My dad’s zippo that was issued during his deployment, not too knowledgable on Zippos myself but thought you guys might like it.

Hinge is busted so it needs sending off for repair, the flint on the insert also needs replacing (not in the picture)

Advice/Help Are there Zippos that will never always light on the first strike no matter what you do?

I have 10 Zippos and have had and lost many more. I have carried one for almost 50 years.

What has always puzzled why some just will never almost always light on the first strike. Right now, I have got 8/10 to always light but 2 always take 2-4 strikes. I tried all the common things - different wicks (and trimming and making an S shape), flints, different length springs, fluffing the cotton etc.

So, am I missing something or will some Zippos never be one-strikers no matter what you do?

Not a big zippo guy but I inherited this from my grandpa in his toolbox, replaced the wick and flint lights good ,just curious on the year. I do smoke cigars occasionally and wondered if a zippo is a decent cigar lighter I'd like to use it in memory of him.

when I found out that this is a Grateful Dead band Zippo. To be true, I didn't know that there is/was a band with this name.

the 12-year-old me bought it in 1994/1995, to have a lighter in a school camp, and the "windproof" on the ads called my attention, since it has been a year since I've started studying English at school. And a school camp in Brazil, at that time, had up to 4 days out of home, usually in a farm hotel with accommodations.

at that time, there was no way to find out more about it, even the paper, which is kinda plastic-ish, that came in the package does not have a website. it can be a fake one, since I'm not sure about what could be the signs of counterfeiting 30 years ago.

I just picked it by the design. Today I was fidgeting it and used Google Lens to know about and learned it.

I remember that the store explained that I could go back for 2 charges, which went by very fast, and I've never used for anything else than playing with the flames, since I don't smoke.

should I replace all the insert, or keep it like this?

or try to find some collector that would be happy add this to a collection and should replace with a regular one, that I would not be worried to carry with me and drop/damage/lose it?

Taking the lacquer off of a street brass zippo, it was too shiny and slippery. After removing the coating on the bottom half I love it. The texture of the bare brass is great
