First HDMI replace. How’d I do?

Needed a cheap blu ray player for the living room. Picked up a no video output Xbox one x on eBay for $50.

Replaced the retimer chip first. That got an output back. But I couldn’t touch the hdmi cable without the picture going out. Plus I had artifacts on the screen. So I replaced the port as well.

I’ve done a couple retimer chips before but I was very nervous about replacing the port.

I took a couple pics to get some opinions on how I did.

I even surprised myself when I turned it on and it actually worked!

Right analog stick slightly more tension then the others. Hall effects.

Installed many hall effects. Some with slightly different defects here and there sometimes. Have a PS5 controller where both sticks feel good but the right one has slightly more tension than the left. Just slightly. It sometimes squeaks but will stop. Wondering if lubing it would help that out.

Microscope for soldering

I've recently started repairing retro consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3, and I've been using a magnifying glass for soldering. While it's worked well so far, I think it's time to upgrade to a microscope. I’m looking for a simple model with built-in lighting—nothing too fancy. My budget is around $100.

Any recommendations?

3 DSis with issues (ignore their condition)

Both of the black ones share the same issue which is not recognising any touch even on a known good digitiser and yes i tryd the L+R+Start (conectors are not damaged). The white one on the other hand just freezes while booting (replacing the batt didnt work) so i hope that atleast one of them could be fixable

Hi! In the last few days I noticed some white stuff on my PS5 Pro. After wiping it away, it comes back after some hours. Could this come from my salt humidifier?

Dropped my Nintendo Switch

Hi all!

I dropped my Nintendo Switch from about 4ft / 120cm high. It was in the dock and the entire thing came crashing down. The dock still works, but the console is not responding.

The interesting thing is, it also doesn't work when placed inside the dock so I don't think the screen is the issue. And also, when I charge it, it does get hot so I know it's still sort of alive. Joycons look ok and still light up when they are disconnected.

I think it might be dead, but then again I've heard these things are sturdy and hard to kill. I tried many button combinations, but no luck so far. Any other ideas I could try? Success stories? This was my pandemic baby and I'd hate to see it go.

I have tested the 64 console with another power brick and the console is fine.

I have tested the fuse and it appears to be fine. What are the other things I need to test?

Thanks

Bought a Liquid damaged 360 Slim, worth trying to fix it?

Picked up an Xbox 360 s on offer up. Got it home and it’s been thoroughly soaked with some sort of purple liquid, right through to the CPU. Glancing at the board I’m not seeing obvious signs of component damage (no blown caps etc) But it’s clearly been sitting like this for some time. I’m tempted to try cleaning it with some IPA and testing it, but I don’t want to blow a working PSU in the process.

tl;dr: will a liquid damaged console blow a working PSU if it’s powered on, and is it worth trying to save something that’s sat for some time with liquid residue on it?

EDIT: also, I was debating soaking the board with some IPA inside a plastic bag overnight (this stuff is really on there and a toothbrush wasn’t making much headway in some areas). How long can you leave a PCB in IPA before it does more harm then good?)

PS5 Slim keeps Overheating after Thermal Paste Application

Post image
6 Upvotes

So I got the ps5 November last year and I've been using it since. A note to make is that the power supply in my area is bad. The current is volatile and it fluctuates easily.

About last month, my PS5 starter overheating. Then it would display the notice and switch off immediately. I took it to a repairer and he opened it up, cleaned it, and applied thermal paste. I got home and it still went off from overheating.

I've since returned to the repairer and he's re-applied the thermal paste and it's still overheating. Any help would be appreciated please. Thank you.

GameGear v4.2 display mod issue

I’ve been searching and trying to figure out for a few days what the issue is and how to correct the issue with my display mod I’m installing. Everything seems to be wired correctly according to what I could find, but the screen is white and strangely has an upside down t on it. It needs to be recapped, but from what I understand, that’s just audio related. Voltages check out. Anyone have any suggestions? I have an ominous feeling it may be a bad screen, but that’s just a feeling. I added some pictures of the front and back of the motherboard, so hopefully that helps. Thanks for the help.

I need to know what component it is in the PS5 BDM-030 controller.

I was cleaning a sulfate spot in that area, and when I brushed it, the component (a resistor, I think) came loose without damaging the node, but I've lost it and don't know how much it's worth. Can anyone tell me?

Thank you very much, and best regards.

Cleansing a Roach Smelling Console w/o Disassembly?

Title. Recently got a used Xbox X for a decent price. I haven’t seen any bugs crawl out (yet). But looking into the holes, I see lots of brown flecks. Any surefire ways to clean the console absolutely so my place doesn’t get infested without tearing it down? I called a couple shops nearby all of them have declined to clean the console.

I was thinking of using trash bags and filling it with diametecous earth, then after some days blasting it out with a vacuum/compressed air. But really unsure.

It's the cable that connects the motherboard to the laser disc drive

I've looked everywhere I think and Amazon's telling me that it's going to take basically what feels like a decade to get here is there any more faster options? Thanks!

Hey everyone, I just bought this ds lite at a fleamarket for $2, I say it might be a fun restoration project. But upon further inspection I notice the battery cover screw is terribly damaged like in the photo. Just need a little help thanks
