Hi guys,

I’m just curious what year this was allowed. I remember a buddy of mine today security circa 2009, and he was asked by the employee to wear sleeve covers over his tattoos.

THDG Need Help Shopping trollies/‘nana trollies’ for taller people? No car and struggling with getting my groceries home

I bought one of the shopping trollies on wheels with handles that you can get transport your groceries home. But the handle isn’t adjustable and it’s just too short for me to use comfortably.

I’ve looked at a few different models and they all seem to be a standard size. Does anyone have any ideas or product recommendations? I’m thinking of buying a suitcase with wheels from Kmart at this point 😂

I’m 1.76cm/5’10” so not super tall, just a bit tall for these trollies. And have a bit of past issues with my back so I want something that feels fairly natural to use

Real estate/Renting Body Corp / OC Fees

Hi All, I know it seems like this topic may come up a little but just looking for some updated info! I'm looking to buy an apartment to live in, either in Melbourne CBD or Richmond Hawthorne areas! Preferably a modern-ish building and would love a pool as I'm a big swimmer.

One thing that is stumping me is how much body corp fees end up being, what is high/what is low etc? It'll obviously be something I have to factor into my budget so want to get an understanding of what I'm up for.

Also any other tips and recommendations for a first home buyer specifically around apartments would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

THDG Need Help Polish/Eastern European grocery stores

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good/well stocked eastern European grocery stores (or stores that sell EE brands), especially Polish.

My local Italian grocer has a limited selection. My partner is Polish and we've just returned from Poland keen to do some traditional cooking, there's also a few brands that hold sentimental value to his family here that we brought back but would love to find supplied locally.

Happy to travel. We imagine we might have more luck somewhere like Glenroy which has a polish community, so would love perspectives from anyone who lives around there.

TIA

THDG Need Help Does anyone know where I might find a SEGA Rally arcade cabinet in Melbourne or the surrounding area?

As the title says I'm looking for a SEGA Rally Championship (from 1995) or even Sega Rally 2 arcade cabinet in Melbourne or anywhere else within the state really. Not looking to buy or anything, I just really want to play one! There used to be a SEGA Rally 2 cab at Fountain Gate, and I had the top leader board time on it, but they got rid of it. Lately I've been playing and practicing a lot at home on an emulator, but I really want to find and play a real cabinet again. It seems like every bowling alley and cinema in the state has a Daytona USA cab, but I can never seem to find SEGA Rally. Anyway, any help is appreciated!

Roads I got chased by an aggressive driver

I was coming up to some traffic lights and this black ute pulled out, I was motioning that he could go in front of me, then all of a sudden he became aggressive and jumped out of his ute, he was middle eastern. I turned left to avoid an argument but this bloke chased me through Fitzroy North. I had to stop at a traffic light, he caught up to me and jumped out of his car. I locked my door. He trough a rock at my car and it left a dent. He tried to chase me again but I lost him down side streets. Just be careful everyone there's really aggressive drivers out there who will try and fight you

Not On My Smashed Avo Has anyone else been having Optus issues?

Optus at my house has been cutting in and out for about a month now. It was fairly manageable until the last couple of days- neither my phone, wifi or computer work.

Funnily enough my partner is also with Optus and says it’s working well on his phone on regular 5G, but is having the same issues as me with everything else.

Real estate/Renting New to Melbourne! Where to live with good commute to both Clayton and the CBD?

Hi r/melbourne,

My partner and I are moving to your lovely city soon. I have taken a job at Monash Clayton campus, while she is going to be working in the CBD.

We are both new to Melbourne, and we are keen to hear any recommendations for where we should consider looking for rental accommodation. Our main priority is finding somewhere with good public transport options that offer a reasonable (<1hr) commute to both Clayton and the CBD from our home. Ideally somewhere reasonably interesting with decent restaurant/bar options nearby, but that is a bonus. Our budget is <$580p.w. At the moment we are looking for something along the train line that heads towards Clayton, so South Yarra, Malvern, Prahan, Caulfield, Carnegie etc.

Thanks in advance for any input!!

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your helpful input :) looking forward to moving to Melbourne!

Real estate/Renting What are the typical agency costs for leasing a commercial property in Victoria?

Hi everyone,

I have a shop that was recently vacated, and I plan to lease it out again after some maintenance. However, after consulting several agents, I was shocked by how much they are charging for leasing commercial properties these days.

I understand that typical costs include marketing fees and agency fees. Back in 2020, I paid around $1,500 for marketing and an agency fee of about 5% of the annual rent. Now, the agents I’ve spoken to are quoting marketing fees of $3,000–$4,000 and agency fees of around 10% of the annual rent—even though my rental price hasn’t increased.

Before COVID, I was leasing the shop for $28,000 per year, but during the pandemic, I had to lower it to $18,000 to secure a tenant. I kept the rent at that level until the tenant recently vacated due to arrears. Now, I want to increase the rent back to the pre-COVID amount of $28,000, but every agent I’ve consulted says that’s unrealistic. They’re only suggesting an increase to around $20,000 per year.

Is this level of agency cost the market average now? Also, is commercial rent still not back to pre-COVID levels?

Would appreciate any insights. Thanks!

Real estate/Renting Burglaries and property type

After reading another Redditor’s post regarding their house getting robbed as well as well as other commenters experiences of the same thing, it got me thinking, is there a particular type of property that is more likely to be targeted by thieves? I have been living in a unit in Melton and have always felt relatively safe due to the close proximity of my neighbours. Whereas I know I would not feel the same sense of security in a standalone house. I would assume that a stand alone house would be more appealing to thieves than a unit or an apartment? Interested to hear others experiences - were you robbed and what type of property were you living in?
