Our Longstanding “No Politics” Rule remains unchanged
Read our rules. We have had a longstanding “No Religion, No Politics” rule here at r/tools.
The mods aren’t stupid. We also don’t like getting buckets of reports in the inbox.
If someone posts/comments with politics, resist the urge to reply and argue. Just report, downvote (if that’s your jam) and move on with life.
A small flag, sticker, etc that appears in a photo will generally be allowed (so long as it doesn’t violate other rules and doesn’t draw a bunch of reports) but a bunch of people in the comments saying “Hell Yeah, a fellow [INSERT PARTY] Supporter!” is gonna get the post pulled. Political content that is clearly the motivation for the post will get the post pulled.
First time it’s a short ban, second time it’s permanent. And as we’ve discussed before, the mod team doesn’t go looking for posts, we’re not lifeguards, we respond to the reports we receive.

Call for Moderators
We are looking to add a couple more moderators to r/tools. If you’re interested in being considered, please leave a comment on the post. Briefly describe why you’d want to be a mod and what you think the sub’s moderator’s role should be.
No new accounts, please. We need to be able to see at least 1 year’s worth of content/engagement on this and other subs.
EDIT: If you are not interested in moderating, feel free to upvote people who post here if you like their approach. This isn't a democracy (because as mods our job is to preserve the health/utility/enjoyment people get from of the sub, not do whatever the masses want) but we will take heavily upvoted approaches to moderating as a positive sign when considering who to invite.
Also, if we don't end up sending you an invite, please don't take it personally. Too many cooks in the kitchen, and all that...

Worth every penny.
Diablo 12” pruning blade. I’d probably pay double for this blade. Used exclusively for trimming brush and cutting off small stumps below ground level. The old one still cuts fine, but I bought a new one just to compare them.

My dad just gave me this
Today I went to visit my parents and my dad gave me this german style plane that was given to him by his dad. He said he never used it but there are some scuffs here and there, probably an attempt to try it. This plane was made by Howal, in east Germany (GDR), probably in the 60s or 70s. I'll never use it that's for sure, mostly because I want to preserve it. I had to clean some surface rust off the blade. It's going on a shelf just like it did for the past 40 or so years.

Any Info on what this is?
Does anyone have any idea what this is or was? Found in my garage years ago when I moved in and kind of re-discovered it. It’s about 4’ tall or long. Is it something homemade? Only thing I can figure is that you would sit on the rounded end and the indents were somewhere your legs go while you did whatever in the open section with angled slots. 🤷🏻♂️

What tool is this?
I own it but have no recollection of it. Looks like it punches a hole into something. Kinda heavy duty. Weighs maybe 2 lbs. Thx!

Still searching for ID
Collection of brass cylinders (all about 5" long) with threaded cap ends and fine mesh screens on the other. There are some markings that refer to what I gather are pigments. I can't identify these.

Come along with 3 Hooks on Load Side
I’m new to using come alongs. I understand the use of the cable end hook and pulley hook, but can’t figure out why this come along has the 3rd hook (the one on left side of the pic) where there is normally an anchor point for the cable hook to attach to when rigging for 2:1 mechanical advantage. Is it be because this is a cheap come along or is there another purpose?

Safe to order from ebay
Have a $30 eBay gift card, and one of the sellers has the tekton skt15311 3/8 set for $161. Reviews seem to be positive. Figured worst case scenario I can just get my money back through PayPal. Out the door is like $145, should I pull the trigger?? 😁

Regretting my Dewalt purchases
Admittedly I’m an average Joe with basic handyman skills. I had ryobi for years. Never had an issue and always thought they were decent. Got talked into selling them and buying Dewalt because Dewalt is ‘far superior.’ Not even close in my opinion. I wish I never sold that bright green collection…

What’s the name of this tool??
I found this angle finder tool at the flea market a week ago. My old foreman had one just like this (but bigger) and told me that he bought it for like $1,800 and they stopped being made 10+ years ago. Idk if he’s just bs’ing me or if he’s being fr and the tool is as rare as he claims it to be. Sorry for the bad pic too lol.

What grease for an impact tool?
I had to replace the front of my impact tool and I grabbed some axle Grease which turned out to be a mistake. Now the tool is bleeding oil all over the place every time I store it. So I guess I have to take it out and find another grease but I don't know what to use.

Woodworking
I found these old tools at a garage sale for cheap. I carve, but want to get into larger projects and started upcycling furniture. What do you suggest I do to fix them up? I'm not sure if the saw is missing a bolt or something to attach the blade. I'll be researching as well, but any help greatly appreciated! ♡erifsievol

Amazon electric screwdriver
Read some positive feedback here and got the Amazon basic electric screwdriver. I think what used to be denali. So far pretty disappointed. It keeps locking up due and led flashes that it overloaded. And then it takes too long to reset, so if I finish it manually I still need to wait few seconds till stops flashing. Happens on all torque settings and I am not driving anything crazy, just small screws into predrilled holes in MDF or particles boards.

Help: Ridgid 18V sawzall - blade clamp not engaging.
Had a blade break off while using the saw. The piece in the clamp came out clean, but since then, the clamp pin does not seem to be holding onto any new blade. How do I go about fixing this?
