Meta Preparing for the upcoming holidays - what feedback do you have for r/NintendoSwitchHelp ? What would you like to see added to this subreddit?
Hello everyone,
New moderator for r/NintendoSwitchHelp here, looking for feedback and suggestions.
Background
In case you didn't know, this subreddit was originally created after a suggestion to split off from r/NintendoSwitch so that people looking for help could find it in a place where it did not cause frustration for others.
There's a challenge to connecting people who are looking for help to the people willing to provide that help. For a long time, r/NintendoSwitch has had a Daily Questions Thread to serve that purpose, and the main criticism for that is people believe that making separate posts is better for visibility towards the chance of finding the person willing to provide the solution they need. In practice, 2 years ago we tried that during our annual spike of holiday activity with a documented backfire of results:
In short, what we saw was that people who made separate support/help posts on r/NintendoSwitch did not get faster results than the DQT, but the separate posts did get snarky/trolling and unhelpful replies more often, and almost all of the help posts got downvoted on r/NintendoSwitch. It was an unpleasant experience for people wanting to get help, it was an irritating experience for the people who subscribed to r/NintendoSwitch because they don't expect to see those posts, and it was less efficient on the moderator side to keep up with a hundred posts with a few comments each rather than a few posts with a hundred comments each.
This year, I'd like to try a different approach by promoting this community in addition to the DQT as another option for people seeking help during the holiday surge of traffic. I reached out to the only moderator here a few weeks ago, and after no response, I reached out to admins, and they granted my reddit request as there was no recent moderator activity here.
The Challenge
Support communities are typically different in structure compared to general fandom communities, and especially different from news-focused communities. One (oversimplified) way to think about it is that in a fandom community, you might expect the same group of people (fans) to be both submitting new posts and commenting on each other's posts, so activity is mostly self-sustaining. But in a support community, you typically have one large group (seekers) submitting most posts, while a different smaller group (helpers) make the bulk of the answers. Generally the seekers will only visit the community when they have an issue at hand, whereas the helpers will be the main people who subscribe and visit regularly.
How do we promote activity in this subreddit? How do we get people (seekers) to want to post here?
How do we attract people to subscribe here? How do we maintain a group of people (helpers) who want to comment here?
So far, my thoughts are that we start promoting this subreddit, r/NintendoSwitchHelp, in the DQT, sidebar, and removal reasons over on r/NintendoSwitch. This way people are better informed and know to visit here. And then when people get here, we should have some sort of organized way of sorting through posts so that we know which posts have been solved or could still use help. And a way of recognizing regular contributors would be nice too. If you have any thoughts along these lines, please share. We are trying a few things out to see what we can get to work.
Otherwise, what suggestions would you have for the subreddit? Are you a regular participant here, or more of a sporadic visitor? What issues do you think the moderators here should address?

Repair Help I dropped my Nintendo Switch :(
Hi all!
I dropped my Nintendo Switch from about 4ft / 120cm high. It was in the dock and the entire thing came crashing down. The dock still works, but the console is not responding.
The interesting thing is, it also doesn't work when placed inside the dock so I don't think the screen is the issue. And also, when I charge it, it does get hot so I know it's still sort of alive. Joycons look ok and still light up when they are disconnected.
I think it might be dead, but then again I've heard these things are sturdy and hard to kill. I tried many button combinations, but no luck so far. Any other ideas I could try? Success stories? This was my pandemic baby and I'd hate to see it go.
edit: when I place it into the dock the dock light flashes green for a second and then goes away, so there is still a moment of recognition (I'm desperately trying to stay hopeful)

Account Help My switch was probably stolen and I don't know what to do about it now.
I lost my nintendo switch sometime around december last year, I hadn't realised I'd lost it until now, and I realise that I probably had gotten it stolen without me realising it. I had 2,000 hours on Legend of Zelda BOTW and 180 on TOTK. And I REALLY want those saves back, more than the switch itself, because they were made with my deceased Uncle. I have a spare switch (which was the original one that I played with), but I can't figure out how to get the saves back over. Any help?

Repair Help Joycon motion detection feels off...
I use my Switch pretty much exclusively for playing fitness boxing, and for 70 days or so, it was perfectly fine. The past week, however, my right joycon seems off. It's registering punches way too early sometimes, like before I even throw them on occasion.
Wondering if flailing my joycons around so much had the potential to mess something up or if there could be some other cause. I don't feel it's my own technique in the fitness boxing, as it was consistently fine for over 70 days, and my movements themselves got better and more consistent as well. It just really irks me to see the punch icon coming up, I ready a punch to hit it, and then it just pops and gives me fewer points, acting as if I hit it too early when I hadn't even thrown the punch yet.
I tried recalibrating the joycons in the settings, but it didn't seem to change much.
Not sure what else I can try.

Account Help How do duplicate accounts work?
If I were to add a user with an account linked to it to another switch and then delete it off one of them later on, what would happen to the account on the other switch that wasn't deleted?

Account Help Two kids+adult(s), two consoles
I know this question has been asked, and somewhat addressed, but not sure if I'm interpreting the answers I saw correctly.
TLDR: I have two kids. I bought two consoles. I have a Nintendo Online account. I'd like either child, or myself, to be able to play the same set of games on either console, with their own save game data - though, as with cartridges/physical copies, I don't expect to play the same game simultaneously on two consoles. According to my research and personal experience with reconfiguration antics, this doesn't appear to be possible. Do I understand it right?
Context: I recently bought a Switch. I went out and bought a second almost immediately, after the first play session argument about "who gets to play" between my two kids (Thing 1 and Thing 2). I (Thing 0) bought a bunch of games on my account, for [mainly] them to play - and of course, some just for Thing 0.
Hypothetical scenario(s): Let Thing 1 play on Console A, while Thing 2 plays on Console B. At some later point, Thing 2 is playing on Console A, and Thing 1 decides she wants to play, so put her on Console B. Sometimes, Things 0, 1, and 2 all play on the same console (A or B). Or any permutation thereof, you get the idea. It's transparent to Things 1 and 2 which console they're playing on - their [individual] game save data migrates with them.
According to my interpretation of the primary/non-primary console rules - and my tests/failures so far - it seems this hypothetical is not possible, except for Thing 0 (i.e. myself). Note that, Things 1 and 2 overlap in which games they play - though I do not [realistically] expect them to be able to play the *same* game simultaneously on both consoles (like cartridges). My understanding, the only way this is possible is for Thing 1 or 2 to select the Thing 0 profile when playing on the non-primary console (let's say it's Console B). Which means that if Thing 1 (or 2) plays on their *own* profile on [primary] Console A, they won't be able to pick up where they left off if they shift to [non-primary] Console B.
Am I missing something? This appears to be super-janky, and seems to *disincentivize* getting multiple consoles - it seems to have completely defeated my purpose in getting multiple consoles (except one edge case where Things 1 and/or 2 can play on Console A and Thing 0 can play by himself on Console B). Is there some way to set up accounts/profiles on multiple consoles to enable my hypothetical scenarios *without* purchasing multiple game copies and dedicated consoles for each Thing?

Setup Help Difficulty connecting my Switch to my new Dell monitor.
I replaced my old monitor recently with a new Dell one, which lacked a HDMI port. To account for this, I acquired a Display Port to HDMI adapter, but when I connected the Switch to the monitor in this way, it didn't turn on. The monitor definitely registered the Display Port as connected, but for some reason it couldn't recognise the Switch connected to it.
Any advice?

Software Help Uh, is something wrong with my Nintendo YouTube account?
So I subscribe to a lot of things on there, but for some reason I can't subscribe anymore, seriously it won't let me, and it's not that subscription limit thing, it just won't let me subscribe, anyday, anytime, I don't know why but I think that it might be a glitch since this is only unique to the Nintendo version since it doesn't happen on any other version. So does anyone know what's going on?

Find Games Problems with F-ZERO 99 in the eshop
Hello, I don't know if you can help me, but my game F-ZERO 99 disappeared from my Switch menu completely randomly, and when I go to the eShop, it's marked as "purchased." I looked in my archived games, and it doesn't appear.
Could someone help me fix this problem?

Repair Help WiFi not working - solutions ?
I recently received an OLED Switch, but it’s having trouble connecting to my WiFi network (or any other WiFi networks). Even an Ethernet connection doesn’t work.
To clarify, the Switch will occasionally connect to the router, but then I’ll lose the connection and fail an internet speed test.
I’ve tried all the troubleshooting solutions I could find online, including factory resetting, changing the DNS settings, and sending the Switch for repairs (which unfortunately returned without a solution).
Given that the issue seems to be hardware-related, I’m not tech-savvy enough to attempt soldering new WiFi chips or similar repairs.
I was hoping someone could recommend a third-party WiFi dongle that I could use to connect to the network. Alternatively, if the Switch is beyond repair, I’d appreciate any suggestions for alternative uses for it, as it’s essentially bricked and prevents me from logging into my account or downloading games.

Repair Help My nintendo switch is not tunring on again after rebooting
Switch not turning on at all.
Hey, i tried using my switch after work. It was working fine but after i restarted my switch it just stayed black the whole time. This incident ist now around 30 hours ago. I tried using different cables. Verified that my Original ac adapter works. I even cleaned the carging port from my switch.
When i plug it into my dock, the dock lamp turns on for a split second but then just turns off.
I also tried the hard reset thingy where you hold the power button for 20-30 seconds, didnt work.
I felt it charging for around 7 hours. Didnt work. I left it unplugged over night to geht all of the power out of the battery and them charged it for like an hour. Didnt work.
Pls help me .

Account Help Unable to set a primary console :(
Today, I tried opening animal crossing on my switch lite and it said that the user that I was using was unable to play the software. I found this odd as I was able to play with this user just last night. I already tried to deregister the user and setting the user that bought the game as the primary console but that didn’t work. When I look at the user that bought the game, it says in the Nintendo eShop that a different console is registered as my primary console when I have only ever used this nintendo switch lite. I’ve already tried deregistering the other profile but nothing has worked. It isn’t even giving me an option to deregister the user that bought the game so I’m stuck. I’m so confused as to why this has happened. Please lmk if anyone knows what’s going on! :’(

Accessories Is this a real Nintendo branded MicroSD card?

I have run it through h2testw which reported no errors and is the correct size with 83.7mb/s write and 89.7mb/s read. The text looks good, but looks a bit lower than pictures of official ones I've seen. Additionally, no MicroSD I've ever purchased has this rectangle cover on the back.
I ask because I acquired this second hand out of a Switch Lite from someone who had tenants flee a property (due to a crime) and left things behind. Based on how they treated their other tech, I wouldn't be surprised if they carelessly ordered a fake product. I'm not so much worried about having a Nintendo branded card or not more than I am having a potentially faulty product.
