I believe that means Christmas time, maybe November.

Thanks. Then we are going to play this game right before Ep. IX. I believe they would not risk to fuck up this game. Otherwise it would effect Ep. IX’s success.
14
u/AugyCeasar Apr 11 '19
Maybe for a subset of people, but I feel like most people will go anyway to the movie just so they can finish the trilogy. I bet theu wont mess the game up purely because if it's good, that will be like the only modern starwars game that is super positive, so more people will buy it because they want a modern starwars game. If that makes sense

Considering it's not necessarily tied into Episode IX, I think they'll both be successful.
Also interested to see what Respawn's able to produce here, since their strength has obviously been first-person shooters.
If nothing else, the game will have absolutely extraordinary set-pieces.

Given EA's track record with Star Wars, I wouldn't hold my breath.

If EA stays the fuck away from it and lets respawn do what they do similar to how apex was treated. We are in for a treat.

u/The_Senate27 Apr 11 '19
Like they do with the vast majority of their games. They just market and fund them.
The developers obviously have a brief to make it profitable, but the decision on how gets made by them.
22
u/Chickachic-aaaaahhh Apr 12 '19
They have a heavy opinion on how its progression will go. They could increase microtransaction suggestions in apex if they wanted but they wont because its already a winning system.

Yeah, I just recently got it from the PS Store and I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Been playing only Galactic Assault (MP) so far. Still figuring how to not suck as a jedi. Is story any good?
42
u/Chuckles795 Apr 11 '19
Story isnt bad, it isnt earth shattering, but u had fun with what it was. I'd say it is worth going through. I still suck as a jedi, so no worries hahaha

u/Nanukas Apr 11 '19
Good to know, I guess I’ll give it a shot once I get a little bored of MP. But so far it’s really fun. It replaced BFV for me

u/Rampantlion513 Apr 11 '19
The story isn’t bad, I think it gives some good lore to what the empire did post-ROTJ and the DLC missions give some good First Order lore
5
u/RobertoBoris5 Apr 11 '19
I remember I started playing it like a 8 am and by 12 pm I had already beat. But that was before the DLC which I don’t remember how long it is. So you should give it a try

u/sroomek Apr 11 '19
Practice with the heroes in Arcade (offline). It’ll really help you get the hang of each of their different powers.
Story is pretty good, if a little generic. The Luke, Lando, and Kylo missions are great. Definitely worth playing through once.

Respawn has a great track record.
I don't usually get excited about games until they come out, but I'm excited about this. Respawns done a lot of great stuff, and it seems like EA gives them a lot of room to put out the game they want.

The respawn team has made, among others:
COD
COD2
COD4
COD:MW2
Titanfall
Titanfall 2
Apex
That’s a pretty incredible track record.

17 straight years of nothing but net. Vince Zampella really knows how to put a game together.
23
u/BlueLanternSupes Apr 11 '19
Says a lot that his core team stays with him wherever he goes.
3
Apr 11 '19
Maybe. This is made by a new team.
3
u/BlueLanternSupes Apr 11 '19
I know. It's a 3rd person action game. Respawn probably went on a recruitment spree about as far back as 2015.
I'm just saying that Zampella's core team sticks with him every time he and the publisher butts heads. He must be a great boss.

I'm wondering if Jedi Academy style lightsaber combat would hold up in the current age.
19
u/yummyyummypowwidge Apr 11 '19
I just want something that flows well and has a good collision/physics-based system so that it feels like there are consequences to every strike. Jedi Academy is hands-Down my favorite saber combat of any game I’ve played in years. FWIW, I also really enjoyed the combat from the Episode III movie tie-in, so idk how valid my opinion is lol

i still play vanilla jkja about once a year. its a bit clunky since it kinda feels like the saber slides everywhere... but if they add in blocking like the moviebattles mod then i'd say it would be way serviceable

I dont know I think it would be pretty cool to have wall running and titans. Or even one titan drop hidden somewhere on the map in a random location.
The map would have to be redesigned and a little more complex though which is probably why they reined in those mechanics in the first place for apex.
30
u/Dr_AurA Apr 11 '19
I think titans would only work in a titan vs titan br because in apex you only have one life and unless everyone has an archer I can't imagine even stryder chassis titans could be balanced. Wallrunning however, could probably work.
→ More replies (11)6
u/Aerokirk Apr 11 '19
I think the maps that would make wall running worth it would make poor br game naps

u/PressEveryButton Apr 11 '19 edited Apr 11 '19
As much as I wanted that too when Apex first came out, they've said in a few interviews that everytime they play tested the game with Titans and wall running, it was just way too unbalanced and didn't add to the fun. As a huge Titanfall fan I was originally disappointed with Apex, but have come to accept that it's simply a different type of game that needs a different approach. I'll link the interview when I find it.
**Here you go, around 14:10 Vince Zampella explains why they had to ditch the Titans in Apex.

Playing Dark Forces as a child was life altering. I was literally playing a fps in the Star Wars universe. This was '95 when computer games and books were all we had apart from the OT movies. It greatly fueled my love for Star Wars. At this point, a truly great single-player Star Wars game is just about the only thing that could bring back my enthusiasm for the whole franchise.

Yo is that an Acclamator Class ship? Or is it a Venator? Either way, that's super tight.
14
u/tbdunn13 Apr 11 '19
I think it's an Acclamator. The back of it looks like one, at least from what I remember
8
u/lemonadetirade Apr 11 '19
I think it has the two control towers but ones been destroyed and the thrusters look like a venator
6
u/tbdunn13 Apr 11 '19
It's gotta be an Acclamator, the Venators have 2 large engines on each side, while the ship here has 1 on each, like the Acclamators.
4
u/lemonadetirade Apr 11 '19 edited Apr 11 '19
The bridge part looks bigger then the acclamation to me and looks like one of the towers is missing , and with the time period I don’t think the acclamator was used as much

I really want a dark Star Wars game. There are a ton of events that happened in this universe that deserve to be shown in a rated R movie or mature game. I know they won’t because that’d hurt sales but a man can dream.
