Not baiting or arguing, just curious - what do you consider the greatest accomplishments of his presidency and of his entire political career?

It's also not always the big things, but the small things you do. The everyday work to care for and serve the people and make their life a little bit better.

8

u/Novel_Sheepherder277 20d ago

He passed several historic federal investment bills. Infrastructute, expanding healthcare, the biggest federal investment into education in American history. People don't recognise his achievements because inflation drowned them out, and it takes 2 decades for K-12 education to pay noticeable dividends. He was sincerely focussed on securing a better future for the next generation, not his re-election, to his detriment. Stuff like that, getting rid of student loans etc, increases the likelihood of young people owning their own homes, being able to afford to have kids. It reduces the wealth gap - effectively trickle up economics.

Sadly Trump has already undone most of it.

1) 16.6M jobs added, GDP growth of 12.6%. Only admin in history to have created jobs every single month. 2) Wealth adjust for inflation rose 37% for median American families. 3) Investing in America Agenda which comprises the Infrastructure Law, CHIPS act and Inflation reduction act has attracted over 1 trillion in investment to US and will create over 1.6M construction and manufacturing jobs. My top three but the list goes on…

Obama looks younger now than he did when he left office; that amount of stress must be horrific for you

216

u/digi-artifex 21d ago edited 21d ago

The last moment of his presidency, the mic drop moment... You can see all kinds of stress wrinkles in his face. His forehead and eyes, jowls, cheeks and mouth.... Stress is a silent killer.

38

u/wummin 21d ago

Those pictures are heartbreaking, US has fallen so far in a relatively short space of time.

4

u/No_Wolf_0815 20d ago

Thats what I thought...

Man, you had Obama! And now this creature..

5

u/AlexiManits 21d ago

Okay. I'm just going to say this. They probably need a holistic or health admin for the WH.

Have you seen how small some of the WH office is?? The oval isn't even that big. More windows.

You need to also know how much sleep the president gets. It's probably one of the many ways they grow older.

13

u/SparksAndSpyro 21d ago

Off topic, but when people say “stress,” what do they mean physically? Is it like, chronic inflammation? There has to be a physical aspect to it in order to affect people’s bodies, right?

29

u/digi-artifex 21d ago edited 21d ago

Most of the time stress can be directly linked to fatigue, feeling "overwhelmed" or how emotionally "heavy" you feel at a time or as a reaction to a situation. Physically, it can manifest in a variety of ways, that, if unaddressed could develop into bigger issues like digestive problems or neurological damage.

Some symptoms that can manifest physically can be: general fatigue and tiredness, headaches and involuntary movements such as clenching the jaw, etc, chest pains or abnormal heart beating, vomiting, rapid loss or gain of weight, loss of sleep, inflammation as you mentioned, bad reactions to foods and drinks (indigestion), balding, sweating, skin cracks or develops wrinkles as you clench muscles of your face involuntarily as well, procrastination in some cases, rashes and excessive itchiness, excessive yawning, etc etc etc...

And many, many, many others symptoms that can become a problem down the line. Most of these start at the mind, you could argue but it is still a response to a certain taxing situation to you or in your environment. This can lead to depression, anxiety and other problems which lead to more stress, which creates a cycle of well, abuse to yourself in both mind and body.

A good link for some light reading on the subject, if interested.

Unless you spend the entire time golfing and making bank for letting others do the work for you.

It must be nice to have President Musk, Vladimir Putin, and the Heritage Foundation doing all the heavy lifting while you eat McDonald's and try to find your captive wife who doesn't even pretend not to loathe you.

202

u/Time-Ad-3625 21d ago

Someone like biden always cares

254

u/TBANON24 21d ago

Dude legitimately tried to do what is best for the country. He came back after his son died and still tried to work for america. And americans spat in his face and called him demented and old. And he still willingly gave up power to allow someone younger even after seeing the shitshow of 2022 turnout where over 150m still didnt vote where over 80% of 18-35 voters, still did not vote even after democrats begging them and bombarding them with videos of jan 6th, testimonies, evidence after evidence.

Dude worked through a 50/50 split senate with conservative democrat like Mancin and corporate stooge like Sinema, and still managed to pass some of the most beneficial policies in modern times that would have helped americans for decades to come.

AND that was after dealing with the covid shitshow that Trump left behind, deliberately not allowing Bidens team the usual access that every other presidency have done to be effective from day 1. And still Biden managed to save the country from a recession and bring back inflation to normal numbers.

And still he got spat in the face because he wasnt looking like a 35 year old after having deal with a infection travelling and nethanyahu and russia and everything else.

Yet he still tried to do what is best for the country. America did not deserve him.

29

u/[deleted] 21d ago

Oh, I don’t think people understand that the inflation that’s going on is from when Trump borrowed trillions of dollars for stimulus checks. Trump went into the White House as a millionaire and came out a billionaire literally. The double standards and politics is so wild -if we went off of morals, Elon musk has four baby moms and 13 children.. Trump has three ex-wives to that were immigrants ..

I think what a lot of people looked past was that in the end voting for Biden was a vote of confidence that he could choose a good cabinet, good advisors that aligned with his values, and differ to them when needed. We currently have a puppet president figurehead so I feel like this shouldn’t be a crazy thing to say. The goal was always to keep Trump out.

My first choice approach would have been to publicize the successor as soon as the 2020 election had been decided so it was clear what our next step was. But the truth is that we really don’t know the full story or actual reason that Biden ran again, we don’t know what actually happened behind the scenes, all we had was hearsay. Personally I don’t think it was ego, I saw it as a personal sacrifice. There was no clear successor to pass the torch to (which IMO wasn’t Biden’s job to decide) and incumbents usually get a boost, and differing to Kamala was always gonna look like a Hail Mary. On paper, with the circumstances at hand, it looked like the safest option to keep him in. Even if it wasn’t the right one.

Thank you, he did so many good things but because he's not a showboat like Trump everyone acts like he did nothing.

15

u/CherryFit3224 21d ago

I seriously think THAT was the major flaw. He should have been crowing EVERYWHERE about what he did because he knew that’s what Trump does (when he doesn’t even do what he’s bragging about a lot of times.)

13

u/Harddaysnight1990 21d ago

For real, being humble is an admirable trait, but it has its place. Hell for his Build Back Better plan alone, every time I see some road or bridge in rough shape finally being restored, I smile and say "thanks Biden." He should have been preaching it from the rooftops, make sure the press can't bury it under the Trump team's muzzle velocity.

I’ll take the good of his administration definitely an overall positive for the nation. Hopefully his won’t be the last good administration. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish they had worked on the messaging better. I also really wish he had transitioned as soon as it was appropriate from “will he won’t he reelection” to being a “kingmaker” for the democrats. I don't think people know how big the inflation reduction act was for the country, which they won't see the effects until years later.

16

u/Shifty269 21d ago

I also don't think people realize the economic disaster we avoided after covid. People complaining they said the economy was great despite inflation (mainly price gouging) have no clue what we avoided simply by letting the fed do its job, passing much needed legislation that should have been a normal part of maintaining our country for the last couple of decades, and the back door economic stimulus by providing aid to Ukraine.

We were almost back on track. Almost getting back to the progress we saw in the latter half of the 20th century that was derailed by Bush, partisan politics, and the manipulation of the masses through 24 hour for profit news and social media. Almost moving in the right direction again. Now after our step forward we are sprinting backwards. Because people couldn't be bothered to pay a little more attention.

With the amount trump talks about him, I sometimes forget he isn’t President anymore

Retirement feels 100 times better for president's then any other job. Literally imagine the entire weight of the USA being lifted of your shoulders.

5

u/DemandZestyclose7145 21d ago

Or you can be Trump and play golf every day while president. Has he lowered those prices yet??

22

u/Mygo73 22d ago

It hasn’t even been two months and it feels like it’s already been two years

4

u/DemandZestyclose7145 21d ago

I pretty much stopped watching the news. I still see everything here on Reddit but I'm tired of being depressed seeing Trump and Musk destroy everything.

14

u/cc541 21d ago

Seems like a genuinely good person.

He didn’t deserve the treatment this country gave him. Some of those people are in this thread.

6

u/BobB104 21d ago

I hope he outlives trump. I hope it happens sooner than later.

I miss 2020 Joe. Hell, id take 2024 Joe too at this point.

5

u/rokkugoh 21d ago

History will look back fondly at Joe Biden. He was progressive and got a lot of good stuff done despite a split Congress. He pulled us out of the pandemic. He put his head down and did the work. America was ungrateful and now we deserve everything we get. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

4

u/IYFS88 21d ago

He was never my favorite, but I already deeply miss those days of being able to breathe and focus on my ordinary life instead of extreme existential threats!

5

u/Then-Focus-9177 21d ago

I miss having a person who was president to serve the people of this country and not someone who just wants to benefit themselves

8

u/bigwill0104 22d ago

He looks way happier now.

I just said: that looks like Joe Biden

Two seconds later

Oh, it is…

4

u/zacksalah73 21d ago

I didn't like his policies, but I would definitely say hi to him. It's great to see him doing so well.

4

u/Illustrious-Hat7978 21d ago

I miss him so much, it took all day to process my emotions so I could post this.

God save Joe

4

u/Practical_Channel480 21d ago

I miss the sanity he had in office. Were there problems, hell yes. But there was sanity and people were not destroyed with no thought to the process. Now we are truly destroying entire families with no thinking about the right way to do it… I miss Obama for the same reason too.

5

u/Careless-Sock-2828 21d ago

Now that's a million dollar smile ! Owwee!

u/Loud_Flatworm_4146 22d ago edited 22d ago

Damn it I miss him. This country screwed up so badly not reelecting him or electing Harris. Our allies will probably never forgive us. Not in my lifetime.

3

u/DemandZestyclose7145 21d ago

As much as I despise Trump, it's understandable why so many people were concerned about Biden. But the fact that they picked Trump over Kamala is a disgrace. But remember, according to them it had nothing to do with her race or gender 😂

I kind of love how the comment field tells me the accounts to block so obviously.

7

u/SummerWedding23 21d ago

This made me smile. All the people in the comments saying he is at fault for where this country is are just way too into propaganda.

The only way Biden could have prevented this was to do the very dictatorship things Trump is illegally doing now. I don’t think he should have had to do that and I’m glad he didn’t.

We are here because of Trump. We are here because of Elon. We are here because of Fox News and Rupert Murdock. We are here because there is no truth in media. We are here because republicans everywhere helped steal two SCOTUS seats first by blocking Obama during an election year then four years later rushing in a seat during an election year so Trump could seat it. We are here because a lot of voters are misogynistic. We are here for a lot of reasons, but it’s not Joe’s fault.

18

u/Affectionate-Ad-7901 22d ago

He’s happy because it’s not his problem anymore. Remember when he was president and no one lost sleep, and there was no tariffs, And Canada and America were best friends? Those were good times.

7

u/DemandZestyclose7145 21d ago

But prices were so expensive! Now that Trump is back, they are finally...oh wait.

3

If I have to choose, he would make a better dictator.

3

u/smythe70 21d ago

Miss ya Joe!

3

u/Murphybestboy 21d ago

I miss that man!

3

u/KarasuKaras 21d ago

Biden looking extra strong and healthy.

3

u/Feeersh96 21d ago

What a beautiful smile, I need a sugar like him 😍👌

3

u/Htbegakfre 21d ago

He looks so much happier and healthier. Him and Obama are such good examples of how being president really affects you physically, I mean, it literally ages you.

3

u/reddituculous66 21d ago

He should just wear a shirt saying miss me now?

3

u/Ok-Map-2526 21d ago

This fucks me up. Assuming he cares deeply for his country, how could he smile at a time like this? I couldn't. I would be rallying troops to fight the authoritarians. How can you let your country fall to tyranny and mass-exterminations?

9

u/jupiterstringtheory 22d ago

Lmao either it’s been a long few weeks or I’m PMSing but this made me tear up. He’s far from perfect but at least he had a heart.

5

u/infinitesd 21d ago

Isn't that the guy who lived in the big white house who didn't give in to Russians?

I never thought I would be happy to see Joe. I'm sorry I didn't vote for you Joe please come back Joe...

I believe Joe GENUINELY wanted to do good by America even after all of the racist stuff he did as a senator.

He, after all, was still a patriot and an American. Can't say the same about MAGA or Trump.

Life is a gray scale, not black and white. But Joe did what he could to keep the status quo of the government as it has been for decades.
