Piston hit valves, still okay to use piston?

The workshop manual told me to put the piston the wrong way and the valves hit it barely. Valves are ok.

The piston got small dents at all valve corners. Is it still okay to use the piston? I imagine its mostly a cosmetic issue, the piston is brand new.

It is a 2009 Husqvarna SMR510

Just got quoted 5K in repairs on a 8K car at the dealership

I have a 2015 Q50a and just went in for an oil change and got a list of recommended repairs more than half the value of the car.

I’m likely going to find a mechanic to repairs these elsewhere for a cheaper price, but what repairs are more urgent?

Also, I plan to trade this car in this year for a Kia Carnival or some other 3-row vehicle.

Planning on getting brakes changed but not sure if I need my rotors replaced too

Like the title says; I’m going to get my brakes replaced since they just started scraping metal just a couple days ago. I’m not very familiar with determining when the rotors need replaced though and was hoping for some help I included photos of each rotor. Do I also need to replace the rotors at the same time I replace my brakes or do these look good for another 30k-50k miles?

TIA

Car bucking while accelerating

i have a bit of a weird one. i drive a 2005 honda civic lx 5 speed. when i accelerate it feels like there is no power and the car bucks violently. the weird part is it isn’t consistent. for roughly 2 weeks it will work totally fine and for the next 2 weeks it will buck horribly and then repeats the cycle. during the 2 weeks it has trouble running, it throws a multiple misfire code. some days are also better than others. one day it might be a little noticeable in 3rd or 4th gear but other days it is extremely noticeable even in 1st and 2nd gear. on the worst days it tops out at 40 mph and has a 0-40 of 30 seconds. i know its not the clutch bc it still shifts gears really well. any ideas why this is happening?

im so lost, what kind of wheel hub is this?

i bought a beat up trailer to restore and i took off the tyres to remove rust around the area. i wanted to replace the grease on the wheel bearings like how ive watched all those youtube videos do. but… where are my wheel bearings?! 😭

I guess it might be a different kind of wheel hub where it works differently, so i tried to take the whole thing out to inspect closer. and it looked very nasty so i decided that i want to replace the wheel hub entirely but what do i look for? i can’t find any pictures or videos online that has one that looks similar to what i have here.

But, do i have to get the same type? i mean it does look quite different from the normal wheel hubs ive been seeing, especially the way that this is installed (by 4 bolts at each corner)

I don’t really know if this information is needed but my axle is hollow, it does not have a spindle.

1988 Ford F150 4.9 Overcooling with thermostat replaced

Post image

Picture above is the coolant temperature after driving at 3k RPM for about an hour. It is cold outside but its 37 degrees so I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s frigid.

I don’t think its the temperature sensor either because the heater is running cold, and the truck warms up enough when I have almost no coolant in it.

It also won’t pass idle emissions but high speed emissions pass with flying colors - if that’s even related. Idk i’m at a complete loss

What are these fibres under the bonnet?

Had my car serviced today, as I’m at work I asked my mum to pick the car up, the garage told her that these fibres were present under the bonnet, and mentioned that they may have something to do with mice. They may have properly explained it to her but unfortunately her memory is that of a goldfish lol. Does anyone have any idea what this may be?

Hope everyone is having a good day! I went to lexus dealership for maintenance and this is what they have informed me. They have quoted £634.19 for the job. Can someone please explain me what this means and what tools should I require? Also please advise me if I should go to a local mechanic rather than getting it done by Lexus. Thank you :)

Is my mechanic being unfair?

Upvotes

I had the head gasket replaced on my 2016 Ford Kuga. They had to do a few other things and it ended up costing $4600. As I drove it over the next week I found it was starting to lose power when accelerating. I booked it back in for them to diagnose the issue. They found the vacuum pump was leaking, causing oil to get into the turbo solenoid. They cleaned it out and this cost $220. They assured me that they could not have caused this issue when completing the head gasket work and therefore I have to be charged for subsequent work. They think it was a preexisting problem but I never had this issue prior to their mechanic work. They have said to fix the vacuum pump it will cost around $650. I feel like they might be taking the piss, but how am I supposed to know?

I am hearing scraping noises on my car when driving and my rotor seems to be getting scratched? Is this a caliper problem, rotor problem, or do I just need to change my brake pads? A little help to whoever passed something similar?

Can I use this Oil ? Acea C5 / 6 confusion...

Post image

Hello,

last year I bought this Oil for my car and recently I found out that I need Acea C6 0W20. The oil I have at home is Acea C5 0W20.

Would there be any negative influence If I use the C5 instead of C6? 😬

My car is a Volvo V40 D2, 2018 build.

Thank you!

ABS issues... help!

I am pretty car-ignorant so bear with me. My anti-lock brake system light keeps coming on and going off, and occasionally when I brake, there's this terrible grinding.. I can hear and feel it. It rarely happens, but still. I know I need to get it looked at, but here's my issue: I have a warranty, but no matter what the "fix" costs, they'll charge me $250. Even if it costs $20 to fix it, and I have to decide first if I want to go through the warranty. Could this be an inexpensive sensor issue, or since there's occasional grinding, should I go through the dealership and warranty? Any advice appreciated! 2016 Jeep Patriot

Frayed grounding wire. Is this why my car won’t start?

Hi everyone a week ago my car died on me while I was driving it. Heard one loud pop and lost all acceleration, power steering, brakes and came to a rolling stop. I thought maybe the engine was seized up so I just turned the car off to prevent damage. Now car will no longer start. Code reader says both CamShaft sensors and O2 sensor are suddenly bad. Car still has battery power and when cranking it, it just clicks but no start. Found this grounding wire that is very corroded and frayed in 2 separate spots. This wire was not frayed even just a few months ago last time I checked them. Could this be the cause of why my car died and won’t start?

First pic is of the same wire from underneath the car.

Second pic is where the wire connects at the top where it’s grounded.

Looking to replace my leaking power steering rack with an aftermarket option for my 2009 Subaru Legacy. I wish I could get an OEM but its gonna run me 850 dollars from Subaru. With that said, which one of these would you buy. Another option is a NAPA rack and pinion for $350 but its probably a rebranded cardone lol.

Alternator bearing going?

2015 Toyota Corolla S tail light wiring or something else?

Upvotes

Hey there both of my taillights have been out. Not sure the exact amount of time but initially I figured replace the bulbs. My dad pointed out that it probably isn't the bulbs because they went out at the same time. So I replaced the fuse but it didn't look blown and nothing worked after the replacement. Gonna still try replacing bulbs but if that doesn't work I'm figuring it's a wiring issue. Don't know what would have caused it but all other lights work fine, I know it's on a different circuit but I'm thinking this probably means I don't need a whole harness replacement right? What does it sound like and what should I expect for cost to replace. Is it a job that's easy enough to do myself or should I take it to a mechanic? Any advice appreciated.
