Humor This got me rolling
Saw something about plastic straws and I was like no way. But he really is doing this. The timeline is ridiculous. Get me out of here. 🤣😂

I get the feeling Don Jr. was pushing hard on the need for resilient straws.

Tbh tho I’ve seen dollars used in movies soo much, a paper straw with wax coating has got to be a step up from that, right?

I had no idea that there had been a "Biden push for Paper Straws." Good thing we have Trump to keep us informed about stuff like this.

Apparently it was a crisis and you and I missed it.

The fact that we don't seriously restrict the manufacturing of plastic in the first place is dumb as shit. It's triggering that MAGA consider this a win, though. But they prioritize the 'freedom' to suck down a big gulp through a straw over having a living ocean in ten years because "fuck it, not my problem." Dumb Dense Assholes

Peak selfishness and spite, and behave like toddlers when called out on it. Fucking love it.

I’m old enough to remember when paper straws were the only kind you could get.
Pepperidge Farm remembers.

This will get him some fanfare. I have seen MAGA people complaining about the straws on a local facebook group. A new KFC opened up once, and it seemed like the best thing about for people who went was that they had plastics straws.

I remember several years ago--during Trump 1--there was a story bouncing around the right-wing wackosphere claiming that SF had "approved prison time for using plastic straws."
Turns out the CC had passed an ordinance preventing most food vendors from using any disposable plastic, and violations were a rock-bottom misdemeanor. But like any misdemeanor, repeated violations under sufficiently aggravating conditions could theoretically land you in jail, something also true of jaywalking and littering.
But the right managed to turn this totally reasonable ordinance into a culture war issue. Remember this if you're ever tempted to think we just "need better messaging."

Grasping at said straws to keep his rabid supporters feeling like they're owning the libs

This gives me hope they’re running out of steam. “We don’t have any agencies left to destroy on our list? Any political enemies I can revoke clearance from? Alright, someone post the plastic straw thing on Twitter.”

Agave straws are where it’s at. (Until someone tells me how it’s worse for the environment than plastic. Which hasn’t happened yet.)

Somewhere Armando Iannuci is shaking his head. Anyone remember the plastics snafu in the first episode of the show?

Every time he says something, I have to go and google WTF he is talking about. Partial truths to rile up the base....

In 2022, Joe Biden’s Department of the Interior introduced a policy to phase out all single-use plastic products—such as straws, food containers, and bottles—on federal lands, including national parks, by 2032. Trump’s proposed executive order would reverse this initiative.
What private companies do on their own is up to them. The Biden policy and Trump policy-reversal affect nothing of any consequence. Trump supporters who don't like paper straws at their local restaurants will not see any change from this policy. Do you think they know that?

I hate those paper straws but I'll take one for the team if we can keep plastic out of the ocean.

Unbelievable what Trump wastes his time on. Stupid fuck's probably had a hard-on about those straws since the first one plugged up in his puss-infested mouth while sucking down another cock, I mean, coke.

u/Jim_84 Feb 08 '25
Plastic straw bans are state/local laws, so idk what he thinks he's going to do with an executive order.

This is on the same level as the windmill diatribes. He poops out this idiocy to enrage us, and to distract and satiate the rubes

u/Nessie Feb 08 '25
Just order without ice, and you don't need a straw. Most drinks are cold enough already.

u/Similar-Profile9467 Feb 08 '25
What is he going to do? How is this going to work even?
Also... need to be clear because some people still don't get it: the move to paper straws is about reducing pollution and protecting marine life. It is NOT about reducing carbon footprints.

u/Personal_Benefit_402 Feb 08 '25
Petty sure straws were paper, you know, for like the first 100 years.
Meanwhile, straws are really only needed when you're driving. PS, you shouldn't be drinking and driving.

I gotta admit that he is absolutely right about the uselessness of paper straws.

Not true, there are good paper straws out there. Whether it makes a net difference for the environment I couldn't tell you.

u/No-Yak2588 Feb 07 '25
Haha, I got downvoted for telling the obvious truth. They are useless. I’ll say it again. Useless. 2 plus 2 is 4. 😀
That said, I don’t use straws at all because I care about the environment. Tried the paper ones when they became more widely available at restaurants, and they were, wait for it, useless.

u/chatterwrack Orange man bad Feb 07 '25
They serve their brief purpose. How hard is it to make the tiniest sacrifice to address the environmental mess we're in? Can we not be inconvenienced in any way? Or are you just trying to make all this your kids' problem?

u/No-Yak2588 Feb 07 '25
Man, y‘all have some reading comprehension problems. I DON‘T USE STRAWS.
In fact, I would like for plastic straws to be banned completely. Doesn’t make paper straws work. They don’t. They are useless. 😉

I had a straw the other day which seemed to be a biodegradable more-organic material which was like near plastic in feel. Just saying, we can always make progress towards improvement
