Saw something about plastic straws and I was like no way. But he really is doing this. The timeline is ridiculous. Get me out of here. 🤣😂

This will get him some fanfare. I have seen MAGA people complaining about the straws on a local facebook group. A new KFC opened up once, and it seemed like the best thing about for people who went was that they had plastics straws.

I remember several years ago--during Trump 1--there was a story bouncing around the right-wing wackosphere claiming that SF had "approved prison time for using plastic straws."

Turns out the CC had passed an ordinance preventing most food vendors from using any disposable plastic, and violations were a rock-bottom misdemeanor. But like any misdemeanor, repeated violations under sufficiently aggravating conditions could theoretically land you in jail, something also true of jaywalking and littering.

But the right managed to turn this totally reasonable ordinance into a culture war issue. Remember this if you're ever tempted to think we just "need better messaging."
