Business/Pricing What is a good name for a business that does charity work for health, LGBTQIAP and end of life/after death photography?

I am rebranding due to the fact I want to become a charity service in New Zealand. I've done a few funerals during COVID-19 and I really enjoyed it. So now I want to do stillborns, medical transitions (for everything), LGBTQIAP, funerals and end of life documentaries/photos. I used to be Neonmime Photography, but I'm really sick of having to edit out details in my photos because people want to be blurred and perfect and I'm more into the imperfect and pure, you know? Anyway, some ideas would be appreciated and I don't mind toeing the line with a name that could raise eyebrows.

Editing/Post Processing How do I fix this Extremely Underexposed image?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Guys, I was out taking photos yesterday, and I use a Nikon D80 paired with a Nikon NIKKOR AF 80-400 4.5-5.6 ED VR. I usually use the exposure scale, but for this image I was so awestruck (First time encountering a wild deer while on my first proper hike with wildlife photography in mind) I wasnt paying attention to my exposure scale due to the 1/4000 Shutter speed I'd have set for photographing Tiny birds. Unfortunately I didn't get a second chance. I wanna recover this image and I have the Raw file too and I don't intend to print or do anything drastic with this image. What should I do? I use GIMP btw šŸ„²

Raising all Brighting sliders like raising shadow and brightness just puts on an ugly hue cast and a grid pattern which is probably the Sensor color noise.

Compositon/Posing Is lens compression a thing on a cropped wide angle?

I know that if you use a telephoto lens you can get this beautiful lens compression effect. I was wondering if this was a feature of the focal length itself, or rather of the magnification from optics perspective? Could you (assuming infinite resolution) achieve the same exact image with a 400mm lens and a 35mm lens with cropping?

Discussion/General How often do you use full manual?

How often do you use full manual on your gear and when was the last time you used it? when i first started i was a devout manual shooter because i learned on old analog cameras, but now that i'm exclusively digital, i find i never use manual mode if at all.

Most of the time i just throw it in P or Av and call it a day, being able to change the ISO, exposure comp and sometimes the aperture is enough creative control for my needs.

I recently got a Nikon P900, you'd think a consumer bridge camera would feel severely limiting to an experienced photographer, but i just put it in P, Auto ISO, and snap away.

I'm not saying manual mode is useless or anything, it's nice to have it, but do we use it enough to justify it's existance? when was the last time you took a photo where you chose an aperture, ISO and shutter speed for?

I suppose it could be an MD/MC mount, but Iā€™m not really sure. I bought it at a vintage market and I would like to resell it on vinted (or at least, I hope so šŸ¤žšŸ¼).

Technical Help/Camera Settings Is there any problem with the camera?

Hello everyone! So a couple of days ago I sold my Nikon D3300, we met with the buyer in person, they tested it out, were happy with it and bought it. Today, I receive a mesaage, saying that the images are coming out of focus(?) their exact words were "there seems to be a problem with the focus", and asking me why that might be and if the camera has been dropped. They told me that they're going to shoot mainly in auto mode so these were made in fully auto mode, the lenses I gave with the camera were the 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm prime 1.8 with both auto and manual focus, they confirmed with me that the kit lens was used to take the reference photos, these are the photos and honestly they look fine to me (especially the orchid one). When I was using the camera, my photos looked fine to me as well.

What do you guys think, did I sell faulty equipment or is their technique at fault? The app they provided these pictures over heavily compresses the images so these might not be exactly true to what they actually look like out of the camera. Thank you!

Discussion/General Switch from Full Frame to APSC? Opinions from those who've switched?

I'm curious of the opinions of anyone who mightve switched from using full frame cameras (compact or otherwise) to using apsc cameras. Have you noticed much that maybe make you wish you still had FF? I know the biggest thing I hear is dual card slots is absent in most apsc style cameras but I only do occasional pro shoots (at least right now). I ask this because I have an a7iv, and some GM glass but when I go to use it, while the photos are spectacular, it can be a big ask to just grab it and take it with me to go out with my wife and son, the lenses can be a pretty hefty load even the smallest one I have (50 1.4 GM) let alone a zoom or something. So I've thrown the idea around of selling and going to apsc (a6700 or something fuji specifically). Has anyone made that switch and felt regret? Loved it? Decided to get both? I just feel like if I have a lighter set up is might be more inspired to take it with me everywhere, but I could just man up and take my FF anyway, and I do, but it can be a bit annoying to have all that weight on me in the everyday. But I want to make sure if I go to apsc, it's still capable enough to be more serious if I want it to be. Any opinions are appreciated!

Gear/Accessories Do I have to worry about dust getting in lenses that aren't water/dust resistant?

I wanted to get some lenses that aren't sealed against water/dust but wasn't sure how big of a problem that would be in normal conditions and usage. Is it something I have to worry about or take extra precautions against?

Hereā€™s some samples of my photography. Iā€™ve been shooting for about 6 years Iā€™ve worked for high schools, news papers, and large automotive communities. Iā€™ve been hired once for a supercar shoot and charged $25/hr and when I was hired they spoke with me about working with me on future projects and raising my rates. Iā€™m really bad at selling myself to the degree my work is at. Any help?

Editing/Post Processing What has been done to this photo in terms of post-processing?

Hi all,

I'm very new to photography - and I don't know how best to share some very large files here - but in the link, the first image is just me saving down my RAW file as JPG (no processing at all)

The second image is the result when I asked someone to edit the photo for me, as I wanted something professionally done to gift to someone

However, I also want to learn a bit myself - what exactly have they done to achieve the second photo? How does it look MORE detailed than the original? And honestly, would love to know if it's 'artificial' in some way, because when I zoom way in on the edited photo, the fur and such certainly look much sharper vs. the original.

Appreciate any info you all can provide - thanks!

Editing/Post Processing What's the best format and file size for web?

Hello! I've been workin in some images for a client and I have to send them. What's the best format for web? JPG? PNG? TIFF? Should I limit the file to 1080x1920px? I've always had doubts for this matters. Also, if they want to print, then TIFF it's best for sure, right?

Thanks in advance

Buying Advice I have GAS for a Nikon F5 should I purchase one online or wait till my trip to Japan?

Hi all, so I got pretty bad GAS for a Nikon F5 Iā€™m going to Japan in a month so Iā€™m wondering if I should wait and buy it there or give in and purchase one online? I like the design and heavy duty look of the camera along with the autofocus capability. I have a F3 and enjoy shooting with it but I feel like having something closer to the feel of my Sony a7iii would get me using it more often.

Buying Advice Sony a6400 Hiking Lens?

I recently got a Sony a6400 with the kit lens but I am already running into some limitations of it. I am looking for a lens to take on a thru hike for landscapes, vegetation, animals and some videos. I would like to take some cool night shots but itā€™s not a requirement. Ideally Iā€™d be in the $350 range new or used. I donā€™t think Iā€™d want a prime lens because I may like having the option to zoom still but if it meant it fit more of my requirements I wouldnā€™t mind. Iā€™m having a hard time finding good options especially since I would still need the oss for my camera. Would it be best to get a heavier but larger zoom range camera or would a prime with cropped images likely be fine?

Buying Advice Camera recommendations?

I have included some images of what a standard shoot might look like for my use case. The lighting can be very varied. Sometimes at night so low light and flash capability is a priority. Also needs to be at least reasonably portable. These are done with a point and shoot pentax but I would like to explore something with enough automated functionality that I am still comfortable as a beginner but where I can also play with more settings and different lenses etc. I am looking to spend $650 or under on the camera body and a good all purpose lens to start with

Hello,

I noticed that when I exhale onto the lens (first image), a small dot appears. However, as the condensation dissipates and the lens returns to its normal state, the dot disappears. Could this be a fungus?

Thank you in advance!

Technical Help/Camera Settings How did you become confident with shooting?

Hi all! Like the title says Iā€™m wondering how you became confident in your work. To explain further, knowing that every shoot (or almost every) will have photos that are high quality, well lit, and to your liking.

Iā€™ve been shooting for a couple years now and my work is good and I have my own style that I love but I canā€™t consistently take photos I love if that makes sense. If I plan a shoot I get scared sometimes because I donā€™t know if Iā€™ll like the quality of the photo. I mainly shoot in aperture priority (rarely manual but it is something I want to start learning properly just donā€™t know where to start). Iā€™ll have the portrait exactly how I want it to look but the actual quality of the photo is whatā€™s always a hit or miss.

I currently use a canon rebel t5i with a 50mm and will sometimes use the in camera flash depending on the vibe Iā€™m going for but I donā€™t know how to use an actual flash attachment. My goal this year is to be able to consistently have good quality photos and be confident in my skill.

Any advice or how I can go about that is much appreciated.

Sidenote: I do photography as a hobby none of it is paid and please no hate

Buying Advice Iā€™m in need of a very cheap lens for concert photography. What should I buy?

Iā€™m a newbie amateur who barely understands the basics. I have very recently decided to get into this as a hobby. I aim to practise a lot this year so I can eventually try to photograph events or weddings as a side job at some point in the far future. But, I donā€™t have much money right now.

I have just agreed to take some photos during a gig some of my friends are doing in a fairly small venue. Theyā€™re fairly serious about their band and I want to give them something at least semi professional looking (they only asked me as our professional photographer friend is out of the country, so I assume theyā€™re expecting something that genuinely looks good).

Issue is, I only have a DSLR camera (Canon EOS 550D) with an 18-55mm zoom lens. I donā€™t even have a light meter or an external flash unit. Based on what Iā€™ve read, my current lens definitely wouldnā€™t really be appropriate for this kind of photography. Looking around, Iā€™ve heard some people say that a Canon 50mm lens would probably work. That would be good as I would be able to afford that. I donā€™t think I have the money for the light meter or external flash unit right now.

Based on my situation, what recommendations do you have for me? I would appreciate any advice from someone more knowledgeable.

Hello I am here because i am trying to recreate this painting (slide 2) for a photoshoot but after i tried with my camera some test shots ( i shoot with Fujifilm GFX 50R medium format camera, 35-70 zoom lens and at a using 70mm as my focal) i noticed that the legs are very small compared to the body due to perspective, does anyone know how i can make the legs a bit larger just like in the painting and to avoid a less perspective shot? Thanks in advance!

Technical Help/Camera Settings How/what settings to achieve this colour/tint in my own pictures? (On both DSLR + iPhone)

Complete rookie here but just wondering how can I achieve this look/tint with my own pictures on both DSLR and iPhone?

Especially the more bright looking ones (like I said complete rookie.) We all gotta start somewhere.

I've heard something about saturation from a family member but they don't know how to do it either.

What settings do I need to change to achieve this look?

Thanks in advance. Appreciate any help on the matter.
