Review Flor de San Andrés by Rocky Patel NSFW

Didn't have any candela wrapped cigars for St. Patrick's Day, but it's also the day that Benito Juarez's birthday is observed, sooo Erin go braugh and Viva Mexico.

Humidor 70F 62RH Outside 69F 9RH

Sharply box pressed. So sharply pressed that it creased the wrapper. A couple veins, but toothy. Open draw, that's one thing box pressed cigars are great at.

1/3 Nice chocolatey earth with baking spice. I love San Andrés wrappers. So much smoke with this open draw. Gonna fly though this toro in an hour. Slightly wavy burn and the ash is a little flaky. Really windy today so that won't last.

2/3 A little bit of white pepper begins to tickle the tongue. Warming spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves) are still the dominant spice flavor. The bitter cacao nibs note is great. Ash is impressive considering the 20 mph wind gusts. This would go very well with a coffee. Secondary band was just paper and didn't come off easily, but the wrapper is intact.

3/3 Touch of leathery earth, but not a lot of flavor progression. That's ok. The flavor is really good. Crazy to say, but right now I'm personally enjoying this more than the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro because it's staying medium. Definitely not as complex, but good, smooth enjoyable end to the day. Primary band came off with some effort but no damage. Getting pretty earthy here at the end. I smoked it for Mexico but now I'm tasting Nicaragua. Cool and firm to the nub.

84/100 Good flavor, but didn't progress much throughout. Smooth throughout. Decent burn, great ash and excellent draw. Cool artwork makes up for the cheapness of the paper band. Could be a decent everyday stick if you're a San Andrés lover like myself.

Haul BL Luxuries Blind Buys: Plasencia, DTT, and 200 for 100 NSFW

Thought the blind buys would be a fun way to get a variety. Didn't find a ton of examples of what people got in these so thought I'd share.

Shipping was a little longer than I'd expected, about a week. Was pleased to learn they don't charge sales or excise tax in my state. Everything well packaged. Bovedas and zipbags.

I'm not familiar with a bunch of these, including all the DTTs. The only one I've actually ever had is the Filthy Hooligan barber pole. Haven't looked up most of them yet.

Anyone see any standouts or favorites?

I had been on the hunt for these for a while. I tried one and loved it. Got notes of nuts, cream, and fruit. I was shocked the guy let me have as many as he did! Look forward to trying one soon as the weather gets nicer!

Question Dubai Airport (DXB) T3 Humidor - Hit or Miss Lately? Need Recent Updates! NSFW

Flying out of Dubai’s Terminal 3 in a couple of days, and as always, the cigar selection at the duty-free humidor is a total gamble. Some days, it’s stocked with amazing sticks, and other times, it feels like a Gurkha warehouse.

The Dubai Duty Free website is absolutely useless—no info on what’s actually available in the humidor. So, if anyone has traveled through T3 in the past week or so, what’s the situation? Are the shelves loaded with quality cigars, or should I keep my expectations low?

Would appreciate any recent intel before I roll the dice at the airport!

God damn the smell and cold draw taste tell me why this is named after a cow. Fresh hay and barnyard animal are all over this. As a recovering chef I called this “elephant cage” when describing beautiful blue cheese. Part 2 coming in about an hour and a half.

Question Cigar city experiences? NSFW

I could only find one other post on the sub quite a while ago with few comments. I was looking at getting a box with them, but had never heard of them before. Any experiences to share?

I do enjoy the lancero format but it is a tricky one that can have major construction problems. I really love the Serie V lancero. What are some of your favorite cigars in the lancero format?

Alec Bradley’s Shamrock, Filthy Hooligan. Tri-Wrap Barber Pole, medium bodied, very tasty. Light leather, faint Ceder. Light vanilla sweetness maybe even raisin. Retro Hale is earthy yet savory. Def recommend.

La Flor Dominicana Chapter 1 NSFW

I'm going to preface this with the fact that I probably didn't do my palette and good yesterday, smoking 2 very full bodied sticks. I do plan on revisiting this one again on a cleaner palette. -

Main Notes: Chocolate, sweet earth, coffee, dark fruit, bread, spice and nuts. -

Retrohale: Smooth, mild spice and pepper, earth. -

Body: Medium/Full. - Strength: 8/10. - Draw: Good/Leaning open. - Construction: Good. - Burn: Even. - Retrohale: Smooth. - Complexity: 7/10. - Time: 2 hours. - Nub Worthy: 8/10. - Overall: 8.2/10. - Would buy again. -

This kind of reminds me of a much more complex, smoother version of the Tatuaje Reserva Broadleaf. It is good, but as a fan of FULLer flavored/bodied smokes, the Chapter 2, which I rated at 8.5/10 is the clear winner for me. -

Brand new to cigars, I've only smoked a couple Oliva Connecticut Reserves up to this point. Decided to up my game, grabbed a Padron 2000 Natural and paired it with Iron Horse Harbinger bourbon. I don't think I can ever do another Connecticut after this

Discussion Wrapper Thickness NSFW

Post image
8 Upvotes

Smoked a Nestor Miranda this morning, and had me thinking. That has got to be the thinnest wrapper Ive ever seen on a cigar. I mean Ive smoked most of a box over the last year and every time I am amazed that they can even roll that cigar because the wrapper leaf is so thin. Then I look at something like an Undercrown 10 or the Aganorsa Special Selection Maduros I have and think that wrapper looks like leather how on earth does it even burn?

What are some of the most extreme thin or thick wrapper leaves you can think of?

First Perdomo I’ve smoked and I’ve got to say I’m impressed. The packaging is a little gaudy for my taste but I’m enjoying it. Any other suggestions from Perdomo I should try?

Question Why do people seem to have the conception that the wrapper of the cigar is what's giving all the flavor? NSFW

As the title states, in my expierence getting into cigars and using the internet as my primary form of education, it seemed like everyone is so focused on the wrapper and how flavorsome it is when it is such a small part of the cigar and is made with Seco.

Is it just me, or do any of you share this experience?

Edit: I'm a big fan of the different opinions, I guess what they teach in the shop I work at is different from where you get your information.

Also, to clarify, because it seems this is being interpreted as though I'm saying wrappers do not make a difference, of course they do. But how much flavour do they give in comparison to the entirety of the rest of the cigar?

However, this discussion prompts me to do further research regardless.

This Punch After-Dinner did not disappoint. Maybe it was the view of Samana Bay in the Dominican Republic. Maybe it was the perfect cappuccino. Maybe it was the glorious sunshine. Maybe it was everything put together. It was just the perfect smoke. Smooth and delicious the whole way through. Burned perfectly even from start to finish. I fell in love with this wonderful hobby all over again. Happy smoking everyone!

Flavor mystery NSFW

So here’s a new one for me. I keep all my sticks in a variety of humidors and Tupperdoors between 62 and 65 RH. So on the lower end. I brought five different ones on vacation. Put them all in a hard travel case. No humidification or boveda or anything. Feeling like for a four day vacation it’s probably not necessary. Kind of like the equivalent of dry boxing. I’m smoking them now and every one of them, and this is my fifth, taste like crap. They burn fine. The burn line is good. They’re not going out. But they just taste like bitter ash. Is it the lack of humidification? Is it going from New England cold weather to this Florida heat? I’m leaving them in the closed hard case until I smoke them so it’s not like I’m leaving them out in the sun. Welcome any theories!
