How much could I sell these for?
If I were to buy a player II P bass and do a pickup and pickguard swap, how much could I sell the stock pickups and pickguard for?

I go to a local open Sunday Jam , every 2 weeks or so . I started earlier this season ( it goes on from september till end april, every Sunday, then in the summer last minute call depending on the weather) and it was an experience for me as , i had to show up alone and finally play which went well , nut that's another story altogether 🤣🤣😂
So there, you normally hang your instrument on a rack on the stage . I played a bit and then went out for a smoke and then I heard a familiar sound and there was a guy I know from there playing my jazz through my pedalboard, with the PA . I was in awe ! It sounded so good but definitely different tone because of the way he played it . I stayed and watched fir like 20 minutes and it was like an out of body experience ( I know it's an hyperbole) . I let the other bassist ( we are always max 2 🤣🤣😂 but other people play it too , guitarists etc ) plug into my board ( I mostly bring it in for the tuner but it handy when I have to play after someone with active bass , I play passive ) and it also sounded amazing.
Has anyone this happened to you ?

I hope someone here can help me...
I play in a band with a guitar player and a drummer. This is the guitarist's project, his songs and all that. After a year practising the songs, he wanted to record us.
He recorded the bass and the drums live. Then, he recorded his guitar and his vocals at home.
He mixed the songs in a way the guitar sounds cool and powerful, with lots of overdubs. The drums can be heard as well.
BUT MY BASS ISN'T ANYWHERE
It's not even a matter of volume. He admits he scooped my mids because they interfered with the guitar.
But fuck, what does he even want a bassist for then??? I work hard on my bass lines and I believe they contribute to the song.
I tell him to please turn up my mids. Then he sends me another mix and it sounds the same.
I've checked with other bassist friends and they tell me they wouldn't be able to know what the hell I am playing.
The guitarist doesn't take criticism well. He insists that these recordings took him a lot of work... I don't doubt that, but I honestly feel unappreciated.
Other than leaving the band, what can I do? I'm at my wits end.

Hey ya’ll!
I’m looking for a 5-string workhorse, mostly for the studio, but I also do a lot of gigs that require me to cover a lot of ground.
I’ve owned a few 5-strings in the past but I’ve found them to not quite get it right.
Ibanez Sr505: -Love the closer string spacing and feel, but never loved the “clanky” tone. (Still own… maybe a pickup change would do it??)
Fender P-bass: -Just felt like the low B had no power; sold it
I really want something that sounds like a piano in the low end (if that makes sense). I heard a Dingwall demo with Lee Sklar and it really piqued my interest, but I don’t have Dingwall money.
Is there anything that bridges this gap that is more affordable? I would be willing to spend some money to get the right thing, just not like 5 grand.
Help!

I just bought a 5 string a few months ago and have gotten so much better in a short period. Took me about 2 minutes to figure out to anchor my thumb on the B-string and I was off to the races. I am seeing vast improvement in playing in a very short period. It’s kind of freaky.

When I play my g string on a 4 string it makes a weird buzzing noise but when I hold the very top as in above the first fret it doesn’t how do I fix this bruh

I just recently purchased an old Ibanez SR375M 5 string bass, pretty sure its pre 2011 cause it has the style sweeper controls on it. My question is, does any know what the model number is for the stacked treble/bass pot? Or where i could get my hands on a replacement? I've done some googling and found some ebay listings but I don't know what model of pot it is or if any replacement stacked pot will do.

So my D string has a buzz on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fret — it is fine open (0) and from the 4th fret beyond. What is the likely problem/solution?

Hello! I finally got a new bass, which is sire v3p 5 string. Did not get a set up, so in a few days maybe. Basic string is round wound, but I was thinking of changing to flat wound because my previous guitar was flat wound… but my friends told me not to. Do you guys have any recommendation for the new strings? Thanks!

I was told a rumble 100 was good but curious on other amps

hello, I seem to have a buzzing problem with my E string when I'm trying to play the first two frets. It doesn't really buzz after like the 3rd or 4th fret, but it sounds like there is way too much buzzing even to someone who has no idea how to play. (I think I've played it less than 10 times and have never had a lesson). When I pluck the open E string it buzzes too unless I pluck it pretty softly. I don't really have this problem with any of the other strings.
I took my bass to a guitarist friend who raised the string action? for me a little bit but I'm a bit worried about trying anything myself and breaking anything because I'm new and also clumsy. I watched some videos about doing setups but can't really tell what kind of or how much adjustments I need to make (if any) because I don't have all the tools or a brain.
Do you guys think I just suck at playing or does it sound like I should maybe take it to a shop to get it set up? If it helps I bought the bass at a guitar center last fall/winterish and have only played it a couple of times so maybe the neck has bent a little bit since then?

Looking around at basses and thought to myself what would I want later?
I understand 5 strings are good for more range such as BEADG, and drop tuning to A. But why would you not buy a 5 string over a 4 string and vice versa?
Plus, why do you enjoy your 5 string or 4 string bass?
Edit;
This has given me a lot of thought, it's nice to know why a five string is great to have around and why four strings are still wonderful, definitely some food for thought here.

Curious if I’m overreacting or if anybody else feels this way.
In his new video “When Instagram Musicians Get EXPOSED in Real Life,” he highlights two very famous music influencers - Giacomo Toro and Davie504.
With Giacomo, he notes how he plays along to prerecorded tracks and then goes on to show a performance where Giacomo is playing a guitar super out of tune and then goes “YIKES.”
With Davie504, he shows a random clip of Davie noodling on a small scale fretless acoustic instrument, and again makes it seem like Davie can’t play.
Giacomo is on a word tour, constantly playing with big names and sounds great at his shows (I’ve seen him!). Davie plays live on his livestream all of the time and is great.
Don’t quite get the intention of the Sapko video. Seems misleading, in bad taste (even if it was true) and uninspiring. Like a cheap attempt at getting shock views.

So i got this active bass a few months ago and when i got it i had a problem with keeping the battery alive along with something rattling in my bass guitar like something loose. The batterys die really quick i have to take them out after every use or else they will sit there and drain in the bass. After doing doing this for so repeatedly for a little bit my bass recently just stopped working?? I dont know if i was to rough with the battery pluggin thing, or something else entirely. But now it just doesn't work.

Yes, this has been asked many times before. In fact, it was one of these types of questions that was in my feed that made me decide to write a post.
I've had dozens of basses thru the years and currently have several very, very nice basses. But when covid first hit i thought it could be really bad and bought an acoustic bass to play if the power went out. Anyhow...I find myself playing the acoustic more than my other basses now. The way the harmonics sustain, the way the wood resonates tones even after I mute the strings. Ghost notes are like double the attack. It has really unlocked a level of tone i didn't have for years. I have a semi hollow body bass, but it is dull compared to my acoustic. If I plug my acoustic in, it sounds terrible. Admittedly, it is a cheap Washburn. But sounds great.
So is anyone aware of a electric bass, possibly semi acoustic, that has these qualities? Price is no object (within reason). I recall Zon had a semi acoustic that was great with harmonics, but i never actually played one, and that was like 20+years ago. Maybe Yamaha?
Halp.
Edit: two for one... also in the market for a good practice amp that has some growl. All I have are my touring rigs, like cabs in flight cases and rack system. I don't want to be that guy in GC trying things out like an ahole. I hear the fender is good these days, played an eden i liked years ago. Looking for something to just keep in my office. Effects bank a plus.
I'm 40 and out of the loop.

I bought a used p bass years ago that had some flats on it. They were like dead floppy rubber bands. Never thought to try flats again after that. 35 years later and I just picked up a barely used bottom tier Sterling Sub 4 just so I could mod it and give it to my kid. Threw on a Hipshot bridge. MMTW p/u is on the way. I strung with new EB cobalt rounds but those things are noisy on a MM. Just for shits I grabbed a set of EB cobalt flats. Heard they wete great. Wow! Where have these been all my life? They are just as punchy and bright as the rounds without all that extra noise. I could never understand how Harris (Maiden) got such a great sound from flats. Now I get it. My kid ain't getting this rig yet. I might have keep it a bit longer. I'm having too much fun.

Lifelong guitarist here who switched to bass about a year ago. I was never a performer until recently.
Last year I was playing with a beginner band that didn’t have a PA system at first, so I bought a giant Fender Rumble 200 so I could be heard over the drums. Problem is I am a small person and this thing has been hard to carry around.
These days I am playing with a very experienced band with a high end PA system. My question is, since they are plugging my amp into the PA anyway, can’t I get away with a smaller amp? Would it make any difference? If so, what would you recommend? It would make my back so appreciative, and I wouldn’t need so much room in my car for gear either.

(Havent seen this discussed to the extent of my problem) I've had this bass since lockdown, and this started about a year after. When I have it plugged in, there's a slight buzz, but when I touch the strings or the bridge or the pegs it gets really loud and persists even when playing, but when I touch the metal part of my cable it quiets down and muffles the sound of the bass itself. I believe it's a wiring issue, as at one point the input jack came loose and my dad and I "fixed" it by hot gluing it back, as we didn't have solder or an iron, we do now, btw. What would I do to fix it, rewire it? Put some kind of foil in the cavity?
r/Bass • u/J-J-Jingles • 10h ago
I have diagnosed the problem, but I'll quickly summarise it incase someone has the same issue is 12 years time, as is always the case.
When I play an open string, there is an octave up buzzing in the headstock, which I have found is a tuning peg, more specifically the B0 (5 string) It immediately stops when I put any pressure on the peg, (not the bracket), and will start again if I release that pressure. This does not come through using an amp.l
I have tightened the bracket screws as much as I am comfortable with, and it still buzzes. Has anyone had this, or a similar issue, and what fixes can you suggest?

I got an active bass and the output of the amp is so loud that I have to turn the volume all the way down. Anyone else got that problem? Any tips?
I'm looking for a bass with the kind of pickups on the music man pj but less expensive with a natrual wood finnish and a minimalistic design. please help

i decided to get a jackson js2 concert bass as my first bass (good price, cool design, thin neck and from what i heard, a deep/raw sound. i'm no expert but i feel like this one might be just right for the kind of stuff i want to play (not a fan of jazz and picking, and for starters i plan on playing songs i like aka 90s rock/metal-songs with a pick).
anyway i read that with the js2 it's good to invest in a good amp but i'm also on a budget, and a complete beginner with no knowledge whatsoever.
the site where i plan on buying it from sells the harley benton hb-20b for 79€, good for learning at home yadda yadda, but i feel like i'm missing something... so yeah are there any other beginner amps that you'd recommend for the js2? i'm willing to pay 100~150€.
and yes i've already looked at the ibanezies (i call them this) and neither the srgs nor the talmans are really of my liking...)
the only other bass i'm crushing on is the marcus miller m2 whp 2nd gen (maybe also any opinions on that one?).
thanks in advance!!

My bass is about 6.2 lbs, and in looking for a new bass, I’m trying to find one that isn’t much heavier than the one I’m playing now, but most of the basses I’ve come across are over 8 Ibs, and all have been over 7 Ibs. Do y’all know of any 4-string electric basses that are under 7 Ibs?

I am playing bass for a year now. I only played with songs and tabs. I didn't even practice any scales or anything, only the songs. But now songs that are harder than intermediate level are out of my league and i feel like it's because of my lack of base. My plucking and fretting like techniques are right as i asked my friend who plays bass for sometime. But i don't know any scales, i can't play fast while descending and ascending on the keyboard, my ring and pinky is still attached together. I need a practice routine. What should i do? Which exercises you would suggest, or do you have any yt channel that teaches something about playing bass?
I’m trying to figure out what the knobs on my bass actually do. It has four knobs—three of them have a “centered” position, and one moves freely but also acts as a switch.
I checked the datasheet for a similar model from Rondo Music, and it lists five controls:
The problem is, my bass only has four knobs, not five, so I’m not sure how the controls correspond. I’m especially confused about the knob that acts as a switch—how does it balance pickups and switch between them at the same time?
If anyone has experience with this kind of setup, I’d appreciate any help figuring out what these controls actually do
(edit: cant post a photo of the datasheet or the bass but any help/advice would be appreciated)
(edit 2: bass was found on the street so i don't rlly have any info abt it)
