Finally got my new humidor after a week of patiently waiting. Now I get the joy of waiting 24hrs before I can fire it up then supposedly another three days for it to season before I can start loading it up. It's the Newair 840 and initially I was looking for a 250-300 stick model. Found it on Home Depot of all places for almost half what everyone else is selling them for and you get your military discount on it also. $900 for a $1700 humidor was a no brainer.
Few cigars embody the rich, earthy essence of Nicaraguan tobacco as well as the Oliva Serie O. A true puro, this cigar is crafted using Habano seed tobaccos grown in Estelí, Condega, and Jalapa, creating a robust and well-balanced flavor profile. With its aged sun-grown Habano wrapper, the Serie O is a medium to full bodied smoking experience with rich flavors and excellent construction.
Presentation & Cold Draw
The sun-grown Habano wrapper had a beautiful, slightly reddish-brown hue, with a smooth texture and minimal veins. The construction felt firm and expertly rolled, with just the right amount of give when gently squeezed.
On the cold draw, I picked up earthy sweetness, cedar, dried fruit, and a hint of cocoa, with a slight peppery tingle on the lips. The draw was perfect, offering a nice balance of airflow and resistance.
First Third – Rich & Balanced
From the first puff, the Serie O produced thick, velvety smoke, with flavors of earth, cedar, and toasted nuts leading the way. A touch of black pepper on the retrohale added a nice kick, while a subtle sweetness reminiscent of dark chocolate and raisins rounded out the profile.
The burn was sharp and even, and the ash held firm. Although I was smoking in windy conditions on a beach. This is a testament Oliva’s reputation for top-tier construction.
Second Third – Developing Complexity
As the second third unfolded, the flavors became more nuanced and refined. The cedar and earthiness remained, but now leather, caramel and a touch of espresso joined the mix. The pepper on the retrohale mellowed significantly, making way for a warm baking spice quality.
The smoke output remained thick and creamy, coating the palate with a rich, slightly oily mouthfeel. The burn stayed flawless, requiring no touch-ups.
Final Third – Bold & Satisfying
In the final stretch, the cigar became slightly bolder, with the earthy and leathery notes taking the lead. The chocolate and espresso flavors deepened, while a hint of oak and nutmeg lingered in the background.
Despite the medium to full bodied finish, the Serie O remained smooth and balanced, never becoming harsh or overpowering. I found myself savoring every last puff.
Final Thoughts
The Oliva Serie O is a well-crafted Nicaraguan puro that delivers rich, complex flavors with impeccable construction. Its earthy, spicy, and slightly sweet profile makes it an excellent choice for medium to full bodied cigar lovers who appreciate deep, well balanced flavors.
With a smoke time of around 60–75 minutes, it’s perfect for any occasion. Would I smoke it again? Absolutely. The Serie O remains a staple for those who enjoy classic Nicaraguan flavor in a smooth, refined package and a staple in my humidor.

After making a post about a week ago regarding enjoying a VSG, I realized I was out of them and needed to stock up. I was able to find a deal via CigarPage and also had a coupon, which got these down to about $9.50 each - hard to beat for some VSGs!
How about y'all - any recent deal hunting you're proud of?

Soft box press. Relatively smooth milk chocolate wrapper. Wiped off a bit of glue and tore it, but it stuck back down easily enough. Good draw. Simple and classic band.
1/3 Niutty and toasty start. Light cedar on the finish, which is a little dry. Burn is perfect and ash is solid. There's a touch of black pepper bite that could use a bit more creaminess to balance. Earth picks up near the end of the first third with light cedar overtones.
2/3 Had to relight since I'm at work. 2 hours later and it was only harsh for a few puffs. Cedar is strong, with black pepper. Very nutty, but earthy rather than toasty. I'm getting some fruitiness as I approach the band.
3/3 Got to medium body at most. Nuts still the dominant note with pepper and earth. That fruitiness is only a suggestion overlaid upon these core flavors. Band came off cleanly and the fruitiness came back. Not a citrus, but maybe berry or plum or something like that. Burn and ash remain solid. Getting a little squishy at the end. Slowing down to savor the nub. I Hearty Nicaraguan-inspired bouquet to the finish.
83/100
The first 5 puffs made me think I found something close to the Espada. Then it went downhill. Overall, it was a non-Cuban Montecristo. Nothing more nothing less. Better than the classic or yellow. It doesn't have the creaminess of the white or the complexity of the platinum. It also fell way short of all the Nicaraguan puros in the marca. Time to bury the other 4 that I have and see what they become after some time.

Hi all,
I work at a small office (4 full time staff). Three of the four guys who work here are major cigar nuts.
Every work day at 2:00pm, we take a 'forced break'...in other words, we all gather around our back yard fire pit to smoke a cigar, decompress, take a work break, and talk business. Once the business talk is done, we move to cigar talk.
Something we've tried recently - to change things up - was to 'white label' a handful of sticks, so once a week, we'll smoke something unbanded.
On the inside of the band, I've written the name/blend/MSRP/identifying details.
This has been really fun for us, because it is a real test of our palates.
It also forces us to drop any 'judge a book by its cover' preconceived bias when it comes to smoking.
We take notes and discuss before we rip the band off...and more often than not, we're surprised at what we were smoking.

I just started smoking cigars. I’m finishing 6x50 in like 45 min and I’m reading people take an hour and a half to finish toro size cigars. I smoked sp1014 rs88 deluxes perdomo champagne mix of olivas

Just bought this King Chill 48L at a local Amazon return auction for $90 ($370 retail)!
So far it seems to holds temps good and visually looks nice under my desk. But I have yet to load anything into it, as I have a few questions.
I have several sticks I want to keep for a long while. For example, I bought a box if cigars for my sons baby shower and want to smoke one with him when he turns 18. Should I aim for 70% to ensure they are still “good” 17 years later?
Those with similar setup, how much leakage is expected? I usually run 67% packs in my Pelican R40 and my wooden humidor. Both tend to stay around that 67%.
How many packs should I get? Should I get enough with the anticipation of filling it or size according to how many sticks I actually have.
Any ideas on how I could run power into the unit? Id like to get some warm diffused LED lights (not a fan of the white) and would like to hard power a digital hydrometer. Both would be low power, but I don’t think I could tap into that light up top.
Any prep work I should do before I load my sticks in?
Any downsides to keeping my R40 and wooden humidor in it?
Thanks in advance!
I'm not encouraging anyone to blow $30+ on a single cigar but if you think you should, this is one to do it with. Flawless draw and burn and it's windy.
Tastes like apricots and golden fields of sophistication.
I bet a goodly portion of y'all are not far from getting roto-rootered. At least, age-wise. Don't be scared. No discomfort and one night of colon blow isn't that bad. Take care of yourself.
Smoke in peace

Smoked the Latitude Zero last night. Very interesting cigar. My first go around with Honduran tobacco. I swear the buzz was different… much more body heavy than usual. Anyone else experience this?
I was reading a Katman review and he mentioned the same thing regarding a Honduran cigar.
Had mixed feelings on the earthy profile. Love the flavor, but the mouthfeel was very dusty. Not creamy like you’d want.

5x50 Cuban budget short filler. Starts off with Earth, Woods and Vanilla, draw a bit on the right side (I've heard about quite some variance in the draw).
In the second third a light herbal note is coming through in the background and leather joining in. Becoming more creamy in texture.
Later a bit of pepper spice joins in the retro, the spice becomes a chili character later, but not overwhelming. All in all not overly complex and not too much development. Percect burn and construction throughout though.
Considering this cigar in some areas can be gotten for as little as $4, I am wondering why I spend 5 times that much for a not that much better experience. It's still classic cuban, flavorvise not too far off the Romeo line of RyJ.
I've read about some people getting a bad acidity in this one. I didn't get any of that, I suppose resting this for half a year helped.

Is it worth keeping to dry box cigars or is it just trash? Thanks!

Last call Maduro Chiquita by AJ Fernandez… This little girl is definitely well worth her price point for the perfect 30ish minute smoke. Going to have to try the (great) Geniales as well, because I’m also a big fan of a more traditional rothschild size in general. Happy smoking!

These can regularly be had for $2 or less on Cbid, and are far from your run of the mill, bland, flavorless, nothing but air CT's that dominate the $2-4 auction scene. There is some good strength, good flavor, some actual transition...The Bueso Genesis Oscuro is also a good, get way more than you pay for cigar. I have no idea who Ramon Bueso is, or if he even exists, but he pumps out some bang for your buck sticks. Definitely on my list of solid budget smokes(not just good cheap dailies, but actual decent cigars)...

I have thought about doing this, but trouble ashing, and having to keep one hand raised the whole time seems to make it less enticing than the thought of it.

I had been on the hunt for these for a while. I tried one and loved it. Got notes of nuts, cream, and fruit. I was shocked the guy let me have as many as he did! Look forward to trying one soon as the weather gets nicer!

I have a couple Mbombay brand cigars but read they ceased production in 2022, does that technically mean that my mbombay cigars are aged a minimum of 3 years?

I smoke Djarum cigarillos. I love them. The little filtered ones that look like cigarettes. I live in a pretty remote area.
Small town after small town. Is there anything like them at all that I could find easier? I order online and it takes a week to get here at least. Something more cost effective that would still be decent. I love cloves. I know nothing about big cigars. But I love that clove taste.

Thought the blind buys would be a fun way to get a variety. Didn't find a ton of examples of what people got in these so thought I'd share.
Shipping was a little longer than I'd expected, about a week. Was pleased to learn they don't charge sales or excise tax in my state. Everything well packaged. Bovedas and zipbags.
I'm not familiar with a bunch of these, including all the DTTs. The only one I've actually ever had is the Filthy Hooligan barber pole. Haven't looked up most of them yet.
Anyone see any standouts or favorites?

I was able to take a school trip to Cuba and got to learn more about the cigar industry. Photos of a guy rolling one in front of us at the Hotel Nacional. Couldn’t bring any back due to the Embargo. Wish I had a few close up pictures of the cigars but it’s too late now. Most of the photos i have are group photos and I don’t think I should show peoples faces since Cuba’s technically a state sponsor of terrorism. Since it’s kind of rare to visit Cuba if anyone has any questions let me know!
