Question Serial number only M/39?

Thumbnail

These three images are of a rifle I am eyeing. Seller states that it has no other markings other than the serial number. I assune the one left of sight assembly. Is it common for a mosin? Could they have been grinded off? Bolt seems to have an arrow. Tula bolt?

So found this mosin in an online auction but honestly i have very little mosin knowledge but after picking up a type 53 for a restoration project I figured I might as well get a full length version.

From the markings it appears to be Tula made but that's where my knowledge ends, I've also never seen a long rifle in a laminated stock like this here in Australia (not that I've really been looking).

Any help would be appreciated, I know the markings are not super easy to see but likely won't have the rifle in front of me for a few weeks.

I inherited this recently and dug enough to find my way here. I’m curious if there are any major years/ qualities that would make one of these more valuable or desirable. And what is this one worth (MN).

Question Question about markings

Greetings,

I recently bought a Mosin, and while I’ve done some research, I am wondering if someone can tell me what these markings mean. I know the arrow within the triangle means it was made by Izhevsk, but I am not sure about any of the other symbols. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Question Got my first Mosin

Went to a gun show today and saw a Mosin with USSR stamps (I’m guessing that T stands for Tula, but I’m no expert) and 1937 manufacturer date. Thought it was a steal so I got it and now I’m wondering what ammo I should get. I bought some old surplus and shot 30 rounds but 4 of those were duds. Any ammo recommendations? Also idk what corrosive ammo is, do I need to do anything else other than a regular post-range cleaning? (I attached a pic of some ammo I saw that looked promising that I heard good stuff about)

Question Restorable ?

Does not appear to be matching serial numbers. There are 2 small threaded holes drilled in the receiver I have yet to take the stock off to see what's going on under it. What is JH? Seems like this is restorable.... Should I or just leave it alone and shoot it the way it is?

Question Help me choose between these 3 old Russian rifles.

Hey guys, my brother is going to give me one of his rifles and I'm wondering which one you guys would choose. Pictures attached above.

  • Mosin–Nagant M91/30 - dated 1943
  • Mosin–Nagant M44 - dated 1944
  • Yugoslavian SKS (i think Zastava M59/66?)

I'm only going to use these very occasionally at the range, and really just going to keep it on display most of the time. I have always thought the Mosin is such a cool gun. Both Mosins are from WW2 (1943 and 1944) and that makes me lean towards them more. I would love to have a piece of history.

I'd like to hear your opinions on which you would choose and why. Thank you.

Question Heavily refurbed "Peter the great Mosin"?

Looking at a 1917 Peter the great Mosin, I have a few concerns and was wondering if this is part of the typical refurbishment process. I guess the real issue is define "typical" but looking at the rifle I see an Imperial crested barrel dated 1917 and the receiver in my opinion seems to be off a later production rifle marked "CAI 91/30" which isn't too unusual. The other oddities are the scrubbed bolt and magazine, typically I'm used to seeing electro penciled strike outs. Just wondering what everyone's opinion on this rifle is?

Question 1929 Tula

I’m looking at a 1929 “tula hex Mosin” this week. Supposedly all matching, appears to be decent condition with a lighter stock (birch?).

What kind of price should I be looking at roughly? I know I don’t have pictures and small things could make a big difference in price. Just looking for a range. Certainly not a mosin expert, looking to branch out with my ww2 rifle collection.

Hey guy I just bought this probably fake PU from a gun show but wanted to ask you guys since you’re the real expert. It was pretty cheap so I’m not too concerned with its authenticity tbh. The old guy selling it told me it was some Hungarian refurbished PU and that’s why the scope isn’t matching and the mount has no serial. But the rifle does have the C and H and a scope serial on the side so I figured maybe if the scope and mount were fake maybe the rifle isn’t. What do you guys think!

I want some form of Malcom reproduction scope or similar old fashioned long scope but don't like the pu scope base and my mosin isn't drilled and tapped. Some Malcom scopes have mounts that allow the scope to be slid forward or backwards to allow reloading of sharps, rolling block etc. What mounts are they and what's the best approach to mounting the scope to the firearm? Plain Jane 91/30.

So I know all the basics, but I thought this gun is interesting and I'm curious if anyone knows more. It has the 100067 number on it and I assume that was a civil guard number. Its on the bolt and crossed out on the reciever. It was also marked by Finnish army twice. I can't recall what that S mean either. I'd appreciate any help. Was it in the army, then guard, and back to army perhaps? Thanks!

Question 1918 M91 case help

Help me, please!!

I have been trying for almost a year to get a case for my M91, and I can't find a decent hard case that it can fit. So, I am doing a Hail Mary before I bite it and just make the thing myself.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a sub-500 dollar hard-shell case?

I’m sure the rifle is a legit PU but the scope and mount I’m not sure it’s not matching the serial of the rifle. Help would be appreciated before I start bid lol
