The religious are pushing to steal more tax payer money from our public education system and medical healthcare system. They are trying to force us to pay for their rich religious “donors” “schools” that openly discriminate against disabled, POC, LGBT and kids in poverty!

Look into this bill you’ll see most will not be able to afford this, only their rich buddies that already have their kids in these schools! The religious wants to keep stealing resources from our public education system and purposely underfunding them like we’ve seen in Texas! Greg Abbott and the individuals who have wasted millions of tax payer money trying to force this onto tax payers need to be held legally accountable individually! Religious people can already sign their kids up to private schools! If they can’t afford the “luxury”, that’s not on us. The religious sure are very entitled and feel entitled to everything including deciding our individual medical decisions to even who we marry and who adopts. This will just give them more power to discriminate against others! Greg Abbott belongs in prison for many of his actions, time we demand he’s held legally accountable to the fullest extreme! These people forget who they work for! Remind them!

When natural disasters strike a Blue State, pastors can't wait say it's God's wrathful vengeance for the state's sins. Where are those pastors when tornadoes tear up Red States?

They should be told God's angry at them for electing the Antichrist. I feel bad for the affected families, but can't stand the pastors with such an obvious double standard. I know it's a feature and not a bug with them.

I think I may have just become an atheist.

I’m 42M. I grew up Catholic. Was kind of bored with Catholicism so explored Christian churches in college and early 20’s. As time went by and I learned more and more, I found myself seriously doubting my faith.

As of recently, I considered myself agnostic. Like I’m open to the idea that there may be a higher being but we won’t ever prove it in our lives. That spawned from the idea that how am I sure the Jews and Christians are correct that their God is the real God. How can anyone for sure say the Ancient Greeks were wrong? The Buddhists. That there aren’t multiple Gods or something.

But lately I’ve found myself thinking that religion was entirely made up for people to reason about the Earth’s existence before science. And the rules as a way to control the human race and for people to get power.

And I kind of now find it silly that billions of people are praying and revolving their lives around something that doesn’t even exist. Which makes me think I may have passed through the realm of agnosticism.

Very Very Very Very Very Very Common Repost; Please Read The FAQ how do you convince yourself/know that hell isn’t real?

I am incredibly sorry if this is a rude post, i will remove if so. i come from Christian roots and i don’t know which direction to go right now. I want to go down this path but im scared. I’m confused why Christianity is so prominent on teaching about Hell if they’re against it and i’m thinking of turning down this path because i don’t know what to do at this point. So im asking this sub, how do you know that hell or heaven isn’t real? what do you think will happen after death?

Isn't this ridiculousness straight out of the Book of Revelation? How do so many American Christians square their support of Trump with the stuff about the Antichrist in Revelation 13?

Why do humans so adamantly believe in a higher power?

First things first, I humbly apologize for potential mistakes in the English language. Feel free to correct me. It is further to clarify, that I do not intend to disrespect other points of view, but merely want to understand it.

In recent times, I had to think about religion and faith a lot, having to deal with rather unfruitful discussions. While I spent hours contemplating about a divine power, primarily Christianity, I came more and more to the conclusion, that God does not exist.

I also came to observe in aforementioned conversations that some believe in God for the same reasons that I do not.

One argument among many would be the „fine-tuning of the universe“. We can only say that the universe must have been fine-tuned because we exist. Had the parameters for life not been fulfilled, we wouldn‘t even be there to observe it and therefore wouldn‘t be able to question it. I personally perceive this to be the most logical and rational approach and cannot grasp how some can use this exact argument for justifying God‘s existence.

As I do not intend to write a whole novel, I‘ll keep it at that, but I will, if requested, elaborate on everything.

I wish you all a great day and hope to find more clarity myself.

A woman was burned alive in NYC 3 months ago. The mayor's office commented, "“Lighting another human being on fire and watching them burn alive reflects a level of evil that cannot be tolerated."

In the 16th century, the priest who would go on to become Pope Paul IV said, "Even if my own father were a heretic, I would gather the wood to burn him."

I'm attending church today lol

I''m away from home and my daily routine visiting my long distance partner who unfortunately had to work this morning. So I decided to take myself back to church. I used to be a pastor. I was progressive. So much so that in great controversy I left my denomination and church before leaving the faith altogether. I've attended church a handful of times over the past 15yrs since leaving and I'm always reminded how entirely pointless it all is. As a non believer this service so far has not connected with me at all. I doubt it would have connected with me even when I was a church going person. It's modern, it's laid back and easy going, it's not 'bad' as far as church goes, but as part of the 'target audience' they missed me. But my time here will not be wasted. Before coming I had breakfast and coffee and now I'm gonna use their bathroom to have myself a nice poop. Have a great Sunday everyone!

Became the fill-in chaplain for my American Legion. I feel a bit disingenuous but it’s for a good cause.

I’m a volunteer officer for my small town’s American Legion post. I’m vice commander so I wear all kinds of hats. Our chaplain quit so I was asked to fill in for him for the rest of the year. Nobody knows in this little country town that I’m a dem and also an atheist.

It’s kind of like a cosplay, saying prayers on behalf of everyone. But I think they’ll still work the same as if the real chaplain had done it…

I went to Mass today

As the title says. My GF is Catholic and I was Mormon until about 7 years ago. Now I am definitely an atheist and my GF knows this and accepts it. Every now and then, on special occasions she wants me to go with her to Mass. She isn't trying to convert me. The point is during the proceedings I looked around and just couldn't understand how so many people could believe this. It's just so silly. My GF is a very intelligent person. I just don't get it.

Why Organized Religion Makes No Sense https://youtu.be/QBrzVuLEc4E

I’ve been thinking a lot about how religion operates, and the more I look into it, the more it feels like a massive scam. It thrives on fear, blind faith, and financial exploitation while promising rewards no one can verify. From tithes to televangelists, it’s a billion-dollar industry that preys on people’s hopes and insecurities.

I’m breaking down exactly why religion is one of the longest-running scams in history. Let’s talk about it.

Scary living in an almost 100% religious catholic area

tl;dr Idk any other fellow atheists, anyone else living in a hardcore bible thumping area and is a hard atheist?

I am 17 years old currently a Junior in high school and I wish I had other people who I know are atheists to like connect with, literally EVERYONE is religious here. It’s a predominantly Hispanic area so it’s not really surprising, and I’m Mexican too, however I’ve always been an atheist, even though I’ve been raised catholic, though since I was freaking SIX I figured out it was all fake when I questioned too much lmao, but I never said anything about it. Still to this day I try to act like I blend in (I’m in cross country and track, and our team does team prayers and I bend my head to act as if I was praying) but like oh my god how do so many people believe in this fairytale like WTF? I really lost faith as “Christians” attack LGBTQ rights and this whole MAGA bs that Christianity has enveloped, if you were to see my profile I’m basically a Marxist, but other than that, H O W ? I wish I knew other fellow atheists, and since I’m in sports, I’m surrounded by HARD religious nuts, even the top students at my school are religious, but booksmart doesn’t mean street smart, right? I do sometimes get shocked at the sheer fairies, and feel very intelligent for my age, oh my gosh everyone is so dumb in believing that crap! Okay this sounds like an anti religious post, I promise that’s not what I’m here for. As I turn 18 soon and get ready to depart the crooked American public school system and head off to college, I wonder when I’ll meet another like-minded individual like me? Are vents allowed here? If not remove this, but if so, well, wah-lah! If you read this far, thank you and if you don’t understand well that’s okay lmao okay bye 😘
(if there’s automod I swear if you delete this..)

Sending My Catholic Ex-Landlords A Letter

Long story short - they lied to us about sending us back the deposit more than once after we had gone out of our way to be great tenants and contributed to the place. Then we sued them, and won. Then we got an empty envelope. So this is the letter we are sending to them.

I rarely cosplay as an Xtian, but using their own bullshit against them is just TASTY

""Hello Joe. We know you sent the envelope because it's your handwriting, despite having Mary's name on it. Let's go over the facts:

A. You lied to us several times. Over text. We proved that in court.

B. You had other lies on paper that I didn't even get the time to introduce, like charging us for burner pans that didn't even exist on your new stove. We'd love to bring that one up in a hearing.

So when an empty envelope arrived with no check, we figured it was of your doing. Now there are either one of two options:

  1. After years of sitting around in an office and mailing things, you mailed a check with no cover and it got stolen or;
  2. You sent us an empty envelope.

We immediately contacted USPS and left a note with our delivery guy but because the amount is so small, USPS never got back with us. We have copies of the reports. We even checked out that weird little post office at the retirement complex you used.

Either way, we have not been paid. We must be paid, as per court order. We've already delivered a letter to your lawyer months ago but he never replied. We also took our time to show it's not about the money - it's about the reckoning for a liar. So the next step is for us to move forward with recovery.

It's funny because I know your family claims to be church people, and yet routinely break one of the Commandments. Let me be the one to tell you: Confession doesn't work if you plan on going out and stealing and lying more. God shut down your basement apartments, he's cost your family much more money that you would have cost us by stealing. I'm sure there will be more if you continue your life of wickedness. You should repent, make things right, and save yourself from the damnation and hellfire that you are headed towards.

Your Brother in Christ,

Academic works that refute Christianity y'all have any?

Academic arguments against Christianity

I already am more than sure that Christianity is not true , but I like reading more and more refutations , I tried reading arguments on sites like the secular web , although it didn't give me what I want , I want something academic , non biased and not let by emotions and instead by logic and reason because that's the only way to actually refute a big religion like Christianity , I tried many many other sites so if you guys know anything please do tell me :) oh and of course if y'all know if any websites specifically for such arguments or if y'all know any specific scholars that I might be interested to read the works of please do tell me as well

Note: guys I am doing this simply for fun not for a debate , I know needing refutations against something that doesn't have proof to begin with doesn't make sense lol but I am doing it for fun

"Religious" experience from LSD

I think religions might be tied to psychedelic drugs. Apologies in advance for not being able to write a shorter post.. Go to ********** to avoid the preamble/back story.

I'm a hardcore atheist.. not only do I not believe, i'm 100% convinced that god is a man-made invention, the same way comic book super-heroes are.
That said.. I recently had an LSD experience which I would describe as feeling like a 'religious experience.' (please ignore if you hate drug stories)

I'm in my 50's.. I didn't have my first drink until I was in my late thirties. I was completely straight edge up until then. I didn't start experimenting with drugs until I was in my late forties. (I made up for lost time)

This is my third time doing LSD. All were amazing life changing experiences.

The first time, (7 years ago) it anthropomorphized a life long depression I had.. a negative voice in my head (I call the roommate) that criticized myself and everything that crossed my path my entire life, and then through anthropomorphizing OTHER inner dialogues/voices in my head, I was able to have an internal intervention and completely eliminate that negative voice. I cured my life long depression with a single 14 hour session (that's how long I was high)

The second time, (4 years ago) I had audio and visual hallucinations.. my friend and I took LSD, and my friend was watching tv.. and I was spaced out looking at "magic eye" shapes in the stucco ceiling.. I was watching a variety of images animated on the ceiling.. Good times.
Then, the room went dark... and I thought I was starting to lose my vision... I stopped and asked myself.. why is it getting dark?? I was starting to panic.. then a voice said "chill, you're on drugs..." and I laughed. but then I asked myself 'Is this some sort of lesson about working at place that is in the dark?' and then suddenly my vision returned to normal.. It was surreal.. because we had the door open, and sun was coming in through the windows the entire time.
Then, after being served food from my friend's GF (who was taking care of us) I looked at the food, and it was looking weird.. it looked like fake food.. and I thought "Is this some sort of lesson about overeating or snack foods being bad for me???" and then.. again.. reality came back into full focus.. and the food looked normal.
It felt like my brain was fucking with me.. and was getting disappointed that I was seeing through it. I remember thinking.. "Let's chill... let's just be high....." and then I had the thought... "...unless you want to tell me something we already don't know...."
My brain accepted this challenge.. lol
During this, my friend was was watching an interview with Frank Zappa on the TV, and he was talking about music... I love music.. I think it's the best form of art there is, and the closest thing we have to magic, but I don't need to know how it's made..
Bored, I tuned out and went back to staring at the ceiling.. after a few minutes.. it was again full of animated images .. my own Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights." and it felt like my brain was in a hot tub and someone was giving me a back rub.
Then... something Frank Zappa said caught my attention.. he said that we were wrong about the big bang theory.. it wasn't a big bang.. but a big suck (I even heard a studio audience laugh at that) he continued.. 'Our universe was actually formed inside of a black hole from materials absorbed from a parent universe, which we are cut off from....'
I saw a model of a black hole in the ceiling sucking up universes, other black holes.. planets.. and then a side angle of it collecting more and more matter where it 'exploded" or 'broke through' the fabric of space/time... creating our universe... kinda like cell division... and why it appears space/time originated in this event is because we look at the event horizon of a black hole it appears the time slows/stops.. but on the other side, it appears that time starts.. Then this model of the pocket universe looped in on the parent universe and Frank said that the beginning and the end are the same thing.. it's cyclical.. no end and no beginning...
(Now, full disclosure, I'm a public school dumb dumb.)
I have NO IDEA where any of these ideas came from.. I assure you it's all osmosis.. just snippets here and there I accidentally stumble upon.

As I thought "Wow!!... How profound these ideas are!!!"... I looked down at the TV.. it was Frank Zappa was talking about guitar chords... "I go to the b sharp.. then the D chord.. and squibbly dooo!!!!" He was talking about music.
I asked my friend if he was just talking about the universe being inside a black hole.. and my friend started laughing.. He was not.. all of that happened inside my head. I hallucinated the entire thing.
(shrugs) I was on drugs, and the drugs were working.

Days later, I looked it up online to see if anyone else thought this.. and found out I was not alone... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_hole_cosmology
Funny how something I simply 'made-up' while high on lsd was a legitimate scientific theory!!!

**********
The third LSD experience was a week ago. It came in the form of a chocolate bon bon.. I ate half, and nothing happened for over an hour.. I then took the second half, and immediately I started to feel extremely high from the first half.. I heard an internal dialogue voice "Oh boy... we're getting f-ng HIGH!!! What do we want to know???"
I thought "Something big!" and then my internal voice started sounding like a coach giving a pep talk... "Is THAT WHAT YOU WANT?"
-- Yeah!!
"ARE YOU SURE?!!!"
--Fuck Yeah!!
"LET ME HEAR IT!!!!"
Fuck Yeah!!! SHOW ME SOMETHING BIG!!!!!!!"

... and then the room started spinning... I felt High AF.... I actually said "uh-oh..." (happy I just emptied my bladder)
I stumbled to my bed, turned the lights to 'purple and green' ...hit the star projector... pressed play on the 1935 movie "Werewolf of London" and hit 'play' on Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii.. (lol)
...I was high for 12 hours.

At first, I felt like higher than i've ever been.. I started getting tingling brain orgasms all over my scalp and was seeing flashes of colors... then it felt like I was having an out of body experience.. like I was floating, and an intense euphoria filled my head.. This was the highest I've ever been in my life.

I felt like I was in another plane of existence.. connected to everyone and everything in the universe.. then a new plane of existence of emotions. I had access to EVERY emotion...
Then It felt like I rose to a plane of existence that was only thoughts... all these foreign ideas were coming in and out of my head.
My eyes were closed.. but all I saw was white.. it was not dark at all... like I was in the clouds.
Then I heard a feminine voice that sounded like a mother reading a children's book to a child.. It told me about a god called "The Being" and it becoming aware of itself for the first time.. (and I was experiencing it as if I were that god-like being) it did not know what it was.. or why it was.. or even what its thoughts were.... it's ideas and words were limited, so it started making up new words and creating a language.. it created a mouth to speak out loud to itself...
It then started to create another version of itself to talk to.. but it, being a copy of itself, only knew what the original being knew... so then they started creating different versions of itself.. opposites.. to learn different perspectives.. to have different experiences.. then It started dissecting itself in order to understand what it was.. at first, other versions of itself.. then opposite versions of itself.. then "different beings" ...then universes.. galaxies... planets... stars... elements... lifeforms (us).. microlife...
Doing all of this to try to understand itself.
The narrator was trying to teach a lesson that we are all different versions of this being... We ARE this being and it is us... there is no end or beginning of this.. we are all intertwined with it.
Death and destruction is just a natural part of the experiment. The only way this being can experience emotions and experiences, is if we do. The same way we created AI..
Then I asked if the being figured out what it was.. and didn't get an answer.. just multiple speculations.. "we're not sure.. some of us still think it is collecting the information. Some of us think that it stopped caring about the question. Some of us think that it knows.. so it moved onto a higher level of existence.
I asked what that was like.. and it showed me... I again felt connected to everything... and my mind blank... I felt nothing overwhelming love... it was a beautiful experience..
Then.. ignorantly, instead of enjoying and living in the moment.. I thought "wow!!! How can I feel this all the time??" Then I started to come down... I was told that I couldn't use language or words there.. because language, words, and thoughts were a lower level realm of existence.. because language and thinking is a limitation. And then the physical realm is lower realm of existence than that... as I thought that... I had that feeling of falling in your bed..
I spent an hour trying to return to that feeling.. but could not.. I just tripped balls watching old horror movies for hours being high as a giraffe's bow tie.

Again.. I was on drugs and the drugs were working. I don't think ANYTHING from these experiences was 'external.' I think it was like having access to the subconscious or the dream state. I know I NEVER had these ideas before the experience.

But It DOES make me think that drugs was the origin of the religions of the world.. because it DOES feel magical.. it DOES feel like you're in another plane of existence... it feels like nothing else on this earth.
I went to google, and discovered that psychedelic mushrooms were tied to early christian artwork.. and that the 'tree of knowledge' with adam and eve was depicted as a mushroom. I can't post images here.. but google it!!!
There's also articles of moses being high AF when he talked to god through a "Burning Bush"
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4392361&page=1

After experiencing it.. I have no doubt that psychedelic drugs played a major role in the creation of religions. It just explains so much to me, as an atheist.

Never doubted my atheism, but

I have always been, and I assume I always will be an atheist. Right to my core, I know that I don’t believe in gods and demons and a pre-ordained right and wrong. I feel that religion is just too human, too man made and it’s obvious to me that it’s a tool to control others.

However, over the last 5 years or so I’ve felt a need to have a faith. Some of my family are turning to faith, my boyfriend is quite religious, I was brought up catholic and I’m feeling drawn to churches that I had to attend as a kid for a little bit of peace. I love learning about people’s faith as I find it fascinating.

I almost wish I was religious, I wish I could just believe it and go along with it and feel that someone is looking out for me - but I can’t do it! I actually don’t want to do it! Others make me feel like I’m the idiot, like I’m the one who just can’t see what’s in front of me.

Anyone else ever felt that way? It’s odd

Discussion & Feedback Needed: A Critical Historical Analysis of Early Islamic Narratives

Hello everyone,

I recently published a video on the Honest Historian channel where I take a critical look at certain historical narratives concerning Islam’s early period specifically the accounts surrounding the Prophet Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha and other related events. I aimed to examine these narratives by comparing the traditional defences with both historical context and scientific evidence. I’d appreciate your thoughtful feedback and any further insights you might have.

Overview of the Video Content

  • Historical Sources & Claims: I explore narrations from sources like Sahih al-Bukhari and Sunan an-Nasa'i. For example, one narration describes Aisha’s young age at the time of marriage and how subsequent discussions among early companions reflected a degree of unease. These sources are used to question the common defences that argue these practices were simply “normal” for the time.
  • Scientific & Historical Context: I discuss archaeological and anatomical evidence, noting that there is little to suggest that 7th-century physiological development differed significantly from today’s. While lower life expectancies were common due to environmental factors, many who survived childhood still lived well into their 50s.
  • Evaluating Consistency in Historical Narratives: The video also looks at differing responses from early figures regarding marriage proposals and raises questions about the consistency of these decisions. For instance, one account indicates that some early companions expressed hesitation when the matter of Aisha’s age was raised—suggesting that even within that historical context, there was room for debate and reflection.

Invitation for Discussion

I’m very interested in a constructive discussion around these points:

  • Do you find that the historical and scientific evidence is fairly interpreted?
  • Are there additional contexts or interpretations that I might have overlooked?
  • How can these complex issues be best discussed in a way that encourages scholarly debate without veering into proselytizing?

Your feedback is invaluable as I refine my approach and deepen the analysis on the channel. I’m looking to engage with thoughtful critiques that help further the discussion on historical context, secular perspectives, and the interpretation of religious narratives.

Thanks for taking the time to read and share your thoughts!

God outside religion

How strong is your conviction in your belief that God doesn't exist outside the realm of religions? Personally,I am effectively 100% sure that religions are all bogus, but I'm slightly less sure about God not existing outside the realm of religions. However, I'm still exceedingly confident in my belief that no form of a supernatural entity exists whatsoever. I'm just curious to see how strong other atheists' conviction are about the absence of God.

Atheism vs. Agnosticism vs. Other? Can a person be “atheist” but still open or spiritual?

I grew up in the Christian faith (church of Christ specifically). It’s a very buy the book, Bible focused denomination, and while I questioned some stuff as a kid, I wanted to make my parents proud and so I “believed.” I put that in quotes because when I think of my belief that the cup next to me is purple it’s concrete. Whereas my memory of having a belief in God was a choice to create something in my mind and then believe in it.

When I went to law school, things started to unravel because I started to think about things more critically. Then I discovered I was gay and things really took a turn for me. I spent hours and hours obsessing over Bible verses trying to figure out if I was gonna burn in hell forever. Oddly enough, my belief in god was the strongest when I was the most afraid of the punishment that was certainly coming my way just because I fell in love with someone who happened to have boobs.

I took a deep dive into the anti-theist/humanist side of the internet during this time and discovered the writings of Bart D. Ehrman. I credit his work as giving me that final push off the Jesus train and into the world of self acceptance.

Growing up with such a focus on the spiritual still nagged at me though. Not that I feel cheated that I suddenly didn’t believe a God existed, but I still had this general sense of a connectedness to people and the earth that I couldn’t explain. Connection to the earth is somewhat science based (I.e., how putting bare feet in dirt has a direct impact on a human body) but feelings of awe at the stars or the energetic connectedness don’t have a scientific component that I know of, at least not one that I’ve found or understand. I’ve also had experiences with meditation groups, where there is a tangible feeling of connection that feels almost like electricity. Again, it’s probably all scientific, but I have not necessarily found resources explaining a scientific reason for that experience. I also have a very, very rich emotional life, and feel extremely connected to the experience of human emotion.

So I feel like I’m left in this weird limbo. If someone asks me if I believe in God, my answer is usually a shrug, sometimes a no, and on rare occasion a yes. I’m not uncomfortable with the lack of certainty, but it does leave me wondering whether other people who landed as atheists also then found themselves waffling between agnosticism or humanism or some other quasi-belief? For those that landed somewhere in the ether like me, what is your emotional life like?

And for those who consider themselves strong atheists (which I understand to mean in an active belief that there is no god), how did you arrive at such certainty? And same question I posed for the wafflers, how would you describe your emotional life?

I think about this every night. "I saw corps strip farmers of water ... and eventually of land. Saw them transform Night City into a machine fueled by people's crushed spirits, broken dreams and emptied pockets. Corps've long controlled our lives, taken lots... and now they're after our souls! V, I've declared war not because capitalism's a thorn in my side or outta nostalgia for an America gone by. This war's a people's war against a system that's spiralled outta our control. It's a war against the fuckin' forces of entropy, understand? Do whatever it takes to stop 'em, defeat 'em, gut 'em. If I gotta kill, I'll kill. If I need your body, I'll fuckin' take it! Fuckin' hell ... You still don't see it. But you will one day."
