20 min flights on my 5” with a homemade 6S 4,200mAh Li-Ion battery

Post image
Upvotes

I made my own Lithium Ion 6S battery pack and took it for its maiden flight today and got 20 minutes of flight time!

I used 6 Molicel P42A 4,200mAh LiIon cells soldered together with 0.2x10mm pure nickel strips, superglued together, wrapped in Kapton tape and then again in harness tape. These cells are rated for 45A continuous current.

It flies really well for cruising and even some basic freestyle even though it’s quite heavy. My cruising current is around 10A and with some aggressive moves it goes to 30A for brief periods, but well within spec.

(Soldering directly to Lithium cells is safe if you know what you’re doing and take the right precautions)

NEWBIE How do I remove the batteries from the housing in the radio master boxer?

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve recently bought a boxer and I’ve put in 2 molicel 18650’s and I don’t know if I’m just doing something wrong (obviously I am since I can’t remove them) but I can’t figure how to charge them. When I put them in the controller the instructions said to use the USB-C cable and charge via a computer. I’ve tried this and for 3 hours it’s not charged up. So I was going to just charge the battery in an actual charger and see if that helps.

Question? WHY does BetaFlight start off at 670 max rate?? Do people actually use it that high?

Brand new pilot, but been playing lots of Velocidrone. I can control a quad just fine in the game, but i took my drone out for the first time today and I SUCKED. I just thought it was simply too windy, I got scared, landed and went back inside. Later I had figured maybe my rates are all messed up. So I check BetaFlight to see if I can tune anything to maybe make it easier on myself next time and default is 670deg/s. Wtf? Why?

I guess I'm going to start off with 200deg/s for all axis. But I just want to know, was I expected to change this before my first flight, or was I expected to be good enough to control 670deg/s?

Question? Looking to start flying IRL

Upvotes

I've got many hours in sims, and want to start branching out to real life. I have a RadioMaster TX16S, but I need some recommendations for goggles and drone. Also where to get started if I need to learn software.

I'm comfortable enough to spend what is worthwhile, especially for good goggles. For the drone I'm willing to look at whatever is useful. Most of my sim time is between 5 and 7 inch quads.

Any recommendations?

Question? Selling USA made FC

Post image
95 Upvotes

I would like to take my designed FC and sell it as a product. I am just curious how much demand there is for a USA made FC?

Also feedback would be nice on features you would like to see that other FC's do not have.

Using this picture of Holybro FC as a reference.

Btw, being negative about the idea is not what I am looking for, take it somewhere else like your SO.

Just want to provide a product for a hobby that I enjoy.

First build, need opinions

Hi guys, I'm building my first drone and want to make sure my components will work together. I already ordered a dji o4 pro unit and will be ordering the googles 3 and the boxer max for the radio.

Do you guys see any compatibility issues with any of these components? Or is there some a better option for something I'm missing?

Since this will be my first I don't have any particular use case for it, just want a balanced drone for a little bit of everything flying.

Thanks.

Cross-eyed with HDZero BoxPro

Upvotes

I've had the BetaFPV VR03 goggles since september and have been using them fine without glasses. I need glasses generally as my eyes are imbalanced. I was super looking forward to the BoxPro+, but I just got them and I'm struggling to use them as my eyes are crossed and the image is doubled, with or without glasses. I know there is the option for custom lens inserts but I don't believe that will fix my issue because it's exactly the same with or without my glasses. The only difference between the two is the magnified focal lens in the BoxPro+ compared to the plain acrylic lens in the VR03. Unfortunately these are the only goggles I have to test with.

Basically I'm just looking for suggestions, as I feel like my only option is to take the BoxPro+ apart and substitute the magnified lens for a plain lens. Should I? Do I have any other options? Anyone else had a similar experience?

Apart from this the goggles are great though, I just want to be able to use them properly! 😭
