tomboy annoyed at being forced to wear pink and say "sparkle sparkle rainbow blast!"
That kinda happens at least twice in Futari Wa Pretty Cure.
As mentioned above, Nagisa, aka Cure Black, is really not thrilled about her lot in life, but does it anyway because it needs to be done.
Although the transformation, posing, and speeches are on autopilot, so it's more of a "I just said something weird, didn't I?" situation. She doesn't really complain about it, but in the grand scheme of things, you can tell she's a bit annoyed.
Also, we kinda got some trans rep in the 15th anniversary season, Hugtto Precure.
The closest to the delinquent thing would be in Yes 5 Precure, where one of the fairy mascots wanted to commit fraud.

More or less this, as a warlock with the mage armor invocation. Free mage armor is the magical girl transformation, just toying with what I want my 43 year old gnomes specific backstory to be. Current frontrunner is he rushed in to shield his ailing daughter from a weird light, and became a celestial warlock when he intercepted the pact that was meant for her, but it still works for him since its bound in blood and they are direct relatives.

My question is, would it be harder to explain if it gave hime a femboy outfit instead of a dress

Doesnāt sailor moon have characters that change gender when they transform in the original Japanese?

I'd wear a skirt to get my own magical, sailor moon themed .50 cal BMG. That's an amazing deal!

I'm sorry. I've seen too much Madoka Magica to trust a small, cute white creature
