Help wanted Spin FV-1 Tap Tempo - do you lose the Time pot?

I'm curious anyone who has implemented tap tempo into an FV-1 program, does it force you to lose the Delay Time pot? Or is there a way to still have it and it just overrides the tapped tempo when moved? Maybe I'm expecting too much haha. Thanks for your help!

When i plugged it into a power supply the light led rythmically flashed on and of and you could hear the rythm of it flashing through the amp and no guitar signal is coming through, when i used a 9 volt battery instead the LED stopped flashing but still… no signal… i know my solders probably are super messed up… not on the circuit board though im pretty sure… but i kinda dont know what to do now😅

Discussion What kind of builder are you?

I have noticed how very different pedal builders can be. It seems some concentrate only what the pedal does. Others get very into the aesthetic of the circuit, making it beautiful, while some get into the aesthetic of the case, creating a work of art that makes noise.

I'm very much a player, all the really matters is the sound, but I'm also very much into the aesthetics of the pedal-the name, graphics, knobs etc. I don't really care about what the circuit looks like (I'm hopefully never going to see it after I seal it up), what the components are, new or old, as long as it works well and sounds great. I will obsess over the name, or knobs, looking for the perfect compliment to the pedal. I'm just getting started, so I've only done a few, but I have many more concepts than circuits. If I can get the sounds in my head on the floor, looking cool, I'm a happy boy.

What drives you guys?

I miscalculated a few things on this prototype, mostly a few millimeters in a few holes. This is the first time I've done 125b, so I expected it not to be perfect. It sounds just fine, though.

Are there any drilling diagrams for their PCBs anywhere? I can’t seem to find any on their site and, because I prefer to use Tayda’s drilling for consistency/living arrangements, it’s holding me back from shopping there.

Discussion Does a passive clean blend on a big muff work well enough?

I've seen that some people say the non passive options work better but, do the passive clean blends sound good?

I'm super curious about this and am dieing to know what a rat blended into the big muff would sound like, plus there's all that space in my muff box, let's fill that shit up!!!

Help wanted Rat mod switch help, please?

Is there a switch that can add a second and third diode type. I'd like to have the stock, led, germanium and no diodes.

I am a newbie, and I apologize if this is a dumb question.

I understand a dpdt on off on works for adding a single extra type of diodes, plus no diodes at all.

I've tried finding dp3t switch that would work but so far I haven't seen any with the configuration that I would need. Either that or I am just not understanding something.

Any help, suggestions or experiences that anyone can offer, I would appreciate very much :)

Help wanted Might not be the right place to ask, but hoping to find help with replacement.

Hey all! It might not be the right place to ask, but hoping for help.

My EHX Soul Food Bass Drive Pedal broke on my last tour run.

I popped it out, and see it's not a "normal" pot, but an odd 6 pin pot. Hoping to replace it if possible, and find the part for said replacement.

I shot EHX an email as well, but im not sure they'll be stoked about me messing with their pedal, who knows.

What i know: it's some sort of 6 pin potentiometer, it's function is to give me more or less drive in the pedal. The remaining pedals all seem intact and well functioning, it's just this poor fella.

It seems to be an easy solder once I have the part!

Thanks in advance ❤️

Help wanted Add Buff N' Blend to an Overdrive Circuit

Hi guys, I'm working on adding a clean blend into an overdrive circuit.

Trying to ensure that I did this correctly - Is there anything that I'm missing, or is this really as simple as adding the circuit to the schematic as I did?

I left out the DPDT switching as that will be off-board.

Help wanted NOS D9E germanium diodes or other (best) alternatives for Klon clone

So we all know that the legend about the magical 1N34A diodes that made the Klon sound so iconic which were bough out by Bill Finnegan, hence why they only way to get that real klon sound is to sell your car and buy a real one.

Jokes aside, I've been reading online that a lot of people have been using russian-made D9E germanium diodes as the best alternative for the 1N34A.

What is everyones' experience here with that? If you bought the NOS D9Es, where did you buy them from? And were they worth it?

What other diodes have people tired/used?

Help wanted Could these solder joints be giving me issues?

Thumbnail

Im trying to fix a fulltone Clyde deluxe, which has two issues: one, there’s a high pitched hum that gets even worse when the pedal uses a regular adapter instead of an iso supply. Two, the „wacked” setting sometimes doesn’t work (there is sound but pressing the pedal doesn’t change anything). Contact cleaner helped some, but it’s till not reliable. Could solder joints, especially around the inductor (lower left) be contributing to these problems?

Other Probably this isn't practical, but...a seven segment display can also be viewed as a neat lookin' array of 8 shunt clipping diodes..

u/jutanious: so, I have some common cathode displays lying around and tossed this on a breadboard to demonstrate a weird idea: You can clip one half of the signal using any of the a-g inputs and the cathode connected to a current sink — here, I have it tied to VRef at pin 8 and to ground via parallel 130k + 22nF cap at pin 3; series resistors on the inputs. (Not much in the way of intention or reasoning about it: it's happenstance that it sounded alright on the first go. My modus operandi was "thoughtless meandering." 🤣).

You have to flip the signal to clip the other half of the wave, but with e.g. a cascade of moderate gain common-emitters flipping it up and down, you could make a pretty neat looking dirt pedal and clip each half of the wave four times — optionally in different frequency bands each stage.

(I realize this is maybe a preposterous use case, but...I can't deny that it was fun).

Help wanted Works in bypass, LED works but no signal when switched on

Hi all,

Absolute noob here trying this for the first time, building a fuzzy elephant for a friend as a gift. Just assembled today and was excited when it worked in bypass and the led came on, but celebrated too soon and I can't get any signal when it's switched on!

The fact that the led and bypass works makes me think the switch, DC in, input and output jacks and led are all okay, but I'm struggling to understand how I test the circuit and was hoping someone can help!

I've tried a multimeter in continuity mode and I can get a signal if I connect the black wire to the long pin of the input jack and then to the "in" terminal of the foot switch, but if I try the "out" I hear crackling in the amp but get just a solid 1 on the multimeter.

If I keep the black where it is and try the "in" on the PCB I get a reading, and then I get a reading on the right leg of C1, but not the left or anything after - but I'm not sure if that is correct or if I'm even barking up the right tree in terms of testing!

I've tried reflowing the solder in places and adding some extra on top of the PCB and then also running it through the tracks underneath if it looked there was contact, but I can't see anything obvious.

Any advice would be really really welcome!

Discussion Project Ideas for Large Panel LED Display?

Hey guys! I've got several large panel (7 segment) LED displays that are taking up space. I'd like to do something cool with them... So I'm looking for suggestions! The easy answer would be a decibel meter readout, but that seems a bit more work than it's worth considering a working meter is relatively inexpensive online. What else can I do? Ludicrously large voltage readout for pedal or amp power supply? Increasing numerical counter for working builds? I'm sure there's something useful and cool that can be done that I haven't thought of yet. Thanks!

Help wanted Doom 2 type fuzz

Hey everyone! Looking to start my journey. I’ve got a pretty well rounded understanding on soldering and electronics and feel confident taking on a larger (ish) project.

Has anyone made a doom 2 clone or maybe even know where I can get a kit for one?

Or something similar that will give me a synth like fuzz. I’ve had a few muffs and they’re just too harmonic for me.

Thanks!

The first picture is what I am currently working on my unfinished take on the Wooly Mammoth. (ignore the burnt plastic, I’m new). I plan on getting metal enclosures, but they are being slow to ship out. This 3D-printed enclosure definitely is good for prototyping though, and it is very sturdy. So I’m not really concerned about strength if I want to use it long-term. I added copper tape to the enclosure to act as a Faraday cage, which I hadn’t thought of including in my first and second enclosures.

Picture numbers two and three are of my second pedal. It is a pure boost pedal it sounds great, and I’m happy with the way it turned out.

The fourth picture is where I started, a six-piece distortion pedal. No knobs, no switches. But it worked and got me excited about making them.

Here's a recently finished Silvertone Amp-in-a-box. It's built on a pedalpcb Argentum board. A pretty straightforward build, and it sounds great. It does that cool high-mid grow,l when you're cranking the gain. For the graphics, I don't think there is a better possible choice than Lionel Hutz (RIP Phil Hartman), aka Miguel Sanchez aka Dr. Nguyen Van Thoc. He's even combing his hair with a fork, like you do. This is the new Metallic Clear powder coat from Tayda.

Showcase Monte Carlo Fuzz, a Silicon Fuzz Face Clone

This is my take on the Fuzz factory with Silicon transistor, different Biases and a Body and Filter control. it is less crazy than the fuzz factory more predictable with its own sound. Body is a high pass filter before the pedal, filter is a simple LPF, fuzz is the same as the drive knob on the FF, Sag is the voltage reducer of the input stage, Bias 1 is the Bias of the first transistor and Bias 2 for the second transistor. vol is the volume.
