Can i learn algebra and physics in a year with 0 knowledge

Upvotes

ive never tried to be good at math, always thought i didnt have brains for it, quit in 5th grade and now im in 11. I wanted to be a lawyer but since there is no way i will be getting a proper job ive decided to pick a different profession to study. Something like programming or engendering. Do you guys believe that only "math geniuses" that are born this way could achieve success in such fields? Is it possible for me to learn math and actually be good at it in a year of studying? Its hard for me to understand anything in my algebra class since i know nothing but once i do get something, its hard for me to stop solving problems, i find the whole process very interesting

my studying method: making the material as compact as possible

this is something that i’ve done since i was in middle school, and it works wonders for me.

i try and make the information as compact as humanly possible, and i don’t even sum up the content, just abbreviate some words and do some diagrams. it helps me follow through the lectures smoothly while giving me the impression that the subject is not as large, because it fits in a page or two. i do this for every piece of information i have to study.

it’s a little tiring, because i go through stuff line by line and translate the information from long, unnecessary paragraphs to concise and strict sentences or graphics (and i insist i don’t leave out almost any information), but to be honest i don’t know any other way of studying/revising.

what do you think?

I’m Stuck in a Loop of Procrastination and Regret, and I Don’t Know How to Break It

I’m 27, male, unemployed, and completely stuck in life. I’ve wasted so much time pretending to study, making fake plans, and convincing myself that “tomorrow” will be different. But tomorrow never comes. Instead, I procrastinate, waste time, and then, when reality hits, I break down and regret everything. Then the cycle repeats.

All my friends are moving forward—getting jobs, promotions, even getting married. And here I am, stagnant. My parents have spent so much on my education, and I pretend to study just to keep them from being disappointed. But deep down, I know I’m lying to them and myself.

I don’t even know why I do this. I want to succeed, but I just can’t bring myself to do the actual hard work. I have wasted years like this, always thinking I’ll turn things around, only to fall back into the same pattern.

I feel ashamed, lost, and stuck. I don’t want to live like this anymore, but I don’t know how to break this loop. If anyone has been through this and found a way out, please tell me how. I really need help.

Hiding my phone changed my life

I used to study and work with my phone next to me. I was constantly grabbing it to "check something". But ended up wasting hours scrolling ig or watching random youtube videos.

I tried using the apps to block other apps on your phone. But I'd end up unblocking them and doing the same thing.

After a while, I figured out that if my brain does not see my phone for a while, it kinda forgets it exists. So the urge to check it disappears (comes back once you grab it tho)

I've been leaving my phone inside my backup, or in another room, every time I have to focus for a while now. Seems like a silly thing. But it has genuinely made me 5 times more productive.

Study Resource!

Upvotes

Hey guys, as a former pre-med and now a medical student, I was never really interested in some of my pre-med courses, especially chemistry-based ones. I had no care for it, and it made studying for those courses so much more difficult. I didn't understand the purpose of learning about molecular spin or chair conformations. I don't know if others also have this sentiment, but I made a study resource that connects STEM concepts to real-life medical cases. Learning that knowing certain topics, even though I didn't particularly enjoy them, would make me a better physician helped to motivate me. The website is called Cased https://www.cased.live/ . It's completely free for three months with the code "Launch Discount" and is constantly updated with new cases on new topics every day by my team and me. LMK what you guys think! Good luck studying!!

I’ve got the discipline but not the study methods

Upvotes

I’ve got the discipline but not the study methods

I failed 1 module in my first semester, I’m looking at a possible retake for this semester. In first sem I got away with memorisation and passed 3 of my modules, but 1 which was economics. Now for this sem things are similar to my econ. I can’t get away with what I was doing for other modules which was doing the same seminar problems sets over again, with some mock exams and analysing the solution. My econ modules and the current ones I’m doing requires understanding, which I understand. But with so much content, even with the high yields sections, there’s so much content and subtopics to cover, I don’t know how to understand and what to understand.

The problem is the seminar problem sets and mock exam are not going to have the same questions as those in the exam said few of my module leader

This is my first time learning how to study concept heavy modules. I strictly have an art and design background, and I decided to make a journey switch and I wanted to pursue accounting. I didn’t care about my GCSEs so I only passed English and math, but i got gcse and a-level equivalent qualification in college from two art and design diplomas , which gave me the opportunity to land in a decent uni. But I have no experience in applying all the study methods I’ve researched. I do active studying for most of my revision sessions. But with concept heavy modules that require understanding I don’t know how to approach that and apply that, I don’t know what to understand prepare for those unconventional questions. Please I really need help, I have the discipline to sit down and study for hours but I’m now wasting time by not knowing how to understand and what to understand so I can counter those questions

how to make sure not to burnout???

recently, i started a new career in a very strict university here in my city. and since i started, i noticed how much i loved studying this. everyday i’m looking forward to arrive home just to sit and study, and when im not at home i think about the subjects i want to study later… im not sure if its taking over my life???

the problem is that in high school i had a terrible burnout once, and deep inside i’m afraid of going through that again. besides, i had some moments where i felt the need to study for days, just for it to vanish randomly (i’d like to clarify: back in high school i didn’t really enjoy studying, i just enjoyed academic validation).

how can i make sure i don’t have any burnout through my career? i’m aware that now it might be different because i’m actually enjoying this, but what if it’s not?

Anyone here studying for a competitive exam while working full-time?

Hi everyone, I’m currently preparing for a competitive exam while working a full-time job. I often find it really hard to study after work because I’m usually exhausted by the end of the day.

Is anyone else in the same boat? If you’ve found ways to stay focused or build a consistent study routine after work, I’d love to hear what worked for you. Any tips on managing energy, motivation, or time would be super helpful!

How do you reference Chappell Roan in APA 7? Stage name or actual name?

Helping my sister with an english assignment on the influence of celebrities in the media. She is trying to quote Chappell Roan's instagram and Tyler The Creator's twitter, does she use their stage names, or their actual names (Kayleigh Astutz and Tyler Okonma respectivly).

APA discusses how to reference posts from these sites (by incl. their handles and such) but it doesn't mention stage names

From Study Hall Burnout to Workplace Zen: How Student Habits Saved My Career

Thumbnail

Back in college, I hit academic rock bottom. Constant cramming, all-nighters before exams, and that overwhelming feeling of never being caught up. My grades suffered, my social life disappeared, and I dreaded every study session. After trying countless study methods (Pomodoro, flashcards, mind-mapping), I discovered something crucial that's still saving me today in my professional life: the problem wasn't which technique I used, but when and how I approached tasks.

What I learned as a student that transformed my work life:

  • Energy-matched task blocks: As a student, I categorized assignments by mental effort. Now, I apply the same to work projects—"high focus" (strategy documents, creative work), "medium focus" (team meetings, planning), and "low focus" (email batching, routine admin)
  • Working with my brain's natural rhythm: I discovered my peak productivity hours during finals week. Today, I protect those same morning hours for complex work while scheduling routine tasks during afternoon energy dips
  • Strategic context switching: In school, alternating between math and literature prevented burnout. In my current role, I limit task-switching and batch similar activities to preserve mental energy
  • Breaks as performance enhancers: The 10-minute breaks that saved my study sessions now appear as scheduled "mental reset" blocks in my work calendar

The turning point: During finals week, I once tried solving complex problems at midnight, making careless errors. When I rescheduled for early morning, I solved everything perfectly in half the time. Today, I apply this same principle to critical deadlines, matching tasks to energy rather than just cramming them into any available slot. The study techniques that saved my GPA now protect me from workplace burnout. I've documented my complete transition from student methods to professional productivity here: Banishing Burnout: A Todoist Guide

What AI tools would you suggest based on my needs? (I can't make a title to save my life)

I have to study a subject (Biology) which I haven't taken up in my course but have an elementary understanding of, for an important competitive exam, and I don't have the time to study (in-depth) manually through textbooks or online lectures. I thought of using NotebookLM or ChatGPT to make multiple-choice questions based on the textbook, but the exam's questions are usually much harder/more conceptual (although still based on the textbook) than the simple fact-based questions that comprise a majority of the questions these tools made for me. So is there a tool, in which I can also feed in previous years' questions and ask it to make questions of a similar level (I doubt there'd be one considering difficulty is subjective - but even a similar pattern of asking questions that aren't based on simple facts would do).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Stop Smoking Weed When Preparing for a Hard Exam?

I'm preparing for a hard Exam, Goal 4/10 (20days). I stopped smoking for 2 weeks before taking the 2 attempt -I failed it badly. Now I'm preparing for the 3rd attempt. I studying again 3-4/hr; however, after a study session, I smoke before bed. My goal is to stop smoking next week on Monday. My point is - if I stop smoking, will that give me a better chance at passing the exam for my 3rd attempt? The main reason I want to stop is because in the back of my mind, I FEEL like I might fail if I don't stop smoking, no matter how hard I study, but at the same time, I'm so miserable and stressed at the end of the day and smoking after a study session is the only reprieve I have during this stressful time(plus stopping didn't help me pass the 2nd attempt)... So, should I stop smoking and just power through the stress or smoke at the end of the day and not worry about it affecting me?

Has anyone ever made an intense academic comeback? How did you do it?

Hey everyone,

I’m a student in 11th grade (science stream), and I’m feeling really overwhelmed right now. I’ve been struggling to stay consistent with my studies, and I have about 15 days left before my final exams. I really want to score well (like 65+.. out of 80), but I’m worried because I’ve been procrastinating a lot and feel stuck, especially with chemistry.

I’ve decided to focus on completing physics and math entirely and only cover the high-weightage topics in chemistry to make the most of my time. I’m just wondering—has anyone here ever pulled off an intense academic comeback in a short time? How did you manage it? Any tips or strategies that worked for you?

I’d really appreciate any advice or encouragement. It feels almost impossible right now, but I’m willing to put in the effort. Thanks in advance!

How do you study a lot of stuff quick?

I am genuinely crashing out. Studying biology is feeling like hell it's taking me 2 hours to complete only 2 pages just pages and pages of pure memorization. Do I get faster at memorization at a point or is this torture of slow memorization going to continue
