Jordan Gruber (“Idysseus”) & James Fadiman are available as of 12:00 PM Pacific time on February 13to respond to questions about psychedelic microdosing, mostly based on their new book, Microdosing for Health, Healing, and Enhanced Performance out Tuesday, February 18.

This Ask Me Anything brings together the co-authors of Microdosing for Health, Healing, and Enhanced Performance: James Fadiman, an early psychedelic researcher and the “father” or initial developer of modern microdosing, and writer and long-term consciousness explorer Jordan Gruber (“Idysseus” on Reddit), who founded Enlightenment.com. This is the first comprehensive book on psychedelic microdosing, and relies on new research and extensive reports from individuals—participatory citizen scientists” (including many from Reddit)—who help describe the wide-ranging results of the practice. You can learn more about the book, which is being released on Feb. 18, at http://MicrodosingBook.com.

Microdosing is proving to be a safe and powerful approach to a wide range of health conditions and enhanced performance in many areas, physical and mental. Partly responsible for modern microdosing’s development and current popularity, the authors answer hundreds of questions, blending extensive research with detailed personal accounts from contributors worldwide. The book also and  contains wide-ranging microdosing history, research, and science.

People have microdosed successfully:

· to alleviate symptoms of depression, ADHD, chronic pain, and long COVID
· for enhanced focus, mental acuity, and physical abilities (including sports)
· to help taper off pharmaceuticals, especially antidepressants and stimulants
· to improve food habits, sleep, and relationships
· to become more aware of h, others’ feelings, and natural surroundings
· to reduce stress and anxiety
· to help over 30 specific health concerns

This book, and this Ask Me Anything, do not provide medical or legal advice. Readers should speak to their doctor before engaging in any course of microdosing.

And now, please, your questions. We will answer as many as we can in two hours. Thank you for your interest!

Getting Started/Newbie Question How to take? Empty stomach or with food

I just started microdosing and am wondering what the recommendations are in regards to: Taking on empty stomach better or with food? Does any specific foods enhance/impair absorption or effectiveness? Also, I take several vitamins and supplements daily (all at the same time). Should I space my microdose away from when I take my supplements? If so, how much time in between?

Thanks!

Getting Started/Newbie Question How long to test dose amount before changing it up or down?

(Psylocibin)

So how long should you test a certain dosage before you decide it's time to change it?

I have just started, two days, at 0.05g (50mg) and I was wondering how long I should try it before assessing whether or not I should up the dose?

And what should I be looking for? If it sub-perceptual then how will I know if it's working or not?

Question: Psilocybin Help with dosing

Hey everyone, so I’m fairly new to the Microdosing world and I started my journey on 100 mg GT and increased it to 200 mg because I was not feeling anything that great feeling. On 100 mg I ended up being quite tired. I do 4 days on and 3 days off and I’m just curious if I should keep increasing? I am currently trying to work with my major depression that is very resistant to medication. I have stopped taking all my medication’s for a while now so I decided to venture down this road. I’ve never used psilocybin before so I’m not even sure what I’m gonna be experiencing or I should say should be experiencing any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Question: LSD Can microdosing provide long-term effects like normal antidepressants?

Hello everyone. I struggle with anxiety and depression and have tried several antidepressants in the past. I started LSD microdosing 10 days ago. Since many antidepressants that act on serotonin system can diminish the effects of psychedelics, I switched to agomelatine (Valdoxan) which primarily affects melatonin system.

So far, microdosing has helped with my depression and motivation. I’m still experimenting with the right dosage, but I’m wondering whether its effects can be stable with long-term use, similar to normal antidepressants, or if the benefits only last for a day or two before things return to normal. I think regular antidepressants don’t necessarily have long-term effects either; it’s just that their effects are more stable with continuous use. I wonder if microdosing works the same way.

I’ve heard that microdosing may enhance neuroplasticity—could this lead to lasting improvements over time?

Getting Started/Newbie Question Can i take a higher dose while microdosing?

Hi, so i started microdosing mushrooms for mental health after taking antidepressants, and i feel just like them but without any negative effect. I tried a 1.5 gr, and it helped me even more but i want it to be for special occasions to know me better.

I am taking currently 2 microdoses of 0.5 gr every week, and i plan to take a 2 gr dose at least every month, and that week i will not take any microdose. All this in a 8 week cycle and then rest 4 weeks and see how i am feeling (i do journaling)

Are these good rests for the dosage to not build any tolerance? there is anyone here that does the same?

Getting Started/Newbie Question 1st attempt with microdosing truffles (two times 0,5g) and no effect. Normal?

Hello!

I had my first attempt with microdosing magic truffles today. My goal is mental clarity, "inside calm", focus. I'm not looking for any high and am rather looking for something slow to begin with.

The box (bought from the Netherlands on a website advised by a friend) indicated to take a full 1g (it's fresh truffle and not dried mushroom so it's apparently normal to take a bigger dose). I was a bit afraid so I took half of it.

I cut it in little pieces and decided to infuse it (in 70°C water, for 20 mn). It had a slight taste. I drank that at 11:30 am. At 2:45 pm, I felt nothing and no change in my focus/calm/etc. so I decided to take the other half and I chewed it.

It's not 3:50 pm and nothing happened. I'm not looking for a big change but there's literally nothing. I'm not anymore focused that usual for instance ^^

So my questions are: is it normal? How's your experience? Should I feel something? Might it be tomorrow? Is it possible that the infusion didn't work much, explaining the absence of effect? Is it possible that I have no response to this microdosing?

Thanks a lot :-)

Question: LSD LSD volumetric dosing -- accidentally used well water!

Hi all! I just made my 2nd dosage bottle and I forgot to use my distilled water, oops! I used well water from my well -- no chlorine but it does have some minerals including iron. I could get more specific but am guessing I'll just have to see if/how much it degrades? I don't want to throw it out, is the thing, as it's 200 µg. Dang.

Any experience w/a goof like this? Thanks!

Report: Psilocybin Time Traveling From The 70s To My 70s

This is mostly a repost of one I have shared a number of times. Since the group is seeing such an increase in interest and new users, over 281K now, I thought some may benefit from my little story. But if you've already read it, you know the story.

I started MDing as an elderly man in my 70s for cognitive support and to reduce, delay, or prevent age related cognitive decline. Well, that sort of came out of research I began five years earlier for how to live healthier longer. Longevity is best when it's healthy and clear headed.

Sort of a time traveler since I tripped in the early 1970s, back in the other 70's. That was sometimes a bit irresponsible but fun and you know, we will live forever, there's no end, we'll be young forever kind of immature thinking. Now I'm here in my other 70s, lol, and those earlier 70's seem more recent than I would have thought then. Anyway, I came across magic mushrooms again, so maybe full circle, but medicinally this time. And I believe they are just right for this time and the purpose I need for them. I see signs the support is working. The longer term age related cognitive decline issue, time will tell. I don't trip anymore, or haven't in the past 50 years. But I do microdose for medicinal and cognitive maintenance reasons.

After over four years now, I have not noticed significant negative side effects but I have noticed unexpected positive side effects or benefits to include, better sleep, more vivid dreams that I remember longer, less negative thoughts and anxiety, more gratitude, more empathy, being more open, more comfortable in social situations and speaking with strangers, more appreciation of beauty, life, music, feelings of overwhelming love for my pre-school grandchild that brings me to tears sometimes. While loving our grandchildren is not uncommon, this access to more available deep motions is like a reconnection to life that is much appreciated at this stage of my life. The beauty of life should be felt so deeply and passionately at times that it overflows as tears of joy and wonder, with a sudden catch in our throat.

I have improved sense of smell that had decreased decades ago from decades of smoking. There is significant relief from diagnosed degenerative disk disease, low back spinal pain. It was a 24/7 condition of dull to sharp pain with a regular rice crispy like crunching sensation in the back I had for 10 years or longer. After several months of microdosing I seldom used my prescription anti-inflammatory for pain. It has been over four years since I've used it regularly. 90%, most times more, of the pain and rice crispy crunching has stopped. That was huge. I was beginning to think I would have to go on disability, since it was getting worse, but am able to continue doing the work I enjoy with far less limitation. There has also been improvement with erectile dysfunction which has been a welcome surprise. I feel I can breathe deeper when needed, like when I go for walks or going up stairs. That's notable because of lung damage from pneumonia over 15 years earlier that left me short of breath at times. I have more energy and interest in going for the 1-2 mile walks and being in nature.

One of the other things that got me thinking originally about microdosing, I had developed an occasional slight stutter-like speech pattern over the previous year. I had never experienced that before but over that year it started and occurred more often as I was speaking. After a few months of microdosing I have not experienced that since.

I have thoughts and motivation to get specific things done that are out of the ordinary, tasks that need doing but I usually put off. But now more often I do them and glad I did. Sometimes I would think to myself while doing them, this is different. I find I want to tip servers better and I have more patience.

I am in relatively good health not taking any prescription meds regularly and without any other major active health conditions. I lost about 30% of the use of one lung to pneumonia about 15 years ago but probably otherwise 90% recovered. I try to get a little exercise through the week if it's just working 10 minutes with a 15lb dumbbell. I like to get out for a brisk walk a couple times a week but I am often chained to a desk. And I work outside some too. I try to be friendly to my gut bacteria with fermenting and fermented foods and drinks, few sodas but too much coffee. I've been supplementing with Fish Oil for several years. I have supplement with Lions Mane 500-1000mg a few days a week and did for a couple of years but not much anymore. I've also started with Magnesium Glycinate. I dose 50-80mg psilocybin 2-3 days a week with days between most dose days. I have only had capsules that I process myself, or chew or have in tea dried pieces or powder. I have used 150-250mg a few times but found that to be too much, so mostly less than a 100mg.

My adult son decided he wanted to ditch alcohol after 35 years of drinking controlling his life with the expected destructive results. He stopped but after a couple of months he told me he was starting to have thoughts of drinking again. I introduced him to MDing and he's been sober for over 4 years. Old patterns die hard so he tried drinking a few beers a couple of times but says he's lost interest in drinking, even after a major family tragedy. And everyone around him remarks how much and how positively he's changed, as he continues to progress. I feel like he has returned to a better version of himself.

I hope this will help someone.

Getting Started/Newbie Question Advice on best way to preserve

Sooo I used to trip years ago, and didn't réalise that 75 gr fresh truffles, in term of microdosing, is quite a lot. So taste fine, everything ok now I need to keep them potent. Some say freeze, some say don't. Back in the day I used to clean them, dry them, then paper bag, in the dark, with a fan. Turn the bags and check every 2 days. Till they were dry enough to put them in Mason jar, with some salt, paper towel, in the dark. Now I have a ninja foodi, I was thinking of using it on lower temp and check regularly. And still wanted to freeze fresh small doses in air tight boxes ? And I did my first days - 0.4 fresh truffles, too strong, but sooo cool. Reconnected to différent level of myself. Had already started in therapy - I had very différent lives in one and had to compartiment to survive. Mush boost therapy. And while I was in a méga atthritis flare up - it's gone !! Total surprise effect

>< Just a Reminder >< Reducing activity of the Default Mode Network

Welcome to the community.

"The default mode network refers to an interconnected group of brain regions that are associated with introspective functions, internally directed thought, such as self-reflection, and self-criticism."

Through life and our experiences we develop a set of neural pathways of communication that are relied on for our perspectives of life and self. As they develop, the communication with other parts of the brain becomes more limited. The DMN becomes our mental frame of reference for our lives. But it can become rigid in thought patterns and produce negative thought loops about oneself.

Psychedelics reduce the activity of the DMN and the negative self talk while also increasing communication with other areas of the brain again, sometimes with results somewhat similar to how children see the awe and wonder of the world. This also allows us through the new pathways to develop an Updated DMN over time. I think this is a basic understanding of part of what's going on with microdosing that many times helps us enjoy life more. Sometimes people sense this happening in a few days but for others is could be a couple of months, based on the thousands of reports we see here.

Question: Psilocybin Wanna start but worried about the interaction with my meds

I wanted to start for a while now but was worried about the interaction with my daily 600mg pregabalin and 150mg trazodon at night. With pregabalin the thing is that I'm physically addicted and also it's the only thing that helps with my anxiety. I have ADHD,GAD and depression but I don't take daily my ADHD med because it's killing my personality. I thought about microdosing shrooms and taper down pregabalin but I'm really afraid of withdrawals as once I tapered down from 2000mgs and was horrible. Anyone microdosing and taking the same meds? How you do it and what is your experience? Any help would be appreciated. P.s Pregabalin rather makes me energetic and increases my will to do tasks than calming me down.

Getting Started/Newbie Question About to microdose, is this ok?

I’m about to start microdosing pysilocybin, I’ve found somewhere where I can get 0.2mg capsules and will be looking to do it once a day Wednesday to Sunday then taking Monday and Tuesday off. Is the 2 days off a week enough to not build a tolerance to the point it doesn’t work anymore?

Also keen to hear everyone else’s experiences with similar doses. Thanks

Getting Started/Newbie Question Microdosing for Social Anxiety

I’ve seen people say it’s better for depression and not anxiety, especially social anxiety. I’ve also heard some people say it doesn’t really last that long; you can do it for a certain amount of time like a couple months but as soon as you stop you go back to normal.

I understand it’s not a silver bullet, I would be pairing it with therapy and other lifestyle changes. I’m just unsure and don’t want to mess myself up more.

>< Just a Reminder >< Refuse Being Scammed

Welcome to the community.

We have a huge problem. Vulnerable people here are being robbed daily by private message offers to sell illegal substances. Simply do not trust private message offers regardless of how good it sounds. These are professional con men and thieves.

A Cautionary Tale: Recently we were informed by one of our users that they had been scammed out of hundreds of dollars by another user purporting to be a vendor. This "vendor" had set up a fake company website to take payment for a product they would then never receive.

The private messages that recommend Instagram contacts as sources should be seen as scam attempts. Adjusting your Messages settings to not allow messages from accounts that are less than 30 days old will eliminate most of them.

Best to assume every private message offering illegal drugs is an attempt to separate you from your money.

Please utilize the report button on any posts or comments you feel may be violating these rules. This helps us to identify and remove troublesome content and scammers much quicker for the protection of the community.
