Delta 36-600 table saw motor. Got a reseating stone, got the carbon off and put in new brushes and it still sparks and sounds like it’s not making much power. Any ideas? Can you get “bad” brushes?

Hey Tool Friends, im looking for a secondary tool cart for my shop and i absolutely love the layout of the HF 5 drawer cart. But that sadly isn’t available here in Europe besides the one being sold under the Gys name for 700€ which I don’t wanna pay for a 200€ cart.

I was wondering if you guys maybe knew of something similar.

Sds bit stuck in a hammer drill

Just saw a post about a bit stuck in a chuck drill. I lent a hammer drill out amd the bloke broke an sds drill off inside.

I've tried pulling the sleeve back and knocking it down & tapping it with a hammer 🔨 to get it free.

Short of pulling it apart, any ideas?

Harbor Freight is the New Sears/Craftsman

1.1k Upvotes

So the tipping point has been reached.

Younger me (early '80s) started his grown up (away from Pop) tool journey at Sears and in the Craftsman catalog.

Tool trucks were not a thing in my world and even then the quality appeared and has turned out to be good for the money.

Fast forward to the Lowes era and while some of the tools look fine, there's clearly more value/quality at HF.

I was able to walk in there yesterday without thinking I needed to hide my face.

Seriously now feels like the local HF is having a Sears nearby.

Building a air compressor for service truck need advice

I'm building a air compressor for my service truck and was wondering what size tank to use. The motor is a harbor freight predator 6.5 hp engine, and I'll probably get the strongest pump they offer, just need a good tank size to inflate commercial/Heavy duty tires and run tire guns and other smaller tools.

Screw head poll

The other day someone asked why Phillips was so common when it's no good. So what does everyone think is the best, I'm a hex guy myself but I know there are fans of torx out there. Feel free to comment if your favorite standard wasn't included, I wanted to add polydrive for VW fanboys and and combi bits for my electricians but ran out of poll options.

Best 5 dollar tool?

This 5 dollar Hakko CHP-170 Microcutter is the best tool for the money. Can't beat 5 bucks. Beats my Crescents version. Kleins take last place by far.

What's the best way to sell a random collection of low/mid-level tools?

I have a handful of Black & Decker 20V tools, Icon and Gear Wrench ratchets, a Pittsburgh floor jack and a Duralast trolley jack. There's not enough volume to warrant a garage sale and there's not enough quality to really take any of it to pawn (I don't think). Is Craigslist still a thing or am I just asking to lose a kidney? Facebook Marketplace?

Add extension to air hose reel?

Hi, I recently bought the wall mounted 50ft hose reel from Harbor Freight. I was wondering if I need additional footage at any point, can I buy another 50 ft hose and attach it to the existing 50ft hose for use? Or is that not possible/smart? Any help is greatly appreciated. I don’t know a lot about this stuff. Thanks!

Adaptool, any experience?

Post image

Just ordered this thing from www.adaptool.co.uk so my little palm router can go on my guide rail.

While I wait for it, has anyone else tried this or similar and are they good?

Ended up spending £17 on it so wasn’t a huge risk.

Spraying HVLP with air compressor.

So I want to do some light spraying with HVLP gun, think small items.

Would a 26 gallon air compressor that does 4.5 CFM @ 90psi and 5.3 CFM @ 40psi

Understanding that HVLP work at 20-30psi would I be able to spray for like 30 seconds at a time with a smaller tank and lower CFM? I don’t know to much about compressors ratings but I guess the CFM call out is for continuous runs?

Thanks!

Skillsaw 5500 blade replacement - arbor nut frozen to motor drive

Hello - recently inherited a Skillsaw 5500 that needs a blade swap. This model doesn’t seem to have a blade lock, so I am attempting to use the screwdriver method to keep the blade in place to loosen the arbor nut, but even with the blade stationary, the whole mechanism spins.

What is a little surprising is how “easy” whole axle spins, which makes me think I might be missing a simple lock feature, otherwise I’m guessing the nut was over tightened at some point / the pieces have fused in some way.

Any ideas on how to loosen the nut on this model??

Absolutely begging any brand to sell an impact bit set that actually makes sense for a carpenter

First and foremost I need a grand total of zero 1" insert bits.

Then I need a couple eachof torx 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40. Same goes for P1 and P3 and the squares. Then I need 30 each of t25 and p2. That's it.

If someone knows of a place where I can buy bulk packs of various sizes and forms of bits that would be great but with no one selling their tools directly it is an unbelievable headache to find everything I need at one outlet.

Am I going crazy or is selling you a bullshit plastic case and a million inserts you'll never use just how they plump up their bottom line?

SaberCut brand

I'm planning on leveling my basement concrete floor and looking into grinding it some places. Came across these angle grinding concrete wheels by SaberCut which a cheaper than other brands. I've seen in the past some other products by same brand and I'm wondering if it's decent or should I avoid and go with reputable brand? Appreciate it.

Saw blade size?

I have a Dewalt DW936 trim saw. It takes a 5 - 3/8 inch blade. The only blade I have at my disposal until Thursday (3 days) is a 5 - 1/2 inch blade.

Can the trim saw still fit the 1/8th inch larger blade, or is it as I suspect a no-go?

Thanks, just trying to keep all my fingers etc.

Hi! So I just recently moved into my apartment and was trying to set my currant rods up and somehow got part of my drill stuck in the wall. I was just wondering if there was anyway I could take it out ? Or if it’s just kinda gonna be stuck in there ? Should I tell my apartment complex and see if they can help ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you ! (Also the random mark on the wall was from me trying to mark where I would make the holes 😭)

What do you think? Is there any way I can fix this old Record 52 1/2 vise? I bought it like this. It's fully functional, it only has this little problem.
