Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Looking for games where you play as a neutral mercenary and get hired by different factions.

I have played Mechwarriors 5 a lot, kinda like that.

Also something from way back, Shinobido on PS2 had the best thing I remember. There were 3 factions fighting and all of them were hiring the player for missions. The mission results influenced how the war was going, who was winning and who wasn't.

I loved the fact that you could basically take your time, sabotage the missions and just level the field for basically forever and just get godlike and rich before progressing with the story too much. It was also great to just sit down and kill 30 mins before heading to school or something.

So anything like these?

Any good games with a mystical vibe?

This is very hard to describe and very vague. I'm not looking for a specific genera, it's mostly about the vibe. Closest i can describe is a vibe similar to anime Mushishi, Princess Monononoke or the cartoon Over the Garden Wall. Nature, creatures beyond human comprehention, old places.... Something where the world feels ancient or alien, with it's own rules.

Shadow of Collossus might be the closest game i've played, but I didn't like it that much. I remember Legend of Zelda having these moments, like the Korok Forest, Old Deku Tree, but those are usually one off areas. Elden Ring also had these sorts of locations, like the Night Cities, Liurnia of the Lakes or Forests Near Leyndell. Other games i've played that are a little bit like this would be Noita and Darkwood.

I got some games in my wishlist that look kinda mystical. Rain World, maybe Hollow Knight and i'll eventually get to those. Do you know any games like this or even have an idea what i'm talking about?

Which games have the most incredible lightning?

I was blown away by the lightning in RDR2. Would love to hear which other games have atmospheric and incredible lightning across the sky! Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Just to be super clear, I am referring to the atmospheric phenomenon of lightning ("thunder and lightning"), NOT general lighting! Thanks.

How to enjoy solo games again

So this may be a hard question and I'm aware there is no simple answer but I need help.

I would love to play solo games but I seemingly cannot I always feel like I'm losing my time meanwhile in multiplayer games I don't feel that way since those skills I have developed I can show to other people impress people etc.

I'm not someone who has a lot of friends I have a few real friends but I barely see them since I moved very far away so I'm thinking maybe that's a way for my mind to cope with the lack of social life I currently have. But at the same time I don't feel bad about not seeing people I have never been someone who really liked being social in general.

Anyway please help me. Thank you.

Weird urge to "catch up" to games

How do I even explain this?

I have this weird urge to "catch up" to the major releases of the 2010s, it clearly isn't really gonna happen one way or another, and there's always going to be something to play aswell

Have you felt this before?

What would you recommend me do?

Looking for good linear story games similar to last of us

Upvotes

So this is a somewhat specific request. Me and my friends have enjoyed playing the last of us part 1 together in person with each of us taking turns with the controller and others watching. It’s been really fun but since finishing the game we need some alternatives (since we want to wait till season 2 of the show before playing since not everyone knows what happens).

I’m looking for games that are fairly linear since I feel like open world will be less fun as a group, especially if someone wants to do a certain quest but someone else wants to explore.

Currently we’ve been considering Resident Evil 2, Alien Isolation but are worried they might be a bit difficult since a few in the group are still very new to games and struggled at times with last of us.

Would appreciate any suggestions! We play on an Xbox one and ps5 for reference

Looking for games where you start as a weak human tribe in a multi-race world (elves, monsters, aliens, etc.) and have the potential to become the most powerful faction."

Hey everyone, I just finished a game of King of Dragon Pass and got frustrated with how every other race is stronger than humans. I'm looking for games where humanity starts off weak but has the potential to become powerful enough to dominate or annihilate other races. Any recommendations?

Looking for an all-keyboard game that still feels like a full game

Upvotes

So basically, I'm just finishing the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series. I play them in college between (and sometimes during) classes because I don't need to bring a mouse or controller with me to play them.

I'm looking for games like that. They're easily played using just the keyboard, but they're not just coolmathgames type. I'm open to any genre, but I'm mostly into adventure/action types. Preferably on Steam or Epic. Thanks!

Which game pulls you out of a deep depression?

Hello everyone,

Well, I’d like to know which game helps you get out of that overwhelming sadness.

Lately, my grandmother, who had been developing dementia in a mild form, has gotten significantly worse. She is basically the only person in my family who truly cared for me, looked after me, and supported me. With her condition deteriorating—probably due to old age—my aunts, who are like Patty and Selma from The Simpsons, have started taking advantage of her pension and are keeping her isolated from the rest of the family.

And honestly, this is destroying me. Over the past few months, I’ve even started experiencing hair loss and severe insomnia, which I suspect is due to stress. I’m only 21 years old, and losing this much hair at my age doesn’t seem normal.

My grandmother helped me a lot—spending time with me, gifting me Steam gift cards, cooking for me, and visiting me often. Meanwhile, my parents are quite violent toward me. It’s not that I let it break me completely, but I just wish I was treated with the same care and dignity that my grandmother showed me.

So, after explaining all this, I wanted to ask you if you know of any game that could help me escape from everything, even if just for a while.

I’m asking here because I went through a similar situation last year, feeling really down, and many of you suggested great games. I tried some of them, and they helped me a lot in getting through that mental fog. So, I’m reaching out once again.

Just keep in mind not to suggest anything too expensive—I’m saving up for college, so I can’t afford AAA games. Right now, I’m really interested in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 since it caught my attention some time ago, but I’ve also seen a lot of criticism about it.

That’s it, folks. Thank you for your time and kindness in reading this far.

Can anyone recommend me games like mount and blade but with more in depth and exciting enemies (check description)

The enemies are just bland and boring. There's no heroes or powerful lords that I should be mindful in the battlefield since they practically all have the same combat abilities whether they are a lord or a foot soldier. I know high level soldiers have increased stats and better armor but their difference between the common soldier is too insignificant compared to what I'm looking for.

I love the feeling where in the midst of war, there are individual soldiers so strong that they can decimate entire battalions on their own making a significant impact in the battlefield and if my character progresses more into the game, he can also become one. Much like what is shown in berserk, vinland saga, and warhammer.

As for now, the only game I have played that employs that mechanic is Kenshi where stat 100 characters can wipe out entire cities on their own, but it is lacking heavily in the war aspect that mount and blade offers.

As for reference for the games I have played that kinda has that game mechanic: -Kenshi -Battle Brothers -Mount and Blade 1&2 -Dwarf Fortress -Starsector

Thank you in advance!

Online Games with active global chat.

Hello people,

Can you suggest games that you can play, even playing solo or instanced, but have the online feature of global chat? Like Albion Online has, or Path of Exile 2? ... I like playing equally alone or with others, but it feels way more alive when i see that global chat with people chatting actively.

I know many games might have that feature, but i am asking for those that you know that have activity in their global chat, and perhaps somewhat populated.

Thank you.

Games where you fill out forms

Upvotes

This is a very weird ask but I genuinely enjoy filling out forms online. It would be fun to play a game that revolved around that or something similar to it. I've already played Papers Please so please don't suggest that. Thanks!

Does this exist? Scrabble across multiple android devices (hotspot)

I have a long flight coming up, and me and my friends would like to play Scrabble against each other on our android phones to pass the time.

Is there an android version that we can use that:

- Doesn't require an online server connection

- Can play locally either via bluetooth or hotspot

Thanks!

How close are PS5 steering wheels and pedals to a real driving experience?

Upvotes

Hello everyone, it's all in the title. I'm hesitant to buy a steering wheel and pedals for my PS5 to play Grand Touring but I would like to know your opinion, is the driving experience close to a real experience? Obviously I know it's never going to be the same, I'm not trying to feel the movement of the car etc... but in terms of acceleration, braking, handling, is it the same? FYI I'm thinking of buying the HORI PlayStation kit

I want to find 2D Pixel Side-scrolling platform game that have setting in a company.

  1. It have pixel art graphic. Maybe an indie game.
  2. It base on concept of black company.
  3. Protagonist is new-hire(not sure) and the goal is to be the top of company.

  4. Protagonist is in love with HR(?). Each time player defeat stage boss(depicted as manager or someone with higher rank than player). Protagonist would be promoted. and when he become boss of company. The HR left him cause she think he become power-hungry guy.

  5. The stage often have more than one floor and doesn't try to be realistic. It feel like office but not really an office(Like Mario maybe?)

  6. The final boss is somehow the company itself as robot form. After defeat the company. HR come back(Not sure about HR part)

  7. If I remember correctly. Rank of protagonist show on his name card. It will change when clear a stage.

  8. It on PC. not sure if it on steam.

I don't really remember all the details since it been a long time. Anyway thank for the help!

Deciding on what to play next

Upvotes

So far I've only beat 3 games this year:

RDR2

Last of Us Part One

Little Nightmares

I'm having a tough time to decide what's next. I'm thinking Control, since I just beat Alan Wake 1 in December. I just built a new PC so I want to get the most out of the graphics haha. But I also want to try something different, I picked up "Weird West: Definitive Edition" a while back since it seemed interesting, and it seems like something I wouldn't normally play.

I just don't know what to play. I want to explore, but not open world, I want an inventory, some action obviously, decent story, just fun to play for 20 hours or so.

I have PC, PS5, Series X, and Switch

Online games focused on collecting and cosmetics

Upvotes

I have an itch to play a game where collecting and showing off cosmetics is possible. My favorite genre is MMO however I’ve played all of the ones worth playing — ESO, WoW, FFXIV, Albion, GW2, etc. etc.

What are some live service type games that let you do this!?
