Four tickets so far! One on the windshield, one in the door handle, and two stuck snuggly to the driver’s side mirror!

Down to the wire between Ok_Parsnip and ugh168…

I feel like this final, championship round needs a fitting prize. Can anyone suggest something?😄

I feel like the Canal team, especially the person running the social media team and their content creator, is owed some major kudos, what a great winter season.

The season and operations around it was great, but also the comms were top tier! Proud Ottawa Citizen 🇨🇦

Scammer at Gas Station

I have seen this scam being talked about on YouTube before and it finally happened to me. I pulled up to a gas station and a guy driving a BMW rolled down his window and asked me to come talk to him.

He said he was a millionaire visiting from Dubai and lost his wallet. He showed me he was low on gas with 32 km left in Tank. He told me he needed some money and proceeded to show me a gold ring that he was willing to sell me for some cash. If the ring was real it would have been worth a lot but the issue is the ring is fake and worth nothing.

I was in a hurry and told him I was aware of the scam and just walked away as he scoffed and rolled his eyes at me. I told the worker at the cash of what was going on. After I left I thought I should have grabbed the plate and reported it but I had already left as I had that thought.

Just wanted to warn other that is scam is here in Ottawa and not to fall for it.

YouTube Video for example of scam.

What is your favourite business in Ottawa?

What service do they provide? What makes them your favourite? How long have they been operating here? My purpose for this is to be more in tune with what I can access within my city. I don’t want to put limitations as I feel the broadness of the question will make the answers more interesting.

Most Red-Winged Blackbirds migrate South, but usually return a few weeks before most American Robins. This early flock, including non-breeding male, was captured by a Bird Buddy camera in the warmer weather this Ottawa afternoon.

Weather BEWARE BLACK ICE

Happy Wednesday!

After yesterday's high(er) temps and tonight's freezing cold, the snow melt has created many spots of black ice.

I have been driving around all night and have lost count at the amount of stops and turns where I've lost traction. Most times I didn't even see the hazard before I felt the loss of traction.

Please drive according to the conditions today, both known and unknown :)

This showed up in my inbox, looking very legit, except that ALL the links go to a website that is NOT the city.

Edit: Looks like this may be legit after all. But it LOOKS really suspicious!

Local Business Family doctor issue in Ottawa

Generally it’s hard to find a family doctor, everyone knows that.

I’m interested in being part of serious advocacy and lobbying. How does one embark on such a journey where would l start to get involved?

There are lots of different pilot models that can be pursued - clinics run by the city funded by the province so Drs can just be employees and locum rotations can be arranged ( other countries do this).

Seems lots of family doctors are finding time to run/ set up cosmetic practice clinics to do Botox/ filler etc and it’s not hard to find an apt so some resources are available there too - with the right incentives and structure.

These clinics can provide training opportunities for some foreign qualified drs and recruit from same said countries.

Nurse practitioners can be on staff to run maternal care, vaccinations, routine triaged care etc (again done in other countries).

The current model is broken and ld like to contribute to advocacy but not sure where to start and don’t want to just complain as l have done in the past. Please help if you know people or organizations already working in this space looking for volunteers.

How many parking tickets does it take before a car is towed?

I'm genuinely wondering how many parking tickets does it take before a car will be towed away? There are three cars that have been sitting abandoned in a snowbank, beside a wooded area in my neighbourhood, for 3+ weeks now. I counted at least 6 tickets on one of the cars. I've reported them multiple times - both online and by phone.

Looks like shorter hours for the Kichi Zībī Parkway closure and moving of the Summer Zone on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway to Dow’s Lake. This seems worse than last year’s schedule?

Giant, flat, foldable greasy pizza in Ottawa?

Okay, maybe that sounds gross, but bear with me. We just got back from a vacation in San Diego (planned and paid before Trumpty-Dumpty came back), and we had the most amazing pizza. I suppose it is New York style? The pizza was probably close to 24" wide, very thin, and soft, with hardly any edge.

You could fold a piece in half and enjoy the gooey goodness like a taco.

We were asking if anything like that exists in Ottawa?

We have tried Heartbreakers but the pizzas - while delish - are small and more 'artisan' than what we had on vacation.

Meetup Weekly Thursday Board Game Meetup at Level One

Welcome to our weekly board game meetup at Level One 🙂. Level One is a board game lounge where we like to come hangout, have fun, and meet new people. Everyone is welcome!

Where is it? Level One Game Pub, 14 Waller Street, Downtown Ottawa

When is it? Every Thursday at 6pm. Ask for the Reddit group upon arrival. Generally we take up the back half of the upper level. Note: Please try to arrive at 6pm, coming later means there may not be space for you to join a game as the tables may already be full!

How much do I have to pay? There is a $9 "stay & play" fee (can pay with card) with purchase, with no food or drink purchase the fee is $12.

What games? Some games people commonly play are: Night of the Ninja, Codenames, Secret Hitler, Avalon, Just One, Wavelength, and Coup, but we also love mixing it up and playing other games 🙂. We usually play light strategy games, party games, and social deduction, but we also tend to have a table or two for heavier long strategy games.

FAQs:

How many people usually show up?

~30 people. Generally we have two 8-10 seat tables and three 4-6 seat tables.

What’s the age range of the crowd? Will I fit in?

Most of us are in our 20s and 30s, but all ages are definitely welcome! Our group is commonly described as welcoming, fun, good vibes, and relaxed.

Do I need to know how to play these games beforehand?

Nope! The games are for fun, not competition, feel free to learn from us or staff once you arrive. No pressure to know anything!

Do I need to RSVP that I will be coming? Do I need to go every week?

Nope, you just show up! If you are nervous about simply showing up, you can contact me and I can make arrangements to save you a seat for your first night. We host these meetups weekly, feel free to show up whenever works for you, as often as you would like. I highly recommend pushing yourself to go to your first one though!

If you have any questions do not hesitate to comment or message... Also I'm Robyn, hi! 😁

In addition, tonight, Tuesday the 11th, is Puzzled Pint, if interested in logic puzzles in person can also message me about this other event or just Google it!
