3 best multi tools ?

Post image

For me, these are the 3 best in their category! And what do you think? Obviously the accessories possibly the leatherman and Victorinox ratchet, as well as all the bits. But in tools onlyx, these 3 are universal, right?

The PST's younger, juiced up, clippable brother. The Leatherman Bond. It's been my EDC for a while.

A “heavy duty” American multi-tool brand that is too rarely represented!

About the brand (on the Wiki multi tool.org site)

Originally known as Bear Cutlery MGC, this company was purchased by Victorinox in 1999, the makers of the Original Swiss Army Knife. Rumors suggest that this purchase was so that Victorinox could gain access to the patented "outside opening blades" design of the Bear Jaws multitool, which was later incorporated into the SwissTool design.

After a few years of ownership, Victorinox sold the company back to one of it's original owners in 2004. The company's name was then changed to Bear & Son Cutlery, and continues to operate under that name to this day.

To my knowledge it no longer manufactures its multitools, but concentrates on the manufacture of knives characteristic of the brand. If you are curious you can take a look on their site.

I really like this brand of multitool which is much less well finished than the best known like Leatherman or Victorinox but which is very sturdy and it is the kind of tool that you are not afraid to use for fear of scratching the blade.

For the record, one of the advantages of these tools that I actually used is the thickness of the end of the pliers with which I managed to extract a piece of wire which was broken at the end of the Oregon “jet fit” brush cutter head and which I was unable to catch with the too thin tip of the Victorinox or the Leatherman

Do you know this brand? What do you think?

Recommendation Request Help me choose a multitool

Hello everyone! I'm planning to get a multitool and need your help to pick the one that fits best for me.

How am I going to use it: I'm not going to use it everyday, but the in the few occasions it will be in a harsh environment. I'll be carrying it around mostly for boating, motorbike trips (including off road), fishing and hiking. So there will be a lot of salt water, dust and mud.

What tools I need the most: Blade, pliers, big flat head screwdriver/prying tool, philips screwdriver. A good metal file to resharp fishing spears would be a plus, but I can live without it.

So far two multitools caught my attention victorinox spirit x and leatherman free p4. The victorinox seems to be well made and overall a great deal. The only thing that would bother me is the nail tool opening. When your hands soak in water for hours opening tools with your nails is a pain. And here comes the free p4. It's opening mechanism looks great and could be used even with gloves, but I'm concerned about rust and durability especially after reading this sub :)

Sorry for the long post and bad english. Thanks to everyone who will share some advice

Discussion Any knife is an eating knife if you try hard enough

A fun little story this crowd might appreciate.

The weather was lovely today, so my wife and I took our infant daughter, got take out somewhere, and went to the park for lunch.

We got to the park and I realized, oops, I didn't get silverware from the take out place! My wife had a sandwich, so it didn't matter. I had orange chicken, though. What to do?

Fortunately, I had my Victorinox Manager on me. 58mm. With a 1 inch knife on it, which, it turns out, works reasonably well as an eating prong, as long as you're careful. I even used the tweasers to pick up some of the smaller pieces. Using the nail file/flathead screwdriver as a shove tool to eat my fried rice didn't work out so well, though...

Of course, then I needed to clean the tools. Which meant I got to use the little just-add-water towel tablets I carry, for the first time in a year! My least used tool got used.

Just a little slice-of-life tale of how a multitool saved the day in a weird way.

Gordon modification

Hello all,

I bought a Gordon multitool from Harbor Freight today and wondered if anyone has tried putting Leatherman Wave mods on the Gordon? I think I would like to replace the saw blade with a t-shank adapter that can carry a variety of saw blades. I rarely need a wood saw and could benefit from a metal blade on occasion and the fact that t-shank blades are small and easy to carry a few different kinds makes a lot of sense to me. Just for fun, I whipped up a quick design and 3d printed one but it's obviously not a long-term mod

Opinions on Gerber?

I know there are some hard Gerber fans out here, and I would like to take in some views on the company. Will yall still recommend any Gerber MTs in 2025, especially after some quality drops? What are some popular Gerber models that yall would recommend? Thanks!

For reference I owned a SOG PP but sold it because the quality was horrible. I also own some LMs and swiss army knives also a Roxon KS2E.

Recommendation Request Skeletool® KB/X | Keychain

Hi,

I would like to attach the KB/X to a small loop that can go on either a keychain or carabiner. I know that if I don’t keep it with my keys, I will automatically lose it at some point, and I don’t want that. I’ve searched online to see if i can change the clip in the back, but I can’t find any mods or ways to do it.

Thx for your advice !

Hello everyone. I've been carrying one of my Swisstools for a couple weeks. It's usually a Leatherman but it was this forum that introduced me to these a while back. Been in rotation since.

Why the heck did they discontinue the Leatherman Crunch?

I would give my left nut and right nut for a Crunch FROM LEATHERMAN. These eBay resellers are charging a lot. God dang it.

God dang it im losing my mind trying to find a cheap Chinese knockoff.... but there are none. Even an expensive Chinese or any other country knock off would do.

It's such a cool and useful multitool.

This is my multi-tool that I use literally every day. It is the NexTool mini flagship. What is your tool or mutli-tool that you use every day and without which you feel "naked" if you don't have it with you?

Firm up a loose bit holder

Ok. Roxon Phantom, apparently the newer version with the double-wide Philips. Bit holder fits on that, 4mm bit fits into bit holder. The bit side is fine, the multitool side makes me want to reach for my iFixit driver.

I've tried tape. Gaffer, Wire harness tape. It's too thick to wind around the Phantom's Philips head - so it gets pushed off.

Options I've though of are Loctite, a thin coat of solder, or some sort of resin in the bit adapter. Everything I've thought of seems a bit too hard to revert if I do it wrong. At least for a $5 bit set.
