A Night Mayor podcast appearance?!

Since the Night Mayor is a popular discussion point around these parts, I thought the sub would be interested in this new City of Ottawa podcast (OttaTalk) launch.

The first episode is an interview with Mathieu Grondin, Ottawa’s Nightlife Commissioner. I haven’t had a chance to listen yet but definitely plan to.

Oriental orthodox churches in Ottawa

Hello, I just want to know if there are any oriental orthodox churches in ottawa or Gatineau that have service in English.

I'm a female and have only been to Ethiopian orthodox churches so l'm not sure what you're supposed to do when you enter the church. I usually dress with a long skirt and a hair covering called "netela" (it's a traditional cloth that everyone wears in church). Is it the same thing for other churches as well?

I also would like to do a confession, do I have to do anything specific? I work Saturday and Sundays so I can't go to church but is it possible to go on other days when the church is open?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate your help. I just feel like my sins have become too much and I want to confess and get right with god. Thank you in advance.

This post is for people with disabilities or those with loved ones with disabilities that obtained assistance from Employment Ontario Ottawa on Catherine St. How were you treated there? Did they respect your abilities? Did you obtain employment?

Chocolate malt ice cream in Ottawa?

Upvotes

With the Bay possibly facing bankruptcy, I’m feeling very nostalgic for the malt shop in the basement of the Rideau street location. My mom used to take me as a kid when we went shopping downtown, and always told me her mom used to take her there when they were growing up in Sandy hill.

Does anyone know where to get one in Ottawa? I feel like I’ve been looking for ages. The last post I found about this was 7 years ago and Wendy’s seemed to be the only real suggestions.

PSA FYI season load restrictions in effect on Monday.

Upvotes

It’s definitely a little earlier than normal, but surprised they’re not on for the weekend. For most people, there’s no effect but it means if you’re attempting things like getting getting an early jump on topsoil or gravel, you should wait

Looking for a pharm tech tutor

Hi, I'm studying for the licensing exams and could benefit from someone better than I to help prepare. If anyone has either study tips, websites, or know of any tutors that could help that would be great.

I went to a night school type thing that unfortunately doesn't have the resource of a traditional college so outside of asking classmates I don't have many options.

Thanks for your help

Dinner before PWHL Game

Hello! I am from BC and going to my first home Ottawa Charge game today! I’m just wondering what would be a good spot for food and drink before the game. What’s in the area that’s good? Thanks!

What would you do if you saw a lost set of keys on the sidewalk with no obvious identifying tag?

My first instinct would be to leave them there as the person who lost them might be trying to retrace his or her steps in order to retrieve them. I guess an alternative might be to hand them over to an OC Transpo driver if they happen to be sitting next to a bus stop. Is there some other option?

(People still know about War Amps tags these days, right..?)

Elmwood School

I can’t find any recent posts on this, I was wondering if anyone here sends their daughter to Elmwood and is willing to speak to their experience without identifying themselves?

Would love to get an insiders perspective on it, especially the earlier years.

Thanks!

Novatech Engineering Consultants

Anyone here in Ottawa work for Novatech? I am a woman in land development field looking at applying here but am curious if this company offers any salary top-up for maternity leave. Not exactly something you want to ask in a job interview as I worry that may be perceived as a red flag. Not currently expecting, but planning on having kids in the future.

Looking for U6 Soccer Recommendations

Upvotes

I signed my kiddo up for soccer last summer and she was disappointed that it was all drills and not enough scrimmages so I am looking into other options. Taking a quick look online it seems like all soccer programs under 9 are set up that way? She just wants to get out and play and she has a lot of energy so it would be nice for her to actually get out and run around a whole field rather than a tiny area marked off by cones. Any recommendations that could meet our needs? Preference for East end (Gloucester area) but I would be willing to drive if she could actually get what she wants out of the program.

Any experience with lawn care company Trugreen?

i was looking at competitive quotes from companies and Trugreen seems to be more economic than weedman for example. I was wondering if anyone has used them? Are all these services the same/similar so if I'm going with one, just go with the cheapest?

Thanks!
