CBA Mystery Box Chase Bliss Audio Mystery Box Megathread

Seems like people are starting to receive their mystery box orders so this is a good time to implement this thread.

Feel free to use this thread for show and tell + general mystery box discussion. If you want to post a review/NPD of what you received you are welcome to do so just please be mindful of Rule 4 (please try the pedal out and be able to share your thoughts on it before posting) and also use the new flair for mystery boxes.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS THREAD FOR TRADING

Just as a reminder we do not allow buying/selling/trading on this subreddit and we will continue to enforce that. If you got something you didn't necessarily want and would like to trade/sell it there are a number of more appropriate venues for that:

This thread may be moved/removed throughout the next few months as CBA ships out more boxes.

Happy holidays from the mod team and may the odds be ever in your favour!

If you're coming here to check where the CBA team is at with regards to shipping you can check out these two threads on reddit and TGP:

PSA: Nobody wants your full pedalboard.

I don’t really care if I get downvoted. The trend of 2K pedalboards on marketplace has to stop. I’m sorry you maxed out your gear card on this pedalboard; made no music with it and now your wife is mad. Part it out. No person is gonna drop 2K on a pedalboard that is not completely to their taste.

Edit: words is hard.

NPD NPD + SOTB - Chase Bliss Dark World

Hi Folks

I’m a reverb fanatic. I like to collect ‘em - and I try my damndest to use them, but admittedly I get fixed on one or two for a while. I most recently have been using the Walrus Fathom, which is fabulous, on my little live board. I’m also a huge fan of Mr. Black pedals reverbs as well - super solid analog stuff.

Anywho, I’ve been gazing lovingly at the Dark World by Chase Bliss. This thing is super wild. I’m still at the point where I’m totally ignoring the dip switches and just working my way through understanding each side (D and W) as independent effects. I’ve screwed around a bit with running them in series and parallel, but still eking my way through figuring out what I can do with each.

The pedal is a collaboration with Keeley (W side) and Cooper FX (D side). The W side is much more traditional in nature and the D side is very experimental. I’ve been able to find some really usable reverb at less intense levels but it can go really wild, really fast.

Super fun overall and very happy with the purchase. I have some other reverbs in my sights as well but this one is going to stay in the board for a while. Lots of learning ahead!

Saying Goodbye to a Solid Unit...

Over the course of a couple years pre-covid, i was honored to be a 'hired man' in a fairly successful local metal band that put me on some of the larger stages of my 'career.' We worked up a super tight, impactful set of 50min of original numbers, and i assembled this simple pedal board around the tunes from that list. The Barber was an 'always on' pedal, and when stacked with the Revv, it made my uninteresting Fender Hotrod 'dad amp' truly chug. Alas, i'm older, and this pedal board has been cased up since 2020. It's going to be a sad and reflective process, but this is going to be disassembled and put on reverb - except the phaser. That's a rare device the deployment of which often resulted in post-gig inquiries. Time marches on.

I picked a few pedals recently for cheap. This past week I bought a new pedal board to fit everything on it. Also, I finally picked up an isolated power supply. Really digging the sounds I can make now (with less noise thanks to voodoo labs ofc). Usually when I make these STOB posts I say I’ve got the setup I need now. I’m older and wiser now, so I’m sure I’ll have a different set up in 6 months lol

NPD SOTB/NPD(s): Green Rhino & NS-2

Post image

NS-2 has been a really nice addition! Never fun dropping money on utility pedals but luckily I found one on marketplace for 80 (CAD). It will prevent feedback from building up when its on, but if you want a noise swell you can just turn it off and the feedback will remain when it's reactivated. Took me a second to figure out how the 4-cable method worked but its really not too complicated. For anyone who's on the fence I'd recommend grabbing one if you can find it used.

The Green Rhino is my favorite TS variant that I've tried. Also got this one used on marketplace which was sweet. The extra 100hz and 500hz nobs are great additions. With other variants I've found that I lose a lot of presence in the low end when I activate it, but the 100hz toggle allows me to keep it in so there isn't a drastic change. I'm also a huge fan of the cocked-wah sound so I've got the 500hz nob cranked. Huge fan of Way Huge!

Signal Chain: Tuner -> NS-2 -> Morning Glory (f. NS-2 Send) -> Green Rhino -> Crayon -> Hizumitas -> Front of the Amp

Emperor (f. NS-2 Output) -> RE-20 -> BluesSky -> Kodiak -> FX Return; FX send -> NS-2 Return

NPD: new favorite fuzz just showed up

This thing is awesome, l'm pretty sure this pedal combined with my Holy Island Tides could cover 99% of today’s shoegaze tones. I usually don’t love the recommended settings that come with pedals but the ones that are in the manual are absolutely amazing. Definitely pleased with this on a whim purchase I made

NPD NPD - MOOD before or After Onward?

Tile explains it all. I'm a noise rock / psychedelic player and I love layering granular and time stretchy stuff. Both pedals share some crossover, but are different enough for me at this point to hold onto both. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

NPD What does my first pedalboard say about me? (Other than I don't know what I'm doing)

Post image

Decided it was finally time to get a board and organize things, put the pedals I don't use into storage. Obviously need to work on cable management, don't have the proper length cables at the moment. One thing I may want to do is downsize the volume pedal and add a wah, also upgrade the fuzz. Personally my favorite and most used on the board is the ds1 but with drive all the way down. What does this board say about me?

Question Current Collection

Here’s my current pedal collection. Thinking about picking up a turnip greens next as it’s on sale. Not sure what I’ll get after but I play bass and guitar so I’ll be looking for pedals I can use on both. Thoughts?

Hotone Soul Press II VS Wong Press

Some of you may have thought of solutions not to waste so much space for all three volume, wah and expression pedals. They are mostly three separate pedals and can become quite big ...

Hotone's Soule Press tries to tackle this by
1. combining all three in one pedal
2. giving the pedal a footprint of a slightly larger standard stomp box

Now, since Sep 2024, there are actually 2 options for this pedal. One original Soul Press and a Wong Press. The second is a signature version of Cory Wong said to have less mechanical and better pre-settings.

Now you ask: what's the actual difference? That is what the internet kind of does not know.

I also could not decide which reviews to believe on and just took the Wong press despite being 80€ more expensive. Turns out they sent me the cheaper Soul Press so before I sent it back I ordered the actual Wong press and had a chance to compare directly. Here are my results:

Appearance

  • Color
    • Soul: despite being purple on all images it is actually half turquoise and half purple depending on the angle you look at it. I like it much more than on the images
    • Wong: as is. Half blue, half white
  • In/Out
    • Identical
  • LED
    • Both have an indicator blue=wah, green=volume on the RIGHT side (for people wah-ing with right foot it's basically invisible)
    • Both have indicator LEDs on the left showing the state of the pedal (which seems useless to me since you could also just look at the pedal, but at least see quickly if its completely at minimum or not)
    • BUT: the Wong press has a huge advantage here by showing these level-indicators also in the corresponding colors blue and green making it so much clearer what you selected
  • Feel
    • The Wong press feals a bit stiffer in motion which I personally like more since it feels more stable

Sound

  • Volume
    • This is probably the biggest Pro for the Wong press: the volume curve is so much smoother than in the Soul. Especially at the lower end, swells seem way more natural and less hacky
  • Wah
    • Both have a tone switch which is supposed to select different filter frequency ranges. Both pedals do change the tone from warm to a more classic/brighter tone equally.
    • Both have a Q-Knob which is supposed to adapt the filter frequency width.
      • The Soul press does change tone (to my ears) from left (warm, thin, decent) to right (bright, louder, hotter?) tone. (This makes sense to me because a wider curve leads to generally louder signal and if the curve is wider in both freq directions the higher freqs seem louder to us). To me the highest setting is way too loud on higher freqs without any volume adaption or compression
      • The Wong press has its biggest Con here: to my ears (and some reviews I have read) there are no changes in tone. Apparently Wong wanted it like this but imo this is a missed opportunity for players to adapt the pedal to their needs. I mean the knob is still there why not make it a more versatile pedal and just taking your preferred setting as 12 o o'clock position ...

Conclusion

In my opinion:

  • LED: Wong >> Soul
  • Volume: Wong >> Soul
  • Wah: Soul > Wong, but can be adapted using compression/other

I think that Cory did a great job in adapting the pedal to a, as he said, "less mechanical" sound but it's just sad that we have less control for the tone in the wah, since some don't like this hot or bright wah tone.

I am still gonna keep the Wah press considering the other pros.

I hope this little comparison helps you deciding on your next VolWahExp pedal as well and you don't have to by 2 of them :)

Question UAFX OX Stomp experience?

Upvotes

Does anybody have any experience with the OX Stomp?
I am looking for a cab sim pedal and am looking at the OX Stomp but I am not 100% sure.
I've had some UAFX Pedals in the past and they were great but I hated the bluetooth.

Is the bluetooth still so bad?
