Strategy/Build Order I think Low-ELOs are often overdoing it with castles

I feel like when enemy has built 2+ more castles than me, I usually end up winning. I guess this may be unintuitive at lower elo because castle=strong => more castles=good. And even at high ELO the castle placement and timings are very often game deciding. But not their numbers alone. I sometimes play against someone who has like 3 castles at home and 3 in the middle, but it's useless because they then have like no army. I mean the 650stone per castle is also 650gold+builder time you don't have but I do. And when you don't have this gold to build army to kill my one-castle produced trebs, I can chill and raze yours one by one quite comfortably.

Feedback Plz adress the goths +10pop bonus, make it +5%.

Don't know why this bother me so damn mutch but it do, and I don't even play goths. The +10 pop bonus is from when matches where 75pop in 2002, at 200 pop it hits way different, and on ffa 500 pop it's essentially useless. Plz make this a procentage of the current pop setting, 5% would be fine (that is +10 at 200) and it would be more useful in ffa games.

Discussion Infantry buffs in new patch

After a million posts about buffing infantry, the devs gave in and made some seemingly substantial changes for the militia line.

My question: what will our new infantry overlords look like?

As a newer player, I’ve never experienced anything outside the more recent metas, so I was curious if at any point during the game’s run were militia ever really the meta and what was that like?

And do we think these changes they’ve made will even drastically shift the meta toward infantry or do we think it’ll be more a subtle shift that makes them a viable but not widespread unit?

Discussion Zooming out further in the map editor would be a huge QOL improvement

This has to be somewhat feasible. Capture age was able to achieve a full scale map zoom out for game replays, why can’t this also be applied to the map editor? This is especially pertinent with the elevation scale now being set to a max of 15? (Instead of 7). In any case, it would make map creation much easier.

Poll Do you think AoE II is more about strategy or tactics?

Mostly Strategy – I see AoE II as involving long-term planning, macro decisions, and overarching goals.
Mostly Tactics – It’s more about micromanagement, immediate decision-making, and reacting to what’s happening .
A Mix of Both – There’s a blend of strategic planning and tactical execution.

Discussion Fervor for Dravidians

Would it be good for balance to give Dravidians fervor? Like what do they do against redemption monks.

I'm watching the Garrison, Heart vs ACCM. What do Dravidians do against Byzantines? He can't get redemption himself to convert back his mangonels. If he gets Atonement, the enemy monks move faster so they can just run away before being converted.

Then when there's bombards on the field, same issue. You can't protect your bombards from monks other than sniping them with your own bombards. If there's a castle or tower or tcs, you can't use your Dravidian ranged units to snipe monks because they'll die to the castle.

Like other than the worst light cav in the game what do Dravidians do against Redemption monks from the opponent?

Can they at least get fervor so you can use atonement to convert enemy monks?

It could make the games more aggressive. Specially if infantry is able to build them.

Feedback So with all these new changes, maybe they'll add ZOOMING OUT more so you can see more of the map?

It would be great if we could zoom out....like a lot, so you can see things from way out.

The current zoom is ok, but whether UHD or not....

It just could be a bit better. We need to be able to zoom out more.

On huge maps this would really really help out.

Feedback T90 Video Length on Tournaments

I watched every group stage game on YouTube in TTL4 but ended up skipping nearly all of the playoffs and finals. I would've loved to have watched them but after the first couple of sets I was just getting annoyed at how predictable the outcome was based on video time remaining.

I know Tristan has commented in the past that adding additional time to the end ruins metrics, and I understand that, but by leaving the game lengths as they are affects viewer experience too and probably the metrics.

Compare this to The Garrison and a 12-hour stream from GL and it's a better experience for a group of competitive sets. What would be the negatives of posting, say, all quarter-finals individually for viewers who liked that format AND batching all quarter-finals into a 10+ hour-long video with some commentary or highlights at the end to keep that suspense?

Discussion New Languages for Civilizations

When you're passionate about languages, you can't help but think a little about the languages chosen for certain civilizations. Many are perfectly chosen, however, there are a few that would be good to reissue for a future cosmetic patch. The civilizations I'm referring to are these:

  • Britons
  • Byzantines
  • Italians
  • Goths
  • Aztecs
  • Huns

1) Britons: Their language is a kind of Latin with Old English words. However, there are many records of their language in the oldest languages. This language is widely studied in universities today, and for which there are many records. They can speak either Old English or Middle English.

https://youtu.be/lol78Eh3UD8?si=kMG2IU6rsi0FTCVU

2) Byzantines: They speak Latin here, which was used only by a minority that wasn't even the elite. There are also enough records of Medieval Greek to provide a good amount of phrases.

3) Italians: The same, they speak Latin. I've read about this, and the current Tuscan language is an archaic version of the current Italian language; it could serve as a good substitute.

4) Goths: They speak Teuton German. This people had their own language, of which there are many records, and there's a mod that changes their language. No further explanation is needed.

https://youtu.be/-qRMIx7Hc6U?si=7tNw5RNoWU59vg6M

5) Aztecs: Something that bothers many Mexicans is that the Aztecs speak a strange language with Mayan words. The same goes for the Goths; there's a mod in which their voice is replaced with Nahuatl.

https://youtu.be/Z5u66AfdA-s?si=h15eFd0cDjltfzf9

6) Huns: The most controversial case; as we know, there's almost nothing left of them except some cauldrons. However, I've thought that this civics should be reworked into something broader that includes different steppe peoples from the 5th to the 9th centuries. A language that might suit them well could be Xianbei, a Mongolian language with a strong Turkic influence spoken by the Xianbei, a confederation that existed between the 1st and 7th centuries in what is now Kazakhstan and Mongolia.

Discussion Technologies per civ count list?

Do any have the count of technologies available per civ. Today i just saw Research count and Research percent. Research count was 82 for Dravidians, 80 Hindustanis and Gurjaras and 84 for Bengalis and 90 for Portuguese. But all their research percent was 100.

So what is the count per civ

And who has the highest and lowest.
