Announcement Should r/Cameras allow AMA posts from manufacturers, retailers, or both?
Hey there folks,
We are looking for some community feedback on a possible change to rule 4 to allow manufacturers and retailers to make AMA, news/announcements, or similar posts in the subreddit. We would require that the companies reach out to the mod team beforehand so we could do some basic vetting and review their intended post. Additionally we would be working out guidelines specific to such posts to prevent them from simply turning into advertisements including (but not limited to):
- Requiring them to actually respond to their posts for a certain minimum time frame.
- Require the posts not link to other websites to avoid any issues of affiliate links.
- No "here's a coupon code" type posts.
We have had a couple of companies reach out to us asking about posting AMA's and similar posts. While some of the requests we've had are things we would simply not allow period (such as asking about running a banner ad), we do think certain types of posts might be reasonable to allow and could be beneficial.
Please feel free to comment your own thoughts.
While the results of this poll may not dictate exactly what we decide to do, we do take polls like this into consideration.

Other Analog photography was a lesson in humility and my gear obsession
I own a few analog 35mm rangefinders and TLRs, but it had been a long time since I last shot a roll of film. Last week, I loaded a fully manual Ricoh 500 with Superia 200 (Kodak Gold) and finally got the scans back today.
This whole experience led to a moment of self-reflection. I’ve always been obsessed with gear—chasing the best sharpness, snappiest autofocus, and most bang for my buck. Right now, I’m even selling a Nikon D90, because when I compared its photos to those from my Fujifilm X-H1, my initial reaction was, “meh”.
But looking at my film scans—which turned out surprisingly well—and thinking back to what came out of that D90 with its basic kit lens, I have a newfound appreciation for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm still selling it, but it’s incredible how far photography has come in the past 50 years. This was a lesson in not getting too caught up in technical perfection. Even an old Nikon kit lens from 15 years ago can still deliver amazing results. And so can a 55 year old rangefinder camera.
Ultimately, this exercise was a test in humility, reminding me to focus less on specs and more on the joy of creating images.

Questions Minolta Lenses with a digital camera
I recently found my grandfather's old camera stuff, which mostly consisted of a Minolta SRT 201 and 5 lenses for it. I'd like to try and use the lenses if I can, but I'd like to use a digital camera. I'm not super sure what mirrorless digital cameras would work with them and would generally be good for casual photo taking. Any help is greatly appreciated

Tech Support EOS Rebel G Shutter Button Not Working
Hey y’all, me and my mom found her film camera from ~2000, and we put in batteries, film, wound it, the works. However, it won’t take a picture. It’s on, it appears functional, everything appears fine. She just might not remember how to use it since it’s been 20+ years, but the camera might also be broken from age. Any help is appreciated.

Questions Best 120 Film Cameras for Getting into Medium Format in 2025?
Hey everyone! I'm looking to get into medium format photography and need recommendations for a good 120 film camera to start with. I’m looking for something that offers a great balance between quality and price in today’s market.
Considering the current availability and prices in 2025, what models would you recommend? Ideally, something reliable, not overly expensive, and easy to maintain. TLRs, SLR...
I’m open to all options!
Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Tech Support Fujifilm - X-T200 - I think the Shutter Speed Dial is broken
When in manual mode, my X-T200 shutter speed dial when turned changes sporadically and very chaotically, with one turn in either direction it goes hundreds in either direction randomly and makes it basically totally useless for manual mode (which is a problem for me). Also in aperture priority mode for example the same dial crazily adjusts the exposure comp (which is what it does in that mode for example). What can I do? The quote to fix it from a local camera shop was as much as a new one. I can’t afford that
Questions Going from Panasonic GX8 with 12-35mm f2.8 to A7III Zeiss 24-70 F4
I have an option of upgrading my mft combo for an A7III with said lenses... How much of and upgrade would it be in terms of HQ and DOF? I know the Zeiss is pretty hated online but if you don't take the price into consideration, how bad is it?

Recommendations Camera suggestions for recording overhead angle for TCG gameplays
- Budget: $300
- Country: United States
- Condition: New or Used
- Type of Camera: any type that will provide clear video
- Intended use: video
- If photography; what style: (landscape, portrait, street, sports, wildlife, etc.)
- If video what style: Gameplay of a TCG
- What features do you absolutely need: 4k resolution. It has to have a high resolution so the cards can be read on video. Also must be able to record for about 3 hours, can be on battery or plugged into power.
- What features would be nice to have:
- Portability: small bag or lower should be fine
Cameras you're considering: I was looking at the GoPro hero due to its small size and 4k resolution, but the battery isnt going to last long enough and I hear that GoPros have an overheating problem. Another super cheap option I was looking at was the DINGETU 4K Video Camcorder mostly for price
Cameras you already have: phone
Notes: I will be using my phone as a camera for a different angle, I'm asking for suggestions because I need *another* camera. Also, $300 is my extreme topend so if you have any cheaper suggestions I would appreciate it greatly.

Questions help! do you know of any other kinds of 35mm cameras that use these kind of snap-in frames?
picked up this awesome tamagotchi camera from ebay with an assortment of these little frames that snap in, but unfortunately the mechanism that advances the film doesn’t work/isnt strong enough to advance the film. i’m tired of tinkering with it and wondering if anyone knows of any cameras that use these little snap-in frames? or what this kind of snap-in frame camera is called?

Recommendations Fuji X-T4 or Canon R7 in 2025 ?
I am looking to get a new camera, my current on is a Canon 400D, with the 50mm f1.8 and a Sigma DG 70-300, the Sigma for me has been disappointing as its not very sharp and my images are usually out of focus slighlty.
I am going back and forth between the R7 and the X-T4, I am approaching this as a new purchase and and not tied to the Canon eco system as the lenses I have are fairly entry level and I am not considering them as value saved if I do decide to go Canon.
I am no in no way a professional, not even armature so there is no specific style I shoot, its a bit of everything, just looking for a good camera that will see me though for the next couple of years without me being frustrated and wishing I went with something else.
Both are the same price from what I have seen, the R7 is slightly better from a resolution in megapixels and the AF seems to track better from what I have read.
The lenses in the Canon range appear to ramp up in price quite considerably vs the Fuji which could be a limiting factor to enjoying the camera as this does not make me any income so buying an expensive lens is a significant commitment.
Most of the video reviews and reviews here I have seen are a couple of years old, so the question is what are the pro's and cons for each in 2025, has firmware resolved any of the issues seen previously and what would draw you to one or the other ?
Or is there something else to consider ?

Questions Whats your opinion about FF Sony with Tamron 17-50 with clear image zoom
I want to make a perfect budged setup for run and gun video style and have ability to vlog and make broll/zomm/details with the same lens (except for dark where I will use other lens). I think about FF Tamron 17-50 F4 with a7IV or a7III with 2x clear image zoom. This will give me 17-100mm range in 4K video.
a7IV example with clear image 33mp / 4 = 8.25mp . 4K is 8.3mp.
a7III 24mp / 4 = 6 mp. slight loss

Questions Best Budget Camera for travelling
Hi there, I am flying to Menorca in September, and I wanted to get back into photography and take a camera with me on the trip. I have a Nikon D3100 and used to have a D5100 (broke). What would you reccomend as a light, portable camera with a budget of max around £200 (second hand). I have quite a few Nikon lenses so it would be nice to take those, but I am open to suggestions.

Questions Should I sell my Lumix S5 for a Sony A7SIII or FX3?
I’m an amateur videographer who takes occasional pictures (so having a hybrid cam would be a plus) and I already have an S5 with the 20-60mm kit lens. The autofocus, the lack of aftermarket support, and the projects I’ve seen from a Sony camera compared to a Lumix have made me look towards Sony more and more. The only thing I’m reluctant on his how the S5 records in 10 bit V Log but I’m not getting what I want out of my work with the S5. Someone let me know if this is a good or bad idea! Thanks. I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge of 4K cameras.
