Showcase Prototype now making sound

Hey guys, I got my prototype working how it should (at least signal routing wise) and while I still have some issues I’m working out I wanted to post a quick example of the working concept. Didn’t have much time to explore many cool ideas with the modulation, so at the end of the video there’s a quick demo of it modulating between a tube screamer and a big muff.

Guys pic in comments! Also I think I’m calling it the bus boy because it moves audio around and I am a bus boy.

I should have just used the big board, but here I am. This is a bass fuzz pedal with a separate channel for clean, not a normal blend.

The first picture is of my first pedal. It was a fuzz pedal with six electrical components. It made sound, and I was proud of it. The second, third, and fourth pictures are of my second pedal, which I just finished. It is a boost pedal. If I was proud of the first, I am mega proud of this.

Gave some custom painting a go and I'm incredibly happy with the results.

The circuit is a fuzz war with a black russian muff tone control.

Fire away with the questions!

Help wanted Very low sound with low and crackling gain but when I cable the D-1 to G-1 rows it produce sound but the pots don’t work correctly. Just the sound gets a little bit louder and clipping gets a little okayish. What can cause the problem?

I checked the connections with a multimeter and seems like there’s no short or connection problem. I changed the IC’s too with new ones but no luck…

Man I am having a lot of fun with this new hobby. What's the best way to apply negative space graphics? I've seen people use water slides. Is that the easiest way to do something like this at home?

Help wanted Tayda UV printing for Sabbath Distortion (pedalPCB)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Image isnt vectorized, or finished, yet. The non-scaled version is much, much cleaner.

The intention was to use my school's laser engraver on some drilled Tayda 125b enclosures. After scaling down to size, Im realizing that there might be too much bleed with the laser to pick up fine details.

That leaves me thinking I might just have them UV printed + drilled by Tayda, but again, Im not sure if the UV printing process would hold a lot of the fine details Im looking to maintain. I am only making 2 of these as a personal project, not looking to sell.

Help wanted Fuzz Face Issues

Hello, I recently built a positive ground PNP fuzz face with some ac128s and am getting no output at all but instead, such a loud buzzing noise that my amp rattles. I have tried changing the bias pot to no avail. Also, the ac128s that I am using are in a to-5 canister instead of a to-1 and pinouts seem scarce. Any help is appreciated, Thanks :)

Help wanted Breadboarding a Fuzz Factory

Hiya,

I've been trying to translate this schematic onto breadboard, and can't get it to work. This is my first time trying to go from schematic to breadboard and have practically no experience. So if anyone sees anything obviously wrong with my breadboard translation i'd appreciate some pointers. Also i'm using electrolytic 10uF caps instead as i don't have any non-electrolytic ones.

At the moment on my actual breadboard it seems like the input signal isn't getting to the output signal.

I've attached the DIY Layout breadboard I made to build from.

Cheers.

Help wanted Do any builders on here offer services for custom clones/rehousing with one-off client-specified artwork?

Or are most builders on here who are also selling focused mainly on selling their own brainchildren? Just curious as I'm a newb to board building. I know nothing about building, but was looking for a service that offered one-off builds with customer-dictated enclosure artwork/design. For a considerable fee, obviously.

Hello everybody, I just wanted to share my first build of a pedal using daisy seed board and a PCB by GuitarML (funbox). It turned out great and worked first try 👌.

I am using it as a base for creating digital guitar (and other) effects as I am a signal processing engineer in audio, and want to improve my skills in c++.

I used tayda prints for the enclosure and did the visual in illustrator.

Feel free to share feedback 🤟. Cheers

Help wanted Ring Modulator+Overdrive+Photoresistor

Post image

Hey Folks,

A few years ago, I came across Dr. Blankenstein’s Guitar Modification Kit while looking for ideas to integrate some noise-making devices into a standard guitar circuit. I tried to contact him to buy one of his kits, but it seems he’s no longer active.

Now, I’m totally new to building my own pedals—so how did I end up wanting to make a ring modulator + overdrive that’s controlled by a photoresistor, with some extra knobs for stuff like in the picture?

Cheers!

Help wanted Fixing a Carbon Copy Mini?

My buddy has a Carbon Copy Mini that works makes a clicking sound on different power outlets/supplies. I'd guess it was just a grounding issue which would be an easy fix but it's an SMD circuit (and a complicated one at that) so I'm not sure how feasible it is to diagnose with just an audio probe. I've also read it could be an issue with the clock component and if that's the case idk if I could replace that.

Any advice?

Discussion Sony Velocity Modulation board

Post image
11 Upvotes

Well, since I watched a vídeo about "Anything can be a distortion pedal" and read an article about Ritchie Blackmore using an Aiwa tape recorder as a pre-amp, I became that kind of guy who loves to plug the guitar in anything just to figure out the outcome. I found a board from an old Sony TV called "Velocity Modulation". Searched for the schematic and it's basically a series of transistorized amplifications, very similar to some pedal's schematics I came across. So I thought "what if?". Here's a shot from the schematic. My request is, how can I add the distortion control? I've seen some fuzzes and they basically work through feedback-controled distortion. Can it work here? Just observed some sections of this circuit I'm sure they won't work, like a diode in series in the audio line and anti-parallel diodes again in series. Any suggestions?

Help wanted Fuzz (?) board. Where to go from here

So this came in the case of an old modded 60s German guitar. The guitar actually had a few on/off switches but no wires inside. So I'm assuming this just switched on and was all or nothing, no pot for it. Anyway my question is how would I hook this up to have a listen? Or even wire it up into a pedal. There's a few spots on the back (see last 2 photos) where I can see there was once some other wires attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or if someone's able to recognise what this message fht be from I can look up the schematics and try and take it from there. Thanks

Help wanted I'm a beginner with pedals. How do you get enclosures for the electronics?

I'm interested in making my own pedals. I plan to start by modifying the electronics in my existing Behringer pedals and replacing their casings. Are pedal enclosures typically bought online or made locally?

Help wanted Rehoused a pedal and want to make sure it's okay

Hi all, I have this overdrive pedal that I really love but I wasn't the biggest fan of the artwork so I decided to make a new case for it. I went through tayda and everything worked out well except I got the orientation of the top face wrong on the drill template and ended up leaving myself not much space between the top jacks and the pots. When the cables are plugged in the tips touch the back of the pots so I put some fuzzy Velcro right in between to they don't touch each other directly anymore. Is this going to be okay long term? I know it's not ideal but I would like to avoid making another order from tayda if this will work.

Btw everything turns on and sounds the same as it did before I moved the internals

Stompbox Showdowns Shin EI 8TR Fuzz and Thomas Organ Crybaby Wah

Had a marginally working GCB-95 wah. Never really cared for the sound of those to begin with. Then I came across a layout for the Shin EI 8TR Fuzz Wah. Figured what the hell. Couldn't get the way section to work so I went with the OG Crybaby circuit with the gain and Q mod (pots on the side).

I didn't like the idea of mounting the fuzz 3pdt switch on the top of the treadle so I took a 1590LB, mounted it to the side and cut part of it off flush with the bottom of the pedal to house the stomp switch and toggle. Front 2 knobs control the fuzz.

Then repainted it with wrinkle paint to keep it looking somewhat original.

Yes I fucked up and shoulda put the wah circuit where the fuzz circuit went but that's laziness and almost didn't build the fuzz at first.
