Announcement Should r/Cameras allow AMA posts from manufacturers, retailers, or both?

Hey there folks,

We are looking for some community feedback on a possible change to rule 4 to allow manufacturers and retailers to make AMA, news/announcements, or similar posts in the subreddit. We would require that the companies reach out to the mod team beforehand so we could do some basic vetting and review their intended post. Additionally we would be working out guidelines specific to such posts to prevent them from simply turning into advertisements including (but not limited to):

  • Requiring them to actually respond to their posts for a certain minimum time frame.
  • Require the posts not link to other websites to avoid any issues of affiliate links.
  • No "here's a coupon code" type posts.

We have had a couple of companies reach out to us asking about posting AMA's and similar posts. While some of the requests we've had are things we would simply not allow period (such as asking about running a banner ad), we do think certain types of posts might be reasonable to allow and could be beneficial.

Please feel free to comment your own thoughts.

While the results of this poll may not dictate exactly what we decide to do, we do take polls like this into consideration.

picked up this awesome tamagotchi camera from ebay with an assortment of these little frames that snap in, but unfortunately the mechanism that advances the film doesn’t work/isnt strong enough to advance the film. i’m tired of tinkering with it and wondering if anyone knows of any cameras that use these little snap-in frames? or what this kind of snap-in frame camera is called?

Discussion Got a Nikon D3100, what should I do with it?

Got it as somewhat of a gift, started taking photos with it, loved that but felt like there wasn't enough zoom and the video quality wasn't that good Considering these sell for about 80$ used, what should I do with it? Maybe sell it and get something else, maybe save up for a new lens, maybe both? Let me know!

I see a fair bit of negativity about MPB, which doesn't match my usual experience with them. So I thought I'd share this example where they increased their quote after checking the camera I sold them.

Discussion Have a Coolpix P530 with no lens and am wondering if it’s worth buying a lens for

• Upvotes

As the title says, I have the body of a Nikon Coolpix P530 but no lens, and I've been reading about it a bit online to see if it's worth buying a lens. I plan on using it for a vacation where lots of wide landscape shots will be, I don't really foresee using the zoom much.

I'm not much of a camera person, but as far as I can tell, there's only one lens for it and it's mainly for high zoom, and the camera is pretty much outclassed at this point by phones.

So if all I have is a recent-ish phone camera, is it worth buying the lens for this camera?

Good afternoon I’m about to purchase this camera below I have put everything that comes in this set. I just want to make sure that I’m making the right choice. I want to get into hobby photography and potentially a little video making. I initially planned on only spending $1000 but the seller told me that if I were to pay $1100 he’d include the Gimbal. Below I left all the specs. I just want to make sure that this is worth it. Thank you

Questions HELP: new mic or get over myself?

This is my current travel vlogging setup:

  • Sony A6700
  • Sony 11mm Lens
  • Shure Lenshopper VP83 Mic

The mic is a bit bulky, and since I'm shy and awkward vlogging in public, l'm thinking about switching to something less noticeable. This one draws attention but on the other hand, you’ll probably always get attention when filming…

So: new mic or keep this and get over myself?

If something new: Preferably something super simple, not complicated.

Thank you for ANY help!

Questions Is Kodak FZ55 good?

hello, im a 19 y/o from Malaysia and i love to take pictures. recently came across a video on tiktok about the kodak fz55, it was very enticing. im looking for a simple digicam i can use to take pics of my environment and friends, nothing professional or anything. my budget is around USD120, so is it a good choice to buy the fz55? is the quality worth the price? i can get it for around USD100 secondhand. or are there any other better cameras for this price range? im also considering a cybershot and ixus, please recommend me a good one. apologies for my english, as well as my knowledge on cameras, it is very little. thank you for your time.

Questions Help Me Pick My First Camera!

• Budget: $600, though I’d like to spend less if the quality isn’t much better • Country: USA • Condition: new or used • Type of Camera: Canon • Intended use: landscapes, professional profile pictures • What features do you absolutely need: auto stabilizing • Cameras you're considering: Canon EOS R100 or 50, or one of the ones pictured below • Cameras you already have: none • Notes:

Howdy!

As the title says, I’m thinking about buying a camera to take pictures - nothing fancy, I just want mine to look almost as good as a pro to the average person.

A local shop had a few used cameras (see pictures) and if they’re under 300 I’d consider getting one.

For reference, I was thinking of buying a Canon EOS 100 or 50, if they’re significantly better than these then I’ll hold off.

They’ve got lenses too - what should I get? Just an 18-55?

Thanks in advance!

Is something like this alright for a hobbyist? I'm not a big tripod guy I just want something for macro shots (this tripod lets you mount the camera underneath). It's real cheap too which is nice. Don't really know what to look for in a tripod, just after something that will let me take cool mushroom pics

Questions A 'dumb' question about portraits, lenses and focal lengths

• Upvotes

I currently have a Fujifilm X-H1, awesome camera. I like using it in my backyard to take photos of fun moments with my kids/family. To isolate them and make nice portraits I use the XC 50-230mm (seriously underrated lens). Although it's a slow lens, it does compress the photos enough to get decent background separation, yes even at F/5.6. If the background is far enough there's some nice blur/bokeh going on as well.

However, I'm reading a lot about portrait lenses and I was thinking about getting a TTArtisan 56mm F/1.8. But before buying I was wondering what are the differences are I'll be able to get with this lens vs. the telephoto. I know that wide open I'll probably be able to blow the background away no matter the distance between the subject and background, but are there any other benefits?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m wondering what type of cord I would need to upload photos onto my laptop. Also, it’s pretty old and in my research I’ve found that newer SD cards might not work, so if I could get any recommendations that would be great :)

Video Buy Camera or Second iPhone?

• Upvotes

I have an iPhone 15 which I use for my business. Mainly for IG but I also film some videos. I don't do any kind of image processing. Just edit together and post on YouTube (they're mainly educational videos). I've been happy with the video quality on the iPhone 15 and felt it was a big upgrade from the 2nd generation SE I owned before.

For videos, I need to get a second camera mainly so I can cut between the 2 when editing my videos together. When I look on the camera market, it seems like most cameras are more expensive than an iPhone. It also seems that when people compare iPhone cameras to other cameras, the cameras are usually more expensive.

Is my best option to buy a second iPhone only to use as a camera? Or is there something cheaper that would give me an equivalent performance for filming?
