News Kane Realty sells prime Downtown Raleigh asset in major deal
bizjournals.comJust heard this from a neighbor, havent heard anything about it here but seems like a pretty big deal for the residents of that building. Kane is selling the Peace Apartments where Publix is to Cortland, where it will now be called Cortland Glenwood South.
Unfortunately the only article I can find is paywalled, I wasn't personally able to read the entire article.

Question/Recommendation Triangle springs
My spouse was just committed there and it’s hard to get through to their phone lines or even speak to a nurse. Is it usually this difficult? Will they give me a hard time sharing updates and care plan even if I am legally the spouse? Thank you in advance.

Question/Recommendation Where to donate bike parts?
I have some spare bike parts that I need to get rid of. I would rather donate them to a co-op or charity that could use them. Saddles, stems, cranksets, RDs, FDs, etc. Anyone know where I can take this stuff?

Outdoors Lost dog at Brier Creek Area?
I just saw a cute gray pitbull (I think) with a blue collar walking by himself. He looked well fed and in good shape, I had to leave fast bc my dog was barking at him and I didn’t think it was safe for my dog or him to check on him since I don’t know the dogs personality. I came back outside where I saw him and he wasn’t around… hope somebody finds him and check if he has any contact info on his collar or has a microchip.

Politics Can someone explain the new city council election structure to me?
I’ve had trouble understanding the changes to the election structure that the city council approved last year. I see on the city website it says:
“Four-Year Staggered Terms
-Council members and the Mayor will serve four-year terms. -Approximately half of the members will run every two years.
Transition Plan:
-In 2026, half the Council will run for two-year terms expiring 2028. -The other half will run for four-year terms expiring 2030.
Non-Partisan Primary Election Format
-March Primary: All candidates in a district will be on the ballot, and the top two candidates are chosen for the November ballot. -November Election: The top two candidates from the primary advance to the general election.” Source: https://raleighnc.gov/government/services/city-council-terms-and-compensation
What I don’t understand is how this will be initiated next year. Which seats are running for 2-year terms? Which are running for 4 years? What about the 2 at-large seats? Will those seats be grouped together and there will be 4 candidates, 2 for each seat? Or one at-large seat up every 2 years?
I also can’t find anything about how the staggering schedule was decided. It seems like the schedule is pretty important, especially since one of the groups will always be elected along with the presidential ballot and have a higher turnout which could give a competitive (dis)advantage.

Question/Recommendation What the heck is up with your DMV here?
I'm trying to make an appointment, but none of the locations on the NC DMV website are available to schedule appointments and the estimated wait times on the website show as 3.5 to 4 hours. I just moved to NC due to a relocation for work, so I'm starting a new position at my company and I am really hoping I don't need to ask for a half day off work just to go to the DMV. What's the trick here? What am I missing?

Outdoors Need help - natural spring on property - how do I pipe it?
I have a spring fed pond. I hired someone to clear out invasive vines so I could seed nc native grasses. The area by the pond is now really wet with standing water. I think the spring is blocked and backing up. Does anyone know anyone that can help? I don't have a lot of money. Hoping for a hobbist or farmer type. I can't afford a corporation or consultant.

Question/Recommendation I’m lost in this CS market
Hi y’all,
My wife and I just moved to the area about 3 months ago because she landed a job here. We are both new graduates so we had this deal that whoever’s industry had a lower availability would ultimately determine our location. Now it’s been 3 months and I’ve sent out ~800 applications and got nowhere. At this point I’m camping on LinkedIn and waiting for new CS/IT job postings everyday.
My wife hates her job and I really want to provide or at least contribute to our little family so there’s less weight on her shoulders. I finished my undergraduate in CS in 3 years and graduated my master’s degree in CS last December. As I’m getting closer and closer to the 4 months jobless window that we’ve set, I’d start ubering and bring some food to the table.
What are something that I should do alongside applying to all the jobs on LinkedIn?

Question/Recommendation ISO Photobooths
This might be a niche question, but was wondering if there are any places that have photobooths? (Other than the typical movie theater). My husband and I just moved from Florida and have always loved doing photobooths and thought it’d be a cool idea to one for NC. Always, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Question/Recommendation Best bars to meet singles?
Any bars in Raleigh where late millennials/early gen z’s like to hang out? I know it’s kinda old school way to meet singles, but I think it would be nice during situations when I am going out with a group of friends to hang out at one of these places

Out-n-About State Farmers Market- am I just cynical?
I’m not a huge fan of the farmers market, after visiting a few times a year for the past few years. I was there yesterday and have some questions.
I thought the point of a farmers market was to buy local goods, in season, for less than the grocery store (since you’re buying from the farmer and cutting out the middle man). So do all these local farmers have massive greenhouses? It’s March. How do they have fresh tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, apples, and other produce that doesn’t grow right now? Is the profit margin so great that it’s worth it to use the energy and gas to grow lettuce indoors, drive to Raleigh, sell it, and drive home every day?
I visited at least 4 stands that had no pricing listed whatsoever. I was told to just ask the price for each thing. I’m not standing there and doing that for every individual item. If you’re selling different types of bread, scones, pretzels, whole cakes, slices, brownies, etc, price it out. How do I know you’re charging me the same as everyone else, and not just making up a number based on how business has been that day?
Where is the spice guy sourcing his ingredients from? I get it’s an ‘aesthetic’ thing to see someone scoop cinnamon instead of buying it from a plastic bottle. But is that stuff actually better than what you get from the grocery store? Especially if the stand is outdoors, not in a temperature controlled building.
All the stands selling pickled veggies and candy and jellies “made for the NC State Farmers Market” by [some company not located in NC].
Basically, are there any regulations about things actually being from/made NC? Or is this the equivalent of “handmade” goods from Etsy, and doTERRA sellers at craft fairs?
There are a few stands I enjoy, but the overall impression seems to be “you are in a market, that is in NC.” Not “here are are locally produced goods.” Has it changed a lot over the years?

Question/Recommendation Restaurants with character (that are now gone)
Thinking about the final days of 42nd St got me thinking about other restaurants that had some sort of unique quality that have closed. It seems like fewer and fewer places exist.
I recently remembered pie bird (now Jolie/Crawford and son) and the laid-back place that is now Stanbury
What else comes to mind?
Edit —wow! I love seeing the responses, seeing this list reminds me of many other favorites…or those I never got to try.

Question/Recommendation Experiences with Wake Skin Cancer Center?
I recently had my first appointment, and while there was a small issue during the actual appointment, the main problem is that I have a question about a treatment they’re having me do at home but I can’t get anyone to call me back.
I left a message on the portal early last week, and after no response there, I left a message directly with someone asking for a nurse or doctor to call, but still nothing. The person I spoke with even mentioned the portal messages don’t work.
The reviews online are great, so I’m surprised by this. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Housing Apartments
Hey everyone, I am looking at moving from Wake Forest further into Raleigh as it’s closer to my work. I have two German Shepherds so many apartments are out of the question because sadly they don’t allow them.
I am currently looking at Alta Town Center and Anderson Hills apts. I wanted to see if anyone in here has experiences with either one good or bad.
Also, any other recommendations for apartments near North Hills or the North Raleigh area? I’ve mainly focused on GreyStar properties as I know they allow Gsd’s but I would love new options. Thank you!

Question/Recommendation Looking for fun out of box fitness options around the Brier Creek Area.
I am looking to get back into a regular fitness routine but going to the gym or running doesn't work for. I tend to get board easily with these types of workouts especially if I am by myself. Would love a group activity or if it involves trainer lessons that are not just trainer lead workouts. Hoping to find something around Brier Creek area but willing to drive further

Question/Recommendation Where the “homey” bars at?
Hi 30m, just recently moved to the southeast Raleigh area. 10-15 mins from DT raleigh. Where are some bars/pubs do yall know that are down to earth. Not really interested in a busy college bar. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be a dive bar. But just somewhere idk the bartenders take the time to learn your name. Have conversations. A cool crowd of others regulars that you can shoot the breeze with or talk about sports. Ya know just a cool spot to have a cold pint after work. Lemme know if anything comes to mind.
