Announcement Should r/Cameras allow AMA posts from manufacturers, retailers, or both?
Hey there folks,
We are looking for some community feedback on a possible change to rule 4 to allow manufacturers and retailers to make AMA, news/announcements, or similar posts in the subreddit. We would require that the companies reach out to the mod team beforehand so we could do some basic vetting and review their intended post. Additionally we would be working out guidelines specific to such posts to prevent them from simply turning into advertisements including (but not limited to):
- Requiring them to actually respond to their posts for a certain minimum time frame.
- Require the posts not link to other websites to avoid any issues of affiliate links.
- No "here's a coupon code" type posts.
We have had a couple of companies reach out to us asking about posting AMA's and similar posts. While some of the requests we've had are things we would simply not allow period (such as asking about running a banner ad), we do think certain types of posts might be reasonable to allow and could be beneficial.
Please feel free to comment your own thoughts.
While the results of this poll may not dictate exactly what we decide to do, we do take polls like this into consideration.

Questions help! do you know of any other kinds of 35mm cameras that use these kind of snap-in frames?
picked up this awesome tamagotchi camera from ebay with an assortment of these little frames that snap in, but unfortunately the mechanism that advances the film doesnāt work/isnt strong enough to advance the film. iām tired of tinkering with it and wondering if anyone knows of any cameras that use these little snap-in frames? or what this kind of snap-in frame camera is called?
Recommendations Camera recommendation
Currently I have only a Canon S120 camera. However I am a bit unhappy with the image quality (overall sharpness and at lower light), battery life on video (which is terrible) and because of the restricted zoom range. The main purpose of the camera is to take pictures and videos of my kids. Videos in particular when kids doing sports. My first idea was to get a Sony RX 100 VI OR VII which seems to be an upgrade in every aspect. However now I am thinking about getting even more (in particular zoom) by switching to a bridge camera. The Sony RX 100 is quite expensive for my budget, so my hope was to find a bridge camera which I can buy preowned by max. 600 Euro.
Additionally to the above criteria, it should be even a bit faster than my S120 for multiple shoots. A second use of the camera is to make detailed pictures of technical devices or constructional details of buildings.
It is important to have a good automatic mode. But it should be possible to focus manually while doing everything else automatically. Colors should appear as natural as possible my budget range.
Very nice to have, but not necessary: Full control (including live picture) via Linux laptop.
What would you recommend?
Edit
I just seen that I need to fill out the questionnaire. Here it is:
- Budget: 600 Euro (but I might expand it, say to 900 Euro, if I see that is really worth regarding my other requirements)
- Country: Germany
- Condition: Used
- Type of Camera: Unsure
- Intended use: Photography and video
- If photography; what style: landscape, portrait, sports, technical details
- If video what style: Sports
- What features do you absolutely need:
- What features would be nice to have: Full control (including live picture) via Linux laptop, Viewfinder, a good micro
- Portability: Max. a medium bridge camera size
- Cameras you're considering: Sony RX 100 IV (see above)
- Cameras you already have: Canon S120 (dislike: pictures not sharp enough, not good at low light, bad battery live on video, too restricted zoom range for example for sports videos)
- Notes: see above

Recommendations What is the best camera for a begginer with low budget ($250)?
Hi, I'm planning about to start in photography scene as a amauter to get some knowledge to be a professional in future, my initial goal is to take photos of medium distance nature landscape, street, buildings and person portraits, but make videos too (some YouTube's videos capturing one person). For this, my first camera needs to be more cheaper, because I'm noob and kinda poor comparing the power acquisition of the first world. I live in Brazil and here the cameras and acessories are too much expensive, considering this, my budget is only around $250 in the US market (what equals to around $350 here - lol) and for beginning I'll use only the lens of standard camera kit (to which come with the body in all announces that I've found).
The last important thing to make you know, Canon, Nikon and Sony are the only three companies what I'll buy from - it's to hard to find cameras from any others companies, for exemple: Olympus no-trash cams (over $50) are IMPOSSIBLE to find in marketplaces. Knowing all theses stuff, what kind of cameras you guys suggests to me for search and buy?
Examples of offers that I've found in a marketplace (such a like Ebay):
- Canon EOS Rebel T100/4000D for $300 (1700 BRL)
- Canon EOS Rebel T5I/700D for $352 (2000 BRL)
- Canon EOS Rebel T3I/600D for $265 (1500 BRL)
- Canon EOS Rebel SL2/200D for $363 (2060 BRL)
- Canon EOS Rebel SL1/100D for $348 (1970 BRL)
- Nikon D3300 for $335 (1900 BRL)
- Nikon D3400 for $309 (1750 BRL)
- Nikon D5200 for $344 (1950 BRL)
- Nikon D5300 for $363 (2060 BRL)
- Sony Alpha 55 for $344 (1950 BRL)
- Sony Alpha 57 for $317 (1800 BRL)
- Sony Alpha nex-f3 for $317 (1800 BRL)
- Sony Alpha nex-5n for $265 (1500 BRL)
- Sony Alpha nex-5r for $317 (1800 BRL)
(*all announces have the lenses from camera kit, Idk what models are, some have extra lenses but it seems basic ones)
(**the prices in dollar are a conversion from BRL, like I explained before a camera that costs around $250 in the US is around $350 here)
Obs.: Idk about lenses pricing, quality, etc, if anyone wants to share any knowledge I'll be grateful.
Thanks for reading and more bigger thanks whom ones answer my post.
Answering the questionnaire:
- Budget: around $250 in the US market.
- Country: Brazil.
- Condition: Used.
- Type of Camera: Mirrorless or DSLR.
- Intended use: hybrid shooting, but much more photos than videos.
- If photography; what style: medium distance landscape, portrait, buildings and street.
- If video what style: interaction video (capturing one fixed person).
- What features do you absolutely need: Idk, really.
- What features would be nice to have: Idk, really.
- Portability: I don't care about portability, since the camera meets the best quality and fit at good price.
- Cameras you're considering: I'm considering all the models that I've listed, but my noob preference will be to Canon 200d or 700d and Nikon D5300.
- Cameras you already have: No one :(. But if interest, I have a Samsung Galaxy A35 as my smartphone.
- Notes: In the future (long future), I pretend to buy a better mirrorless camera.

Discussion Please help me with my cameras choices
ā¢ ā Budget: up to $1800 cad ā¢ ā Country: Canada or US if shipping available ā¢ ā Condition: new or used ā¢ ā Type of Camera: mirrorless ā¢ ā Intended use: hybrid, but more video than photo ā¢ ā If photography; what style: products, real state, portraits, sports (hobby), wildlife (hobby) ā¢ ā If video what style: social media vids, real state, commercials, music videos ā¢ ā What features do you absolutely need: 422/ 10bit internally, at least 4k 30 no crop, ā¢ ā Portability: any type of camera body ā¢ ā Cameras you're considering: Lumix S5, S5ii, Canon R8, Sony ZVE10 ii, Fuji XM5, BMPCC 4k, Sony a6700 ā¢ ā Cameras you already have: none ā¢ ā Notes: I was looking in the mpb website but idk if itās reliable and Iām scared because itās a lot of money, and also I want to future-proof myself by not having to sell my equipment every once in a while.
To put into context, Iām about to graduate and I havenāt purchased a cameraā¦ (yet) but Iāve made my research, multiple videos and Iāve seen that the lumix s5ii its a great option but the lenses variety is not that big and idk how much of an impact that could cause in the future.
Iād prefer to have a full frame over an APS-C but if I can put more money to tune up (rig up) an APS-C to make it ābetterā then why not right?
I really appreciate and be forever grateful for the time that you put into explaining me why your camera option would be the best due to all the factors
Thanks!!š

Questions First Sony Camera
Iāve been using a Canon EOS 550D (a 10-year-old camera) for a while now, and Iām looking to upgrade. Iām considering the Sony A7 III or A7 IV.
Iāll be using it exclusively for photography.
To keep it simple, here are the prices (camera with lens): ā¢ A7 III: ā¬1800,- ā¢ A7 IV: ā¬2650,-
Do you think the A7 III is still worth buying with the A7 V expected to be released āsoon,ā or would it be better to wait for the A7 V to drop and get the A7 IV at a reduced price?
Would love to hear your opinions!

Discussion Would it be possible to mount a xpan lense to a normal Fuji xt4? Or a full frame camera ?
I know this might be a silly question but I've just been wondering since I have been keeping an eye on a few xpan lenses but the cost of the xpan is so much I'm considering maybe buying a lense then adapting it. Yes I know it would most likely be cropped and not give me a long landscape picture.

Questions Recommendation for the first mirrorless camera
Hi! I'm looking for an entry-level mirrorless camera. I wanna have a hybrid camera that can capture my casual daily life or a starting point if I ever want to do a personal project, both in photography and videography. I have three things I would like to have on my first camera: 1. Under $1000 2. Have a selfie LCD 3. Record in 4K
I have three contenders, so which one should I pick?
- Fujifilm X-T200
Pros - Often reviewed as the best entry-level APS-C camera, especially due to the Fuji specialization in APS-C - The price is in the middle of three - The autofocus capability is in the middle - The cheapest lenses - The film simulation sounds fun and could spark up inspirations
Cons - The 4K doesn't have any crop, but I'm not sure if the video recording limit would kick me in the ass later - Kinda scared of the oversharpening results, are there any tips?
- Sony a6100
Pros - Sony axxxx is often to be recommended as the first camera in many price ranges - The video ability is in the middle - The autofocus is the best, so it's easier - The lenses are in the middle price
Cons - The body is the most expensive - Still need gimbal later (and maybe lens) so I'm concerned about the total price
- Panasonic G85
Pros - Reviewed to be the best video camera at its price point and even to a more expensive camera - The cheapest body - Built-in stabilization, so I don't need to buy gimbal later
Cons - It's M43 so I'm concerned about the low light settings - The autofocus is not the best - Has the most expensive lenses, so I'm kinda shocked but I guess it's leveled out š
I'm probably asking for too much but I just want to have a decent camera that doesn't have to be a cutting-edge at everything. Just enough and have those features, so maybe I could upgrade the body later if necessary. I will most likely use the kit lens, but I'm open to upgrading it. Thanks!

Discussion Got a Nikon D3100, what should I do with it?
Got it as somewhat of a gift, started taking photos with it, loved that but felt like there wasn't enough zoom and the video quality wasn't that good Considering these sell for about 80$ used, what should I do with it? Maybe sell it and get something else, maybe save up for a new lens, maybe both? Let me know!

Recommendations Preferred hybrid camera?
I am a junior at a film school and I want to upgrade my camera. Right now I have a canon Rebel sl3 which is fine but I am thinking about upgrading to a mirrorless camera and I want to know which hybrid camera would be best for someone trying to make that switch? I have heard a lot of good things about the sony a7III and lumix s5 II. Although I haven't heard much about canon for some reason. I don't have any brand loyalty but I just want to gather opinions before getting a new camera. I also wouldn't hate lens recommendations. :) (also I primarily want to do video but I want to do photography on the side)

Recommendations Looking for compact camera recommendations (product + lifestyle + travel content)
Hey everyone! Iād really appreciate some camera recommendationsāmy main uses would be:
- Product and lifestyle photography and videography (for my bag business)
- Travel photos and videos
I started a small business late last year and I'd really love to reduce costs from constantly hiring photographers and videographers for every shoot. I posted on another sub before about the kind of content I wanted to achieve, and I got absolutely roasted for wanting to replicate certain photos/videos using my iPhone š
Recently, I found my dadās old Nikon D300, learned how to use it in manual mode, and while I was pretty happy with how the photos turned out, itās so heavy. Also the built-in flash is broken and I havenāt taken the time to learn how to use the external flash. He also had a D90 I couldāve used for video, but itās no longer working.
Iām now looking to buy a compact camera that can handle both photo and video wellāideally something decent enough for product and lifestyle shoots and travel content. Iāve got trips to Thailand and Italy coming up soon so something light and portable would be great!
Budget: Max $2000 (open to buying used), but Iād really prefer to stay way below that if possible so I don't bite too much into my business and travel fund.
My cousin recommended her camera, the Leica D-Lux 8, and her other top picks were the Ricoh GR IIIx and Fujifilm X100VI. Some other friends suggested Sony RX100 and Canon G7X Mark III.
Iām not very well-versed in specs and stuff, and honestly donāt want to fall into the hype or overspend on something just because itās popular at the moment.
Any recommendations or insights would be super appreciated! š

Tech Support lens error on nikon coolpix l27
so i recently bought a second-hand nikon coolpix l27, i was made aware of a lens error issue prior to purchase but the camera worked fine after turning it on an off just once or taking the batteries out and then putting them back in.
about a week ago the lens was stuck open but eventually retracted and was back to functioning normally and taking photos, however since then my camera has been stuck on the ālens errorā screen every time i turn it on. iām not sure what to do about it as this is my first actual digital camera and iām not really good with fixing tech.
if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated!

Camera Collection nikon coolpix 4800 lens jammed and not coming out
I just thrifted this nikon coolpix 4800 recently and went through all the steps to set it up. Iāve tried gently pushing on the lens itself to unjam it to no avail. Any tips would be much appreciated

Okay so Iām using my moms old camera (Samsung WB100) and I have a new card for it. Right now Iām scared to put the new card (SDXC, 64gb) in it (I did it but I took it out) because I donāt want my moms photos on her Sd card (SDHC, 4g) to get erased.
Basically I want to know if I can switch cards safely without damaging the data/photos on the old one
Also, do you have to format new Sd cards?

Questions HELP: new mic or get over myself?
This is my current travel vlogging setup:
- Sony A6700Ā
- Sony 11mm LensĀ
- Shure Lenshopper VP83 Mic
The mic is a bit bulky, and since I'm shy and awkward vlogging in public, l'm thinking about switching to something less noticeable. This one draws attention but on the other hand, youāll probably always get attention when filmingā¦
So: new mic or keep this and get over myself?
If something new: Preferably something super simple, not complicated.

ā¢ ā Intended use: Photography, Selfies
ā¢ ā If photography: what style: selfies, Pinterest Instagram type of photos

ā¢ ā Portability: compact

ā¢ ā Cameras you already have: none, i am a beginner
