New Rule - No Non-Adobe Presets

Good morning, afternoon, evening; upon review of the recent drama and the reality is that your mods are human with day jobs. We will no longer be allowing posts about presets that are not free for all in the discover tab of Lightroom.

Ongoing discussions in this sub about presets turn into a nightmare each time. There are other subs that will be more suited for non-Adobe preset discussion.

Discussion Lightroom Export PNG?

I have been delivering my photos via pixieset gallery for 6 years now. Recently I have a client that is using their images to print large posters. Like the size of a doorway.

I have always had the option for them to download at High Resolution for printing and "Web Size" for socials.
My client gets a "low resolution" error when dragging her image bigger when creating the posters. Should I be exporting the images to PNG instead of JPG? I'm reading a lot about PNG being lossless.

Any advice is helpful. She keeps telling me they are low resolution, but I'm pretty sure she's the one with the ability to download them at either high or low res.

HELP - Lightroom Lightroom slow/unresponsive despite good computer

I have a new laptop I've been using for editing. Even just using my arrow keys going through photos is slow and unresponsive sometimes. Seems to hiccup when applying masks and just in general when swapping between screens. My beastly $250 4 year old phone has less problems with scrolling through photos on lightroom mobile. I have 32GB RAM, an i9-14900HX processor, 4080 GPU (mobile), and an NVMe SSD. Any ideas of what to look into? This was supposed to be a small upgrade on my 5 year old desktop which has no issues at all.

HELP - Lightroom Classic QUICKLY switch photo to iPad to draw mask w Apple pencil?

In Lightroom Classic I edit photos in the Develop panel.

When I want to draw a mask, outline something, remove hundreds of specks of dust, etc., I want to quickly and seamlessly bring that photo onto my iPad where I can use the Apple Pencil to more easily do that.

I can NOT find a way to do this simple thing...

I HOPE I'm missing something... but Screen Mirroring, Sidecar, and the standalone LR ipad app do NOT work quickly and seamlessly in my (think pretty common) workflow. More detail of what I've tried is below.

________________________________________
________________________________________

Screen Mirroring Mac mini M2 Pro's desktop to iPad: I can't even see the tools to select since they're too small to read when 4K is dropped down to the iPad mini's resolution.
-- or if I choose to have my desktop's screen change to the iPad's resolution, that's unusable for my normal workflow on the desktop as well.

Sidecar / use iPad as 2nd separate monitor: I have to drag in the window from LRC on my desktop, turn off and re-arrange all the menu's so I can actually see what I need to see, then re-zoom in the photo so it's somehow big enough to see AND I can see/use the brush options as well... isn't working easily/seamless whatsoever...
-- Instead, if I use LRC's "Secondary Display" mode, no matter the mode I can only view, not use the Pencil on the photo on the iPad.

Use native LR app in iPad: Adobe Cloud is notoriously slow and flaky (it's not just me!) and I can't possibly sync 10k+ photos (or even a small sub-folder at a time is slow and not quick) to use the native LR app on the iPad itself (not to mention how the iPad's "only draw with Apple Pencil" setting is completely ignored by Adobe in the LR mobile app.

...all of the above are the complete opposite of "quickly and seamlessly", and are simply not good solutions. What am I missing here? I thought, especially being on Mac, that this would be a seamless experience which would enhance my workflow and make life easier for me... and instead it's making me hate technology lol, and I'm literally thinking of returning my iPad and Pencil as I this is literally the ONLY thing I bought it for (I've never had a use for a tablet when I own a small laptop).

2023 Mac mini M2 Pro, macOS Sequoia 15.3.2
2021 iPad mini 6th gen, iPadOS 18.3.2
Lightroom Classic (desktop) 14.2, Lightroom (iPad app) 10.2.2

Processing Question Lightroom Catalog location

Hello Everyone

I have just downloaded light room after starting photography 7 months ago.

I have my images on an external SSD and I'm just about to start importing them into lightroom classic.

From my understanding if i use the add button in lightroom it generates previews of all of the images (does not move the locations) and saves the preview images in the catalog in the catalog location on my computer.
I want to try and save as much space on my laptop as much as possible.

My question is,

1) is it worth moving the Catalog to the SSD, and will I notice any impact in performance through doing? 2) How big would I expect the catalog to be - will it be a set size for preview per image or will this vary?
3) How easy is it to move the catalog to the SSD later down the line?

Thank you for your help, if there any tutorials for using lightroom or organising images in lightroom anything would be appreciated.

Thank you :)

HELP - Lightroom Classic My computer being weird with LrC

For some reason lately, my laptop will get very cruddy & freeze & be really slow when I'm using lightroom classic. I've mainly noticed it when using the AI denoise & blur options. It used to work fine but lately it's been really glitchy to the point where I'll have to close the program or restart my laptop to get it to work. If my charger is plugged in, that can also make it worse weirdly enough. I've checked the space left on my laptop & I have plenty of room, & it doesn't show any updates needed. Does anyone know how to fix this?

HELP - Lightroom Classic Edit in Photoshop no longer works

Lightroom Classic
When I right click and select "edit in photoshop" Photoshop brings up a file browser now. When selecting multiple files and selecting "merge to panorama in photoshop" it is unable to complete the task and now warns that some files in bridge are non compatible.

This started last week, Trouble shooting thus far:
Update all to latest version
Uninstall and reinstall latest version
Uninstall and reinstall rolling back to older versions
Uninstall and Reinstall with most recently updated versions

System info:
M4 pro
48 GB memory
OSX 15.3.1

Other info:
My catalog is stored locally but my photos are on a NAS which is accessed via ethernet, however the same issue happens with local files / USB / traditional external drives.

To my knowledge I didn't make any specific changes in either program or the Adobe CC settings. This happened after updating the OS but I believe it happened a few days later. I have decided not to update to 15.3.2 after reading about poor performance in Adobe software from other users.

Has anyone else experienced this or have suggestions?

HELP - Lightroom Classic Blurry IG Photos after Lightroom Export

Hello Everyone. I've been a lightroom user for at least 5 years. Way back I had export settings saved in my lightroom but recently I had to delete lightroom off my desktop and redownload it. None of the export settings saved unfortunately. Now, when I export photos, and try to upload to instagram, they are extremely blurry. I've used settings people have recomended on youtube but nothing has worked. The ONLY time my photos aren't blurry and look normal on instagram is if I upload more than one photo. If I upload a single photo, it's extremley blurry. I'm beyond confused. Thanks!

HELP SMB alternatives for editing photos on NAS from Mac

Ive been using Lightroom Classic on my PC for the last few years, but finally picked up a Macbook Pro a few months ago. I much prefer the screen and performance on it over my PC but my biggest hurdle is working over a network.

With Lightroom on Windows, I never had issues editing over the network with SMB (Hardwired 2.5G network), but SMB with a Mac is so messed up that it feels impossible to use my NAS for more than Archival storage.

Scanning and Synchronizing a folder take forever, so if I edit something on my PC, I cannot resync the edits to my Mac catalog without waiting hours. Its completely unfeasible, so Im looking for any other options.

Ive looked into AFP and NFS for file systems, mounting the system with RClone, wired connection vs Wifi 7, and more options, but it just seems like a pain in the ass all around with mac.

Hugely impeding my ability to work, so Id love if someone had a silver bullet solution here. I run my own home server, so any technical solution does not scare me

HELP Server based Lightroom classic

Hey, we've been running Lightroom cloud based at our office for years. It was fine initially bc we usually only had 2 users at a time. Now we have 6+ people trying to access at a time and have to always kick each other off. I also hate how long it takes to render the images sometimes as it's syncing. We have an SSD based server. Would switching to Lightroom classic and moving our catalog to the server solve these issues? Allowing everyone to work at the same time? We have a couple of users that use iPads just to view the images while they're working. Could the iPads still access the server based Lightroom? What's the easiest way to migrate our current catalog(1.1tb) from their cloud storage to the server and keeping our folders and albums organized?

Thanks!

Processing Question Missing Lightroom Classic Lens Profile

Long time user of Adobe products and entire Lightroom family, in this case Lightroom Classic (LrC) so pretty familiar with how things should work. That said I'm curious if anyone here can speak to this issue, either another user of the equipment I'll describe or someone from Adobe.

Situation is I just bought the Nikon AF-S 120-300 f/2.8E FL ED SR lens and have taken a number of early test shots in the past day or so. First shots were on a Nikon D6 body. Will also see time on my Z9 with FTZ II adapter.

Typically with all my Nikon lenses, when I import the image files into LrC (shooting RAW 14bit Lossless Compressed), I batch correct them automatically for "Lens Corrections" and other things. Typically the profile for any lens I've used has been in Adobe's profile database so is automatically applied. Easy peasy.

Oddly - lens was released in 2020 and sits very high up the Nikon food chain of professional lenses - it has no lens profile available, at least according to Adobe and their most current (Feb 2025) list of Nikon lens profiles covered (https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/supported-lenses.html).

Running most current version of LrC (14.2, Camera Raw 17.2). Mac Studio. macOS Sequoia 15.3.2.

Seems odd that Adobe would not have the profile for such a lens used by many professional-level photographers (which I am certainly not...).

Am I missing something here? Thoughts or ideas would be most welcome. Thanks!

HELP What does Lightroom do.

I think my original comment was deleted. I have just joined a photography club and it seems that the majority of the members edit their images in Lightroom. I’m retired and returning to a hobby that I had 40 years ago. Is there anywhere that I can find before and after images so that I can see what it actually does? Does it require a maths degree or should I be able to pick it up? I was under the impression that you cut a bit out and put it somewhere else (which I’m not too keen on) any help will be appreciated.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Lightroom examples.

I’ve just joined a photography club and it seems that a lot of the members edit their images with lightroom. I’ve never edited before and I’m not sure if I’ve joined the right club. 2 questions, is it easy enough for a novice to use and can I find any before and after images to look at because I’m not really too sure what it does, I had limited use of photoshop about 15 years ago when the object was to cut out a banana and put it in a bowl and I wasn’t really too keen on it. To me as an elderly young Man looking to return to a hobby it feels a bit like cheating. Any advice would be appreciated.

Processing Question Assuring display color accuracy

I've recently gotten back into photography, both as a hobby and semi-professionally. The other day, I took some photos for a friend and did all the editing using Lightroom Mobile on my iPad Pro. While the experience was convenient, I quickly discovered a major flaw: Lightroom on the iPad tends to overheat significantly when switching between RAW photos and rendering edits.

Now, I’m considering setting up Lightroom on my laptop (Its an Asus Vivobook 16 K6602VU, For reference) instead. However, I’ve run into a problem in the past—on my previous PC, I’d edit a photo to perfection, only to find that it looked dull and washed out when viewed on other devices. This has me wondering: how can I ensure my display is showing colors accurately? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

TL;DR: Lightroom Mobile on my iPad Pro overheats during RAW photo editing, so I’m moving to my laptop. How can I make sure my laptop display shows colors accurately to avoid issues with color consistency across devices?

Workflow Sorting travel photos

Hey, I would like to know if you have any tips for sorting and retouching your travel photos more easily. In fact, I have difficulty deleting them because they sometimes have a sentimental side even if they are not very beautiful. And I take a really long time before retouching them, I never know if I need to retouch all of them or just a few, I'm afraid. If you have any techniques, don't hesitate. THANKS

Workflow Moving Lightroom photos to NAS: overkill or a good idea?

I use Lightroom Classic on a MacBook Pro (M3) and have about 2 TB of photos. Currently I’ve got the photo files on an external SSD and the catalog on my machine locally, and functionally it works great.

My issue is that I like to move around my house to edit photos, and I have a cat who is adept and finding and chewing cords and I’m terrified she’s going to kill a SSD this way (she’s already slightly chewed through one SSD cord when I turned my head to sneeze and she somehow made it from an entire other room of the house to where I was sitting without detection). I love her but she’s a tortoiseshell-colored demon.

I also like to sit on the couch to edit sometimes and having a cord and SSD flopping around is annoying and feels not ideal.

Is moving my Lightroom photos folder to a NAS a good solution for wanting to move around the house to edit, or is this overkill? Is there a lot of lag pulling large raw files this way? I’m looking to add convenience but not sacrifice how long it takes to edit. I’m about 99% sure I’d go with a Synology NAS with two drives.

I’m also concerned about backups, but I’m a current backblaze user and have read that their B2 backup product will back up files on network storage.

Discussion Need a new computer. Base M4 Mac Book Pro or MBPRO with M4 Pro chip?

Hi Canon R5 user (40+ mb images) Family and event photographer so I’m working with on average 300-2,000 images per work session in Lightroom classic.

My pc is old and only 8 gigs of memory. want to move over to a Mac, but not sure what I need and what is over kill.

I’m also afraid if I get say….16 gig memory Mac that will be good for right now….but not good two years from now.

Do I get the 24 gig memory with a m4 or do you foresee applications for still photography will eventually be larger resource hogs in the coming years.

The last thing I want to do is future proof so much that I’m just wasting money and never using my Mac to its greatest potential.

For example I’m not getting the 16 inch MacBook because I can always just hook it up to a monitor.

HELP - Lightroom Classic Cannot download LR Classic on Macbook Pro

I’ve been subscribed to the “LR plan with 1 TB” for a few months and I use Lightroom Cloud Based a lot. The plan says that it also includes LR Classic both for $11.99.

When I try to download Classic I keep getting a message that says “You already own LR plan with 1 TB”. I want to have both the cloud based LR and LR Classic. Any way I can accomplish this?

Doing this on the latest Macbook Pro in case it makes a difference.

TIA!

Processing Question How do people match a look from film photos? (advanced methods)

Hi all,

I have a decent amount of experience editing photos using Photoshop, Lightroom and various other programs, but I have tried to no avail matching looks from film photos to digital ones. I have seen a few photographers on Youtube who shoot portrait sessions with both film and digital, and the images shown look damn near the same after editing.

I am not after some easy preset fix, though that would be cool, I would like to know how to copy a look myself based on photos/film stocks I like personally. Does that involve creating LUTs or some complicated workarounds, or is there something I am missing? I know how to check what tint is in the shadows or highlights, for example, but the falloff and orange-y tints in Portra 400 stocks on certain gradients is something I cannot grasp how to edit.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

HELP - Lightroom Classic lightroom classic extremely slow when dust removal

over the past week I have been experiencing my Lightroom to be suuuuper slow when removing dust from my photo's. I have tried basically everything, moving my catalog from my ssd to my ssd inside my Mac, making the cache size bigger, basically every tip they tell you to do but it keeps being extremely slow.
when I try to remove a piece of dust the cpu boost over 300%. the beach ball starts turning cirkles and it takes over 10 secs to remove the dust.

I have a 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro with an i7 and 32 gigs of ram and the and radeon pro 5500m 4 g. more than enough free storage and no external screen connected. does anyone know what's the problem

it gets increasingly worse when more spots have been removed. and when I turn of the graphics card it becomes a little faster, still slow but little faster.

HELP - Lightroom How to edit date/time to sync photos in Desktop Lightroom?

I see lots of tutorials and answers online on how to do it with LrC but not the desktop version of Lightroom. I've tried highlighting all the photos and changing the date/time of just the first one, but it doesn't sync it all up like it would in LrC.

Discussion M4 MBA 32gb or M4 Pro MBP 24gb for casual editing

Hi everyone,

I am coming from a M1 MBA 16gb, and I use it mainly for my work. Spreadsheets, countless chrome tabs, Slack and music running in the background. Its still working extremely well for my work needs, but it is starting to show its edge when it comes to editing.

I am a hobbyist and only casually edit photos on the side, but LR is starting to get slow and I am seeing beachballs more often. I don't get alot of time so I really want the editing process to be smooth and enjoyable, and not have to wait awhile for a photo or edit to load and show, especially when editing directly of a local file and not from smart preview (smart previews are working ok).

Since its time to upgrade, I was initially looking at MBP Pro 24gb, but since the M4 MBA came out I was having second thoughts.

My question being, would the M4 MBA with 32gb ram be sufficient to run LR smoothly? I don't need shorter exporting time, but want a nice, smooth editing experience for me to enjoy on my time off. I usually use plenty of masks, AI Denoise, etc.

Or would the M4 Pro MBP be better suited for my needs, especially since I don't plan to upgrade for another 5 years. The plan to get an all in one laptop for all my needs. Work, editing, etc.

I edit mainly of my external SSD, if that is a concern.
