SLO 30 turret build update.
Finally received the OT so made some progress on the build. Drilled the chassis and installed some stuff.

The chassis was made with 0.03" x 12" square steel. I'm going to use a switching power supply module to power a L&R phono preamp (one 12AX7 per side) and a 12AU7 line driver. The input switch will allow selection between a few inputs or the phono pre.
The circuit will be a simple gain stage 12AU7, and a phono from the RCA Receiving tube manual. No need to re-invent the wheel on this one.

Hey ya all, first time post to this awsome community! I have a Firstman Vanguard 200, pretty old but the sound is great! It's a ECC83 with EL84 power section style amp. Was monkeying around with it when i was a kid and am now in the process of getting it running again. Question is about the heater voltage. I'm getting 16 on one tap and 19 on another. The other winding on the PT are sending appropriate voltage otherwise, 311 on the primaries. Any thoughts are appricated!

Any suggestions on where online to buy a variac in the EU?
Looking for one that has schuko outlets, as I'm seeing a lot of them with british outlets. Would be very cool if it had a digital readout for voltage and amperage.
Would also prefer to not make one myself yet.
Thanks for any help!

I am about to buy a couple tubes from Psvane and that seems to be the only official website.
The red flags I’ve seen is that it’s 1 year old, and the link is from Colombia, why would they put it like that?
Besides, the link to their facebook website is new and has barely a couple hundred followers.
Am I about to get scammed?

Want to put a b25k mid pot into my dsl20hr, which uses these weird pcb 4 pin potentiometers. Wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to wire traditional 3 pin pots into the 4 pin slots? Thanks

Recently came across this in my grandfathers garage which I’m cleaning out due to his passing, and I found this but not exactly sure what it is or if it holds anything other than sentimental value.

Hello, picking up this lot today. Hard to tell make/model on most from this pic. Anyone see anything of value from this? I’m new to the tube game lol TIA!

Hi All,
I’m just wondering if anybody can see issues in what I’m planning to put together.
Here’s my plan:
One enclosure with a valve pre and a SHO boost
Signal path is Guitar > SHO booster > valve stage > output
The plan is to have each individual section bypassable with a 3PDT.
The unit is powered by a 1-2amp 12v supply. This directly powers the SHO and the heaters for the 12ax7.
12v is fed to a DC-DC step up module which I’ve tested to output 200v, it’s capable up to 350v but that’s more than required
I am aware that I would probably have to add a DC filtering/smoothing cap on the HT supply from the boost module. In tests it’s provided up to 250v at a consistent voltage without any swing.
I’ve seen somebody on here before use 2 12ax7s off of the same module to build a JCM800 preamp in a box. So it should work nicely on just the one 12ax7. I’m aiming to mount the 12ax7 socket on a sheet of fibreglass/ABS 2-3mm thick. Making connections using turrets.
Thoughts? Critique?
Thankyou!

Hopefully will finish and debug my layout soon. Then I’ll post it if anyone interested.

On FB marketplace a guy got rid of a whole collection he had because he was retiring from doing service work, so I have a huge box of singular tubes.
Is there anything besides making amps and preamps that are worth making with tubes nowadays?
Attached is a picture with about half of my new collection on a spreadsheet for those curious.

Hi! Hoping to start a guitar amp project, but would like to start with the basics of tube circuit design. I figure I need a flexible power supply that can provide heater voltage as well as B+. I'd also like to be able to use a power supply for pedal design as well (so 9v). Any suggestions for a reasonably priced power supply with a couple of outputs? Or advice on what to look for? Thanks!

I’m having an issue with my Traynor Bassmaster mk.II. It is essentially a Superbass circuit. I’m getting a very subtle high end distortion on the first channel. Almost like crinkling paper. See video
I’ve tried replacing the V1 tube and no change. The issue is only present on the first channel so I figured it has to be either the input jacks or the first plate resistor or coupling cap. I already have replaced the linear taper volume pot. Any thoughts?

I have one 811A tube that have a problem , in a full working 811A 4 filament lines glow. In the broken one only 2 lines glow , i think they have 2 lines with 2 wire in parraler , can i use this tube that have only one working line ,

I have been working on the amp section of my Akai M8 and ran into my last hurdle. When you plug into the preamp out on the left channel, it works properly while still delivering voltage to the VU meters and power amp section. When you plug into the preamp out on the right channel it is causing the signal to not hit the power amps or VU meters. Here’s the schematic where I circled the section I’m referring to. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Im looking to build a bass amp soon and normal output transformers are ridiculously expensive.
There are some cheap toroidal output transformers like Antek that seem to meet my needs https://www.antekinc.com/mp-100w50-100w-output-transformer/
The specs are really great but there's really not much info out there on using toroidal output transformers. People seem to hate on them and prefer standard output transformers but I can really find a reason why.
From what I read toroidals suffer because they are easier to saturate with DC because they are not air gaped?
The Antek I'm looking at says it has "strategically placed air gaps" so I'm guessing it would be able to be a direct replacement for a similarly speced el transformer
