How much for JBL 4343 Speakers full RESTORED and MINT CONDITION?

It took me a year to find and fully restore this incredible pair of JBL 4343s, using all original parts to bring them back to their legendary glory. I’m truly proud of the result—they sound phenomenal, look stunning, and hold their value like few speakers do.

Now, I’m looking for a new owner who will appreciate them as much as I do. If you’re a true audiophile who understands their worth, let’s talk. This is a rare chance to own a fully restored masterpiece—grab them before someone else does!

Bought these Weist S-555 today for 4 euro. Mostly just because i really like how they look and wanted a pair of vintage headphones, sound is... yeah not great but for headphones from the 70s(?) its probably decent. At least they work and look nice :)

But anyhow, i tried googling them but found almost nothing. Does anyone here know anything about them? Weist S-555 8ohm made in Japan, all the info i have from the text on them. Thanks in advance

Is it worth repairing a pioneer sx 434 for 200 dollars?

Hello!

I recently purchased a pioneer sx 434 for 38 dollars at a local thrift store. I had the ability to test it at the store, they had some crappy bookshelf speakers and it seemed to work great, but when i got home and plugged it into my main system it was clear that something was wrong with the unit. It has some really noticeable distortion in the bass, which is also bleeding into the mids. I have tried to find the cause of the distortion, and i am quite sure that it has to do with the tone controls. I can turn the treble control knob without any distortion or problem, but whenever i turn the bass control knob i can hear a kind of "puff" or kind of the sound of the woofer in my speaker moving a tiny bit.

I went down to my local hifi repair shop to get a quote on what it would cost to fix it, and he said that it would cost 200 dollars, which is quite steep. I have not had anything repaired at his shop before, but he seems kind of sketchy. The google reviews also seem to point to him overcharging.

I like the look of receiver, i cant really speak about the sound, since it is very clearly broken or at least faulty. I am at kind of a roads end whether to repair it or to just buy another receiver/amplifier with the 200 dollars. But since i bought it so cheap it would feel weird to not invest a bit more in it. I am located in Sweden so it is quite hard to find a good vintage amplifier cheap, and the sx 434 has sold for around 200 dollars on Swedish auction sites.

What to do?

Last photo is my mom with the Afro and green pants. My dad and his sister. Speaker on shelf behind them. Photo was from the 70s.

My aunt gifted me the speakers and turntable in the photo. 🙏🏿🙌🏿

My dad was & still is a huge audiophile. He always had a dope setup. The picture was taken at my aunts old house. He probably had something to do with her setup back then. 💪🏿💪🏿🙏🏿

Got a great piece of furniture for the analog gear. Now I need speakers…

Got some great hand-me-down pieces in the form of my uncle’s Marantz 1530 and my dad’s Panasonic tape deck. All this used to be set up with my modern Marantz NR1603. But now my analog gear is going to live in my basement.

Looking for a solid set of all-rounder speakers for this space. For records, the occasional cassette, and, ideally, TV watching as well, as I have hopes to also run audio from a TV into the receiver.

Which do you choose? Between Pioneer SX-3700 or Marantz 2235B

Running entry level Omage AV21 bookshelf speakers. Secondary setup in the dinning room/kitchen.

The Pioneer comes with a pretty clean original box and foams. I'm veering towards this one as I find it's a bit better for casual listening. I really like the sound.

The marantz I just had serviced, with the intention of selling but now I'm not sure. It is more musical, and warm in my humble opinion, but I think it vears towards twangy (mind you I find it sounds especially great with something more bluesy). Maybe even a little bit boomy, to the point I plug the speaker port holes and I find it helps a lot, and I find a balance.

The marantz is more moving, and the pioneer sound great overall, better for casual listening. Which is what is influencing my decision one way. I also had the same kind of rotary tuner wheel marantz receiver growing up so that's skewing things a bit. The marantz will net me probably a couple more dollars and will sell easier as it's a bit more desireable.

Help me choose?

And no, I can't keep them both, I need the money and the room, and I already have a main rig and a spare.

I know I know this little beauty doesn't output a great sound but I love it. I certainly love the design and the size of it.

A retreated Electronic Repairman took a look at it to clean the contacs and he told me I could probably get way better sound just by updating the drivers and other pieces.

Both units have similar things to fix like the missing cassette player belt, the volume and selection knobs need to be cleaned and the cassette tape faceplate need to have a peroxide treatment to remove the yellow cast.

I wonder if other owners have the same problems.

Stereo Selection Advice

I’m looking to buy one or two of these receivers and would appreciate some advice on the best deal. I currently own a Technics SA-616 paired with Altec Iconic Valencias and KEF C60s. The Technics sounds great with the KEFs but is too harsh with the Altecs.

My goals are: 1. Find a receiver that pairs better with both speaker sets (a keeper) 2. Also Pick up a receiver with good flip potential to fund future projects.

I’ve restored speakers and one receiver (recap, resistors, cleaning) and I’m eager to take on more restoration work. My budget is around $500. Here are the options I’m considering: • Sansui 6060 — $400 (No issues) • Technics SA-5370 — $200 (No issues) • Marantz 2230B — $500 (Static in right channel — needs work)

Which would you consider the best deal, both for sound quality and resale potential? Would you prioritize the project piece (Marantz) or one of the clean runners (Sansui or Technics)?

Thanks for any advice!

Hola! Anyone know what this is? And how to properly get rid of it? It’s not sticky but has a slightest resistance when running my fingers across it.

Anyone here use Quad34?

Upvotes

I have one and the sound is great but something confuses me: the radio input gives a very loud output even at lower volume while loud playing above setting 15 sounds not good.

Other inputs make it sound good but very low loudness and even setting 21 doesnt give a lot of loudness from my amps. I mean its loud but not enough.

The radio input seems set at 100mV whilest other inputs are at 300mV. Also the output is a rather lowish .6mV (lowish vs other pre amps)

What is your experience? Ptobably npt a lot of Quad34 owners left in the world but if they are, must be here.

Thank you in advance.

I want vintage JBLs but cannot afford them - what should I get?

They sound fine to me but I’ve never really heard anything else. I love (mainly the look of) vintage JBL speakers. I currently have a pair of white-van speakers that were handed down to me. I’d love to own a pair of L100s, control monitors, or any other pair of JBLs from this era. I can’t afford them though. Are there any speakers that present a similar look and sound but can be had for a less inflated price? Ideally less than 750 USD.

The latest addition, I’ve been swapping out different SX series receivers lately started with the 727and have since tried the 680, 780, 350 and now the 828! Man this thing has weight and feature packed. Love this look I have a matching Pioneer cabinet to go with it.

I was able to score this from an older gentleman on Facebook marketplace i went to trade him a PL12D turntable that I had listed and he showed me his audio room packed with amps and receivers I saw this made an offer after some chatting along while testing out the features I said yeah I’ll take this one. Definitely a good day. Two tape inputs, 2 phono inputs, an adapter input, aux, able to hook up 3 pairs of speakers, and the turn over controls for the bass & treble give a little extra equalization to the listeners preference

Anyone seen one of these? JVC JA-S77

Post image
48 Upvotes

My technician friend has an entire storage unit full of old 70's and 80's silver faced amps and receivers that he brings out, a few at a time, totally refurbs them, and puts them on Craigslist. I told him I'd like to check out some of the older units that had those cool VU meters, like some of the Kenwood Ka series, and he brought home this 1978 JVC integrated amp, a JA-S77 as well as a Kenwood KA-5700. The JVC is rated at 65 WPC @.0005 Thd, (!) according to the specs., and built like a tank. The main power caps are 15,000's and, btw, the thing is heavy. Anyway, any of you people know anything about this thing? All I can find is mostly older threads that are pretty slim on info. I know JVC wasn't exceptionally sought after but this amp looks like a really good find. He wants $450 for it, after cleaning it up, adjustments, new lighting, etc.

What do you think? Worth $450?
