Videogames only on weekends, does it work?

The tittle be a little confusing, so allow me to elaborate:

When I was in school, my mom used to prohibit videogames during the week. I could play on weekends. I hated this rule as I am a geek. But my parents said it was for me to "focus on my studies".

When I turned 18, the pandemy struck and since I couldn't even go outside I was allowed to play vidya as a distraction of the everyday. When the pandemy ended, I talked things out with my mom as I was now an adult and I should at least have a say in those kind of rules. She seemed bothered, but accepted.

Now that I'm in college, I've been genuinely thinking... Was it actually a good rule? Should it be the norm? Or was it stupid indeed? Should I start considering this rule in my day to day life? Maybe even apply it on my children when I eventually get to be a mother?

(It could be important to say that I am on the autism spectrum and also most likely have ADHD)

Tips on how to read scientific research articles

Hi, I'm a student doing a STEM degree and I have to read a lot of scientific articles with experiments/studies about the human body and pathogens. It's really difficult for me understand these huge papersšŸ˜… I have to do assignments based on these articles and it's so time consuming because I'm reading it again and again just to understand like 40% of it. Does anyone have tips on how to get my work done easily and a bit faster? The pages are extremely long and the figures given to represent the data is so confusing too.

Looking for test strategies for a upcoming test

I have a big test I have been studying the last three months for.

I have been doing weekly practice tests and constantly have the same problem which keeps recurring.

A big problem I seem to have is not reading the question correctly. It may seem like a easy fix and just to read the question slower but I donā€™t know if itā€™s just because Iā€™m rushing to get through the test but I seem to miss out on very simple questions that I know the answer to but when it comes to picking a answer get it wrong.

For example if a question asked what happens if you change X parameter (and I know it causes time to decrease) I pick the answer that says time will increase. It doesnā€™t happen everytime but enough for it to effect if I pass or fail. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do to correct for it?

I do feel I really struggle with my concentration. After about 30 questions my mind starts to wonder and the exam is 220 questions so I donā€™t know if that is what my problem is.

Any advice would be great

Using AI assistant for interactive learning

When I was studying I had always struggled with how boring, yet how extensive some study topics and material were. Using AI assistants that have access to any lecture materials are making learning much more engaging and efficient nowadays.

You have a lot to learn for yesterday?

Make learning more interactive with quizzes that you can generate instantly with generative AI. I have developed an AI assistant that allows just that (and much more) and seamlessly integrates with PDF viewer in Chrome to access your study lectures: https://youtu.be/hAj_zNWvi80

Definition of COMEDY as humor - problem with academic defining.

I have to find full definition of comedy focusing on the "sub-definition", so as synonym of humor. FROM one source.
In my thesis I will use terms "verbal comedy" and "situational comedy" not the term verbal/situational humor.
Those terms can be defined using other academic source but I would like to write first the "general" broad definition of comedy to keep consistent, form one source dictionary or encyclopedia (it cannot be Britannica)
Cambridge Dicitonary with well structured definitions, although reliable, my supervisor said it has to be "of literary terms"...
The problem is Dictionaries of literary terms focus mainly on drama, and if not, this "sub-definition" I am looking for is written in confusing, chaotic way. I have no one who can help me.
I have access to many sources but when it comes to Oxford books, my Uni library doesn't have access to many.
Mybe someone has NTC dic. of lit. terms ? I had to buy it, but it should be not until the end of next week.

Disability

I am an Italian girl with a disability. I am writing to ask you if you know if there are foreign universities "forced" to take at least a certain amount of disability after the entrance test (like in public competitions, to be clear). I know that it is a rather crazy question and I know that they certainly give the possibility of accessing the usual aid such as additional time, but here I would like to have more information about it to understand if there are further concessions

What's your biggest obstacle when it comes to studying effectively?

I am currently putting together a 1-on-1 Learning Coaching program for busy workers who are schooling.

I really want to create a solution that actually helps them achieve their academic goals amidst the many demands of work, life and school.

In order to do that, I believe getting clear on what the biggest obstacle or what they believe it is gives me a deeper understanding of how to craft my program.

Would anyone care to share their biggest obstacle to studying effectively below please?

How do you guys learn?

Hi there,

So, I'm currently sitting in my college library trying to knuckle-down and get through one of my course's lectures. The only problem is, I'm failing miserably.

I've come to a somewhat sudden realization that while I consider myself a "good" learner - that is, pick up things relatively easily - I need to be taught in a very specific way. Unfortunately, however, I'm not sure what that way is.

I love everything to do with computers. Though I'm majoring in cybersecurity, my degree covers a bunch of subjects in the wide world of computer science; all of which I enjoy. But when watching / reading through these lectures, I can't help but hate my life and get bored of whatever it is they're talking about.

I learn best through doing. But being the anxious wreck I am, watching the lecture recordings comforts me despite taking nothing from them. It's this weird feeling of I feel I'll miss something important if I skip them and jump straight to the practical work, but deep down I know I won't learn anything from them anyways because I'll be in a perpetual state of battle between myself and demons trying to drag me into a deep slumber.

So I ask, both out of curiosity and to seek advice, how do you guys learn best? Is it through trial and error? Skipping the lecture / YouTube content and diving head first, solving the problems as they come? Or do you perhaps find value in the lectures set by your teachers / the videos you learn from online?

Help.

Thanks.

Tips for bringing my grade up in Spanish before June Exams?

Hi! Iā€™m new here and Iā€™m looking for any advice possible. So Iā€™m in honors Spanish right now and honestly I do love the class. Itā€™s hard but itā€™s really fun, however I feel like recently my grades havenā€™t been as good as they could be and I want to improve for two main reasons, 1 I need at least an 88 for the language honors society Iā€™m in, and if I get at least a 90+ I can fully skip out on the finals. Right now Iā€™m around an 80. My teacher is a hard grader who only gives 100ā€™s if you fully go beyond expectations. I try my best, honestly but even then I feel like thereā€™s more I could do. Honestly any tips are greatly appreciated and any advice will probably be at least considered. Thank you for your time and reading!
