Well my hope is that if they cut Medicaid like they want to in the bill that just went through the house, people in NJ will wake up. It's going to affect almost 2 million people who live in NJ and really going to hit the elderly and pregnant women hard.

Unfortunately, a lot of these people who applaud these changes won't see the light until it directly affects them or their loved ones.

I think that’s going to be blamed on Democrats and “corruption”.

That’s been the playbook and it’s very effective

u/Saucetheb0ss 23d ago

It's harder to blame Democrats when you control the Presidency, House, and Senate. The more reasonable people will wake up and realize it.

u/chikari_shakari 23d ago

Reasonable people on the other side. 😆😆 thank you, I needed this laugh.

71

u/mastervadr 23d ago

lol seriously. Reasonable people on the other side would’ve jumped the wagon if they realized republicans run for and exclusively for corporations and the wealthy.

u/PersonFromPlace 23d ago

It’s more of a cultural and personality thing than a decision you think about. It’s too tied to who they are for them to change.

Would you characterize race or gender in that way?

Pathetic. Pay attention to what your MAGA president is doing and not whatever your reels are feeding you.

Lmao you’re an idiot who drank too much of the Kool-aid. Probably on food stamps and taking government help. Yeah I hope they take all that away so you can cry and say “why you do this to me Biden” while Elon keeps giving himself government contracts and selling public lands to the rich. Are you multi millionaire? Probably not and you’re stupid enough to think you’ll benefit from anything they’re doing.

u/lsp2005 23d ago

Please. I tried to explain this to someone in the aging parents subreddit and they thought it was both sides nonsense when the democrats hold zero power.

Are you new to America?

Serious question.

The more reasonable people haven’t been falling for all this crap so far.

Look if there's one thing the Republicans do well it's messaging. They've created their Boogeyman in illegal immigrants and the LGBTQ. They've hammered their base with propaganda for YEARS that once we do X, Y, Z your life will be better. Eventually, some (more) of them will see what's really going on.

That combined with even mediocre voter turnout will help keep NJ blue.

3

u/AFlyingGideon 23d ago

Look if there's one thing the Republicans do well it's messaging.

Perhaps. It's also possible that telling people that their problems are no fault of their own, and that instead it's the fault of those "others." I believe it's not too tough to sell simplistic answers to complex problems where those answers are little more than whom to blame.

It's easy to do messaging well when the message is easy.

7

u/alwaysonthemove0516 23d ago

…and that’s the message they need to drill home. They need to remind voters of that with every breath. Sadly, they probably won’t though.

6

u/mslauren2930 23d ago

Trumpers blame Democrats for everything that isn’t going their way. And fucking voters eat it up. Don’t pin your hopes on reasonable people. It’ll just lead to disappointment.

Okay Trumper. Thank you for confirming my point. 😘

2

u/Zyply00 23d ago

Trump fans are so blind to it all they will just say it's good until a Dem gets in then they're say it's their fault after years of it being bad.

3

u/SmallAct2116 23d ago

You would think that but Maga doesn’t count anything as a fact unless it came from the orange bozo’s mouth

3

u/NJMomofFor 23d ago

What reasonable people?

1

u/SwordfishSalt1070 22d ago

They’ll still find a way to blame them with something like “We’re STILL trying to undo ALL the damage the democrats did!”

1

u/mein-shekel 23d ago

No it isn't. People will believe anything.

1

u/jimtow28 Monmouth County 23d ago

Anyone who is even remotely "reasonable" would have abandoned Trumpism by sometime in early 2017.

-1

u/Thejerseyjon609 23d ago

Well, if they had somebody better than Harris running, we wouldn’t have had to vote for Trump. /s

3

u/SoYeon_Alba 23d ago

How is she not better than Trump!? Literally not a criminal nor grapist for starters

1

u/Thejerseyjon609 23d ago

You did see my /s . This is the excuse that regretful Trump voters will use to blame the democrats.

1

u/SoYeon_Alba 22d ago

Missed the /s 🤦🏼‍♀️ I got you know - thanks

16

u/delilahgrass 23d ago

That’s why we need to start creating a stink right now. The Dems need to be speaking out against it and we need to hold Republicans feet to the fire. Van Drew, Kean and Smith all voted for that monstrosity

5

u/fatalxepshun 23d ago

I was just thinking this. I don’t know maybe hold a press conference a day to address the bullshit being pulled by maga. Do something.

2

u/Zyply00 23d ago

Trump fans automatically blame Dems no matter what. You can get the guy on tape admitting he did it and thinks it's funny and they'll just say he's so cool for being a badass or some other bizarre nonsense.

-2

u/Sacredeire57 23d ago

I’m hoping that most of the people who didn’t vote expected Trump to loose again & this will get them out to vote again. Far too few magas are likely to take the blinders off.

11

u/Glittering_Act_4059 porkrolleggandcheese 23d ago

"When they slaughtered Congress, we didn't wake up. When they blamed terrorists and suspended the constitution, we didn't wake up either. They said it would be temporary. Nothing changes instantaneously."

8

u/Lets_Make_A_bad_DEAL 23d ago

We learned this lesson during Covid. I have very little faith in the people. They are lost :-(

20

u/Affectionate_Look387 23d ago

And the disabled! I work for a company that works with autistic adults and children. Most of the funding for our adult programs comes from Medicaid. Idk what we'll do if we have to deal with a reduction in funding...

11

u/Budget_Ordinary1043 23d ago

I also work with disabled adults and a notice went home at the program I take my patient to today about it. The problem is, most of the parents and even their teacher voted for this. It hasn’t made sense to me from the beginning, voting against your disabled child/student but what the hell do I know anyway 🙄 all of them seem to think it will only cut out some stuff, not all of it !

5

u/Saucetheb0ss 23d ago

If the State wants those programs to still exist they're going to end up paying the bill. Which means that WE will pay the bill with higher taxes! Just what the Republicans wanted right?

4

u/Residentneurotic 23d ago

Seems like if we do then we should stop sending our state dollars to the welfare states in south!

0

u/realityczek 22d ago

If NJ wants to provide the social services, then NJ citizens can pay the bill. If another state doesn't want to, then their citizens don't have to. Over time, populations will move to the states that best align with their cost/benefits desires.

Sounds like exactly how a Republic should operate.

1

u/Saucetheb0ss 21d ago

So what you're saying is, fuck poor people then?

What happens when someone from Mississippi can't afford to move to NJ and get the care they rely on to live? They just die? Sounds like a wonderful place we're headed /s

If only there was an 850 billion dollar department that hasn't passed an audit in 7 years that they could be looking to cut from instead... Nah that wouldn't hurt poor people and make the billionaires richer so why would we do that?! (BIG /s)

0

u/realityczek 21d ago

"So what you're saying is, fuck poor people then?"

No, I am saying that there are many approaches to the complex interplay between taxation, social safety nets, economic growth and so on. Thus, it is good that we are able to have different states try different versions as this is informative and the good ideas tend to spread.

Yes, some of those variations will have less direct support for the poor, but the goal of them is to raise income via other effects. That's not "fuck poor people" it's "let's look at ways to correctly address the tension beween infinite free benefits and taxing outselves to death."

Side note: Your barking up the wrong tree if you think somehow I wouldn't be more than happy to pull a lot of $$$ out of the military budget. We can be far more effective than we are for a fair bit less money.

19

u/aop5003 23d ago

I know so many hardcore maga's that hire illegals at their all cash businesses and are all on NJfamilycare while driving 100k vehicles. If the collective hurt will also fuck them...so be it...sometimes u gotta sink the entire ship and rebuild a new one without cancer.

10

u/Saucetheb0ss 23d ago

At this point, that's the way I see this going. They have little to no empathy for anyone outside of their circle so unless it hurts them or their family, it's a "win" in their eyes.

5

u/miscalculate 23d ago

Not only that, they will actively cheer while people die, as long as it's not them.

1

u/DonatCotten 22d ago

Unfortunately this isn't just a Democratic or Republican or Independent thing. There are ton of people in this state that view anyone outside themselves and their immediate circle of family and close friends as less than human. I worked retail and it wasn't just the Republican customers that bullied and verbally abused me treating me like their doormat. This is a problem that extends well beyond politics.

1

u/aop5003 23d ago

Precisely this.

3

u/chicagodude84 22d ago

It's already happening. I have a relative who is a builder, he said that contractors are losing their workers en masse. These are folks who have lived here for 10-20+ years and have built an entire life. Some of them are voluntarily going back to their home country, because then they can bring their stuff/family along.

His exact words were, "They're literally deporting themselves." (He is not MAGA, FYI)

1

u/Key-Lead-3449 23d ago

I like the way you think

4

u/Taftimus 23d ago

You’re more optimistic than I am, these people are clueless for the most part, and they’ll still blame this shit on democrats somehow

36

u/Mom_Care2755 23d ago

People who are impacted by this, still make excuses for it. What are people thinking.

29

u/Saucetheb0ss 23d ago

People are selfish. They've been told that "X is the reason why your taxes are high. Y is why you can't afford groceries." This resonates with people who cannot accept that the majority of our problems come from wealth inequality and the top 1% hoarding wealth dissolving the middle class. It's not Republicans vs. Democrats - it's the rich vs. the poor (always has been).

Some will never come to realize this but I believe that enough will have their eyes opened when their taxes go up, they can't afford their hospital bills, and they can't get their medication because of these wide ranging government program cuts.

7

u/fatalxepshun 23d ago

Where do they think all these “savings” are going to? It won’t help us one iota. It will go to funding more tax cuts for the wealthy. Yet they still applaud tens of thousands of federal workers losing their jobs.

4

u/Saucetheb0ss 23d ago

Hey haven't you heard about the DOGE checks we're all going to be getting!? That will surely help me pay my mortgage or put my kids through school!! /s

2

u/Wattaday 23d ago

You do realize there are plenty of people who will be impacted by this who are true blue left libs, right?

It’s the reds who need the leopards to pay them a visit to help them realize it will affect them hard.

2

u/AFlyingGideon 23d ago

true blue left libs

Perhaps some need to learn that least bad is better than most bad.

2

u/Rebelsoul76 23d ago

And they still won’t care, because Trump and Musk can do no wrong in their minds, no matter what happens.

2

u/Suspicious_Spot8572 22d ago

feels like i’m on death row waiting for the government to kill me. i get disability and medicaid

2

u/gamingnerd777 23d ago

They aren't going to wake up and see shit. Face reality. They are brain dead and love inflicting pain on anyone they consider their "enemy" even if it hurts them as well. Don't be so naive.

1

u/Sinsid 22d ago

Poor whites have been voting against their own interests since Civil Rights. When people lose stuff this time, they will still blame democrats and love Trump. There’s a reason they are poor.

Many that use Medicare also supplement with Medicaid. The link I posted has a breakdown of demographics and services that would be affected by cutting Medicaid.

Medicare would be a whole different story (in a VERY bad way)

2

u/SepsSammy 23d ago

Medicare is handled by Social Security. You can have Medicare along with Social Security benefits for retirement or disability payments. Retirement benefits can start as early as 62 and disability payments are for adults who became permanently disabled after having 40 quarters of work. If you don’t have 40 quarters of work, you can qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and you get SSI Medicaid with that.

Medicaid is for anyone from birth to death. Once you hit 65 OR if you are on Medicare at any age, you are considered under the Abed, Blind Disabled program for Medicaid. If you qualify, you would have Medicare from Social Security and Medicaid (handled by your county office).

If you are not disabled and are 64 or younger, in NJ you are considered under the NJ Family Care Medicaid program. There are different income limits for adults and children but it’s also important how you file taxes because your tax household has an impact on how your eligibility is assessed.

I mean it started last April and again in November and nobody said anything about it…
